Welcome back paranormal lovers, I am so excited you get to listen to this episode finally as it was a pleasure to record. My guest is Elizabeth Entin, Host of WTF Just Happened podcast and is also an atheist who started to question things in this life we live(very similar to what your favorite host did). We had an amazing conversation about our journey through life questioning everything; we also of course talked about dreams, mediumship, religion, aliens, and of course we had to talk about Liz testifying in Harvey Weinstein's case. An informal but deeply personal conversation with renowned Evangelical and ExVangelical author Frank Schaeffer. Last week, we looked at a high-profile Evangelical author who grew up in the Evangelical world and fully embraced that worldview until reaching an age where he could assert some independent thinking and autonomy. By then, he had encountered a few […]

When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down our world, the forced sheltering in place with our families opened many people's eyes to how we were meant to live. The only real “how to” for a happy life is simple and exists in our DNA: a meaningful, loving connection to others. We evolved to feel happiest when caring for others, not when seeking power over them. As we move forward to a post-pandemic world, there is no better time than right now to rebalance our work and family lives in favor of love and living. In his new book, bestselling author Frank Schaeffer implores us to follow this directive: Fall in Love, Have Children, Stay Put, Save the Planet, Be Happy. Interview Guest: Frank Schaeffer is a New York Times bestselling author of more than a dozen fiction and nonfiction books, including Crazy for God and Keeping Faith: A Father Son Story about Love and the United States Marine Corps. He is the son of the late theologian and author Francis Schaeffer. He became a Hollywood film director and author, writing several internationally acclaimed novels depicting life in a strict evangelical household including books such as: Portofino, Zermatt, Saving Grandma, Letter to Lucy, and Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in God. While Frank was a conservative, fundamentalist Christian in his youth, he has changed his views, becoming a liberal Democrat, and a self-described atheist.
In this special bonus episode, I'm bringing back recent guest Frank Schaeffer, son of the hugely famous and influential Francis and Edith Schaeffer. As we discussed in our last episode, we'd return to talk about two of his books: Crazy for God and Why I'm an Atheist who Believes in God. I read them both (highly recommended, by the way), and that gave me ample content to fire questions at Frank. As always, Frank is knowledgeable, informed, up-to-date and above all, passionate about this subject. Enjoy this special episode as an early Christmas present! Can an atheist believe in God? Richard Dawkins leads the way!
Frank Schaeffer (author, artist) knows the toxic role our desire for certainty can play in religion and politics. He has seen it at its worst, and experienced the freedom of letting it go. In our conversation, he talks about how addicting it can be, how it has led us to the age of Trump and the beauty and wonder that can come on the other side of it. Check out his latest book Why I Am an Atheist Who Believes in God and find out more at frankschaeffer.com.
In another life, Frank Schaeffer would probably be an evangelical leader and someone with a powerful position in conservative politics. His father was the influential Christian theologian Francis Schaeffer and Frank himself, along with his father, helped create the modern Religious Right. Frank is the author of "Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One Of The Elect, Helped Found The Religious Right, And Lived To Take All (Or Almost All) Of It Back" and, more recently, "Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in God." We spoke about his role in creating the Religious Right, why evangelicals are flocking to Donald Trump when he shares almost none of their values, and what he would say to anyone who might vote for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein.
You may know Frank Schaeffer for his most recent book, New York Times best seller Why I'm an Atheist Who Believes in God: How to Give Love, Create Beauty and Find Peace or as the subject of the 2016 movie Let Me Be Frank. You may also know him as the heir apparent to influential fundamentalist, evangelical parents Francis and Edith Schaeffer. When Frank was on board with the hellfire and brimstone preaching circuit Jerry Falwell lent his plane to Frank. Listen to find out why Frank got off the plane, so to speak?
This is a conversation with Frank Schaeffer, a New York Times Best Selling Author whose most recent book is Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in GOD. We talked about his upbring and how he became an influential figure in the Religious Right, why he left, and what he now believes about life, religion, and politics; including the rise of Donald Trump.
Is it possible to be an atheist and believe in God? Well, Frank Schaeffer seems to thinks so. And the description of his new book, Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in God, gives us a glimpse into this seemingly contradictory reality: Caught between the beauty of his grandchildren and grief over a friend's death, Frank Schaeffer finds himself simultaneously believing and not believing in God—an atheist who prays. Schaeffer wrestles with faith and disbelief, sharing his innermost thoughts with a lyricism that only great writers of literary nonfiction achieve. Schaeffer writes as an imperfect son, husband and grandfather whose love for his family, art and life trumps the ugly theologies of an angry God and the atheist vision of a cold, meaningless universe. Schaeffer writes that only when we abandon our hunt for certainty do we become free to create beauty, give love and find peace. In this candid interview, Frank pulls no punches and points out what many of us sometimes think and feel--whether we wanna acknowledge it or not. So give yourself a break from trying to believe all the "right" things for a moment, and think about whether or not your beliefs now inspire you to give love, create beauty and find peace. Enjoy the show! IN THIS EPISODE, FRANK ANSWERED THE FOLLOWING: • Isn't calling yourself an "atheist who believes in God" a contradiction? • How has embracing paradox and uncertainty brought healing into your life? • Doesn't certainty give people hope? • Do you pray to a God on some days and live as an atheist on other days? • You feel connected to something bigger than yourself whenever you paint. Would you call that God? • Where do you find meaning? Is meaning something we create ourselves, or something we discover? • Why did you join the Greek Orthodox Church? Do you still go to church? • You talk a lot about your wife. What's her reaction to your theological evolution? Bob & Cass interview Frank Schaeffer about his latest book, "Why I'm an Atheist Who Believes in God." Once we get past that fact that semantically those words are mutually exclusive, an odd conversation can happen. This paradox, this tension, especially for those who were raised religious and are no longer, can stick in your head for decades. Perhaps some just can't completely shut the coffin on God? "Spiritual but not religious." How much space can remain for the possibility of a "god" or Prime Mover once one denies all supernaturalism, magic, superstition, and fully accepts Darwin's theory of evolution? Is it anything more than feelings or wishful thinking?
