Genesis 37-50 // Jonathan NeefThis sermon explores the life of Joseph, spanning from his colorful coat in Canaan to his seat of power in Egypt. We follow the narrative of Genesis 37-50, examining how Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and falsely imprisoned. Despite these hardships, the story reveals how God's hidden hand was at work, positioning Joseph to save entire nations from famine. We focus on the climax of the story—the emotional reunion and reconciliation of the family—and the profound truth that what man intends for evil, God intends for good.SERMON NOTES (YouVersion): https://bible.com/events/49562826 PRAYER REQUESTS: https://ccefc.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/2542/responses/new26.02.15

We are talking about Coats of Many Colors and we become a great Dolly Parton podcast when we talk about her 1971 breakout hit. We learn more about Aaron, talk about driving across parking lots, and getting turnt up for Halloween. Then we have a serious conversation about reflecting on the tone we use when someone makes us dinner and we harass them. Then we hit the best songs inspired by the good book and what would happen if Rob hung with Armwreslters at Truck stops.
Al and Zach kick things off by playfully debating the biggest Robertson “tattletale,” with Jase catching most of the friendly fire. Christian Huff admits he's not a fighter, and John Luke says he might be able to take his younger, much bigger brother, Will. The guys trace Joseph's story, from the colorful coat that annoyed his eleven brothers to the Egypt years. John Luke reflects on Joseph's naïveté throughout his journey, from being sold into slavery as revenge to becoming one of the most powerful men in Egypt. Zach illustrates how a family feud becomes a family rescue and how this line ultimately sets the stage for Jesus, the Lion of Judah. This week we conclude the sermon series titled, “Back to Sunday School.” Over these past four-weeks we have looked back at key bible stories that get covered in Sunday school but that not everyone may know the full story. Join us as we look at the creation story, Noah's ark, the story of Abraham, and Joseph and his coat of many colors. Tune in as Pastor Emily Edwards wraps up this series with the message, “Joseph and The Coat of Many Colors.” Scripture: Genesis 37:1-11
This Episode analyses one of the most famous stories in the Bible
We humans have a hard time becoming invisible. For better or worse, we're basically stuck with the skin and body we have; we're pretty fixed in our color, our shape, our overall appearance. And so we're fascinated by creatures that aren't—creatures that morph to meet the moment, that can functionally disappear, that can shape-shift on a dime. And no creatures are more skilled, more astonishing, more bedazzling in their abilities to do this kind of thing than the cephalopods. But how do they do this exactly? What's going on in their skin? What's going on under their skin? And what's going on in their brains that makes this all possible? My guest today is Dr. Tessa Montague. Tessa is a neuroscientist in the Axel Lab at Columbia University; she studies the brain and behavior of the dwarf cuttlefish, with a special focus on the biology of their dynamic skin behaviors. Here, Tessa and I talk about how cuttlefish and other cephalopods exhibit the most impressive camouflaging abilities on the planet. We discuss how they change their skin's appearance with remarkable speed and fidelity—and not just when trying to blend in, but also when hunting, courting, fighting, and more. We talk about whether these behaviors are flexible and whether they're voluntary. We linger on the cruel irony that cuttlefish seem to be colorblind. We talk about the idea that a cephalopod's skin is kind of a window into their brain. We lay out the cells and organs in the cephalopod skin the make these behaviors possible—especially the tiny pigment-bearing structures called "chromatophores." And of course we also dive deep into the cephalopod brain and the its sometimes bizarre and poorly understood structures. Excited to share it with you friends—I think you'll enjoy it. Without further ado, here's my chat with Dr. Tessa Montague. A transcript of this episode will be posted soon. Notes and links 3:00 – For more on Dr. Montague's recent expeditions to the Philippines, including photos, see here. 7:30 – Dr. Montague has published two recent reviews of dynamic skin behaviors in cephalopods—see here and here. Explore how God's favor transforms lives through the story of Joseph and his COAT OF MANY COLORS and learn how favor can last a lifetime amidst opportunities and opposition.
Pastor Mark FullerWhen life seems like an endless maze, be a-maze-d by God.The Old Testament points to Jesus. Many believe that Joseph is an Old Testament type of Christ. He, too, was mistreated, falsely accused, and rejected, but he remained obedient and saved many lives. His dysfunctional family experience led him to several dead ends and detours.Genesis 39:2, 9, 21, 23 (NLT)- No matter how confusing or unfair his circumstances, Joseph always does the next right thing. - Joseph realized his dependence upon God. Genesis 40:8b (NLT)- Two long years pass, and Joseph's life maze appears to be a dead end. The only thing Joseph can control is his attitude and response.- Then, miraculously, God opens a new path.Genesis 41:16 (NLT)- Pharaoh elevates Joseph to vice president. In an instant, his life is transformed. All the twists and turns have led him to his divine purpose because he trusted God every step of the way.Life Lesson: The key to surviving the maze is to trust God.- Where is God in your maze?- He came to earth to walk every step of life's maze with you. But you must invite Him.- God is all about relationships. Changing circumstances and shifting events only restore relationships. God elevated Joseph to be united with his family and to save many lives.Genesis 44:16-34 (NLT)- Judah is willing to sacrifice his own life to save his brother and spare his father further grief. Joseph reveals himself to his brothers, and they are reconciled. The family is reunited.- What do you do when God doesn't seem to fix the problem? Just keep doing the next right thing. Take responsibility for your attitude. Take your cues from Joseph. Offer forgiveness rather than seeking revenge. Cooperate with God in His desire to bring reconciliation.Life Lesson: The key to thriving in the maze is to cooperate with God.- In this maze of life, God doesn't waste anything. Our part is to trust Him and obey faithfully.Genesis 50:17-20 (NLT)- "I'm not going to tell you My plan. I don't want you to trust the plan. I want you to trust Me."- When you can't trace His hand, trust His heart. - Will you trust Him? Will you cooperate with Him? Will you do the next right thing today?- When you can't trace His hand, the next right thing is to trust His heart. He loves you. And He will walk every step with you. Invite Him into your maze today.
You can't think of Joseph without thinking of his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! But Joseph's life was far from sunshine and rainbows. In fact, from the beginning, Joseph was mired in family dysfunction. However, his story is a source of encouragement that no matter what hardships we might be facing, we can be resilient enough to keep going, trusting that God goes with us.
Joseph's story started poorly.--Within moments of being introduced in Scripture, Joseph was thrown into a pit by his brothers. And not long after, he found himself in prison. So, where was God when calamity struck-- That will be the focus of today's study in Genesis 37.--Questions That We'll Answer--A- Why did Joseph's brothers hate him so much----B- Why did God allow Joseph to face so many hardships---C- Where is God when our own circumstances grow dark------Web- www.fpcgulfport.org-sermons
