An Invitation to Meet Your Inner Child

Self Reflection Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 16, 2025 1:36

Send us a textIn this special solo episode, host Lira Ndifon extends a warm and crucial invitation to begin one of the most important journeys of your life: reconnecting with your inner child. She explains that everyone has an inner child—not as a "childlike personality," but as the part of the subconscious mind that holds our earliest memories, beliefs, and emotions, both good and bad. This part of you has been absorbing messages long before you could fully process them, shaping the person you are today. Becoming aware of your inner child is the key to building resilience and living a more joyful, creative, and fulfilling life.Lira discusses the consequences of neglecting this fundamental part of ourselves. When the inner child is rejected or its wounds go unaddressed, that pain resurfaces in adulthood, often showing up as anger, insecurity, fear of abandonment, perfectionism, or people-pleasing behaviors. However, she emphasizes that it is never too late to start the healing process. This episode serves as a powerful reminder that acknowledging your past is essential for reclaiming your future. To guide you on this path, Lira officially announces her upcoming Inner Child Healing Workshop on August 23rd. She describes the workshop as a dedicated safe space designed to help you dive into your emotions, reconnect with yourself, and allow your inner child to finally flourish. If you are ready to heal, move forward with more confidence, and meet the younger version of yourself with compassion, this is your invitation to begin.Support the showCall to Action: Engage with the Self-Reflection Podcast community! Have you ever felt almost afraid to set a boundary—especially with someone you love? You're not alone. In this episode, I share the story of a client who jokingly called it “boundary phobia” and how that phrase perfectly captures the fear and discomfort so many of us feel when we try to protect our time, energy, or emotional well-being. We'll talk about: The fears that keep us saying “yes” when we want to say “no” The myths we've been taught about boundaries and relationships Why boundaries are about action as much as they are about words How to set healthy boundaries with yourself first—and why that's the key to holding them with others A short guided reflection to help you identify one internal boundary you can start practicing today If you've been feeling drained, resentful, or guilty about saying no, this episode will help you shift the way you think about boundaries so they feel less like walls and more like doors you control.   References from this episode: Parents Magazine study on accepting unwanted invitations: https://www.parents.com/why-saying-no-is-good-for-your-mental-health-8415963 Stanford Student Affairs research on boundaries strengthening relationships: https://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/how-life-treeting-you-importance-of-boundaries 2020 study on relational boundaries and enforcement: https://self-compassion.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Luchner-and-Snyder-2020-The-Importance-of-Flexible-Relational-Boundaries-.pdf Mental Health Center on boundaries and burnout: https://www.mentalhealthctr.com/boundaries-and-mental-health Dr. Kristin Neff's self-compassion research: https://self-compassion.org/the-three-elements-of-self-compassion-2   Resources Mentioned: Better Than Before Breast Cancer Life Coaching Membership: https://www.thebreastcancerrecoverycoach.com/lifecoaching Creating a Life You Love in 168 Hours a Week: https://www.thebreastcancerrecoverycoach.com/168-hours-sp   Let's Connect! A Meditation: The In Between

As we move through August, I want to talk about what I am calling "The In Between." The in between of pain/trauma/struggles and healing and truly moving through it all to get to the place of living the life you want. It is tricky because you are so used to our pain/trauma/struggles that you may not really know who you are without it.  Who are you without high levels of anxiety? Who are you without thinking about how you have been wronged? Who are you without the rumination and worry of your pain? The worry and rumination keep you tethered to your pain. Learning to move through it all takes time and practice. If you find yourself clinging to your pain, don't worry, it is actually a good sign if you can see that you do that.  As you reflect on your own journey, tune into this meditation and let your body relax and connect with your higher self. You have to slow down the noise of life to see if you are stuck in your old ways. They are familiar to you, so it makes sense that you cling. Even uncomfortable feels comfortable sometimes. It can feel very scary to set down this piece of you, the old you, the one that was so in her pain that she could see no way out, to the you that can see a way out, but your identity and stories and way of being, keep you locked into the only way of being you know. This in between is such a scary place to be. However, if you lean into trusting yourself, a whole new world will open up for you. Are you wiling to build your "trusting yourself" muscle? This is the place where all the magic happens.

Checking in after 2 years since I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer to share that recovery from the trauma of a diagnosis is possible.  In the last episode I talked about inner strength that I use in managing my mindset as a survivor. The outlook of knowing I will be ok and controlling the things I am allowed to control does not restrict me from looking back at my recovery. This podcast is about sharing my story and advocating. The milestones of recovery from what makes up a diagnosis are important to reflect on, in my opinion.  Since it is summer, I am going to my pool fairly often right now. I love how the water feels on my body and swimming has always been a therapeutic activity for me. So of course I went to my pool as soon as I could after my surgery (2 years ago).  As I work to set goals in my life (also something I talked about in the last episode), I am planning more fun activities each week. Last week I met up at the pool with a few friends and neighbors. This pool time (alone or with friends) is what I call a “great escape”. It is not really an adventure but it takes me to such a different place the moment I enter the gates of the pool.   I crave these moments away from all that makes up my life. In the pool (at the pool), it is a time to move in the water and release physical and emotional tension as I swim (usually very leisurely) up and down the lanes. Last week, when I was with my friends, we sat and ate chips and dip (definitely therapeutic) before going to kick and talk in the water. We had a lot of space to ourselves and it was a completely relaxing block of time.  So as in last week's episode I talked about doing more than just going through the motions of each week in a month, year, etc., I share my experience of how this can be such a boost to keeping connected and having a positive outlook plus some fun during a day in my breast cancer life.  I cannot say for sure if I would have found it so important to block out fun and intentionally plan my life ahead (for fun and function) if I had not been diagnosed with breast cancer. I do know that because of my breast cancer experience, I am grasping on to opportunities to have fun and connect with others, while also taking care of me with great intention.   My recent episode about navigating the mindset in survivorship:  Episode 57 Inner Strength Unveiled: Navigating Mindset and Hope After Breast Cancer If you are interested in hearing my episode about the healing effects of swimming for me, listen here: Episode 48 Swimming for Self Love as a Breast Cancer Survivor Also, if you'd like to be the first to receive updates and exclusive content from the upcoming Breast Cancer Life newsletter, please email me at connect@breastcancerlife.org. On the Secret Witch Show today, Nicole is naming the sacred heartbreak of witnessing powerful women flirt with their magic - saying yes to their calling, but (innocently) not fully choosing the deep, raw soul work with the true devotion it requires. This episode is a truth-telling spell for the sensitive, gifted witches who keep circling their magic, dancing around it, waiting for the perfect moment - yet letting fear, doubt, and the trance of the mundane lead. In this episode, we explore how resistance shows up, the hidden fears that keep us from devotion, and why magic isn't something to add to your ‘to do' list - it's a way to live. Nicole shares what it really means to ‘choose' your life as a living ritual, and how self-trust is built in micro-moments of staying present with yourself - especially when it's hard. If you're done waiting and ready to finally become the remedy, you'll find the fire you need here. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Flirting with our witch is a form of fear - when we circle our magic without choosing it fully, we're protecting ourselves from the depth of transformation we say we want Resistance is the remedy; the moment we want to run is often the very doorway into our next initiation - if we can stay just one breath longer Readiness is an illusion - we think we need to feel ‘ready' to begin, but devotion is what actually builds the readiness we long for Self-trust is born in small, sacred daily choices - every moment we stay present with ourselves instead of avoiding our magic, we reclaim a lost part of our soul Magic isn't something to do - it's how we live. Real devotion isn't a ‘to-do' list; it's how we meet our life, with presence, honesty, and soul You are already the remedy - our work is not to ‘become magical', but to remember we always were - and to stop abandoning that truth.   Resources and things that we spoke about: Our Links: Enroll for our free Moonlit Apothecary Love Letters - www.nicolebarton.co.uk/moonlitapothecary  Join our Apothecary Membership: www.nicolebarton.co.uk/membership>  Social: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/nicoleamandabarton  Facebook Group - Secret Witch Sisterhood: www.facebook.com/groups/secretwitch  Instagram - @iamnicolebarton Instagram - @archetypalapothecary You Tube - https://www.youtube.com/@secretwitchsociety Tiktok - @archetypalapothecary Resources: Poem: Terrance McKenna - Nature Loves Courage Thank you for listening, we'd love to know what comes alive for you in this week's episode, so please let us know. This week, we are re-releasing one of Redesigning Life's most well-received and downloaded episodes... Holly Whitaker : Quit Like A WomenHave you ever wondered why we reach for a drink during life's highest moments and lowest lows? Why does alcohol seem essential to celebrating a wedding, mourning a loss, or simply getting through a Tuesday? In this illuminating conversation with Holly Whitaker, author of "Quit Like a Woman", we explore the complex relationship many of us have with alcohol and how it might be affecting more than we realize. Holly shares her personal journey from someone who used alcohol, cigarettes, and food to "ruin herself and clean herself up" repeatedly to discovering a path toward genuine fulfillment without substances. What makes this discussion particularly powerful is the science Holly brings to the table. She explains how alcohol hijacks our dopamine system, making it difficult to experience pleasure from everyday activities and creating a false association between drinking and fun. "Alcohol doesn't actually produce fun," Holly reveals. "Fun things produce fun." This insight challenges the cultural narrative that positions alcohol as the essential ingredient for enjoyment.Beyond the science, Holly offers practical wisdom for anyone questioning their relationship with alcohol. Rather than advocating for an all-or-nothing approach, she emphasizes the power of subtle shifts in awareness and intention. By simply allowing yourself to notice alcohol's effects on your mood, sleep, and anxiety levels, you begin creating space for change.Whether you're sober curious, actively changing your relationship with alcohol, or simply interested in understanding its effects better, this episode offers thoughtful perspectives without judgment. As Holly reminds us, when we release what no longer serves us... whether it's alcohol, toxic relationships, or limiting beliefs, we create space for something better to arrive. What might be waiting on the other side of that glass for you? Listen in and consider what consciousness over cocktails could bring to your life.Holly's Website: https://www.hollywhitaker.com/Holly's Podcast: Co-RegulationHolly's book: QUIT LIKE A WOMANHolly's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hollyConnect with Sabrina:https://www.instagram.com/Sabrina_Soto/www.SabrinaSoto.com
