Sean, Brooke, and Maggie (plus Stockton for fans who stick around until the end!) are back to break down all things Royals. From a six-game unbeaten run to the climb into 13th place and the joy of playing spoiler down the stretch, home fans were rewarded with a two-win week at the Riot. Taking down the Houston Dash and Racing Louisville in just a six-day span, we got to celebrate incredible team form as well as some individual masterclasses. Captain Paige Monaghan's streak continued, Janni Nation flew their flags high, Kaleigh Riehl found form on both sides of the ball, and Cloe Lacasse was back on the scoresheet (only aiming for the upper 90, of course). And what would a week be without Mina Tanaka dazzling Royals fans, NWSL viewers, and anyone lucky enough to witness the goal of the week winner, goal of the year contender, and mind-boggling skill behind that finish? We also preview our game against expansion comrades Bay FC this upcoming Saturday and talk through the almighty playoff generator (created by Alison Gale — https://bsky.app/profile/agale.bsky.social) to see just how our beloved Royals could pull off a historic (albeit nearly impossible) run to the postseason. Can you help us find the most realistic outcome? Check it out here: https://playoffs.alisongale.com
Is this the biggest match in the history of the women's game in England? With the World Cup final just days away, Sara is alongside 2014 World Cup winner Kat Merchant to preview Saturday's showdown at Twickenham between the Red Roses and Canada. They get a fascinating insight into Canadian rugby with former international Lesley McKenzie, who explains the complexities and challenges of representing the nation. We also hear from RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney on the importance of a Red Roses win and how they plan to build on the success of the tournament.

Get a grip. That's my advice today to the people complaining about the music festival planned for the area near Bottle Lake Forest, in Christchurch, over the new year period. Because I think the organisers are treating you very well and going above and beyond. The Rolling Meadows festival is normally held at Waipara, north of the city, but the organisers hope to have it in Christchurch for the first time this year. And because it's near people's homes, there have been complaints and there's even a petition doing the rounds, with people worried about the noise and disruption. The organisers have listened and they've done a couple of things. Which I'll get to. When I was thinking about where I stood on this, I almost settled on the side of the residents, because of the numbers. The number of people expected to attend and the number of vehicles that are expected in the area over the three-day period. They're not insignificant. Up to 10,000 people are expected to attend, with 5,000 expected to camp on site, and 4,000 vehicles a day are expected on the only public access to the festival car park. So there's going to be a lot of people converging on that area over those three days from December 29 to 31. But what I came back to is it's just for three days. Three days when quite a few of the locals are likely to be away on holiday, anyway. Three days when the organisers are going to be bending over backwards to try and keep these people happy. First of all, they've offered to pay for alternative accommodation for residents. They're also going to hire people to patrol the streets, deal with rubbish and keep homes safe. What's more, it's understood they've gone even further and have also offered to finish the performances earlier each night and reduce the noise levels. That's still not good enough, it seems. Which might be making the organisers a little bit nervous because they're yet to get consent from the city council. They say that if that doesn't happen, they'll just go back to having it in Waipara. Sure, the music blasting late into the night might be a pain in the backside if you're not into it, but it's just three nights. Good on the Rolling Meadows organisers for going the extra mile. Some people though, will never be satisfied.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): While it was a series win for the Red Sox over the Marlins, it didn't feel like it for Gordo and Sammy after the Sunday finale loss. How much blame does Isaiah Campbell get for forcing Aroldis Chapman to be unavailable in a much-needed save situation? Also, everything again goes back to the trade deadline and the bullpen miss that Craig Breslow maybe didn't factor in. And, everyone will be happy with the Sox making the playoffs, but Gordo has bigger aspirations. Send us a textNeuroscientist and author of The Nurture Revolution, Dr. Greer Kirschenbaum, PhD, joins us today to discuss the profound impact of nurturing care in the first three years of life. Drawing from decades of brain research, Greer explains how responsive, connected parenting in early life lays the neurological foundation for emotional regulation, mental health, and lifelong resilience—and why this critical window is so often misunderstood, underestimated, or dismissed. We also explore the neurobiology of fatherhood: how the dad's brain transforms during the postpartum period, how these changes depend on direct contact with the baby, and why emotional and hormonal shifts in men—though delayed in comparison to those in mothers—are no less critical. Greer shares research on baby-wearing, skin-to-skin, and how even daily rituals like bathing or making a habit of smelling the baby cause a rapid and necessary rewiring of the paternal brain toward deeper connection and long-term involvement. We also discussed trends in parenting, from the "be home by dinnertime" style of the 80s to the scheduled, anxious, overbearing parents who followed that generation. We considered the impact of parents who place excessive emphasis on a school-age child's emotions day in and day out, at the risk of foregoing important opportunities for teaching resilience. This conversation challenges outdated notions of independence, debunks harmful myths around bonding and separation, and makes a strong, evidence-based case for what Greer calls the "nurture revolution”. I took some devotees from a faraway land who visited California into a forest called Muir Woods, and it's got a stream going through it. One day, when we were walking through, we saw a ranger in there pulling out something: these long tongs, in gaiters on boots that go up to your hips. And so, we stopped by to talk to the friendly ranger. That's what you should do: always talk to a friendly ranger. And we asked him, "So, what are you doing?" And he said, "I'm taking micro trash out of the river." And I said, "What's micro trash?" He said, "You know how people open a pack of gum and that little piece that's left over somehow blows away in the wind and ends up in the water? Or somebody else throws pennies in because they think it'll bring them good luck? Everything everyone does ends up in the water, and it disturbs the sensory perception of the fish. And the fish are an important part of the ecology here," he said. And then he told us the story of the Coho Salmon who lived there. He said, "They're born here in this little area, and then they migrate downstream from the fresh water all the way to the ocean. And they swim around in the ocean for thousands of miles for several years, and then they come back to the very stream in which they were born. Not only do they do that, but they also swim upstream to find the very pond where they were born." And I said, "How do they do that?" And the ranger—and rangers know stuff—he said, "It's by smell. They can smell their way back. Of course, there are various theories, but that's a prevalent theory," and he presented it to me that day. And when I walked away, I was thinking, "Aha, this is our process too! Not by smell, but by hearing. We can hear the spiritual world. Golokera Prema dhana Harinama Sankirtana." When we chant Hare Krishna, and we can hear that, the sound of "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare" doesn't sound like anything else in this world. When your ears become so sensitive that you realize this is a different sound that comes from the Spiritual World, and you listen to it, the more you listen to it, the more you're drawn naturally to the spiritual world. It compels you. It changes your heart. 'Ceto-darpana-marjanam' – it cleanses the mirror of your mind, all at once, because Krishna is wonderful, and He's all-powerful, and He loves us. And if we chant His name over and over again and listen, then we will be drawn to the spiritual world. So we're endeavoring for this, and we know that if we're minding our own business, one day, Krishna came and knocked at our door, and we opened it, and He said, "Let's go right now, back home, back to God." He puts out His hand.
