Wedding Crashers Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Aaron Alexander and Tara Erickson as they crash the 2005 smash-hit comedy Wedding Crashers, directed by David Dobkin. Owen Wilson stars as John Beckwith (best known for Midnight in Paris and Starsky & Hutch), and Vince Vaughn plays his partner-in-crime Jeremy Grey (celebrated for Dodgeball and The Internship). The duo—specialists in charming their way into weddings—targets the high-society Cleary celebration, only to find themselves genuinely smitten and tangled in a web of deception. They're joined by Rachel McAdams as Claire Cleary (famed for Mean Girls and The Notebook), whose earnest sweetness challenges John's playboy ways, and Isla Fisher as her vivacious sister Gloria (recognized for Confessions of a Shopaholic and Tag), who tests Jeremy's con-artist confidence. Christopher Walken steals every scene as the intimidating Uncle Wayne (Oscar-winner for The Deer Hunter), while Bradley Cooper brings sleazy charm as the blustering Sack Lodge (known for Silver Linings Playbook and The Hangover). Aaron & Tara break down the most unforgettable moments including The Perils of Dating, Football with the Clearys, Lock it Up, Motorboating, & Beyond. Join us as we dissect the sharp one-liners, the surprising romantic twists, and the duo's ultimate con that lands them exactly where they never expected: facing the music at their own wedding! Film 8 dalda Oscar'a aday gösterilmiş. Support the show

Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars and move directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Sometimes we are lucky enough to even speak with them about their work. And sometimes, they are both a movie star and a movie director. Today that's Julia Stiles, director of Wish You Were Here, now in theaters and available digitally on February 4th. Our B-Sides today include O, The Business of Strangers, and It's a Disaster. Stiles discusses the filmmakers she's worked with in the past and how they influenced her decisions sitting in the director's chair (the best ones “set a tone of calmness” she says), making friends on the South Carolina set of O, and becoming more intentional with the creative choices in her career (including auditioning for Silver Linings Playbook). We also chat about Wish You Were Here, her feature debut as a filmmaker. Stiles mentions guarding against the saccharine to tell “a mature love story.” There's also considerable praise of lead actress Isabelle Fuhrman and her incredible range, as well as a story about calling filmmaker Doug Liman for sailing advice. Speaking of Liman, Dan and Conor take a moment to unpack Nicky Parsons from the Bourne franchise, the efforts(?) of Tony Gilroy, and a crucial line read in Ultimatum that adds so much depth to Stiles' role. Finally, we cover how exactly Stiles got the great Vanessa Carlton and her partner John McCauley to do the score to her film. Early 2000s icons unite! And there is a brief, insightful conversation on why exactly Stiles chose to do all of those Shakespeare adaptations early on in her career. Today on the show we have Emmanuel Oberg. Emmanuel is a screenwriter, author and script consultant with more than twenty years of experience in the Film and TV industry. After selling his first project to Warner Bros as a co-writer, he went on to be commissioned by StudioCanal and Gold Circle before writing solo for Working Title / Universal and Film4.He has also designed an internationally acclaimed 3-day Advanced Development Workshop - based on the Story-Type Method® - which he delivers with passion to filmmakers all over the world. Emmanuel lives in the UK with his wife and their two daughters. His film agent is Rachel Holroyd at Casarotto in London. He is also the writer of Screenwriting Unchained: Reclaim Your Creative Freedom and Master Story Structure (With The Story-Type Method). In Screenwriting Unchained, Emmanuel Oberg busts many myths and sets out an innovative methodThis practical, no-nonsense guide leaves behind one-size-fits-all story theories and offers a modern approach to story structure, making it a precious resource for anyone involved creatively in the Film and TV industry (or aspiring to be): writers, directors, producers, development execs, showrunners and, more generally, storytellers keen to reach a wide audience at home and abroad.Having identified three main story-types - plot-led, character-led, theme-led - Oberg reveals in a clear, conversational style how each of these impacts on the structure of any screenplay, and how we can use a single set of tools to develop any movie, from an independent crossover to a studio blockbuster. This leads to a powerful yet flexible way to handle the script development process: the Story-Type Method®. A new framework that doesn't tell you what to write and when, but focuses instead on why some tools and principles have stood the test of time and how to use them in the 21st century.According to readers (see reviews below), Oberg's new approach is a game-changer.Here are some of the easy-to-understand concepts explored in Screenwriting Unchained that will help you improve any screenplay:How to identify the story-type of your project to make its development faster, easier and solve most story structure problems. How to leave behind the prescriptive, logistical three-act structure based on page numbers or minutes and replace it with a flexible, dramatic three-act structure that will help you design a rock-solid screenplay. How focusing on emotion, character development and managing information will allow you to go beyond the "protagonist-goal-obstacles-conflict" basic chain of drama. How to use the fractal aspect of structure to design not only the whole story but also its parts in order to avoid the dreaded "sagging middle" syndrome and breathe new life into your script. How to clarify what's at stake and increase your chances of getting the project made with a new take on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. How to use subgoals to Sequence the Action and psychological/emotional steps to Sequence the Evolution of your characters. How to keep the audience engaged using tools like dramatic irony, surprise, mystery, and suspense, adding a third dimension to your story. How to master these tools and principles in scenes through practical exercises before using them in a short film, a feature film, a TV episode or a whole series following hands-on tips and advice. How to design an attention-grabbing opening and a satisfying ending. How to deal with hybrids and exceptions, as story structure isn't about forcing all narratives into a single formulaic paradigm. The Rewrite Stuff: 12 Ways to a Stronger Screenplay, how to approach a new draft creatively and efficiently. How to make the difference between selling documents - used to raise development or production finance - and story design tools.Once you've developed a killer script, how to best pitch your project according to its story-type and get enthusiastic partners on board....and much, much more!Using many case studies including films as diverse as Gravity, Silver Linings Playbook, Crash, Billy Elliot, The Intouchables, Birdman, Alien, Groundhog Day, Misery, Edge of Tomorrow, The Secret in Their Eyes, Cloud Atlas, L.A. Confidential and The Lives of Others, Screenwriting Unchainedwill transform the way you write, read, pitch, design, assess and develop screenplays.Enjoy my conversation with Emmanuel Oberg.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

In this week's episode of Born to Watch, we're diving into a film that strikes the perfect balance between humor, heartbreak, and the hope that pulls us through life's darkest moments. Directed by David O. Russell and featuring a powerhouse cast, "Silver Linings Playbook" has left a lasting impression on audiences since its release in 2012. This film isn't just another romantic comedy—it's a deeply moving exploration of mental health, relationships, and the redemptive power of love."Silver Linings Playbook" tells the story of Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper), struggling to rebuild his life after a stint in a mental institution. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Pat's world is in shambles: he's lost his job, his house, and his marriage. Despite these setbacks, Pat is determined to regain control of his life and win back his estranged wife, Nikki (Brea Bee). He moves back in with his parents, Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro) and Dolores (Jacki Weaver), whose quirks and struggles add complexity to the family dynamic. From the very beginning, it's clear that "Silver Linings Playbook" is not your typical romantic comedy. The film deals with heavy themes such as mental illness and the challenges of recovery, but it does so with a light touch that never feels exploitative or disrespectful. David O. Russell's direction is sharp and empathetic, capturing the chaos and confusion of Pat's life without losing sight of the humour and humanity that make his story so compelling. One of the film's greatest strengths is its ability to portray mental illness in a realistic yet hopeful way. Pat's journey is filled with setbacks and moments of despair, but the film never loses sight of the possibility of recovery. Bradley Cooper's portrayal of Pat is nothing short of remarkable—he brings a raw intensity to the role that is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Cooper's ability to convey Pat's vulnerability and determination makes him a character that is both relatable and deeply sympathetic. It's a performance that resonates long after the credits roll.Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Academy Award for her role as Tiffany Maxwell, is equally captivating. Tiffany is a young widow who is dealing with her mental health struggles, and her unlikely friendship with Pat becomes the heart of the film. Lawrence brings a fiery energy to the role, making Tiffany both fierce and fragile, a perfect match for Pat's more subdued but equally tumultuous personality. Their chemistry is electric, and their interactions blend sharp wit and genuine emotion, making their relationship one of the most memorable in recent cinema. The supporting cast is just as impressive. Robert De Niro delivers a standout performance as Pat Sr., a father who is as complicated as his son. De Niro brings a mix of humour, frustration, and deep-seated love to the role, creating an endearing and exasperating character. Jacki Weaver, as Dolores, provides a softer, more nurturing presence, balancing the family's dynamics with her quiet strength. Together, they create a believable and touching portrayal of a family trying to navigate the challenges of mental illness and the impact it has on their lives."Silver Linings Playbook" is also notable for its depiction of sports fanaticism, particularly how it ties into the characters' lives and emotional states. Pat Sr.'s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles is both a source of tension and a means of bonding within the family. This subplot adds another layer of authenticity to the film, grounding it in a specific cultural context while also highlighting how people use rituals and routines to cope with life's uncertainties. The film's pacing is brisk, and its narrative keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. Russell's script, adapted from Matthew Quick's novel of the same name, is tight and witty, filled with dialogue that is as sharp as it is heartfelt. The story unfolds in a way that feels organic, with each scene building on the last to create a sense of momentum that mirrors Pat's journey towards healing and self-acceptance.Cinematographically, "Silver Linings Playbook" uses a mix of close-ups and wide shots to create a sense of intimacy and immediacy. The handheld camera work gives the film a raw, almost documentary-like feel, drawing the audience into Pat's world and allowing them to experience his highs and lows firsthand. This visual style, combined with the film's vibrant colour palette, adds to the optimism that underpins the story, even in its darkest moments. The soundtrack perfectly complements the film's tone, featuring a mix of classic rock and contemporary hits. Songs like "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder and "Girl from the North Country" by Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash provide a nostalgic backdrop that enhances the emotional resonance of key scenes. Danny Elfman's subtle score also adds to the film's mood, underscoring the characters' emotional journeys without overwhelming the narrative. One of the most remarkable aspects of "Silver Linings Playbook" is its ability to blend humour and drama so seamlessly. The film tackles serious issues—mental illness, loss, and the struggle to move forward—yet it does so with a lightness that never feels forced. The humour arises naturally from the characters and their interactions, providing moments of levity that make the film's more poignant moments all the more impactful. As the film progresses, Pat and Tiffany's relationship evolves unexpectedly. What begins as a tentative friendship rooted in shared pain gradually blossoms into something deeper. Their connection is not a fairy tale romance but a realistic portrayal of two people who find solace and strength in each other's company. The dance competition they enter together becomes a metaphor for their journey—awkward, messy, but ultimately beautiful in its imperfection."Silver Linings Playbook" is a film that resonates on multiple levels. It's a love story, but it's also about family, healing, and the pursuit of happiness in the face of adversity. The film doesn't offer easy answers or neat resolutions, but it does provide a sense of hope—a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is the possibility of finding a silver lining. In conclusion, "Silver Linings Playbook" is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates entertaining and thought-provoking films. With its exceptional performances, sharp writing, and sensitive portrayal of complex issues, it stays with you long after the credits roll. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcasthttps://www.borntowatch.com.au/

Russell adapted and directed this project, and JLaw won her first Oscar playing Tiffany. With such a high pedigree in cast and director, it's no surprise that this film delivers on every front. And yes, it is a Christmas film. On our interconnectedness, releasing paradigms, and receiving the work that needs to pass through us. 0:42 – Introducing Matthew Quick; Bestselling author of The Silver Linings Playbook and We Are The Light; https://matthewquickwriter.com/ 3:00 – We Are The Light – A series of letters written by a mass shooting survivor from protagonist to analyst over the course of a couple years. These letters are about interacting with the little brother of the shooter. 5:30 – Inspiration for the story – Movie theater shooting in Aurora, Co – writing a novel about a tragedy in a movie house and the people in the community come together to resanctify this space. 8:04 – Getting sober in 2018; experiencing writers block for 3 years; entering Jungian analysis; having paranoid thoughts and taking that into the creative writing wrestling ring. After 7 years of trying to sit down to write this novel, it was written in 6 weeks. 11:00 – This Jungian Life Podcast; The protagonist, Lucas, talking about Eli, the brother of the shooter. Tiny injections of reality from your analyst. 14:00 – Lucas is tapping into these sacred places of radical love. He accesses a divine wisdom, possessed by the archetype of love in finding this reconciliation and healing of the community. 17:05 – Conversations about power – as we elevate these conversations of power, are we relegating conversations of love? Lucas take the stance of radical love. Owning the potential of darkness within all of us through shadow work and learning to love the totality of our humanity. 19:05 – How can we treat the shadow in others with more respect and bring dignity. Having the conversations as a community for acknowledging the personal responsibility for those unseen. Slowing down and taking the time to have human interactions. 21:42 – The work is to see the people that make us the most angry are the people most like us. These things that make us uncomfortable are manifestations of things that are going on inside of us. Bringing it back to within and doing the work. 24:11 – Seeing the humanity within all. Every single human is a part of this interconnected whole. Dropping opinions and assumptions and allowing vulnerability. 26:45 – Teach the kids to think, not what to think. Give them the tools to make up their own minds about things. We don't have much dialogue and nuanced conversation in public spaces based on our affiliations. 29:15 – Our extroverted society demands quick answers and voicing of opinion, but complicated problems require a lot of pondering and meditation, especially in the wake of a tragedy. 31:50 – Ego is always going to want to take responsibility for everything. How little control we actually have can be terrifying at first, but also creates a pathway to access better ways. The analyst says to get out of the way, let what comes through you come through you. 34:15 – Having the humility to serve and let go afterwards is the trick. Life circumstances shift, but it comes back to service, humility and getting out of the way. 36:45 – A message to those struggling to get sober; finding people who can support you and you can talk to. 39:00 – Getting the benefit of talking about your sobriety. Admitting the need for allies. Brittany Bernstein of National Review writes: “The House Oversight Committee sent a letter to the National Archives and Records Administration on Tuesday requesting ‘unrestricted special access' to records related to then-Vice President Biden's foreign travel with his family on Air Force Two and Marine Two… The reporting suggests the younger Biden accompanied his father on official trips to Europe, Africa, Asia, Canada, and Mexico.” House Republicans are concerned that Hunter Biden may have traveled with his father, using his father's access to government aircrafts to meet with foreign business associates.
