In the third podcast in the Chatting with Casey Children's Mental Health Week Special, we chat with Patti Rantala from Thunder Bay who helps remind us that Ontario's more than just the Greater Toronto Area. Things can be very different in the north, and we need to understand where everyone's coming from if we want to find a solution. Make sure to visit my Children's Mental Health Week page for more great content!
For the second podcast in the Chatting with Casey Children's Mental Health Week Special, I'm chatting with Irwin Elman—the former Ontario Child Advocate—about the state of children's mental health services in our province, what he learned in more than a decade of service in the role, and the things we can do to build a future that our children can feel safe in. Courtesy of Children's Mental Health Ontario, it's episode two—Let's Not Take Mental Health for Granted! Make sure to visit my Children's Mental Health Week page for more great content!
It's Children's Mental Health Week, and I've partnered with Children's Mental Health Ontario to bring some additional exposure to some very real stories about children and the struggles they've endured in a world that's only growing more complicated. To kick the week off, I chatted with Kimberly Moran, Chief Executive Officer of Children's Mental Health Ontario about what CMHO does, why Children's Mental Health Week is important, and what we can all do to be part of the solution. Come give it a listen!

Rugger Burke The Power of 10, Rugger Burke (wisdom, inspirational, nonfiction, adult) The Power of 10 is a practice for engaging the voice of wisdom through inquiry and advocacy. Inquiry raises our awareness of what is through inviting us to examine our current state of being; advocacy prompts us to live into what is possible. Together, inquiry and advocacy evoke the voice of wisdom–the quiet, still voice inside us, the confluence of knowledge, experience, and insight flowing through all living beings that speaks through our bodies, hearts, and minds. As we learn to listen to it closely, the voice of wisdom reveals our true nature and purpose, calls on us to commit to something greater, and guides us toward being our best selves in every thought, word, and action. At its heart, The Power of 10 sensitizes us to our own, unique purpose, and helps us discover that spark of the divine at the core of our being. Put simply, it is a practice for engaging your voice of wisdom to become the greatest you–the you who is meant to be. We chatted with Rugger about how the book is structured to enable you to make progress each day, so that you are not overwhelmed, but that you see gradual progress, all the time! We also chatted about being deliberate vs. cautious, and how Rugger himself did not start down this path of intentional living until some life crises caused him to reevaluate where he was headed. To find out more about Rugger, please visit: The Power of 10 on Amazon We also have our weekly chat with Ellen Campbell from the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness, this week talking about their upcoming workshop men that wish to move past being physically and sexually abused, and Ellen shares a bit more about her story. https://soundcloud.com/rtds/sets/matters-of-the-mind Hear Rugger Burke and Ellen Campbell on “Matters Of The Mind” with Dr. Peter Sacco at 8p EST on Wednesday by clicking the Listen Live button at the top right of the page, but if you miss it, it will be on demand Thursday, right here, or find us on iTunes podcast at https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/rtds-listen-up-talk/id910538503?mt=2 Rugger Burke at Tedx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6zqyV1wX0s #mentalhealth, #depression, #endstigma, #BellLetsTalk, #mentalillness, #mhcanada, #nokiddingmetoo, #nkm2, #addiction, #recovery, #ADD, #autism, #ASD, #kidsmentalhealth, #CCAA, #CMHO, #HubertCrouch, #EllenCampbell, #sexualabuse, #suicide, #bipolar, #schizophrenia, #ADHD, #MattersOfTheMind, #MentalHealthMatters, #author, #books, #religious, #fanaticism, #sharia, #law, #immigration, #libertyslostyear, #JeffLiberty, #RuggerBurke, #ThePowerOf10, #Amazon

What an incredible interview today! Getting to chat with radio host, publicist and promoter, TV host and self proclaimed "if you need something sold, I can sell it!" salesman Jeff Liberty, was a true honour today. I won't type too much here, but Jeff has experienced some horrific things in his life that lead to a year long battle with depression, including losing his house, his kids into care, being placed on suicide watch, drinking to numb the pain, and more. We delved into his incredible journey to healing and as he says he's in 'remission' from depression, and like any other illness, always aware of his triggers, always protective of his mental health. He also takes care of his body and soul, while also practicing gratitude - just being thankful for the small things in life, like the beautiful blue sky he noticed today while on our show, and celebrating his daughter's graduation this week. It's the small stuff that counts... #libertyslostyear Jeff reaches out continuously to share his story with schools in New Brunswick and has shared the stage with Clara Hughes, another shining Canadian star in the battle to remove the stigma of mental dis-ease. To find out more about Jeff, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Libertyslostyear/1386442901676912?fref=ts We also have our weekly chat with Ellen Campbell from the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness, this week talking about 'Safe Haven', an initiative in the US to ensure that mothers that don't want their babies can drop them off safely at a hospital OR have an ambulance pick them them as "Jane Doe" and take them to hospital to deliver the babies with NO criminal charges. Ellen believes we need this here and it is legal in Canada to do this, but the policies need to be put in place in Ontario to communicate this to EMS, hospitals and law enforcement. Lovers of legal thrillers will rejoice in this gripping, timely page-turner about religious fanaticism, freedom of speech, courtroom intrigue, and high-stakes mystery. Ezekiel Shaw and his fanatical followers preach a gospel of hate, picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers, and praising God for sending America’s soldiers back in body bags. But when they disrupt the funeral of Second Lieutenant Lauren Hanson, a West Point graduate killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, hard-charging Fort Worth trial attorney Jace Forman becomes determined to put an end to their crazed crusade no matter the cost. As Jace and reporter Leah Rosen battle the odds and the clock in pursuit of justice and truth in the courts, they draw closer to uncovering a shocking conspiracy—and facing sinister forces that will stop at nothing to keep them from revealing the truth. “Religious extremism is a very dangerous and powerful force,” said Crouch. “It threatens our First Amendment rights and has been used to suppress women’s rights throughout the world (including our own country).” Blending fast-paced action with authentic courtroom drama, The Word will keep readers enthralled from its explosive prologue to nail-biting conclusion. And we chat with author Hubert Crouch about his book The Word, as well as the many themes in this book! To find out more about Hubert, please visit: http://www.hubertcrouch.com/ To purchase the book, head to Barnes and Noble in the US, Chapters.ca in Canada, or online at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Word-Hubert-Crouch/dp/0692369007 Hear Hubert Crouch on "Matters Of The Mind" with Dr. Peter Sacco at 8p EST on Wednesday by clicking the Listen Live button at the top right of the page, but if you miss it, it will be on demand Thursday, right here, or find us on iTunes podcast at https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/rtds-listen-up-talk/id910538503?mt=2 https://soundcloud.com/rtds/sets/matters-of-the-mind #mentalhealth, #depression, #endstigma, #BellLetsTalk, #mentalillness, #mhcanada, #nokiddingmetoo, #nkm2, #addiction, #recovery, #ADD, #autism, #ASD, #kidsmentalhealth, #CCAA, #CMHO, #HubertCrouch, #EllenCampbell, #sexualabuse, #suicide, #bipolar, #schizophrenia, #ADHD, #MattersOfTheMind, #MentalHealthMatters, #author, #books, #religious, #fanaticism, #sharia, #law, #immigration
Children’s mental health services in Canada, and especially in Ontario, are in crisis. Autism, addiction, depression, anxiety, suicide rates are climbing. Kimberly joins Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller tonight at 8p ET to share her story, and the story of the CMHO. As an advocate, the CMHO speaks collectively for hundreds of agencies across the province, by strengthening the financial and operating capacity of Children’s Mental Health Ontario’s member agencies; Build awareness and understanding of child and youth mental health among Ontario’s general public, government and allied professionals; Improve services and outcomes for children and youth with mental health problems; Develop the financial and organizational capacity necessary to ensure the achievement of Children’s Mental Health Ontario’s strategic plan. Kimberly as President and CEO steers the ship, providing first hand experience of navigating the waters of the mental health system in Ontario.
