(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Hundreds of Nigerians freed from Boko Haram captivity after months Ready for some good news? Hundreds of Nigerians, who had been abducted by Boko Haram Muslim militants during a devastating March attack, have just been freed after months in captivity, reports International Christian Concern. It's one of the largest releases of hostages in the region in recent years.  Officials claim that the Nigerian army rescued 360 captives from a remote hideout in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State near the border with the country of Cameroon. However, local community leaders insist that local negotiations, rather than military action, secured their freedom. Pentagon on lock down over “air quality issue” On June 11th, the Pentagon was placed on lockdown after officials detected an “air quality issue” inside the building, reports NewsNation.com. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the War Department activated standard safety procedures, including a “shelter-in-place order for affected areas. The Pentagon has sophisticated systems to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. Those systems have detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance.” Trump adds SAVE Act to Pentagon reconciliation bill Despite the fact that the U.S. Senate has failed to make progress towards passing the much-needed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE America Act, which would secure our nation's elections, President Donald Trump is not throwing in the towel. In a post on Truth Social, he just announced a huge move to get the act passed by adding it directly to the upcoming $350 billion Pentagon reconciliation bill. This way, the legislation can clear the Senate with a simple majority, rather than the 60 votes needed under current rules. Referencing the SAVE Act, he wrote, “THE SAVE AMERICA ACT … will protect our Elections for Generations to come.  Our Warriors protect our most Sacred Rights, and Voting is at the top. Time to defend that Right for every American!” Yesterday, President Trump made these comments from the Oval Office. TRUMP: “All voters must show photo I.D.  So, you go to vote and show photo ID. Not complicated. But who could oppose it? … “All voters must show a little thing called proof of citizenship. No mail-in ballots except for illness, disability, military, or travel. So, we're being very progressive. We just don't want cheating. You see what's happening in California. They're rigging the election.” Urge your two U.S. Senator to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act by calling 202-224-3121. That's 202-224-3121. Suspicious newly registered homeless votes in LA Mayoral race In a suspicious turn of events to block Spencer Pratt's candidacy for Los Angeles mayor, thousands of homeless voters were registered to vote at Los Angeles  shelters — despite many not living there or the facilities not having any beds at all, reports the New York Post. As Spencer Pratt was eliminated by Nithya Raman in the mayor's race during additional counting of votes on June 8th, one drop-in center, St. Joseph Center in Venice, which had received $600,000 from Nithya Raman, had 185 registered voters at the address but offers absolutely no accommodations.  After the New York Post inquired about this suspicious activity, the photograph of Raman presenting a check to St. Joseph's was taken down from its website. The revelations have prompted U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli to say he will investigate the concerns uncovered by The New York Post and “follow the evidence” to see if the law has been broken.  A review of records shows 7,600 voters tied to homeless shelters and service providers. The largest concentration of homeless voters was at the Midnight Mission in Skid Row, where voting records show 1,160 registrations — but its website shows it only has beds for 9% of that number -- 84 men and 36 women. Something stinks in Denmark! Proverbs 17:23 says, "A wicked man takes a covert bribe from his bosom to pervert the ways of justice." ACLU asserts a “religious right” to abortion in Indiana The Thomas More Society is weighing in on a pending ACLU-inspired abortion case before the Indiana Supreme Court, urging the state's highest jurists not to recognize a so-called “right” to abortion under the guise of religious freedom, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Indiana law bans most surgical abortions. Sadly, chemical abortions persist due to mail-order Abortion Kill Pills, which the state legislature has so far been unable to quash. The ACLU suit claims that denying Indiana mothers abortions would violate Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a 2015 law that says that government may not “substantially burden a person's exercise of religion.” Indiana Republican Attorney General Todd Rokita has appealed, and the Indiana Supreme Court agreed in April to take the case. Oral arguments are set to begin in September. Thomas Olp with the Thomas Moore Society, said, “This case is a Trojan Horse. The ACLU and its clients want to call this religious liberty, but it isn't—not under any historically honest understanding of the term. From Cicero to John Locke to the framers of Indiana's Constitution, the natural law tradition that gave us religious freedom has never treated the taking of innocent life as an exercise of religion.” Missionary David Brainerd had a heart to see Indians saved And finally, on June 12, 1744, David Brainerd was ordained by the Presbyterian Church to be a missionary to the New England Indians. He first went to an Indian village on the Housatonic River in Connecticut. Then, he studied the Algonquin languages in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. According to the Generations-published Taking the Americas for Jesus, Brainerd loved the Indians which is why he wanted them to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. He said, “I taught that men are sinners. All sinners will be judged by God. Then, I told them that Christ could save them. Christ was a great Savior.  All who believe in Jesus will be saved.” Even living in a wigwam and missing many meals, Brainerd was undeterred.  Indian witch doctors tried to poison him. He asked, “Why can't your magic harm me?” Sometimes Indians trusted in Christ. But many did not want to leave their idols. In 1745, Brainerd went to an Indian tribe in New Jersey where 100 Indians converted to Christianity. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.  Redistricting Mania and the Christian Nationalist Push for Minority Rule Brad Onishi and Dan Miller discuss the fallout from a recent Supreme Court decision they say further rolled back the Voting Rights Act, triggering aggressive redistricting across states like Louisiana, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Texas, and Tennessee, including carving up Memphis's Black-majority district. Give to help Chris make Truce Boy, the Religious Right did not like Carter, at least by 1980. Some of them, like Pat Robertson, had high hopes for him at the start. But they quickly grew to distrust the man from Georgia. Why? In this episode, Chris goes through some of the top issues that evangelicals had with Jimmy Carter. They include his article in Playboy Magazine that mentions his struggles with sex (but also featured a strong gospel message), his support of the ERA, and his lackluster responses to their questions about abortion. But... It's not as if Ronald Reagan was significantly better. Reagan was not a regular churchgoer like Carter. He consulted a medium for his decisions. He was a divorced former actor in a time when evangelicals didn't like Hollywood. So... how bad was this Carter guy that they didn't vote for him? On this episode of Unsupervised Learning Razib talks to Aaron Renn. Renn is a writer, consultant, and urban analyst known for his work on the challenges facing American cities and religious institutions in the 21st century. He is a contributor to The American Reformer and the author of Life in the Negative World, a book exploring the cultural shifts regarding Christianity in America. Renn previously served as a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for five years and as a contributing editor for City Journal, having established his voice on urban policy through his widely cited blog, The Urbanophile. Prior to his career in public policy and journalism, he spent 15 years in management and technology consulting, including a tenure as a partner at Accenture. Before getting into the meat of the discussion, Renn and Razib discuss management consulting and the value that a firm like Accenture provides a corporation. Razib wonders whether consultants are simply brought in to rubber-stamp what management has already concluded, but is aiming to pin the blame on an external actor (e.g., layoffs). Renn argues that this is not the case, and in fact, though he acknowledges that management consultants provide an outsider view unencumbered by internal politics that allows them to be taken more seriously. They also discuss the impact of AI on some services that management consultants provide, and the future of white-collar work. Then Renn goes on an extended riff on the rise and fall, and possible new rise, of the Midwestern social and economic landscape. A native of southern Indiana, Renn has spent time in Chicago and New York before settling down in the affluent suburb of Carmel, Indiana. Razib and Renn discuss the decline of the Northeast and the industrial Heartland, and what makes the Midwest unique, with its origins as part of the original early American republican frontier. Renn discusses candidly the upsides and downsides of living in "flyover country," from its peace and tranquility, to the reality that Midwestern metropolitan areas do not have the same intellectual and cultural dynamism as coastal cities. Finally, Razib asks Renn, a Protestant Christian who identifies as evangelical, about the cultural and theological shifts occurring on what was once called the Religious Right. Renn argues that this movement's peak was really in the mid-1990's, and the whole thirty-year period since has seen retreat and retrenchment. He believes that Christians have lost control of the cultural narrative and have to accept a position as outsiders. Renn also addresses the decline of premillennial dispensationalism, most famously illustrated in the Left Behind series of the 1990s and early 2000s, and the rise of Christian nationalism, and in particular, the role of Reformed pastor Doug Wilson in this shift.

The Trump administration alleged that Pretti threatened agents with a gun. But videos appear to show Pretti, who was carrying a licensed handgun, holding only his phone in his hand when he was tackled and agents disarming Pretti before he was shot and killed. Following Pretti's death, thousands of protesters once again flooded the streets of Minneapolis. One of them was Rob Schenck, an evangelical minister who was a religious-right leader for decades. But Schenck began doubting the movement and his own role in it—especially once President Donald Trump came to power. But for over two decades now, I've watched the tradition that formed me transform into something I barely recognize. In this essay, I explore the concept of "sequential complicity"—how small, seemingly reasonable compromises lock communities into escalating patterns of moral accommodation. Using research on how ordinary German Christians became bystanders during the Nazi era, I trace a similar pattern in white American evangelicalism: from the real origins of the Religious Right in the 1970s (hint: it wasn't abortion), through Reagan, through the Iraq War, and into the Trump era. The data is stark—white evangelicals have undergone the most dramatic ethical shift of any religious group in modern polling history. And the most devout churchgoers aren't the exception; they're the most captured. This isn't an outsider's attack. It's a lament from someone who still reads his Bible every night and talks to Jesus before bed. I'm not asking anyone to become a Democrat. They were there at the dawn of radio, with the first commercial broadcast of music being played around Christmas in 1906, and the gospel of Luke was read. A similar story is true for television. Evangelists loved the new medium, with preachers like Oral Roberts using it to spread their brand of Pentecostalism. Pentecostalism was made for television. Where many denominations featured calm worship services, it seemed like anything could happen with Oral Roberts' brand of Pentecostalism. He healed, he made big claims, and he made a lot of money. Roberts' format was followed by people like Jim Bakker and Pat Robertson. Pat Robertson created the Christian Broadcasting Network, which later functioned as his platform for launching the political careers of politicians and, eventually, himself. Robertson's influence is all over evangelicalism, from the ubiquity of consumerism and prosperity ideology to our involvement in political movements. He formed the Christian Coalition and was a leader in the Council for National Policy. Robertson attended many of the seminal meetings of the Religious Right. And his message was amplified by his powerful television platform. Death of John MacArthur and other renowned Bible teachers leaves leadership void.For at least 30 years, if you studied the Bible on your own or in a small group, you had a good chance of finding help from John MacArthur or Kay Arthur, both of whom died in 2025.MacArthur's expository sermons laid the groundwork for the growth of Reformed theology around the world, while Arthur inspired younger generations of women to engage in serious inductive Bible study. Their published and spoken words will continue to form Christians studying the unchanging, ever-dynamic Word. But MacArthur's longtime leadership of Shepherds Conference, Grace Community Church, The Master's University, and The Master's Seminary leaves a gaping institutional void.Voddie Baucham, who often collaborated with MacArthur, died unexpectedly in 2025 at only 56 years old. Give to help Chris continue to make Truce William R. “Bill” Bright was born in 1921 in Coweta, Oklahoma. Though raised in a religious environment, he initially pursued business success and personal ambition. While attending the University of Southern California, Bright experienced a dramatic spiritual transformation through the influence of Christian leaders like Henrietta Mears. This encounter led him to surrender his life to Jesus Christ and ultimately shaped his calling toward full-time evangelism. In 1951, Bill and his wife, Vonette, founded Campus Crusade for Christ at UCLA with a vision to reach college students with the Gospel. He later developed The Four Spiritual Laws, a simple evangelistic tract that became one of the most widely distributed Christian tools in history. Under his leadership, Campus Crusade grew into a global movement with ministries focused on students, athletes, families, the military, and professionals. Bright also launched the Jesus Film Project in 1979, which became one of the most-translated and widely viewed films in the world. What's missing from most short bios of Bright is the depth of his involvement in the Religious Right. He organized or was present at some of their key gatherings, founded a publishing house to print their words, and raised funds among them. Bill Bright remained dedicated to fulfilling the Great Commission, often engaging in long periods of fasting and prayer for spiritual guidance. He received the prestigious Templeton Prize in 1996 for his contributions to religion and reinvested the award into Christian ministry. When he died in 2003, Campus Crusade for Christ had expanded into nearly every nation, with thousands of staff and volunteers sharing the Gospel worldwide. Bright's life stands as a testament to the global impact one person can have through faith, vision, and relentless obedience to God's call. My guest for this episode is historian John G. Donald Trump is forcing his Justice Department to go after his political enemies for mortgage fraud, and like always, this appears to be pure projection on Trump's part. An investigation by ProPublica has revealed that Trump likely did the exact same thing he's accusing everyone else of doing, which is taking out mortgages for homes and then violating the terms of the loan by renting out the properties. This happened in the 1990's, so the statute of limitations would prevent any prosecution, but it does explain why Trump thinks he can bust everyone else for this very specific crime. Donald Trump is terrified that the Supreme Court is going to take away his power to enact tariffs on any country for any reason, so he came out boasting that he'll just enact tariffs a different, albeit more complicated, way in the future. This was Trump's attempt to get the court to just let him do what he wants to do because he's going to do it no matter what, and it was painfully obvious that this was the point he was trying to make. The Supreme Court on Monday began hearing arguments in the case of Trump v. Slaughter, which is a case that conservative lawyers have been waiting for a long time to get settled. If the courts side in the conservatives' favor, which is the likely outcome, it would hand Trump the power to fire anyone and everyone that he wants within the executive branch of the government without cause or reason. This would give Trump complete control over every aspect of the executive branch, increasing his power in ways that could reshape the government for a generation. A leaked Department of Justice memo obtained by journalist Ken Klippenstein has revealed that Pam Bondi's DOJ is compiling lists of people that they claim are part of "domestic terrorist" groups, but in reality they are just people, organizations, and groups that are against the Trump agenda. Things that could get average people on these lists include expressing disdain for the administration's immigration raids, calling out the hypocrisy of the Religious Right, or even just expressing discontent with our capitalist economy. These are just a few of the new items that constitute "thought crimes" in modern day America.According to sources from the Department of Homeland Security, the sense around the agency is that Kristi Noem is going to be fired "really soon," as Trump has seemingly lost all patience with her. This comes as a bit of a surprise, considering the fact that Noem has been the public face of ICE since taking over DHS, and her raids have made headline news since the beginning. But Trump is reportedly not happy about the low deportation numbers, and loyalty can't overcome a lack of results. Young voters were shockingly supportive of Donald Trump in the election and through the first few months he was in office, but the tide has turned in a short amount of time and they now overwhelmingly reject him. According to the latest polling data, Trump went from having a 10-point net approval rating from voters aged 18 to 30, but now he is 47 points UNDERWATER with that age group. Investigative reporter Katherine Stewart first turned her attention to the Religious Right in the United States in 2007 after her child's school hosted what's called a Good News Club. She was surprised to learn of religious program in public schools, and is an investigative reporter whose work has appeared in The New York Times and other major publications, so she started researching and that led to her first book on the subject, “The Good News Club.” She recently stopped by the studio to chat about her third book on this subject, published in February, called “Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy.”

Send us a textKen Fong and I unpack the life and legacy of Dr. James Dobson, who just recently passed away. For many of us, Dobson's voice was a constant presence in American evangelical homes. He was the trusted “family counselor” who seemed to offer simple, practical guidance about raising children, strengthening marriages, and protecting the home. His books—Dare to Discipline, Bringing Up Boys, Bringing Up Girls—were bestsellers, and his radio program reached countless millions. They shaped how countless parents understood what it meant to raise a family in a “Christian” way. On the surface, it all seemed non-political, even innocent.But as the years progressed, it became clear that Dobson was building something much bigger than a parenting movement. He founded Focus on the Family, moved his empire to Colorado Springs, and began to insert himself more directly into politics. Along the way, he inspired children's programming and homeschooling curriculum. He trained thousands of young people in “Biblical World View.” He became an outspoken promoter of Donald Trump. He engineered the identification of white evangelicalism with the Religious Right, commandeering the Republican Party into an unrelenting culture war. Ken Fong shares his research on the roots of Dobson's work in the discredited “science” of eugenics and names his mentor in psychology, the famed eugenicist and atheist Paul Popenoe.As Senator Barry Goldwater warned back in 1980, when religious leaders gain control of a political party, it creates a dangerous situation. Goldwater said, “These people believe they're acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise.” Dobson embodied that posture - NO COMPROMISE.For those of us who grew up under his influence, the costs were real. His insistence on “breaking the spirit” of children, corporal punishment, his crusade against the LGBTQ+ community — fighting same-sex marriage in California's Prop 8 campaign, promoting conversion therapy, framing homosexuality as a threat to children—all of these left deep wounds. Add to all that, he applauded and facilitated the election of this current wrecking-ball administration.    As we remember his legacy, we must not ignore his undeniable contribution to the rancorous Us-versus-Them culture in our perilously divided nation. In this episode, Ken Fong and I peel back the layers of Dobson's legacy. What if everything you thought you knew about why evangelical Christians became politically active was completely wrong? Today I sit down with one of America's greatest historians of religion, Randall Balmer, to do some serious myth-busting. We dive deep into what Balmer calls "the abortion myth" - the widely believed but false story that evangelicals mobilized politically in the 1970s over Roe v. Wade. The real origin story? It's much more uncomfortable - it was actually about defending racial segregation in Christian schools when the IRS threatened their tax-exempt status. Balmer takes us through this hidden history he discovered firsthand at a 1990 gathering of religious right leaders, where architect Paul Weyrich admitted abortion "had nothing to do with" their political mobilization.
