I do believe that the universe has its own timing. And sometimes L n P is just you working out in your spirit or mind a situation. No this isn't spiritual talk, not my cup of tea. Brief History of Bitcoin Bitcoin came about from a whitepaper released in 2008: Bitcoin, A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. It was just nine pages and outlined a process for passing digital funds from one user to another using blockchain encryption to protect the system from the creation of 'extra' money. The first Bitcoin mined in January 2009, and the first transaction was conducted soon after when the founders exchanged some funds directly. Later that year the New Liberty Standard established the value of Bitcoin at 1309.03 bitcoins for 1 dollar. The first real-world transaction followed in May 2010, when a Florida programmer sent 10,000BTC to a volunteer in England, who then spent about $25 to order him a pizza from Papa John’s. Today that pizza is valued at almost 2 million pounds and the transaction regarded as a significant milestone in Bitcoin history. By 2015 things had settled down and Bitcoin had finally achieved mainstream acceptance. That was confirmed when the New York Stock Exchange made a substantial investment in the Coinbase IPO. By 2016 it was estimated that worldwide over 180,000 businesses were accepting Bitcoin payments and over Bitcoin 770 ATMs were available. And in March 2017, the price of a Bitcoin crossed the cost of an ounce of gold for the first time.   How Bitcoin Works  Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer system for making online payments using a digital currency. The idea of a digital currency had been around for some time, but it wasn't until the problem of 'double spending' addressed that it became a reality. Since anything digital can be copied over and over again, the challenge was creating a digital payment system that makes sure that nobody spends the same money more than once. Offline it's handled by the fact paper money is physically transferred from buyer to seller. Online it's been handled by a central authority... i.e. a bank... recording and verifying all transactions... removing the payment from the buyer's account and adding it to the seller's account. What makes Bitcoin unique, is that it uses a massive peer-to-peer network to verify every single transaction. When you send a Bitcoin to another person, they don't get to use it until 'the network' confirms it is valid. Once verified though, your payments are non-reversible, your accounts cannot be frozen, and transaction fees are much lower... especially on significant transactions. For 8 glorious days, Maggie and I will be down in Aruba on the 22th to 30th of October for our third trip of the year. As it is the third trip, we have to adhere to a stricter budget this time around while not skimping on the fun. The three most important factors to keep in mind when traveling to Aruba are airfare, accommodations, and spending money. For airfare, where you leave and where you choose to fly can have a huge impact on your flight. We like to find flights on CheapAir.com then follow it up with checking on the actual airline websites afterwards. It works well for us and gives us the best bang for our buck. As for accommodations, there are plenty of choices: hotels, condos, all-inclusives, and timeshares. We personally love going for a rental because it fits our needs perfectly. Plus we really just need a place to rest and sleep that is comfortable, clean, has a convenient location, and gives us privacy so a rental home is our go-to. Lastly, for spending money, people like to do a lot of various things. Some like to go to excursions while others prefer to just simply hop around the island to explore on their own. We're more of the latter but we want to change things around for this trip so we're planning to go to some excursions especially since we're taking Maggie's daughter along. We wish for her trip to be as fun and memorable as possible. One of the excursions we're eyeing is Aruba Outdoor Adventures, which involves pedal kayaking. Another one is Full Throttle Tours, where they'll take you on a speed boat to a lot of different areas and snorkel. As usual, we will be staying on the Palm Beach area which is a great launching pad for our adventures and is also an ideal location to get to anywhere in the island. This upcoming trip will be a little different compared to our trips. We intend to a experience a lot of new restaurants. Kitchen Appliances:  According to Money Crashers, September and October because that’s when new models come out.  Last year’s version will be reduced.  This point will be a recurring theme in the episode.  And it’s not like from year to year there are great innovations in refrigerators.  Getting last year’s model doesn’t mean you won’t have the new fridge that makes you toast or anything.  You aren’t missing much but overpaying. Automobiles:  From Auto Trader, the end of each year  and the end of every day.  Sales people are hustling to get that last sale in before the numbers come out so they’re more flexible.  Also late summer/early fall when the new models come out. Computers:  PC World suggests buying around the holidays and back to school time. Gaming Systems:  Since everyone wants these as holiday presents, lifehacker suggests January.  Your disappointed kid will hate you but you have more to add to his college fund! Airline Tickets:  There are a lot of theories about this, buy on Tuesdays, buy last minute, but CheapAir ran the numbers and found that buying fifty four days before the trip is optimal.  They monitored four million trips to cull this data! Concert or Event Tickets:  Thanks to lifehacker again, see movies during the day, for things like concerts or sporting events, the closer to the date the better to go on Craigslist to find people who really need to unload them. Televisions:  From Popular Mechanics, the usual suspects, holidays, January, but interestingly, March.  Know why?  Andrew and Matt hate sports but I’m a fan so  March Madness Baby!   July also because sales are typically slow. Furniture:  According to Go Simple Finance,  January and July.  New furniture is released in February and August.  No one knew that but LMM found out for you! Engagement Ring:  US News tells us when not to buy, between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day.  Unlike most of our other examples, rings are not cheaper when everyone is buying them. Gas:  According to Time Magazine, Wednesday morning.  Station owners price check each other between 8-10 am.  If competitors are increasing prices, owners will raise their own between 10-12.  Weird, but that’s Time’s take on it. House:  From Realtor.com, for more choices, April-July because that’s when a lot of homes are being listed.  If you want the lowest price, between Thanksgiving and the New Year.  No one wants to move in the winter so that makes sense.
