Who Told You That? The Name God Gave Me Essential Church July 13, 2025 SUMMARY The message touches on personal growth and identity. The pastor reflects on their journey from being an introvert to realizing their potential, drawing parallels with the character Po from "Kung Fu Panda." Initially perceived as unlikely to succeed, Po's story becomes a source of inspiration, emphasizing that true strength lies in embracing one's unique path. Throughout the dialogue, there is a recurring theme of letting go of the illusion of control and trusting in a higher plan. This is illustrated through metaphors such as the growth of a peach tree, which cannot be forced to bear fruit before its time, symbolizing the natural unfolding of destiny. The message concludes with a spiritual reflection, encouraging individuals to seek guidance from a higher power, accept their true identity, and trust in the divine plan for their lives. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS **Destiny and Control:** - How does the Project explore the concept of destiny versus control? Do you agree with the idea that attempts to control outcomes are often futile? - In what ways does the narrative suggest that destiny is inevitable, and how does this impact the characters' actions? **Character Development:** - How does the character of Po from "Kung Fu Panda" serve as a metaphor for personal growth and self-discovery? - What lessons can be learned from Po's journey about embracing one's unique path and potential? **Philosophical Reflections:** - The message mentions that "there are no accidents." How does this perspective influence the way we perceive unexpected events in our lives? - Discuss the metaphor of the peach tree and its relevance to the theme of natural growth and unfolding destiny. **Spiritual and Personal Insights:** - How does the message encourage individuals to seek guidance from a higher power and trust in a divine plan? - In what ways can letting go of the illusion of control lead to personal and spiritual growth? **Application to Real Life:** - How can the themes discussed in the message be applied to real-life situations, particularly in overcoming challenges and embracing one's identity? - What strategies can individuals use to balance the desire for control with acceptance of destiny?

EP 196: 2008's Box Office Countdown (5–1) – Jokers, Jones, and ABBA (ft. Phoenix Clouden) Episode Description: Jason is joined by the ever unpredictable Phoenix Clouden (The Film Canon) to finish the epic climb through 2008's biggest box office hits! This is the top 5 where caped crusaders, crystal skulls, pandas, demigods, and dancing queens battled for cinematic dominance. It's a strange mix of gritty realism, nostalgic absurdity, and pop musical euphoria Films Discussed: Mamma Mia! (5) – Meryl, ABBA, and summer dreams you can sorta almost sing along to. Hancock (4) – A drunken antihero gets a redemption arc, and the movie continues. Kung Fu Panda (3) – The animated surprise that kicks harder than anyone expects. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2) – Aliens? Fridges? And the first real internet backlash blockbuster. The Dark Knight (1) – Ledger's Joker, Nolan's vision, and the box office juggernaut that changed the game. But is it...good? IN THIS EPISODE: Phoenix defends Kung Fu Panda as top-tier animation with real heart and craft. Jason revisits Hancock and some tone deaf creative choices. Can Mamma Mia! actually work as a movie? Was Crystal Skull ever really that bad, or just a victim of overhype? And does The Dark Knight still hold up as the superhero movie to beat?

Hot off the heels of our discussion on Kung Fu Panda 2, the gang comes to you with the final film in what may be Dreamworks Studios' finest animated trilogy...if you simply pretend 2024's Kung Fu Panda 4 doesn't exist. It's got multiple dads, several more pandas, another villain voiced by another banger voice actor (hi J.K. Simmons!), and yet another really solid character arc for Po which continues to blow us away considering that the name of this film is literally Kung Fu Panda. And while Marcus dunks on Kai a bit like Michael dunked on Lord Shen in our previous episode, the gang unanimously agrees that the film most certainly earned its "Everybody was kung fu fighting" moment at the end. Will we move on to our review on Kung Fu Panda 4 next? No, we don't think we will. Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.

In honor of Mother's Day, we are revisiting one of our most popular episodes "How to Have a Happy Mother's Day" because who couldn't use a littler reminder that the day is actually supposed to feel good for YOU ❤️A few years ago, I got a call around 3:00 on Mother's Day. A dear friend asked me if I would be able to meet her for a drink before dinner. Hell yes. We had both had less than ideal days that were meant to celebrate us but instead were filled with cranky kids and unmet expectations. We needed to commiserate. And at the risk of sounding like a terrible mother I'm going to be honest – our cocktail hour was the best part of my day. We laughed, we cried and we went back to our families restored and reconnected. It reminded me of what my dear friend and mentor Carrie Contey has always said about Mother's Day – ask for what you want. For some women, spending Mother's day with their children or their own mother or mother-in-law is perfect. For others, not so much. It can be a vulnerable day, especially if you have lost your mother, have a tricky relationship with her, or if motherhood is not living up to your expectations at the moment. So now is the time to ask for what you want from this day. Does being with your children and having them make you breakfast in bed sound ideal? Do it. Do you want to binge Netflix shows you never get to watch because you're asleep in your kid's bed at 8pm? See if your partner (or babysitter) can bring your kids to Kung Fu Panda 4 while you order a pizza with your favorite toppings. Do you want to journal and cry about missing your mom? Just as valid.I want a mix – a little time with my family and a little time to myself. So you'll probably find me eating home made pancakes in the morning followed by a matinee viewing of a movie SOLO and maybe even a cocktail with a friend afterward. And I'm going to ask for this now – so my partner knows what is going to fill my cup on a day meant to celebrate me. No surprises, no disappointments. What do you want your Mother's Day to look like? Despite what Hallmark tells us, there's no wrong way to do it. As long as you do it your way, that's good enough. To get Carley's free video teaching you 4 play therapy techniques you can use TODAY to calm your emotional child and bring joy and freedom back to family life click here!http://www.paceparent.com/play And follow her @CarleyCounsels on FB & IG!

It's Fundraisers Friday, and Julia C. Patrick and Tony Beall are back with an episode full of big opinions, thoughtful advice, and even a little Kung Fu Panda wisdom. This time, they dive into real questions from viewers—and they don't hold back, with an honest and supportive conversation about the ins and outs of development work, from transparency in fundraising goals to the fine line of donor privacy. One of the first questions tackled: Should fundraising goals be shared organization-wide, or kept within the C-suite? Tony makes the case for balance: “The way you communicate goals matters—empathy and intention are key.” Julia adds that fundraisers often get put under pressure when goal updates trickle down without context or support. They also unpack a tricky topic—sharing top donor info with board members. Julia suggests, “Having a policy is key. Without it, you risk someone casually announcing a donor's gift in public.” Tony agrees but reminds us, “Unless the donor asked for anonymity, listing them for board review isn't a breach of privacy.”Perks for development staff? This duo has thoughts. Forget just bagels—Tony encourages nonprofits to ask staff what's actually meaningful to them. From car washes donated by board-owned businesses to flexible scheduling, he reminds us, “Perks don't have to cost much to show value.”Perhaps the most surprising take came on newsletters vs. annual reports. Tony challenged the typical approach, saying monthly newsletters can feel stale, while an annual report can be a dynamic, story-driven tool: “If I had to choose, I'd go with the annual report every time.”To close, Julia teases upcoming episodes (like managing fundraiser stress) and celebrates The Nonprofit Show nearing its 1300th episode. The vibe? Honest, empowering, and always real.—“There's no such thing as bad news or good news. There's just news.” —Tony Beall, quoting Kung Fu Panda, but owning the sentiment.Timestamps:00:00:00 Welcome to Fundraisers Friday!00:01:18 The joy of working with nonprofit leaders00:03:19 Teaser: Upcoming episode on fundraiser stress00:04:21 Should fundraising goals be shared org-wide?00:06:55 Communication, stress, and fear in fundraising updates00:09:49 Good news vs. bad news (Kung Fu Panda style)00:11:14 Donor privacy: Should boards know top givers?00:14:55 Low-cost perks for development staff00:19:20 Annual report vs. monthly newsletters—what's more important?00:24:08 How to maximize your annual report00:25:34 Tony's news from AFP and upcoming events00:27:11 Julia's Innovate Conference appearance00:28:13 Celebrating 1300 episodes! #FundraisersFriday #NonprofitLeadership #DevelopmentStrategyFind us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

Send us a textJack Black sits at the rare intersection of comedy genius, musical talent, and heartfelt authenticity that few performers ever discover. His journey from bit player in 90s action films to beloved family-friendly superstar reveals one of Hollywood's most unexpected and treasured success stories. What makes Black's career so remarkable is his chameleon-like ability to excel across genres while remaining unmistakably himself. When examining his Hall of Fame filmography—from the rock-fueled inspiration of School of Rock to the surprising dramatic depth of Bernie, from the scene-stealing brilliance of Tropic Thunder to the franchise-carrying charisma of Jumanji—we witness an actor who refuses to be typecast yet brings his singular energy to every role. The heart of Black's appeal lies in his fundamental authenticity. Unlike many Hollywood stars who carefully cultivate a persona, Black's on-screen presence feels like a natural extension of himself. This quality shines especially bright in his work with children, where his infectious enthusiasm and lack of cynicism have made him the center of beloved franchises like Kung Fu Panda and Goosebumps. His recent successes with Super Mario Bros and Minecraft further cement his status as cinema's favorite fun dad—the rare actor who appeals equally to children and their nostalgic parents.Beyond his acting, Black's musical background with Tenacious D adds another dimension to his artistry. This rock sensibility infuses his performances with an energy and physicality unusual for comedy actors, creating memorable moments that transcend traditional acting and become pure entertainment. Whether he's performing high-energy physical comedy or capturing subtle emotional beats, Black brings a musician's sense of timing and presence that elevates every project he touches. His career reminds us that true staying power comes not from following trends but from embracing what makes you unique—a lesson Jack Black has mastered with tenacious dedication and undeniable joy.Support the show

It's been a very long time since the gang discussed the original Kung Fu Panda, a film that we universally praised for its completeness, excellent performances from Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black, and impressive animation. And somewhat surprisingly, not since Shrek 2 have we seen such an impressive sequel! The animation is fresh with 2D animated storytelling interspersed with the impressive 3D fight scenes and set pieces, Po's personal journey is emotionally rich for a kids' movie, and we get an absolute banger voice performance from Gary Oldman as main antagonist Shen. Tune in to find out if the gang can achieve I N N E R P E A C E. Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.

Part Two.If change were a sport, Colin Savage would have a trophy room. He's worked in 70+ countries, lived in 7, and reinvented himself more times than most of us change our passwords. In this episode, Colin calls out lifelong learning as passé and introduces his take: skill stacking. Plus, we get into why having a personal AI strategy might be just as important as having a LinkedIn profile. Buckle up—Colin's not slowing down, and neither should you.Key Highlights of Our Interview:The Kung Fu Panda Approach to Change“Wise, measured, and reflective—the best change leaders channel their inner ‘Kung Fu Panda turtle.' Fewer words, deeper thought, and a collective approach to charting the path forward. Because real insight comes when you listen more than you speak.”Why Collective Decisions Matter“Making life-altering changes isn't a solo act. Consulting with those affected—be it family, colleagues, or friends—adds invaluable perspectives. Ignoring this step risks blind spots and unanticipated challenges that could have been addressed earlier.”Lifelong Learning: The Good, the Bad, and the Outdated“While lifelong learning emphasizes constant self-improvement, it often lacks focus. Simply chasing degrees, certifications, or skills without purpose can lead to a disjointed portfolio of knowledge. The real magic happens when learning is intentional and builds toward expertise.”Skill Stacking as a Career Superpower“Focused learning that combines seemingly unrelated skills can redefine your career trajectory. It's not just about learning for the sake of it—it's about intentionally connecting knowledge areas to create a broader, more adaptable toolkit for the future.”_________________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Colin Savage  --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. SUMMARY In this engaging conversation, Sifu Ric Meyers shares his extensive journey through the world of martial arts, emphasizing the philosophy behind kung fu and its cultural significance. He discusses his role as a kung fu consultant for the animated film Kung Fu Panda, highlighting its impact on the perception of martial arts in America. Ric reflects on the evolution of martial arts styles in the U.S., the influence of iconic figures like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, and the importance of authenticity in martial arts training. The dialogue also touches on personal anecdotes and insights into the martial arts community. In this conversation, Ric shares his profound journey through martial arts, emphasizing the importance of learning, wisdom, and internal energy. He reflects on his experiences with bullying, the essence of kung fu beyond fighting, and the transformative power of love and Tai Chi. The discussion culminates in a philosophical exploration of martial arts as a means of personal growth and self-control. TAKEAWAYS The philosophy of kung fu emphasizes an open mind, heart, and hand. Kung Fu Panda is recognized for its accurate representation of martial arts philosophy. Ric's style of kung fu focuses on not hurting oneself or others. The evolution of martial arts in America has led to a dilution of authentic kung fu. Ric's journey in martial arts began with a desire to learn without causing pain. The distinction between martial arts and kung fu is significant in understanding their philosophies. Ric's experiences with Jackie Chan highlight the importance of friendship in the martial arts community. The impact of Bruce Lee on martial arts culture is profound, yet often misunderstood. Ric's work in promoting kung fu has contributed to its popularity in Western culture. Martial arts in America often focus on sparring. Overcoming bullying requires wisdom and strategy. Kung fu encompasses more than just physical fighting. Internal energy can surpass physical strength. Tai Chi teaches grounding and energy flow. Personal growth is a continuous journey. You can only control your own mind and actions. Martial arts philosophy encourages open-mindedness.   This episode is sponsored by Kataaro.
