Happy Friday the 13th! The first of three Friday the 13ths in 2026, to be exact. And Scotty is joined once again by Stanley of The Gory Gays podcast to talk about the seventh installment in the series, "Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood." They discuss John Carl Buechler's entrance into the Friday the 13th series, as well as Kane Hodder's first outing as Jason Voorhees. They discuss the idea of having a telekinetic final girl going head to head with Jason. And finally, they talk about what's coming next in this series of movies. Two Corrections: In this episode, Stanley mentions that John Carl Buechler directed "Dolls", when he meant to say "Troll", which was released in the same year. Scotty also states that Russell is killed by Jason with a machete after Stanley says it was an axe. Stanley was correct. It was indeed an axe."Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood" centers around Tina, a girl with telekinetic abilities. She's brought to a remote cabin next to Crystal Lake to try to help her work with her abilities, but in an emotional moment, she ends up resurrecting Jason Voorhees and releasing him from the bottom of Crystal Lake.Feel free to send us a message! In this episode of Geek Freaks Headlines, we break down the news that A24 has acquired The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and is planning both a TV series and a new movie. The series is described as an “original approach” rather than a remake of the 1974 film, with J.T. Molner and Glen Powell attached as producers. We also talk about why A24 feels like a fascinating fit for slasher properties, how their tension-building style could change the vibe of classic franchises, and what this might mean for the broader horror landscape, including A24's Crystal Lake project tied to Friday the 13th. Finally, we toss out a personal wish: A24 taking a crack at the Halloween franchise.00:00 A24 acquires The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and announces plans for a TV series and movie00:15 The movie is early in development, and why a 1974 remake could still work00:28 Why A24's “care” and cinematic style could be a big upgrade for slashers00:50 A24's Crystal Lake connection and the hope for an A24-led Halloween revival01:04 Listener prompt and wrap-upA24 is expanding The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a TV series plus a separate film project. The TV series is positioned as an original take, not a straight remake of the 1974 story. The film side is still very early, which leaves the door open for several directions, including a fresh reboot.A24's signature tension and presentation could be a strong match for classic slasher DNA.With Crystal Lake also on A24's slate, it feels like they're building a real lane in horror franchises. There's real curiosity (and some excitement) around what A24 would “change or expand” in Chainsaw's world.“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has just been acquired by A24, and they're making a TV series and movie out of this.”“The TV series is going to be an original approach. It's not going to be a remake of the 1974 film.”“I wouldn't hate them remaking that, especially with A24's touch.”“I really want them to grab the Halloween franchise. Japanese metalcore force Crystal Lake are back with their seventh studio album, The Weight of Sound, set for release on 23rd January 2026 via Century Media Records. The Weight of Sound is a strong and confident statement from Crystal Lake. It showcases a band that knows exactly who they are while still finding room to evolve. Across the album, they balance aggression, melody, and variety well. Intelligent guest appearances and sharp, focused songwriting help elevate the tracks. While some moments occasionally feel familiar, particularly within the conventions of metalcore, there are plenty of standout passages of brutality, catchiness, and genuine emotion. All of this is delivered with precision and intent. As a whole, The Weight of Sound stands as one of the most complete and engaging releases in Crystal Lake's catalogue to date. On Nov. 14, Crystal Lake Publishing released “The Night Crew 2: Bloodlust” by Brad Ricks, the sequel to “The Night Crew.” Here's a look at what's in store: The Night Crew thought they'd seen it all-werewolves, vampires, and things too monstrous to name. Michael and his team are about to face something far deadlier: a supernatural killer with an insatiable thirst for blood and a plan to unleash chaos on New Orleans. This time, the enemy isn't hiding in the dark—they're walking boldly among the living, leaving a trail of corpses in their wake.  As the Night Crew fights to stop the bloodshed, they also confront their own inner demons: haunting memories, deadly secrets, and the chilling realization that some monsters aren't born—they're made. Brad talks about how he built on the first book to create his series and some of the elements he plans to include. He shares what challenges the Night Crew will face in the new book and the demons they'll square off with. We also go into how Brad came to work with Crystal Lake, as well as the story behind the chilling cover art. There's audiobooks for all his books [with the one for “Bloodlust” soon to be released] and Brad talks about how he knows a voice actor is the one to work with.

Friday the 13th 2  is a 1981 American slasher film produced and directed by Steve Miner in his directorial debut, and written by Ron Kurz. It is the sequel to Friday the 13th (1980), and the second installment in the franchise. Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, and Walt Gorney reprise their respective roles from the first film as Alice Hardy, Pamela Voorhees, and Crazy Ralph. Amy Steel and John Furey also star. Taking place five years after the first film, Part 2 follows a similar premise, with an unknown stalker killing a group of camp counselors at a training camp near Crystal Lake. The film marks the debut of Jason Voorhees as the series' main antagonist.
