Summer is quickly approaching, which means that we're in full CERTIFIED mode at the Certiport office. We are weeks away from our annual CERTIFIED Educator Conference. Taking place in Orlando, FL, June 17-19, CERTIFIED is the only education conference dedicated exclusively to exploring the full promise of certification in the classroom—by providing administrators, teachers, and industry experts with an engaging, energized forum for professional development, sharing their ideas, and experiences. In this episode, we chatted with our Corporate Events Manager, Dominique Delbar and Director of Field Marketing, Ben Lambert. They gave us an inside view of CERTIFIED 2024, including an overview of the keynotes and breakouts, what parties are happening, and how to get involved in the student competitions. We talked about the total costs to attend, so you can budget with your districts and administrators ahead of time. Finally, we took a stroll down memory lane to talk about how CERTIFIED has changed over the years, and what new resources are available to help teachers year-round. We can't wait to see you all at CERTIFIED this year! Get more information here: https://certified.certiport.com/conference/. “If you look at the strategic sourcing process, I think it was made for complex categories. That's one of the things that makes this so exciting as a potential lighthouse project. It's a great opportunity for procurement to say, ‘This is why we do this. This is all of the value we can add.'” – Benjamin Lambert, Principal at Efficio Navigating complex spend categories can be challenging for procurement – the stakes tend to be high, stakeholder resistance is real, and the category may be nuanced or unfamiliar to procurement. At the same time, complex spend categories give procurement some of the best opportunities to flex their strategic muscles and demonstrate the depth and breadth of value they can provide across the business. To understand how procurement should leverage the opportunity associated with complex spend categories, Philip Ideson spoke with Ben Lambert, Principal at Efficio. According to Ben, procurement needs a mindset shift when it comes to complex spend - it is time for procurement to get excited about complex spend categories rather than fearing the potential risks. In this episode, Ben and Phil talk about: What makes a category “complex” How procurement can establish their reputation as a true strategic partner beyond tactical execution Ways procurement can deliver maximum value even when the category is unfamiliar Links: Ben Lambert on LinkedIn Whitepaper: Unlocking Procurement's Opportunity in Complex Spend Categories

Ben Lambert started cooking meat over fire at an early age, hunting and cooking animals with his dad. After a varied career that included everything from working as a tattoo artist to a slaughterhouse job to being a meat cutter at an old school joint, Ben eventually made his way to Austin where he’d meet his wife Sarah. It was in Austin that his professional cooking career began to take shape. Ben worked at a well regarded place for its time, Blue Ox BBQ, and when a job opened up at Franklin Barbecue, he made the leap over there. For the next five years Ben honed his craft in the Franklin pit room with dreams of eventually opening his own place. In mid-2019 the time had finally come for the Lamberts to launch their own business, JNL Barbecue. JNL is now serving at Buzz Mill in East Austin in their new service trailer with the meats smoked on a thousand gallon Mill Scale pit. Open weekends for now, Ben and Sarah are expanding their menu and hours as they get their operations streamlined. Armed with an undeniable dedication to the craft and a wealth of cooking knowledge, expect big things from JNL Barbecue.
