The first three stages of the 2024 Tour de France have been brutally hard, intensely hot, and all around unforgettable for our squad. Sean and Neilson take you through the Grand Départ in Florence, what it felt like to finally pin those Tour numbers on for our Tour rookie, and how they have been coping with the heat. They also walk you through how our team responds to different scenarios in a race and how we got the yellow jersey. There's still a lot of cycling left before the first rest day, but we are proud of how this team is riding. Allez.
Stage 0 | Florence, Italy Join us for an exclusive series straight from the heart of the Tour de France with your hosts Neilson Powless and Sean Quinn, At this point, Neilson is a Tour veteran, already competing in his fifth "grande boucle" so it's only natural that we ask him to share his wisdom with Tour de France rookie, Sean Quinn. In this episode, they talk about their first impressions of the Florence "grand départ", what it's like being in teammate Alberto Bettiol's home region of Tuscany with the man himself, and about their love for Oatmilk. Be sure to subscribe to follow their journey around France over the next couple of weeks!
It's once again the most important time of the year for road cycling. On Saturday, the 111th Tour de France rolls out from Florence, Italy, and it's time to get ready for the racing. Velo Pod host Hannah Knapp is joined by former pro cyclist Bobby Julich and Velo European Correspondent Andrew Hood to discuss the upcoming 2024 Tour de France. The discussion begins with the GC contenders and the excitement surrounding Tadej Pogacar who is fresh off a commanding Giro d'Italia victory and looking to complete the elusive Giro-Tour double. For all the hype of the “Big Four” of Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglič does anyone else besides Pogi stand a chance at the yellow jersey after injury riddles seasons? The conversation then moves on to the must watch stages, with a focus on the grueling hilly opening stage that features seven consecutive climbs, and the challenging mountain stages and the final stage time trial in Nice. When the race finally wraps up, will Mark Cavendish leave as the sole owner of the Tour de France stage win record? He needs one more to best Eddy Merckx, but any win in the Tour de France is a tall order, especially at Cavendish's age. We also discuss the absence of American rider Sepp Kuss, the loyal lieutenant to Vingegaard and the reigning Vuelta champion, and the impact it will have on the race. Things then move on to a discussion about other American riders to watch, including Matteo Jorgensen and Nielson Powless. And of course there's Sean Quinn representing in his brand new national champion's jersey. Finally, Hoody and Bobby fill us in on what has them excited for the 2024 Tour de France beyond the GC race, including top riders to watch. Listen in wherever you stream podcasts for the full discussion, and tune in to Velo for Tour coverage all race long.

Although Kant considered him the greatest critic of his work, and Fichte thought him the most impressive mind of the generation, Salomon Maimon (1753-1800) has fallen into relative obscurity. Apiqoros: The Last Essays of Salomon Maimon (Hebrew Union College Press, 2021) draws attention to works written during the final years of Maimon's life. These essays are of particular interest: they show that even though Maimon was a self-proclaimed apiqoros grappling with the implications of Kantian philosophy, his thinking remained deeply influenced by his Jewish intellectual inheritance, especially by Maimonides. The volume is divided into two parts. The first is a general account of Maimon's intellectual biography, along with commentary on his final essays. The second part provides translations of those essays, the principal themes of which concern moral psychology. The reader is thus able to see the degree to which Maimon, at the end of his life, became skeptical of his effort to unite Kant and Maimonides, and remained a thinker caught "between two worlds." The book concludes with a translation of an account of Maimon's final hours, penned by one of his friends. Learn more about your ad choices. In part 2 of our conversation, Council Person De'Sean Quin walks us through leading a highly diverse community among various special interests that can, at times, appear in conflict: calls for racial justice; defunding the police; serving on the state's African American Commission; improving livelihood for immigrant communities and their access to services; reducing negative police encounters through community policing are a few of the topics we cover. I'm sure that you will enjoy this episode but please be sure to listen to both parts 1 and 2 to get the complete conversation.#racism; #racialjustice; #community policing; #faith; #race#abovethenoise24Stay in touch: Email us at: abovethenoise24@gmail.com Facebook: @abovethenoise24 Instagram: abovethenoise_gm Podcast art by Mario Christie.
De'Sean Quinn is the Assistant General Manager for Partnerships and Strategy at King County Metro in Seattle, Washington, and an elected Council Member for the City of Tukwilla, Washington. His life is one of serving his community where he focuses on the implementation of strategies and solutions that promote diversity, equity, and belonging in community development and public transportation: taking services to where they are needed most. He understands that politics, policies and infrastructure whether transportation, roads, bridges, or housing has the ability to have major effects on people's quality of life and can promote or remove disparities. It is up to leaders to ensure that they do not. #abovethenoise24Stay in touch: Email us at: abovethenoise24@gmail.com Facebook: @abovethenoise24 Instagram: abovethenoise_gm Podcast art by Mario Christie.
