Chuck Todd opens by previewing Mark Zandi's sobering economic forecast from this episode and arrives at a simple, devastating conclusion: every single policy decision Trump has made has made the economy worse, tax refunds have already been gobbled up by inflation, and the math guarantees voters will feel even worse by the midterms — meaning Republicans on the ballot should be furious with the president, and those in swing districts have no choice but to start distancing themselves from his policies now. But the real heat in this episode comes from his analysis of Trump's trip to Beijing to meet Xi Jinping, which he frames as the diplomatic equivalent of going hat in hand. He argues there's simply no winning a trade war with China, that scrapping the TPP and the JCPOA will go down as two of the most colossal strategic mistakes of the modern era, and that Trump's combined Iran and China policies have somehow managed to strengthen both adversaries simultaneously — to the point that his foreign policy decisions are starting to make him look, in Chuck’s words, like a Manchurian candidate. The world is now beginning to view the United States itself as the global boogeyman, and Trump's presidency is doing damage to America's long-term standing that will take a generation to repair. The brutal irony, he notes, is that Trump now needs more from China than China needs from America: China is the only country with real leverage over Iran, defenders of Taiwanese independence are quietly terrified that Trump could trade them away for an economic off-ramp, and Xi gets to sit across the table from a desperate American president whose negotiating position keeps eroding by the day. Then, Mark Zandi — chief economist at Moody's Analytics and one of the most quoted forecasters in America — joins the Chuck Toddcast to deliver a remarkably sobering verdict on where the economy actually stands: without the $700 billion currently being poured into AI investment, the United States would already be in or close to recession. The latest CPI and PPI reports came back ugly and uglier, oil shocks from the Iran war will keep prices elevated through 2027 even if the war ended tomorrow (Zandi says don't expect $3 gas again until then), real disposable income has been flat or falling for a year, FHA mortgage delinquencies are at their highest level since the Great Recession, and the bottom 40% of earners are living genuinely paycheck to paycheck. Zandi pushes back on lazy comparisons to the 1970s — conditions were objectively worse then, with a self-reinforcing wage-price loop that took a brutal recession to break — but warns that nominating Kevin Warsh as Fed chair specifically to cut rates would risk replaying exactly that movie, and that a policy of low rates at any cost would be catastrophic. The deeper diagnosis is brutal: employment was growing steadily and inflation was easing until Liberation Day, when both reversed simultaneously — meaning Trump's tariffs are the most obvious thing to cut, and the question of who actually benefits from them gets harder to answer every month. The mass deportation policy is costing the country roughly 0.5-0.7% of GDP growth that normal immigration would have provided, with agriculture, construction, hospitality and services taking direct hits. Zandi sees economic weakness most pronounced in the South and West, healthcare-anchored cities like Philadelphia outperforming Florida and Texas, and a national debt now exceeding GDP that's setting the conditions for a potential bond market sell-off — with global investors already being advised to diversify away from the dollar as America deglobalizes and the world quietly pulls away. His most striking observation: the fixes are all sitting on the shelf. America doesn't need new ideas to solve any of this — it needs the political will to use the ones we already have, and that will probably won't materialize until a genuine crisis forces it. By the midterms, voters will be feeling the worst of it, and while partisan media can try to spin the numbers all it wants — reality is much harder to spin. This episode continues the ICH Quality Series with an overview of ICH Q8 (Pharmaceutical Development), focusing on what it is, how it's structured, and how to think about it in practice.ICH Q8 defines the suggested contents for CTD Section 3.2.P.2 and aims to harmonize how pharmaceutical development is presented in regulatory submissions. It primarily applies to drug product development and later-stage submissions, where a full understanding of the product and process is expected. The guideline is structured in three parts: the core sections, which outline development elements such as formulation, manufacturing, and container closure; the annexes, which introduce key Quality by Design concepts including QTPP, CQAs, risk assessment, design space, and control strategy; and a final section that explains how this information is organized across the CTD.The episode walks through the relationship between TPP and QTPP, defines critical quality attributes, explains how design space is established through prior knowledge, risk assessment, and experimental work such as design of experiments, and outlines how a control strategy is built across materials, process controls, monitoring, and testing.High Level QBD(4 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orlPpfQvb5kQBD vs. Design Controls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_LSD0kKQ3400:00 Introduction to ICH Q800:42 Related QbD Videos01:12 Structure of ICH Q802:28 Objective and Scope04:49 Annexes and QbD Concepts05:20 Quality Target Product Profile06:33 Critical Quality Attributes07:09 Design Space and DoE09:17 Control Strategy10:06 Submission and Wrap-UpSubhi Saadeh is the Founder and Principal at Let's ComBinate, where he helps teams develop and control drug-device combination products by aligning quality systems, development, and regulatory expectations across drug and device domains.A consultant, auditor, and trainer, Subhi has worked across companies including Baxter, Pfizer, and Gilead, supporting the development, manufacturing, and launch of medical devices and combination products for vaccines, generics, and biologics.

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 37-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 36,759 on turnover of 8.4-billion N-T. The market closed at yet another record high on Wednesday- led once again by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing amid optimism over a new round of US-Iran peace negotiations. T-S-M-C, which accounts for over 40 percent of total market value, closed up 1.22-per cent at 2,080 N-T and its gains contributed about 200 points to the Tai-Ex's overall rise. TPP's Hsu Chung-hsin to replace Li Chen-hsiu in Legislature: CEC The Central Election Commission has announced that Hsu Chung-hsin of the Taiwan People's Party will replace the vacant at-large legislative seat following the removal of Li Zhen-hsiu. Li was expelled from the T-P-P earlier this week and subsequently lost her legislative seat. Hsu will serve for the remainder of the current term of the 11th Legislative Yuan. Li took office in February but faced controversy due to questions over whether she had completed the legal process of renouncing (放棄) her China nationality. The T-P-P later expelled Li after she made comments the party said harmed the party's reputation and unity. Frontal system to bring wet weather in coming days The Central Weather Administration says a weather front that began to affect the island yesterday will have a bigger impact today and as the system strengthens, rainfall will become more noticeable and extend southward to Chiayi County. However, the administration's forecast center says the front will be relatively weak and will only lower temperatures slightly in north. Another weather front is expected to approach Taiwan tomorrow - but the forecast center says it is not likely to bring much rain or a significant drop in temperatures. However, seasonal wind system forecast to arrive over the weekend is expected to bring a noticeable (顯而易見的) fall in the mercury in the north - but that weather pattern is not expected to have much of an effect in the center and south. Nigeria Intelligence on Planned Attacks in Abuja Niger An internal memo obtained by the Associated Press shows that Nigeria's security forces have received intelligence on planned attacks on the capital city, Abuja, and neighboring Niger state by terrorist groups. According to the memo, the planned targets are the international airport, a prison and a military detention center. And the attacks would be carried out by Boko Haram and and sleeper cells of its breakaway faction, known as ISWAP. Nigeria is battling a complex security crisis, especially in the north, where there is a decade-long insurgency (叛亂,造反) and several armed groups that kidnap for ransom. Last week, the U.S. authorized its non-emergency government employees and their families to leave the Abuja embassy owing to a spike in terrorist attacks, kidnapping, and violent crimes in the country, especially in the north. Eyck Freymann — Hoover Fellow at Stanford University and author of the new book Defending Taiwan: A Strategy to Prevent War with China — joins the Chuck Toddcast for a riveting conversation about the world's most dangerous geopolitical flashpoint at a moment when America is stretched dangerously thin by the Iran war. Freymann argues that the remainder of Trump's term represents a unique window of opportunity for Xi Jinping to move on Taiwan, not necessarily through a dramatic amphibious invasion — which Taiwan's geography makes incredibly difficult and which would result in the U.S. destroying China's navy and air force in a high-intensity conflict — but through coercion, quarantine, or political manipulation designed to change Taiwan's orientation without firing a shot. He explains that Taiwan is more than a strategic asset for China: it's a democratic success story that represents a shining alternative to CCP rule, making it the lynchpin of Xi's "national rejuvenation" project. Freymann unpacks Xi's recent purges of top military leaders as a sign that he now has full control of the PLA, notes that Western intelligence agencies have struggled to penetrate China's inner circle, and warns that Xi may issue direct threats to Taiwan during their 2028 election — a pattern of coercion that the U.S. must develop tools to deter. The conversation turns to what a realistic defense strategy looks like — and what the Iran war is teaching Beijing in real time. Freymann pushes back on war games that show China winning, arguing they aren't a crystal ball and that the U.S. retains significant advantages in cyber warfare and conventional naval power. But he warns that China is more likely to pursue a "quarantine" rather than a full blockade — a semantic distinction with enormous legal and strategic implications, since a blockade would turn the entire world against China while a quarantine creates more ambiguity. He notes that China is carefully studying both Russia's failures in Ukraine and America's struggles in Iran to learn what not to do. His bottom line: in the best-case scenario, we're headed for another cold war — but China doesn't actually want to fight the United States because the risks are far too high, and the American public, already exhausted by Iran, has zero appetite for another conflict. Chuck Todd reacts to the breaking news that Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi — the second Cabinet member ousted in a month after Kristi Noem — and warns that what should alarm Americans isn't Bondi's departure but what comes next. He explains that like Jeff Sessions before her, Bondi apparently had lines she wouldn't cross: Trump grew frustrated that she hadn't prosecuted enough of his political enemies and was dissatisfied with her handling of the Epstein files. He traces Bondi's complicated history with Trump back to 2013, when she received fraud complaints against Trump University as Florida's attorney general, then dropped the investigation after a Trump PAC donated to her campaign — a transactional relationship that defined her entire arc. He argues that Trump doesn't believe in an independent justice system and never has, that he doesn't care about the law but only about loyalty, and that Bondi — a former Democrat who grew up in politics and was once a mostly by-the-book prosecutor in Tampa — has now destroyed her reputation with everyone by serving a president who discards people the moment they become inconvenient. With Trump's former personal criminal defense attorney Todd Blanche now installed as acting AG and Lee Zeldin reportedly under consideration as permanent replacement, Todd warns the DOJ could get far worse. He closes by turning to the Iran war's cascading energy crisis, which he says will be the worst the world has ever seen with Russia and China as the primary beneficiaries, and lays out the impossible bind: the U.S. will likely have to deploy ground troops to secure the Strait of Hormuz, but there will be disasters whether Trump commits those forces or simply walks away. Then, Eyck Freymann — Hoover Fellow at Stanford University and author of the new book Defending Taiwan: A Strategy to Prevent War with China — joins the Chuck Toddcast for a riveting conversation about the world's most dangerous geopolitical flashpoint at a moment when America is stretched dangerously thin by the Iran war. Jeff Bright in conversation with David Eastaugh  https://www.jeffreyalanbright.com/ https://thepleasurespale.bandcamp.com/ https://jeffbrightthesunshineboys.bandcamp.com/ The Pleasures Pale was an influential indie quartet+ based in Dayton, Ohio, active from 1985 to 1987. Often compared to UK groups of the era, TPP's influences can now be read as more diverse — taking cues from post-punk, rockabilly, swing, Motown and Dayton funk. A band for misfits, their extensive, lyric-driven output sought to light a way through the rust belt's post-industrial bleakness.

The final roll-call vote on the impeachment is scheduled for May 19, following a series of public hearings and review meetings. Lawmakers from the KMT and TPP announced a plan to impeach Lai at a joint news conference in Taipei on Dec 19, after the Lai administration on Dec 15 refused to promulgate an amendment to the government revenue allocation plan that had been enacted by the island's "legislature". The amendment, revised by the opposition parties, would have allocated a larger share of government revenue to local governments. The Lai administration's refusal marked the first time a Taiwan leader has failed to enact a law passed by the "legislature". According to the impeachment schedule, the island's "legislative body" will hold public hearings on Jan 14 and 15, followed by review meetings on Jan 21 and 22, as well as May 13 and 14, during which Lai will be required to answer questions from legislative representatives. On Wednesday, Peng Qing'en, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, criticized Lai's actions at a regular news conference in Beijing, saying that they run counter to the public will and have eroded the support of the people in Taiwan."周三,国务院台办发言人彭清恩在北京举行的例行记者会上批评赖清德的相关行为,指出其违背民意,削弱了台湾民众的支持。Lai has stubbornly adhered to a 'Taiwan independence' stance, repeatedly undermining democracy and freedom, abusing the judicial system to suppress political opponents, engaging in 'green terror' and creating a 'chilling effect'," Peng said. He further condemned the Lai administration for disregarding the welfare of the people in Taiwan for political gain, as well as manipulating and provoking political strife for personal political gain, which has led to strong public opposition. At the same time, the online petition to "impeach Lai", launched in Taiwan on Dec 18, has reportedly surpassed 8 million signatures, according to media reports. Tsai Cheng-yuan, a former lawmaker and a political commentator in Taiwan, said, "Lai spends all his time focusing on 'Taiwan independence', without considering Taiwan's economic development or social harmony." An impeachment motion against the leader or deputy leader of the Taiwan authorities must first be proposed by at least half of the total lawmakers and approved by a two-thirds majority before being submitted to the judicial body for review. Currently, the "legislative yuan" has 113 representatives, including 52 from the KMT, 51 from Lai's Democratic Progressive Party, eight from the TPP and two independents.

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 633-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 27,213 on turnover of $10.4-billion N-T. Shares in Taiwan closed lower Wednesday after giving up earlier gains, as investors stayed cautious ahead of an Nvidia Corp. investor conference and the release of meeting minutes by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Analysts say the bellwether electronics sector failed to stage a successful technical rebound as tech stocks saw their gains eroded amid lingering valuation concerns after recent strong gains among AI stocks. They say investors continued to pocket profits built recently for now with TSMC in focus. KMT, TPP leaders meet to discuss possible electoral collaboration The leaders of Taiwan's opposition KMT and TPP met Wednesday to discuss the prospects for collaboration (合作) in the 2026 local elections. Speaking during their public meeting in New Taipei, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wun told TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang that she hoped the parties' recent cooperation in the Legislature would deepen in the run-up to local elections. Cheng acknowledged "difficulties" in previous efforts toward a KMT-TPP alliance, but said that after meeting Huang, she felt strongly that they were on the same page. Huang, meanwhile, said he would direct the TPP's think tank to reach out to its KMT counterpart to discuss local governance and the parties' 2026 election goals. The attack hit two apartment blocks, injuring at least 73 people. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted most of the 476 drones and 48 missiles fired overnight. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in Turkey seeking diplomatic support against Russia. He met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Meanwhile, Romania and Poland scrambled (緊急起飛) fighter jets in response to the attacks. Russia claims the strikes targeted Ukrainian energy facilities and military-industrial targets in retaliation (報復) for Kyiv's actions. Brazil NPO: Crime Groups Expanding in Amazon A prominent nonprofit group in Brazil says that criminal gangs expanded their presence in the Brazilian Amazon last year and are now operating in nearly half of the region's municipalities. The Brazilian Forum on Public Safety says the growth of these crime groups in the region, where U.N. climate talks are currently taking place, is driving violence and threatens the preservation of the world's largest tropical rainforest. The nonprofit says organized crime groups are now active in 45-percent of over 770 municipalities. That's a jump of 32% from last year's report. The NPO says combating organized crime in the Amazon will require a focus on alternate ways of developing the region besides “predatory exploitation (剝削,開發利用) of resources.” That was the I.C.R.T. The Classical Academies' Transition Partnership Program (TPP) helps students with special needs transition from high school to adulthood by supporting them as they explore employment, continuing education, and independent living. TPP Specialist Melissa Hilbig and Instructor Deb Kissner share how students can identify their strengths, connect with opportunities, and gain the skills, strategies, and resources needed for success. The program focuses on normalizing disabilities to promote independence, empowerment, and inclusion. While designed for students with IEPs or 504 plans, TPP builds valuable skills such as self-advocacy, collaboration, and confidence that benefit all learners.

In this episode of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Podcast, host Elizabeth H. Mack, MD, MS, FCCM, speaks with Anil Sachdev, MD, FICCM, of the Institute of Child Health, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, India about his team's study, “Transpulmonary Pressure-Guided Mechanical Ventilation in Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in the PICU: Single-Center Retrospective Study in North India, 2018–2021,” published in the March 2025 issue of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Sachdev explains the development and implementation at his institution of a protocol for transpulmonary pressure (TPP) monitoring in pediatric patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. His team compared outcomes of patients receiving TPP-guided ventilation with those receiving conventional mechanical ventilation. Study findings suggested that TPP monitoring enabled the use of higher positive end-expiratory pressure with greater clinician confidence, resulting in improved oxygenation. Study limitations included small sample size and challenges of equipment availability, cost, and obtaining parental consent. The study was conducted in part during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further constrained resources and study participation. The discussion concludes with Dr. Sachdev's insights into practical challenges of TPP monitoring, including inserting delicate esophageal catheters in infants and young children and the necessity of correct catheter position for accurate readings. In this high-energy episode, the host unpacks Donald Trump's bold, disruptive economic strategy—one reshaping global trade and pushing back against woke cultural dominance. From slapping India with 25% tariffs for siding with Russia and China, to unleashing American energy by declaring an emergency to cut red tape, Trump is rewriting the rules. The episode revisits how disastrous trade deals like the TPP were narrowly defeated, preserving U.S. sovereignty and economic leverage. But it doesn't stop there—Trump's crackdown on censorship regimes, both foreign and domestic, and the crumbling of the Human Rights Campaign's corporate chokehold mark a cultural turning point. As DEI departments are dismantled and bold, unapologetically American ads re-emerge, the host declares: the woke era is ending—and economic and cultural liberty are making a comeback.

In this fiery double-segment, the host celebrates Donald Trump's historic trade win with the European Union—so dominant even France called it an act of "submission." With billions flowing into the U.S. Treasury and long-blocked markets finally opening to American producers, Trump's deal marks a crushing defeat of the globalist TPP agenda. The host credits listeners for helping torpedo that disastrous plan in 2016, exposing how close America came to surrendering trade and immigration control to foreign bureaucrats. Then the focus shifts to the latest front in the culture war: heterosexuality under fire. A new ad campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney sparks outrage from leftist TikTokers who liken it to “Nazi propaganda” for daring to celebrate traditional beauty and overt heterosexual appeal. The host explores how liberal outrage culture, driven by identity politics, continues to target anything resembling normalcy—even as consumers respond positively to what the left condemns. It's a tale of two Americas: one winning on the world stage, the other spiraling into cultural absurdity.

Today I'm joined by Michael Lind, co-founder of New America and the author of Hell to Pay: How the Suppression of Wages is Destroying America. Michael walks us through the last couple decades of globalization, including how both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump came to denounce the TPP. He then argues that Trump 2.0 has done some good things with tariffs—including partial decoupling from China—but much of the administration's actions have been too haphazard. We also dive into the delicate balancing act of the “new” and “old” right. Where do they intersect? What do Reaganites think of DOGE? Switching gears, what about the good and bad of Biden's industrial policy? Can Democrats move past “Trump bad” and define a policy vision for the country? Join us for a wide-ranging and fascinating discussion.A transcript of this episode is available on the post page on our website.
