We all have a purpose, but have we found it, yet? Do we even know how to find it? In another of our Share the Chair series of episodes, CH sits down with namesake friend, mentor, and former boss, Courtney Andriunas, to talk about the pursuit of one's true calling. Courtney shares how her long-standing love of Boston, Massachusetts and a bucket list desire to take a class at Harvard lead her to a transformative workshop during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Listen in as she discusses what it means to truly find one's individual sense of purpose, what inspiring and authentic leadership looks like in the workplace (hint: it should NOT be that different from how we are in our personal lives), and how her passion for creating a supportive and encouraging space for others remains one of her key tenets. This episode has you covered with wisdom and uplifting energy from not one but two Courtneys. Show Notes Courtney's LinkedIn profile is here for those interested in learning more about her or connecting to talk further about the workshop (note: you will need a LinkedIn account to see her full profile and be able to follow her). The workshop was through the Harvard Extension School. More information on the discussion CH and Courtney were having regarding different leadership styles as defined by distinct colors (e.g., Red, Yellow, Blue, Green) can be found on a number of Web sites and through various organizations. You can try a Google search of "What are the 4 leadership colors" if you'd like to learn more. James Lipton's Inside the Actor's Studio questionnaire, and the original Bernard Pivot/Marcel Proust versions that inspired it, can be found here. Our C17 version is our own take on these two famous questionnaires.

As someone who grew up in faith-based schooling with restrictive norms and shame-based practices, the word "pleasure" has long given me the heebie jeebies. Until very recently, I couldn't even imagine, let alone EMBRACE, a world or belief system where pleasure and autonomy are embraced rather than shamed. Yet, here we are, about to share a conversation with Courtney Boyer that could be the very key to unlock a life filled with more vibrancy and authenticity for so many. THIS is an important conversation – probably one of the most important conversations we can be having.Courtney Boyer, a renowned relationship and sexuality expert, joins us to unravel the layers of societal expectations that often snuff out joy and self-acceptance at every level of our lives. And when we get to the bottom of it, much of our challenges with love and joy and acceptance and abundance - it's all wrapped up in our shame around our own desires and experience of pleasure.Courtneys wisdom will – at the very least – spark curiosity in you around the complexities of female pleasure and its profound implications it has on your personal sense of freedom and empowerment. This episode sheds light on the surprising connection between embracing our desires and stepping into a world where life is lived in full color. We confront the misinformation surrounding female sexuality and celebrate the potential for a society informed by pleasure, rather than restrained by outdated taboos. Pleasure is not just about the act of sex; it's about claiming our rightful place in a narrative that has long been dictated by others, and in doing so, finding our truest selves.MEET COURTNEY BOYERCourtney Boyer is a relationship and sexuality expert and author of Not Tonight, Honey: Why women actually don't want sex and what we can do about it. With the ever-increasing inconsistencies of summer weather impacting on dryland dairying, forage crops deliver a valuable bulk of high-quality summer and early autumn feed. In our latest dairying-themed podcast, host Charlotte Westwood is joined by Waikato dairy farming couple, Mark and Courtney Harris - to learn of their investigations into the fit of different summer forage crops for their dairy business. Farming across two properties in the northern and southern reaches of the Waikato, summer crops form an important feature of Mark and Courtneys dairy systems. Chicory and summer brassicas are cost effective feeds for their herds, helping to to offset the absence of sufficient quantities of high quality pasture that would otherwise compromise summer milksolids production. Mark and Courtney discuss how four years of on-farm work that has compared cow responses to either chicory or summer brassicas has taught them much about the fit of summer crops within their dairy business. Which is better as a summer forage crop for cows? Chicory or brassicas? Which crop type should we plant? Tune in, Mark and Courtneys findings might surprise you.

Last week, we aired an interview with Jeremy Courtney, who along with his wife Jessica, founded the charitable organization Preemptive Love. We had a lot to say about the controversy surrounding the Courtney's dismissal from the charity that they had spent well over a decade building, but we thought it best to let people hear from Jeremy, first. This week, we got together with Jeremiah to discuss the accusations made against them, the tone and inflection of the articles written by two former employees, the preemptive critiques of Humanite (a new project that has only just launched and is already under assault), and final thoughts on what this mess says about the people involved, both directly and indirectly. This conversation might ruffle some feathers, but it needs to be had. The callous, enthusiastic way in which we discard imperfect people who have done so much good is infuriating. The Courtneys aren't perfect, but they've been in the field helping save lives and build communities for a long time. We think they deserved better than they got. Here are the articles we discuss: “Preemptive Love: What Happens When a Charity Runs More Like a Cult” by Ben Irwin “Jeremy and Jessica Courtney's misconduct at Preemptive Love, documented” by Ben Irwin “A Donor's Guide to Preemptive Love's Financial Statements” by Ben Irwin “What you should know about Humanite, Jeremy and Jessica Courtney's new organization” by Ben Irwin “An Open Letter to Preemptive Love” by Courtney Christenson The Board of Directors' Statements & Timeline of Events

This week, we got the opportunity to sit down with humanitarian and author, Jeremy Courtney, who comes to you from his home in northern Iraq! In 2008, Jeremy and his wife Jessica founded an incredible organization called Preemptive Love, who's mission includes providing aid in the form of food, shelter, and medical care to people caught in the midst of global conflict, as well as launching local businesses in war-torn parts of the world to bring jobs, revenue, and stability back to their communities. For over a decade, Jeremy and Jessica worked side-by-side with local partners all over the Middle East, and Preemptive Love grew to become the large, impactful organization that it is today. In late 2021, several former employees voiced complaints and concerns about the Courtney's leadership. The organization willingly subjected themselves to a third-party investigation by Guidepost Solutions hoping to better understand the problems and how to address them. However, a couple of ex-employees went public with their grievances. Shortly thereafter, the board of directors published a statement saying that Jeremy and Jessica Courtney would not be returning to Preemptive Love. After months of radio silence, the Courtneys announced that they were partnering with many of their longtime friends and fellow humanitarians to form a new organization called Humanite Peace Collective. That's obviously the abridged version of the story, but hopefully it gives some context… This is the first time Jeremy has spoken publicly since leaving Preemptive Love, and we were as anxious as anyone to hear his thoughts on what happened. Whether or not you followed the Courtneys or Preemptive Love over the years, I think you'll find Jeremy's story fascinating. We encourage you to check out Humanite at www.humanite.org, and if you'd like to join the conversation, you'll find a link to the official Growing Up Christian Discord server in our Instagram bio, @growingupchristianpodcast!
After working in a high powered, incredibly busy job Courtney noticed she had developed vertigo and was struggling to walk in a straight line. After her diagnosis Courtney focused on simplifying and being less stressed, one habit at s time. The thread of simple and stress free are strong throughout Courtneys life. We talk about the line in the sand, the before and after that comes from a chronic illness diagnosis and how it often feels self indulgent to really take time to care for ourselves with out a life changing diagnosis. Courtney's beautiful book, Soulful Simplicity inspired me to create more physical space in my home to create more emotional and mental space. There's so many great tidbits throughout this interview, I really hope you find something to take from this episode. Find Courtney on Instagram Find Courtney's work here Find Courtney's podcast here
