The 2015 remake of Point Break is all style and no substance. It's an extreme sports highlight video that flourishes when the stunts are on display, but fizzles whenever the cast has to act. Ultimately, there is just too much going on, and as we bound from place to place and stunt to stunt, very little in the way of plot or character depth is ever established. Sure, having the radical Robin Hoods branch out into several extreme sports seems cool on the surface, but there has to be more to the film than insane feats across beautiful locales. Hence why this Point Break couldn't muster the same following as its predecessor. It's empty calories. The stakes feel shallow when we don't care about any of the people engaging in the death-defying pageantry. The lesser Bodhi's empty philosophizing doesn't help either. Now, sit back, get gnarly with a Antihero IPA from Revolution Brewing, and follow your line! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake aren't living off the grid! What makes a cider a cider? Explore the fruits and chaos-inspired ingredients behind ERIS' biggest hits in this cider science deep dive. Michelle Foik, co-owner of ERIS Brewery and Cider House, shares her journey to opening her historic establishment before delving into the art and science of cidering. She starts by discussing how her career took her from Goose Island Brewery and Revolution Brewing to opening the first female-owned brewery and cider house in Illinois in a historic Masonic temple. She also discusses the history of cider in Chicago and in the United States, the cultural revival of cider post-Prohibition, and how cider is actually made. After the beer break, Michelle delves into how Amburana barrels impart a variety of spice flavors into beverages, why beer brewers aren't allowed to make cider, and how ERIS combines ciders and beers to make unique snakebites. She also shares the incredible story behind their GABF award-winning hazy IPA Foiken Haze, the unique characteristics of their Pepper Jam cider, and their barrel-aged Malort cider.  ERIS Brewery and Cider House is a women-owned brewery, cider house, and restaurant in the Old Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago. Highland Brewing owner and CEO Leah Wong Ashburn provides an update on how Asheville, one of the country's great craft beer cities, is recovering in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.    Last weekend, Highland brewed its first beer since the hurricane cut a path of destruction through Western North Carolina. Ashburn shares the steps the brewery took to return to operations, starting with ensuring that all of its team members were accounted for and had their basic needs covered, and then stabilizing the business. She also explains the importance of people visiting Asheville now, after the biggest month of business was wiped off the calendar.   Ashburn also discusses Highland's first post-hurricane milestone, the release of Cold Mountain winter ale November 7-11.    Plus, Jess and Justin touch on several headlines, including a craft brewery deal in Iowa, the vibes at the Massachusetts Craft Brewers Guild's annual meeting, a leadership change at the American Cider Association and the pending closure of Revolution Brewing's Logan Square brewpub after 15 years.

He comes to the studio to tell us how to get a leg up on securing a pizza, dives into the genesis of his pizza-making nonprofit, tells us all about a recent tavern pizza odyssey across Chicago, and so much more. He's also got a new book: The church cookbook-inspired Super Pizza World, a treasure trove of some of his most iconic pies, bound with a spiral so you can keep it open while you play chef (why isn't this the standard for cookbooks?)

Katherine challenges the idea that top fermenting and bottom fermenting yeasts function in the same way. Learn what yeasts actually do and the role they play in the fermentation process. 09:03 Revolution Brewing Interview: David Blackford, Lead Brewer at Revolution Brewing, explains the difference between a head brewer and a lead brewer, reminisces about his first impressions of Revolution Brewing and the first beer he ever got to work on, and discusses the development of signature beers like Eugene Porter and Anti-Hero, his journey from a packaging specialist to lead brewer, and what it was like for the brewery to transition from a small brewery to a large-scale operation, including the use of new technology like centrifuges to increase production capacity. Then, David talks about Revolution's latest favorite, the Cold Time Lager, and explores the growing trend of lighter, less complicated beers making a comeback, emphasizing the appreciation for quality brewing with fewer ingredients. David and Katherine discuss the difficulty (and fun!) of naming beers before Cody jumps in with questions about Revolution's Deep Wood Series of barrel-aged beers, including what inspired Revolution to release such high ABV beers year-round. The discussion also touches on memorable yet discontinued brews, such as the Bottom Up Wit, discussing its unique qualities and why it's no longer a staple despite its popularity. David also clarifies the differences between Wit wheat beers and Hefeweizens, focusing on yeast's role in defining their distinct flavors.  53:56 Beer Behavior: What's up with hop waters? Cook County homeowners just finished paying property taxes for last year, but some may be paying more than their fair share. That's because the county assessor's office has misclassified hundreds of properties, missing out on at least $444 million in value and unfairly shifting the tax burden, according to a new investigation by the Chicago Tribune and Illinois Answers project. Reporters A.D. Quig and Alex Nitkin explain how luxury homes end up getting taxed like vacant lots, what this means for individual tax bills, and why this matters for government financing.
