The first episode of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) aired on October 11, 1975. It was the beginning of a long-running and iconic late-night sketch comedy and variety show that has remained a staple of American television ever since. In recognition of this, I want to dig into the vault and present, once again, my interview with Hugh Fink.While serving as a writer on NBC's Saturday Night Live alongside luminaries such as Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph, Norm MacDonald, Tina Fey, and Tracy Morgan, Hugh Fink not only gained acclaim for fearlessly satirizing pop culture but also made appearances as a commentator on the show's Weekend Update. Today on Crime & Entertainment we have Tom McLoughlin. Tom is an American screenwriter, film/television director and former mime who is most notable for directing Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and One Dark Night & Sometimes they come back. His other credits include numerous television films such as Murder in Greenwich, At Risk, Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life, Date with an Angel and the 2010 Lifetime Movie Network Film The Wronged Man.In 1977, McLoughlin was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program for his contributions to Van Dyke and Company, a special starring Dick Van Dyke. Two years later, he portrayed the robot S.T.A.R. (Special Troops/Arms Regiment) in the Disney film The Black Hole. He also played (along with Kevin Peter Hall) Katahdin, the mutated bear in the 1979 horror film Prophecy. Here we do a deep dive into Tom's experience on set while doing Friday the 13th part 6 - Jason Lives. Tim Ferguson, comedy legend and former member of Aussie musical comedy group the Doug Anthony Allstars, has honed his craft for many decades and now teaches comedy in various workshops around Australia. Becca also speaks with Artistic Director of Impro ACT Nick Burns about the importance of remaining in the moment as an improvisation artist. Improvention 2016 showcases local and international talent including an improvised movie that features at the festival.
Paul Mecurio is an Emmy and Peabody Award winner for his work on "The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart." He has appeared in his own Comedy Central Special, starred in his own series on HBO, appeared on CBS's "The Late, Late Show," VH-1, "Conan O'Brien," "Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld," "Hannity," CNN, MSNBC, "The Tonight Show," "The Daily Show," and ABC's "Wednesday's at 9:30." Paul graduated with honors from Georgetown Law School and began his career on Wall Street as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at the law firm of Willkie Farr and Gallagher and later as an investment banker at CS First Boston. All the while, Paul was honing a second career writing and performing comedy and was hired by Jay Leno to write jokes for “The Tonight Show.” With the encouragement of Jay, Paul moved center stage, leaving Wall Street and starting his career as a stand-up comedian. Paul was invited to be on the writing team for a new Comedy Central show called “The Daily Show.” As a writer for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” Paul won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement In Writing In A Variety, Music or Comedy Program. Paul has also been honored with a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting (think The Pulitzer Prize for Broadcasting) for his work on The Daily Show. Paul has also received a second Emmy nomination for his work on “The Daily Show.” Paul has been featured on “The Daily Show” as a correspondent and in “The Daily Show” segment, “Second Opinion,” in which he skewered the medical profession playing an HMO representative with a less than sympathetic mindset. Paul appears as a contributor on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and CNBC. Paul is a regular satirist on “Hannity,” “The Joy Behar Show,” “Dylan Ratigan” and “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld.”
