Dirige y presenta, Salva Vargas. Welcome back, campers! Grab your machetes, hide your chocolate bars, and definitely don't wander off alone into the woods, because in this week's episode we're diving headfirst into one of the weirdest and most controversial entries in the Friday the 13th franchise: Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. That's right—Jason Voorhees is dead (allegedly), but that doesn't mean the body count is slowing down. In fact, the only thing multiplying faster than the kills in this movie is the confusion over who's actually doing the killing. Spoiler: it's not who you think… and also not who you want it to be.This episode, we're strapping on our camp counselor whistles and taking you on a tour through the asylum of Tommy Jarvis's post-trauma psyche. Poor Tommy just wanted a little peace and quiet, but instead he gets a halfway house full of characters who feel like they wandered in from completely different movies: there's the leather-clad greasers who look like they took a wrong turn out of Grease 2, the random angry redneck mom screaming at her son to shovel chicken slop, and of course the infamous chocolate-bar-swinging Joey who manages to meet one of the most absurdly brutal fates in horror history. We break it all down—every bizarre subplot, every head-scratching creative choice, and every death scene that makes you go, “Wait, why did that just happen?”But don't worry, we're not just roasting this movie (though it deserves a good roasting). We're also giving it its due credit: the kills are plentiful, the sleaze is cranked up to eleven, and there's a weird charm in its chaotic energy. From garden shears to road flares, Part V is basically a slasher smorgasbord where no weapon is off-limits. We even get one of the most outrageous outhouse scenes in horror history—seriously, has there ever been a scarier place to sing along to yourself while doing your business? Probably not.And then, of course, there's the big reveal: the “mystery killer.” Was anyone buying it? Did anyone walk out of the theater thinking, “Wow, what a satisfying twist!” Or was it more like, “Wait, who the hell was that guy again?” We'll talk about the Scooby-Doo-level unmasking, why fans at the time were furious, and whether or not Friday the 13th really needed a “new beginning” that turned out to be more like a weird detour. Throughout the episode, we sprinkle in some laughs, some chills, and some genuine appreciation for this much-maligned entry. Because here's the thing: while A New Beginning might not have Jason in it (unless you count dream sequences and hallucinations), it's still a fascinating time capsule of mid-80s slasher excess. The film is sleazy, cheesy, over-the-top, and occasionally so bad it circles back around to being good. And really, isn't that what we love about horror in the first place? So tune in as we unpack the madness. We'll share our favorite kills, our least favorite characters (sorry, Joey), and even debate whether this movie would have been better if Jason had been resurrected in true supernatural fashion. We'll also touch on how Part V paved the way for the next chapter (Jason Lives), where the franchise finally embraced its undead campfire legend status. In the end, A New Beginning may not be the most beloved Friday installment, but it's definitely one of the most unforgettable—and we had a blast hacking our way through it.So grab your sleeping bag, keep your eyes peeled for ambulance drivers with suspicious motives, and join us around the campfire (or maybe just the nearest porta-potty) as we relive the madness of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. Remember: in the woods, no one can hear you scream… but they can definitely hear you singing in the outhouse.

Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1986) Directed By: Danny Steinmann Starring: Melanie Kinnaman, John Shepherd, Anthony Barrile, some other fuckin' little twerp. Well, it's Friday the 13th again, so we're baaaaack for another installment in our Friday the 13th... thing. Jason is back (or is he) to terrorize some more campers... or mental patients, and IMDB says: "Still haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area." Our battle for pitching supremacy becomes a battle of numbers as we pitch sequels to the Friday the 13th series! We kick things off with a cold open and a dash of humor before diving into the heart of the show. We discuss the long-form content that often turns into non sequiturs, followed by the latest home video headlines, including Netflix's upcoming animated series In Case of Emergency set in a British hospital and the surprising renewal of Billy the Kid for its third and final season. Moving on to our main feature, we explore Jason Lives (Friday the 13th Part 6), where Tommy Jarvis unwittingly resurrects Jason Voorhees while trying to cremate his remains. With recurring themes and characters, we touch on the film's influence, notable trivia, and why this installment stands out in the franchise. Highlights include the director's clever nods to other horror films and the unique kills that make you actually care about the characters. Additionally, we react to They Live, a John Carpenter classic, discussing its themes of artificial consciousness and subliminal messaging in the context of our current media landscape. Lastly, I introduce my rating system: Binge Now, Binge Later, and Binge Never. Spoiler alert: Jason Lives gets a solid Binge Now from me! Things get weird this week on Thirsty for Gore as Aleks and Milenko dive into Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning! This entry takes the franchise into zany, bizarre territory, with a sleazy vibe that's no surprise given the director's porno background. While the movie continues the intriguing Tommy Jarvis storyline, it also feels like a fever dream of questionable choices, outrageous moments, and the kind of campiness you can't unsee. It's a fascinatingly weird but objectively terrible film, and the brothers have an absolute blast breaking down the chaos and what it adds—if anything—to Jason lore. Get ready for a hilarious, in-depth discussion of one of the franchise's strangest and most infamous entries!
Syndicated Source Material #050 - Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash "Nightmare Warriors"Original Air Date - 10/26/2015In this special Halloween episode of the Source Material Podcast, Jesse Starcher is joined by Gavin Napier to revisit one of their most thrilling past discussions: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: Nightmare Warriors, the explosive follow-up to their previous coverage of the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic series. Just in time for spooky season, they dive deep into the second installment of this brutal crossover that brings together some of the most iconic horror figures in pop culture. The episode begins with some reflections on the difficulty of finding this rare six-issue miniseries. Gavin recounts how these comics are hard to come by and how the team scraped together their digital copies just in time for the recording. Once set, the duo launches into an in-depth discussion of the creative team, the series' art style, and the continuation of the bizarre lore that ties Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Ash Williams together. The story picks up with Jason Voorhees being extracted from the bottom of Crystal Lake by federal agents, while Ash tries to live a peaceful suburban life, grill spatula in... arm? However, peace doesn't last long as Jason's inevitable return drags Ash, along with a host of survivors from the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, back into the fight against the relentless slasher villains. The pair discuss key elements of the plot, such as the role of the Necronomicon in controlling Jason, and how Freddy Krueger gets resurrected by a rogue government plot that goes horribly awry.Jesse and Gavin examine the expanded cast, including a slew of familiar faces from both horror franchises like Tommy Jarvis and Tina Shepard, and how the story taps into the backstories of these characters, creating an epic showdown of ultimate survivor vs. ultimate horror icons. The guys also break down the action-packed sequences where Freddy and Jason wreak havoc across Washington D.C., culminating in a massive battle with the U.S. military and the unleashed army of Deadites. As always, the episode is filled with fun commentary on the over-the-top action, the grisly deaths, and how the comic's art does its best to capture the sheer chaos of Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: Nightmare Warriors. This is a must-listen for fans of slasher horror, comic crossovers, and anyone looking for a bit of nostalgia mixed with some Halloween-season fun.

In the 1980s, many movie fans thought the Friday the 13th series was at its best with the fourth movie, The Final Chapter, where it seemed like Jason Voorhees was finally defeated. The fifth film, A New Beginning, tried to take the story in a new direction but didn't satisfy fans. Then, a new writer and director named Tom McLoughlin was asked to bring new life to the series and the famous killer. In his story, Tommy Jarvis digs up Jason's grave with the plan to burn his remains and end the trauma he caused. Instead of ending Jason's terror, a bolt of lightning hits the corpse, bringing him back to life like Frankenstein. Listen to Tim Williams and co-hosts Charlie Cotter and Laramy Wells from the "Moving Panels" Podcast, as they discuss "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" from 1986 on this special bonus episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: Writer/director Tom McLoughlin decided that Jason would not harm a child out of sympathy for the plight of children generated by his childhood drowning. Following the example of the film, we dig into each character in the order in which they die, explore the film's audacious storytelling gambit, challenge our concept of a #GetBunked death, debate whether you should pick up random woodland lockets, and dig up as many Friday the 13th easter eggs as we can find in the beautiful Canadian wilderness!! All this, plus best corpse use practices, we put some respect on Tommy Jarvis' name, propose that filmmakers run dialogue past Chappell Roan, and put a unique POV behind a game of Choose Your Own Deathventure!! It's a hack-tacular spectacular this week on Kill By Kill!! Bring home A Quiet Place: Day One on Digital now! Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn star in the film, which critics say is "packed with nail-biting tension and thrills." It includes over 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and deleted scenes!
