In a recent humanitarian effort, Rotarians in Zambia, assisted by various organizations, accomplished the remarkable feat of delivering 8.5 tons of medical equipment and supplies to Machili, Zambia. The focus of this substantial aid was primarily on improving maternal and dental health care in the region. This initiative was particularly crucial given Zambia's high rates of dental issues and maternal mortality. The project, which was significantly funded through a global grant, cost around $350,000, although the initial budget was set at $49,000. One of the key organizations involved in this project was Project Cure, known for its commitment to providing medical supplies to needy areas. Their contribution and continuous efforts can be supported through online donations. Further details of the project were discussed by Rotarian Stephen Caine on Radio Rotary. He elaborated on the challenging journey of shipping the medical equipment to a refurbished health center in rural Zambia. The Bernhills-Baltimore Lake Rotary Club played a pivotal role in raising the necessary funds for this mission. Despite facing delays and the potential for scams, the equipment was successfully shipped in a 40-foot container from Savannah, Georgia, to Zambia. The project saw contributions from various individuals and organizations, including a notable donation of $5,000 from a 90-year-old man. Stephen Caine, a retired military officer and active Rotarian, was instrumental in coordinating the delivery of medical supplies to Zambia. The Rotary Club, which meets at Boston Spa Town Hall on Monday nights, continues to be a beacon of service and support in various community and international projects. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/radiorotary/support

"That was the beginning of me working with a homeless women's choir. As someone who grew up doing music my whole life, it was just part of my DNA. This broke open everything I had ever thought or experienced about music, and it gave me some really new opportunities and new ways to look at the power and purpose of singing. For the people I was working with, it was part of what would get them through a day or week, and that was really powerful." Amanda Weber currently serves as Director of Worship and the Arts at Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Minneapolis, where she oversees a wealth of arts programming. Her work explores the intersections of art, spirituality, and justice and their impact on community. With a deep love for teaching, Weber has served as adjunct professor for Concordia University St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She co-facilitated a Social Justice and Music January-term course at St. Olaf College and was a Vocal Instructor for theology students at Yale Divinity School. Weber also taught high school at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts in Hartford, CT.Weber is the Founder and Artistic Director of Voices of Hope, an organization that builds choral singing communities in correctional facilities in the state of Minnesota. Weber's doctoral dissertation, which focused on this work, was awarded the Julius Herford Dissertation Prize in 2018. She has presented on the topic of incarceration and choral singing at numerous conferences and was also invited to speak for a TEDx Minneapolis Salon in 2016.Weber's interest in using music as a tool for social justice grew through her work at Luther Place Memorial Church in Washington, DC, where she founded Bethany's Women of Praise, a choir for homeless women. Weber received a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota in 2018, a Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting at the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music in 2013, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Art at Luther College in 2008. "Delivering Hope" is a feature film documentary that tells the ultimate story of people coming together for something bigger than themselves. On November 16, 2019, eight days before his 50th birthday, ultra-runner Kevin Kline set out to become the first person in history to run the northernmost 300 miles of Alaska's dangerous Dalton Highway, in winter, to raise awareness for children battling pediatric cancer. When Kline's body shuts down after 200 miles, the crew is faced with a life-changing dilemma. A native Texan, Jordan Orsak began FilmPro Inc. in 2014 as a production company focusing on commercial and independent video projects in the Austin area (now including productions in Los Angeles, CA). Orsak's passion for story telling allowed him to expand his reach to include projects like short form movies, music videos, and the documentary "Delivering Hope." His additional involvement through Sunflower Production and Blissful Films allow him to continue to do projects in any form or genre. "365" was created while filming for the documentary “If the Ocean Could Talk” off the coast of North Carolina, the crew hoped to tell the story of one of the most endangered species on the planet, but were launched into an unexpected journey of something hidden from the world. As the Director of Science, Research and Academic Partnerships for Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. as well as the Executive Director, Bonnie Monteleone is a researcher who has collected plastic marine samples globally including four of the five main ocean gyres, the Caribbean, and has extended this work to Pyramid Lake, outside of Reno, Nevada.

Merry Christmas! Hope came quietly on the night before Christmas. Well, quietly compared to the way rescues usually sound. No one close to Jesus' entry would've ever guessed that the ultimate Saviour and Hero—had come for good—would change everything for good--even though He started small. As in, about 6 pounds, wet, wrinkled, vulnerable and helpless. The Night before Christmas ended when Jesus showed up in the morning light! He delivered what He'd always promised: HOPE.

For the last nine Mother's day Pamela MacPhee has been celebrating a unique gift she has given to her cousin. DELiVERiNG HOPE is an intimate memoir of Pamela's challenging, but fulfilling journey carrying a baby for a cousin devastated by infertility. What kind of a woman chooses to become a surrogate? What is she thinking when she's pregnant with someone else's child? How does she feel when she delivers the baby into the waiting arms of the parents? "It was truly amazing to share such an intimate journey with another couple, and I feel grateful for the privilege of being entrusted with my cousin's dreams and the opportunity to give them the gift of a family. Giving is what makes life meaningful." - Pamela MacPhee. Pamela and I will be having a candid conversation about her experience as a surrogate mom as we look back and celebrate her personal journey of “unconditional motherly love”. Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday May 18th from 10-11am CST US to join Pamela and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.
