Toni had the pleasure of being her mentee while enrolled in the Level Up Initiative mentorship cohort. The level up initiative is a community of growth mindset focused health professionals with the mission to instill better soft skills, an atmosphere of improved communication, and how to push towards being the best healthcare providers we can be. Ally attended Ithaca College for both her undergraduate studies and her DPT degree. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist In Orthopedics. Currently, she works for a small private practice in the Hudson Valley region of New York and splits her time between outpatient and ILF/ALF settings. Ally has served as a mentor in two cohorts of The Level Up Initiative and also assists in Marist College's Physical Therapy Program. Besides being a PT nerd, she likes to cool and is an avid hiker, kayaker, and gardener. She really drops some gems that we know will help out our listeners!!     On this episode of the Elevated Performance Podcast, we interview ex-pro basketball player turned Personal Trainer Arthur Santana. Arthur has a unique story. He was born in Brazil but moved to Queens, NY at a young age. He played college basketball at Eastern Wyoming and then Texas A&M International where he won his conference championship ring. He then decided to play professionally in Brazil, but was sidelined with a hip labral tear. He talks about his rehab process, and how the misdiagnosis and mishandling of his injury sidelined his professional basketball career. We talk about the difficulties that athletes go through with injuries, how to mentally deal with the rehabilitation process, and how to find your new direction when things change. Now he's a personal trainer in the Phoenix area. He is now working towards making positive changes with youth sports, and proper training of young middle-school/high-school basketball player. Despite being in school full time they have created several passive income streams to bring in revenue to help pay for PT school. On the logistical side, they have opened up their own business banking accounts to allocate funds to reinvest in their company. We all know that school is an expensive investment.
