Obsession has become one of the biggest and most talked about movies in America. So much so that it has actually been the number one movie at the box office during the week. Obviously, this will change over the holiday weekend, but it is still nice to see it doing so well. We also talk about what the future holds for it. It seems like we have been talking about Crystal Lake for years. And every once in a while, we have a little bit more information to discuss. This time we actually have a release date for the Friday the 13th spinoff. And it is just around the corner. Zombie apocalypse movies are a staple of horror. They can do a lot by doing a little. To break away from the formula, there have been a number of movies in the sub-genre that have tried to do more. This Is Not a Test tries to bring a depth rarely seen in zombie films. This ends up ruining the whole thing. At the very least, you would figure that people who like these types of films would enjoy it. The opening certainly gives that impression. After all, it is a generic zombie movie. Then you realize that there is a big piece missing from what is otherwise a ho-hum release. Geek Freaks is back with a packed episode covering the latest Lanterns trailer, the return of Westworld, new release dates for VisionQuest and Crystal Lake, and a full review of Punisher: One Last Kill. Frank and Squeaks break down what the new DC footage could mean for Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the larger Green Lantern mythology. The episode also gets into what a new Westworld movie needs to do differently from the HBO series, how VisionQuest could bring Ultron and Wanda back into play, and whether a Deathstroke and Bane movie could actually work as a darker action comedy. The back half shifts into Punisher: One Last Kill, Dungeon Crawler Carl, network updates, and weekly recommendations. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Back in the Studio!, CCS Recap, and Convention Stories 02:35 Question of the Week: Posters and Box Art That Started a Fandom 05:08 Lanterns Trailer Reaction and Green Lantern Theories 16:25 Westworld Movie Announcement and Franchise Potential 25:00 VisionQuest and Crystal Lake Release Date Discussion 31:42 Deathstroke and Bane Movie Talk 37:26 Punisher: One Last Kill Review 44:24 Dungeon Crawler Carl, Network Updates, and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The new Lanterns trailer sparked a big discussion about whether the show can balance grounded detective drama with the cosmic scale fans expect from Green Lantern. Frank and Squeaks dig into Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the possibility that the series could explore the morality and purpose of the Green Lantern Corps. The newly announced Westworld movie has Frank excited because the franchise can work as a smaller survival story set against a much bigger sci-fi collapse. VisionQuest and Crystal Lake landing back-to-back in October could make for a huge week of Marvel and horror viewing. The Deathstroke and Bane movie raises questions about tone, especially with Greg Mottola's comedy background, but the hosts see potential if it leans into a Suicide Squad style dynamic. Punisher: One Last Kill earns praise for its action, Jon Bernthal's performance, and emotional shift for Frank Castle, though Frank wanted more story before the ending. Quotes "Some of these games are just developed by one person, and what they do with that lack of help is phenomenal." "That's the Lanterns trailer they should have released first." "I think that's the button we're going to see: what is the morality of Green Lanterns?" "We got bad taste with how the HBO series ended, but I think we all fell in love with how it started." "The action was phenomenal. The killings were great. It got straight to the point." Interview by Kris PetersKnown for redefining genre boundaries, Prompts have built a reputation for masterfully fusing elements of nü-metal, mathcore, djent and deathcore, crafting a sound that is entirely unique to them that feels both experimental and refined. With members hailing from both Japan and South Korea, the band's dual heritage continues to shape their distinctive sound - a melding of contrasting influences and cultures.Continuing to prove themselves as one of metals most exciting up and coming acts, Japan-based metalcore outfit Prompts tread new ground on silky smooth new single "Death of Me", out now via Greyscale Records in partnership with Papercut Records (US).Leaning into a more subdued and atmospheric direction, "Death of Me" sees the band trade thrashing undercurrents for a slow-burning sense of yearning. The track lingers and aches, built around a deeply human contradiction - the kind of love where wanting the best for someone means convincing yourself to walk away. "One part of you swears letting go is the right thing to do, while the most honest part of you is quietly begging for the exact opposite," says the band. Ultimately, "Death of Me" unfolds as a confession confronting vulnerability and embracing softer truths. "It is about finally facing the softer, weaker parts of yourself you were trying to hide, and admitting that all you really wanted was to stay close to the person who never left your heart.”HEAVY sat down with frontman PK while he was in Australia as guest vocalist for Crystal Lake to find out more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Nuestro viaje por Crystal Lake se va acercando a su final con cada nueva entrega, pero aún queda algún tiempo para que llegue ese momento. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we are hitting the "lucky number seven" of two of the greatest slasher sagas in history! We are comparing two of the most daring entries in their respective franchises: the telekinetic showdown Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) and the groundbreaking meta-masterpiece Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994). It's a clash between the ultimate supernatural slasher and the movie that dared to break the fourth wall before "meta" was a household word. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) Directed by John Carl Buechler, The New Blood is often cited by fans as the "Jason vs. Carrie" installment. This is the monumental debut of Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees, bringing a newfound physical intensity and rage to the role that defined the character for the next decade. The story follows Tina Shepard, a girl with telekinetic powers who accidentally resurrects Jason from the bottom of Crystal Lake while trying to bring back her deceased father. With a massive psychic showdown and some of the franchise's most brutal practical kills—including the iconic sleeping bag moment—this entry turned Jason into a force of nature that literally required a supernatural match-up to stop. Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) Directed by Wes Craven himself, New Nightmare took the franchise to an entirely new dimension. Abandoning the continuity of the previous films, this entry takes place in the "real world," where actress Heather Langenkamp (playing herself) is stalked by a darker, more terrifying entity that has taken the form of Freddy Krueger. As Freddy begins to bleed into reality, terrorizing the cast and crew of the Nightmare films, the movie deconstructs the entire slasher genre. It's a brilliant, psychological horror film that explores the burden of fame, the danger of archetypes, and what happens when the monster you created decides to come for its creator. Join us as we analyze how these seventh installments reinvented their monsters. We'll discuss the visceral, heavy-metal spectacle of Kane Hodder's first outing as Jason versus the high-concept, cerebral terror of Wes Craven's meta-commentary. Spoilers start around 7:21.
The best way this movie can be described was said best by Jes on this episode and is now the new title of this movie in our hearts; "Freddy the 13th: A Nightmare on Crystal Lake"

Over two weeks this March, Eastern Massachusetts witnessed the heartbreaking conclusion of three separate missing persons cases.Three families that languished for months. Each case carried its own mystery. The first break came when an unnamed individual contacted police in Nashua, New Hampshire with information about a murder confession. That tip set off a chain of events that led homicide detectives to a modest home in the quiet town of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. Inside the garage, beneath epoxy and concrete, they found human remains. Thankfully, this person came forward or the fate of 47‑year‑old Jill Kloppenburg would remain unknown. She was vulnerable, she was missed. Now she has finally been found.Within hours of that discovery, another alert came in. This time from Wakefield. A body had been recovered from Lake Quannapowitt, the same area that had been the focus of searches for 45-year-old Jason Thomas, missing since December 13, 2025. Jason was last seen on surveillance footage crossing a street, heading toward the train station. His family explored every possibility, but this cold and snowy winter made searching the lake impossible. With the spring thaw came a sad end to his family's search. And then, just one week later, came the third case. Leonard Mercury, a 57‑year‑old man who had vanished on October 31, 2025, after leaving a hospital where he was receiving mental health treatment. He walked out in the early morning hours wearing only hospital scrubs and nothing more - no shoes, no wallet, no identification, no phone. His family feared he was distressed, vulnerable, and in danger. For months, they remained hopeful that Leonard found safety somewhere. A drone helped locate the presence of a person in Crystal Lake and Leonard was recovered after missing for five months.Jill Kloppenburg's services are Sat, April 4 in Tewksbury, Mass.https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/jill-kloppenburg-obituary?id=61131491Crime of the Truest KindHosted by Anngelle WoodMassachusetts and New England crime stories, hometown historycrimeofthetruestkind.com/jill-kloppenburg*Salty language: Light to medium, topic dependent. Picture this—an island paradise, cut off from all the craziness that we see in the world today. A perfect society, where nothing can go wrong….until it does. Author Mia Dalia joins me to talk about her new book, “Beautiful, Once,” out through Crystal Lake Publishing. Here's a look at the story: When a controversial tech billionaire retreats from society, he constructs a private island designed to be the ultimate controlled experiment: a hand-selected population, sustainable systems, and a flawless model for humanity's future. A paradise engineered to perfection. But perfection breeds boredom. Seeking recognition—and perhaps validation—he sends a message into the cosmos, broadcasting The Island's triumph to the universe. All hell breaks loose when something replies. Within hours, the community fractures. Neighbors turn on neighbors. A savage, insatiable hunger spreads. Civilization unravels. I've just started reading this and am loving it! Mia and I talk all about the creation of the book, the different perspectives of the characters that drive it, and get a peek at just how badly things go wrong. Mia also shares the story behind the amazing cover and gives us a look at her many works to be released in 2026. Like what you heard? Happy Friday the 13th!!! This episode Brain and Nez bring to you the 2020 Friday the 13th fan film NEVER HIKE IN THE SNOW. Set three months prior to “Never Hike Alone,” “Never Hike in the Snow” follows the strange disappearance of Mark Hill (Courtlan Gordon), a Crystal Lake resident who went for a hike in the dead of winter and never came home. As Local Wessex County Sheriff Rick Cologne (Vinny Guastaferro) and Deputy Allen Mabry (Bryan Forrest) search for answers, town local Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) believes that his old nemesis Jason Voorhees (Vincente DiSanti) is to blame. Will Diana Hill (Anna Campbell) ever see her son again, or will her son become another lost victim of the cursed camp? We return to Crystal Lake (sorry... Forest Green) for our next bonus episode exploring the Friday the 13th series. Check out the Manic Movie Monday podcast: https://rss.com/podcasts/manicmoviemonday/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/manicmoviemondaypod/
He's back! The man behind the mask! Friday the 13th is keeping us busy this year with two in two months and another on the way. This time we're taking a look at 1986's Jason Lives, the movie that canned the original plan to have Tommy Jarvis take up the machete and establishes Jason Voorhees as a lumbering, unstoppable killing machine from beyond the grave! In this movie Tommy Jarvis skips the mental hospital he's been confined at to return to Crystal Lake, since renamed to Forest Green in order to shake its horrible reputation. His mission: dig up the body of Jason Voorhees, who has haunted him since he was a little kid, and make sure that he's dead. But when Tommy's obsession overlaps with an electrical storm, a bolt of lightning strikes the body of Jason and brings him back from the grave once again to kill everyone in sight. Now it's up to Tommy to face his fears and put Jason back in the ground for good. When A New Beginning hit theaters it did characteristically well in box office but faced a significant problem with fans: They hated the new direction. They came for Jason and they left with Tommy and everyone hated it. So Frank Mancuso Jr., now a little preoccupied with his War of the Worlds and Friday the 13th TV shows, left the entire project in the hands of writer and director Tom McLoughlin with one clear directive: Do whatever you want but bring back Jason. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)Directed By: Rob HeddenStarring: Jensen Daggett, Kane Hodder, Todd Caldecott, An annoying old man. That pesky Jason Vorhees is at it AGAIN... This time he hitches his wagon to a senior class cruise out of Crystal Lake and after some tomfoolery he ends up in New York City (Manhattan specifically) to visit Macy's for some shopping, Madison Square Garden to see a boxing match, and to see where his family was admitted through Ellis Island. It's that time of year again where we pit 16 horror icons against each other but this year it happens to fall on a Friday the 13th so all 16 characters are from the series. They're battling it out to see who's the true champion of Crystal Lake.
Hush now… and listen closely. This week on the Scary Spirits Podcast, I invite you back to Camp Crystal Lake as we honor the cursed calendar day that started it all—Friday the 13th. Join your doomed counselors, Karen and Greg, as they bravely revisit the 2009 Friday the 13th film, dissecting every kill, callback, and chilling moment that dares disturb Jason's legacy. As the blood runs cold, they sip on a wickedly themed cocktail—the “Jason Voorhees Crystal Lake Chiller”—a drink as deceptive and dangerous as the waters themselves. This episode is a must-listen for horror fans, slasher devotees, and anyone craving a nostalgic dive into one of the most infamous franchises in horror history. Remember…If you shouldn't be listening…You'll know. Jason Voorhees’ Crystal Lake Chiller • 1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao (for a deep lake-blue color)• 1 oz Vodka (clear like lake water)• 1/2 oz Lime juice (for sharpness)• 1/2 oz Triple sec• A splash of soda water (to add a misty effect)• Blue edible glitter (to mimic the shimmer of water under moonlight)• A sprig of mint (to represent the forest around Crystal Lake) Instructions: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the Blue Curacao, vodka, lime juice, and Triple sec. Shake vigorously until the mixture is well chilled. Strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice. Top with a splash of soda water for a slight fizz. Sprinkle blue edible glitter over the top to create a shimmering water effect. Garnish with a sprig of mint and either a small decorative machete or a mask resting on the rim of the glass. Source: creepybonfire.com A Brief Synopsis: Against the advice of locals and police, Clay scours the eerie woods surrounding Crystal Lake for his missing sister. But the rotting cabins of an abandoned summer camp are not the only things he finds. Hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees lies in wait for a chance to use his razor-sharp machete on Clay and the group of college students who have come to the forest to party. Some of the topics discussed and highlights of this episode include: Karen gives us a history of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Our hosts reminisce about the band Night Ranger and the song “Sister Christian”. We learn some safety facts about motorcycle helmets. The history of “Hustler” magazine is discussed. Greg makes a reference to a song by the band “Dokken”. Our rating of the film: This movie was OK. It took us 3 cocktails to get through it. Take our online survey! We want to know more about you! This Friday the 13th, Captains Matthew Renaldi and Greg Caldwell welcome EJ and Rory aboard the S.S. Lazarus to take a luxury cruise from Crystal Lake to Crystal Ocean where they discuss the much maligned slasher entry “FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN!” There were a couple of other guests who were scheduled to record who had some legitimately insightful takes on this film, but Jason hacked them up…so now you're left with whatever dumb thoughts these jerks have to share.
We are adding a whole new dimension to our revisit of early Kill By Kill episodes, as we begin our eye-popping journey into FRIDAY THE 13th 3D! To get this engine chugging, we delve into the dangerous world of Crystal Lake convenience stores/model train museums, discuss why having a toilet in your stockroom may violate every health code, and debate whether Steve Miner makes a better movie director or a fake news anchor. Happy Friday the 13th! The first of three Friday the 13ths in 2026, to be exact. And Scotty is joined once again by Stanley of The Gory Gays podcast to talk about the seventh installment in the series, "Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood." They discuss John Carl Buechler's entrance into the Friday the 13th series, as well as Kane Hodder's first outing as Jason Voorhees. They discuss the idea of having a telekinetic final girl going head to head with Jason. And finally, they talk about what's coming next in this series of movies. Two Corrections: In this episode, Stanley mentions that John Carl Buechler directed "Dolls", when he meant to say "Troll", which was released in the same year. Scotty also states that Russell is killed by Jason with a machete after Stanley says it was an axe. Stanley was correct. It was indeed an axe."Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood" centers around Tina, a girl with telekinetic abilities. She's brought to a remote cabin next to Crystal Lake to try to help her work with her abilities, but in an emotional moment, she ends up resurrecting Jason Voorhees and releasing him from the bottom of Crystal Lake.Feel free to send us a message! They dive deep into the murky waters of this 1989 sequel to discuss the bizarre plot holes, the confusing geography, and the sheer absurdity of Jason Voorhees stalking Times Square. In this episode, they unpack:
"This place is aching for a video! "The Horror Bulls set sail with Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989), the entry that famously promises NYC mayhem and mostly delivers cruise-ship carnage. In this episode of Geek Freaks Headlines, we break down the news that A24 has acquired The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and is planning both a TV series and a new movie. The series is described as an “original approach” rather than a remake of the 1974 film, with J.T. Molner and Glen Powell attached as producers. We also talk about why A24 feels like a fascinating fit for slasher properties, how their tension-building style could change the vibe of classic franchises, and what this might mean for the broader horror landscape, including A24's Crystal Lake project tied to Friday the 13th. Finally, we toss out a personal wish: A24 taking a crack at the Halloween franchise.00:00 A24 acquires The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and announces plans for a TV series and movie00:15 The movie is early in development, and why a 1974 remake could still work00:28 Why A24's “care” and cinematic style could be a big upgrade for slashers00:50 A24's Crystal Lake connection and the hope for an A24-led Halloween revival01:04 Listener prompt and wrap-upA24 is expanding The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a TV series plus a separate film project. The TV series is positioned as an original take, not a straight remake of the 1974 story. The film side is still very early, which leaves the door open for several directions, including a fresh reboot.A24's signature tension and presentation could be a strong match for classic slasher DNA.With Crystal Lake also on A24's slate, it feels like they're building a real lane in horror franchises. There's real curiosity (and some excitement) around what A24 would “change or expand” in Chainsaw's world.“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has just been acquired by A24, and they're making a TV series and movie out of this.”“The TV series is going to be an original approach. It's not going to be a remake of the 1974 film.”“I wouldn't hate them remaking that, especially with A24's touch.”“I really want them to grab the Halloween franchise. That's my favorite horror franchise.”If you enjoyed the episode, subscribe to Geek Freaks Headlines, leave a quick review, and share this episode with a fellow horror fan using #GeekFreaksHeadlines.GeekFreaksPodcast.com (our news source)Twitter: @geekfreakspodInstagram: @geekfreakspodcastThreads: @geekfreakspodcastFacebook: The Geek Freaks PodcastPatreon: Geek Freaks PodcastGot strong opinions on what A24 should keep sacred vs. reinvent in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
