Our 3rd official, and technically 4th, tasting episode! We know its summer but we did lagers on the last block so we went for dark beers. We got our hands on the Black Butte Porter from Deschutes Brewing Co. for obvious reasons and two different versions of Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewing and Culminating Mass from Breakside Brewing. It's a Portland heavy tasting but there's a lot going on in the PDX right now and we for sure talk about that too. Cheers and Enjoy!
We have a special show for you today as we sit down to visit with Breakside founder Scott Lawrence and his brewmaster Ben Edmunds to celebrate the brewery's 10th anniversary. Jeff talks with Scott and Ben about those ten years, how Breakside, born in a different era, has grown and changed, and what is in store for them as their big celebration has been interrupted by world events.
Most people enjoy a flavored beer, though there are those that won't go near one. Learn why you should, how they are flavored, and how brewers decide and experiment to come up with all those amazing flavors - from sweet to savory and everything in between. Cheers! In Show 104, we have a special guest in the studio to talk about the Oregon Beer Awards, which recently announced winners for the 2020 competition. He his Ben Edmunds, the competition director of the event and brew master at Breakside Brewing. We will talk to Ben about why this festival is different, why he and the organizers of the OBA reworked style categories, and also what constitutes excellence when comparing beers.
Ok Crew welcome to EP32 of the show! This one's a heck of a ride as we listen to one of Tristan's favourite recent albums and watch one of Mick's all time favourite films. The two discuss the pop media god that is Keanu Reeves, struggle with beer related segues, talk about the recent Chromatics show, and probably some more stuff. Tristan crashes and burns worse than usual with the three questions segment, but at least there is some darn good beer. We try the Yellow Dog Squirrel Chaser pale ale, and the Breakside pilsner. Our album pick is the unrelenting sugar high of an album, II by Vancouver's very own The Courtneys. For movie time with Tristan and Mick we watch the divisive 1997 film Contact. As Mick dives into its cerebral and dramatic contrasts, Tristan just gets livid about the religious content in the film, so good times for all. New and noteworthy from Shura, Ginger Root, GoldLink, and Faye Webster. You can listen to the show on iTunes or Spotify. Please subscribe and rate us while you're at it. You can also find all the tracks we discuss on our EP 32 Apple Music playlist. Just search 'beats on repeat'. Follow us here for more content from the show if you like what you hear. Thanks friends!
We talk events, Beer News, and Breakside Brewing with special guest Cam Armstrong.

In this episode we check out a beer from legendary Oregan Craft Brewey Breakside. We try their Lunch Break Session IPA and try to figure out ff that's the same thing as a straight up ISA- results are inconclusive! Our album pick is the goth pop punk rollercoaster of an album Lose All Time by Abbotsford's very own You Say Party! We Say Die! For movie time we pick Jonathan Glazer's directorial debut, Sexy Beast, with a seminal and shocking performance by Ben Kingsley. For new and noteworthy we listen to tracks by Toro Y Moi, Empress Of, Chasity Belt, and Still Corners. Mick turns the whole operation into a Phil Collins fan club briefly and Tristan melts his brain a touch trying to figure the best Simpsons Character (Poochie?). Typical day at the office, really. All of of the tracks we feature are on our EP17 Apple Music Playlist. Subscribe and rate us on iTunes and we'll say nice things about you forever.
