Prepare to rethink everything you thought you knew about physical therapy as we swing the spotlight onto Doc Noah, a seasoned physiotherapist from Canada. Strap in for a thought-provoking journey that explores the glaring disparities between physical therapy landscapes in Canada and America, especially the jarringly high cost of education in the US compared to more affordable Canadian programs. Shedding light on common misconceptions about the field, Noah pulls back the curtain on the shifting perception of physical therapy and the need to generate high-quality social media content.Expect to be challenged as we delve into the often-overlooked collaboration between trainers and therapists, and the lurking arrogance in these professions. We'll take a spin around the infamous Dunning Kruger effect and its implications for humility and pain resolution, while placing a spotlight on the role of contextual effects and placebo in treatment effectiveness. Ignite your curiosity as we dissect the concept of upper cross syndrome, its impact on posture and pain, and the urgency of a holistic approach backed by robust research. As we approach the finale, brace yourself for a deep dive into the intricate complexities of pain management. We urge you to tread lightly when claiming full credit for a client's improvement and foster an open mind for the unknown. Let's navigate the murky waters of online health information with a critical eye, focusing on the essentiality of credibility over popularity, and the potential benefits of using social media to connect with therapists and trainers. To cap it all, Noah candidly shares his future aspirations of continuing his journey as a clinician and educator, leaving listeners with a dose of inspiration.Want to ask us a question? Ace the OCS exam by maximizing your study time with the OCS Final Frontier Prep Course. Welcome to the Healthcare Education Transformation podcast, where today we'll be talking with the Drs Priyam Sanghvi, PT, DPT, OCS, Amreen Kaur, PT, DPT, OCS, Fit, and Vrunda Kapadia, DPT, MS, PT about OCS Final Frontier. Their goal is to help people pass the OCS exam in the best way possible. They know that you are very busy and might have a lot of other things going on in your life, like taking care of your family or working a lot. So they made a plan that helps you study in five months and not take up too much of your time. One of the things that is very important is to use what you learn in the clinic. This means when you're helping real patients, you can also practice what you're learning for the test. Knowing how to take the test well is also very important. That is why they made a practice test with 250 questions to help you get ready for the real thing. Another thing is knowing what you're good at and what you're not good at when it comes to the test's subjects. For example, if you're good at talking about the spine but not so good at talking about joints, you should focus on studying joints more. Know the basic things really well and study a lot. You can use flashcards or ask a friend to quiz you to help you remember what you learned. Listen to the rest of the episode to learn more about OCS Final Frontier. Improve your clinical practice with this simple yet effective strategy. On this episode of Teach Me Something Tuesday on the Healthcare Education Transformation podcast, we'll be talking about the importance of reflection in becoming a great clinician. Reflection is a key component that many expert clinicians have, but often times novice clinicians do not. Reflecting on a day-to-day, week-to-week, or even year-to-year basis can help you identify patterns and areas for improvement. For this new year, take the time to reflect on how the previous year went and consider implementing reflection as a regular practice. Here's an episode that's a switch from our regular programming. On this episode of the Healthcare Education Transformation Podcast, we talk about how using current day popular culture such as Taylor Swift, can help students connect with the material more, to improve their critical thinking, even when they start off being bored with the class. Elizabeth Scala teaches in the English Department and currently runs its Honors Program. She is the Ellen Clayton Garwood Centennial Professor of English Literature. Before arriving at UT, she attended Wellesley College (BA) and Harvard University (MA, PhD) and held a post-doc at the University of Chicago, where she taught in the Freshman Humanities program. Her primary area of research concerns the works of medieval poet, Geoffrey Chaucer, and the textual environments in which his works survive—both manuscripts and early prints. She regularly teaches a course on Chaucer's Canterbury Tales each year. She has also been known to teach classes on Shakespeare, Harry Potter, Food Writing, and the films of Alfred Hitchcock. This is her third year directing the Junior Fellows Program, which she thoroughly enjoys.
