Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1986) Directed By: Danny Steinmann Starring: Melanie Kinnaman, John Shepherd, Anthony Barrile, some other fuckin' little twerp. Well, it's Friday the 13th again, so we're baaaaack for another installment in our Friday the 13th... thing. Jason is back (or is he) to terrorize some more campers... or mental patients, and IMDB says: "Still haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area." Our battle for pitching supremacy becomes a battle of numbers as we pitch sequels to the Friday the 13th series! You'll hear exactly how many pitches we come up with which may surprise you and one of us, which of us tries to continue the story of Tommy Jarvis and which of us finds the key to continuing the story of Jason in space, who will call Spaceon. Thanks to our monthly supporters Andrew Pangle Steve Weiss Matthew Aldrich Edward Lankford Heather Sahami
We kick things off with a cold open and a dash of humor before diving into the heart of the show. We discuss the long-form content that often turns into non sequiturs, followed by the latest home video headlines, including Netflix's upcoming animated series In Case of Emergency set in a British hospital and the surprising renewal of Billy the Kid for its third and final season. Moving on to our main feature, we explore Jason Lives (Friday the 13th Part 6), where Tommy Jarvis unwittingly resurrects Jason Voorhees while trying to cremate his remains. With recurring themes and characters, we touch on the film's influence, notable trivia, and why this installment stands out in the franchise. Highlights include the director's clever nods to other horror films and the unique kills that make you actually care about the characters. Additionally, we react to They Live, a John Carpenter classic, discussing its themes of artificial consciousness and subliminal messaging in the context of our current media landscape. Lastly, I introduce my rating system: Binge Now, Binge Later, and Binge Never. Spoiler alert: Jason Lives gets a solid Binge Now from me! Join us for a thrilling discussion packed with horror insights, nostalgia, and a few laughs as we celebrate the spooky season! Try Paramount Plus https://bit.ly/PeakScreamingFREE
Things get weird this week on Thirsty for Gore as Aleks and Milenko dive into Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning! This entry takes the franchise into zany, bizarre territory, with a sleazy vibe that's no surprise given the director's porno background. While the movie continues the intriguing Tommy Jarvis storyline, it also feels like a fever dream of questionable choices, outrageous moments, and the kind of campiness you can't unsee. It's a fascinatingly weird but objectively terrible film, and the brothers have an absolute blast breaking down the chaos and what it adds—if anything—to Jason lore. Get ready for a hilarious, in-depth discussion of one of the franchise's strangest and most infamous entries!
Syndicated Source Material #050 - Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash "Nightmare Warriors"Original Air Date - 10/26/2015In this special Halloween episode of the Source Material Podcast, Jesse Starcher is joined by Gavin Napier to revisit one of their most thrilling past discussions: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: Nightmare Warriors, the explosive follow-up to their previous coverage of the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic series. Just in time for spooky season, they dive deep into the second installment of this brutal crossover that brings together some of the most iconic horror figures in pop culture. The episode begins with some reflections on the difficulty of finding this rare six-issue miniseries. Gavin recounts how these comics are hard to come by and how the team scraped together their digital copies just in time for the recording. Once set, the duo launches into an in-depth discussion of the creative team, the series' art style, and the continuation of the bizarre lore that ties Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Ash Williams together. The story picks up with Jason Voorhees being extracted from the bottom of Crystal Lake by federal agents, while Ash tries to live a peaceful suburban life, grill spatula in... arm? However, peace doesn't last long as Jason's inevitable return drags Ash, along with a host of survivors from the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, back into the fight against the relentless slasher villains. The pair discuss key elements of the plot, such as the role of the Necronomicon in controlling Jason, and how Freddy Krueger gets resurrected by a rogue government plot that goes horribly awry.Jesse and Gavin examine the expanded cast, including a slew of familiar faces from both horror franchises like Tommy Jarvis and Tina Shepard, and how the story taps into the backstories of these characters, creating an epic showdown of ultimate survivor vs. ultimate horror icons. The guys also break down the action-packed sequences where Freddy and Jason wreak havoc across Washington D.C., culminating in a massive battle with the U.S. military and the unleashed army of Deadites. As always, the episode is filled with fun commentary on the over-the-top action, the grisly deaths, and how the comic's art does its best to capture the sheer chaos of Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: Nightmare Warriors. This is a must-listen for fans of slasher horror, comic crossovers, and anyone looking for a bit of nostalgia mixed with some Halloween-season fun.

In the 1980s, many movie fans thought the Friday the 13th series was at its best with the fourth movie, The Final Chapter, where it seemed like Jason Voorhees was finally defeated. The fifth film, A New Beginning, tried to take the story in a new direction but didn't satisfy fans. Then, a new writer and director named Tom McLoughlin was asked to bring new life to the series and the famous killer. In his story, Tommy Jarvis digs up Jason's grave with the plan to burn his remains and end the trauma he caused. Instead of ending Jason's terror, a bolt of lightning hits the corpse, bringing him back to life like Frankenstein. Listen to Tim Williams and co-hosts Charlie Cotter and Laramy Wells from the "Moving Panels" Podcast, as they discuss "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" from 1986 on this special bonus episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: Writer/director Tom McLoughlin decided that Jason would not harm a child out of sympathy for the plight of children generated by his childhood drowning. Welcome to an altogether new show here at Cinema Degneration we are calling "Without Warning." The theme for this show is unlike any other in our lineup. Hosted by Cinema Degeneration CEO Cameron Scott and his co-host, author, voiceover artist, and host of 'The Diabolical Index' Korey Dawson. The theme is simple: Scott calls Dawson out of the blue with no warning as to what the topic of conversation will be...without warning if you will. Scott will continuously test the overall skill and level of pop culture and movie expertise of Mr. Dawson with totally random topics including movies, literature, pop culture, music, art, comics and more. Dawson has absolutely no prior knowledge to these show topics and is going into the discussions totally blind. These shows are a hoot to record, and we hope as much fun for the audience to listen back to. The 7th episode show topic is on the most legendary of slasher franchises with the "FRIDAY THE 13TH FRANCHISE". Essentially you are all in for a deep dive discussion on the entire Friday the 13th film saga including the remake and Freddy VS Jason. We'll talk all about the good, the bad, and the ugly. Topics range from lengthy debates on favorite characters, most memorable kill scenes, theories and tidbits and trivia, everything about ole Jason Voorhees (including our favorite version of Jason), Mama and Papa Voorhees, Tommy Jarvis, Creighton Duke, Roy, Crazy Ralph plus more. We talk to Thom Mathews - Legendary Actor known for portraying Tommy Jarvis in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and Freddy in The Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2. Thom recalls growing up in Hollywood and what led him to pursue an acting career. We learn of his friendship and loyalty to George Clooney and the lengths Thom went to creating the look and style of characters he played in his career. Along the way we hear about how the band Visage weren't too keen on the classic Zombie movie of 1985 and how it was for Thom to return to the Tommy Jarvis role decades later in the Never Hike Alone series of movies.Presented in association with Affinity Photo - The hottest photo editing software on iPad, Mac & PChttps://affinity.serif.com/photoIntro Music by Johnny Monacohttps://www.johnnymonaco.com/ Incidental Music by Night Fires Please visit The Straight To Video Patreon Page to find out how you can help grow this show. https://patreon.com/stvpod

Endings, whether for a TV series or a movie franchise, often leave both the audience and the creators/actors feeling unsatisfied. It's a heavy burden to "get it right," and we've seen the impact a true ending can have on a series. True fans never want something they love to end, even if they're bombarded with subpar sequels. A continuation may mean an endless stream of content, but it can also dilute the very essence that made us fall in love with the series in the first place. Not many series can boast having four movies in total in their continuity, let alone two. Personally, I believe a quadriology, or a four-part series, is often the ideal number to fully explore the story of a concept, regardless of the genre. Jason has undoubtedly become a cornerstone for slasher films, and while he wasn't the first, he has certainly made his mark, with his teleporting, zombie-like presence. In our future episodes, we won't overlook the myriad of other sequels to come, but for now, we're bidding farewell to the original story being told. Fortunately, there are a few standalone movies to navigate through before we dive back into action with new and compelling protagonists facing even deadlier antagonists. The choice to bring in Corey Feldman, an '80s child star, to seal the "Final Chapter" seemed obvious, but I can't help feeling conflicted about it. It's great to see him in yet another successful horror movie, but it also feels like a forced entry. If the plan wasn't to explore Tommy Jarvis as the new face of Friday the 13th, then why opt for a higher-level talent for the role? Throughout the film, Feldman's character didn't have much significance until the very end fight scene, and even then, the actions taken felt rather odd and puzzling. I must admit, I'm quite disappointed with the choices made in "The Final Chapter," and more than anything, I'm left feeling perplexed. The few teases of Feldman in future movies as a "continuation" appear to be a cop-out instead of taking a bold leap into uncharted territory within the Friday the 13th Universe. We've concluded the original quadriology, so shouldn't we celebrate with some classic skinny dipping or something along those lines? It's a bit of a letdown, to say the least.

In this episode, hosts Katherine Troyer and Toni Tresca return to Crystal Lake once more for their discussion of the 1984 horror slasher film Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Episode Highlights: We talk about how this film works to set itself apart from the other entries in the franchise, even as it continues the franchise's MO of punishing teens for...well, being teens. Much of our examination of this episode centers on the relationship between Trish and Tommy Jarvis and the ways that they serve, respectively, as the film's final girl and final boy. Our scholarship for this episode encouraged us to explore further this idea of the final boy and if (and how) the concept of the final boy might differ from our understandings of the final guy à la Ash Williams. A Dose of Scholarship: We return, again, to Horror Homeroom's first special issue "Friday the 13th at 40" and we specifically reference Ethan Robles' article "'Die! Die! Die!': The Birth of the Final Boy in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter." This podcast episode first aired on November 18, 2022. What would we do without our editor-extraordinaire Jackson O'Brien? Probably lay down and cry. Thanks Jackson! ALL LINKS Twitter/Instagram: @NightmarePod1; YouTube: Such a Nightmare; Email: suchanightmare.pod@gmail.com; Website: suchanightmare.com

Be astounded by the amazing appearance of the twins! And salute stunt performer extraordinaire, Ted White! In our mini reviews, Jason the Terrible goes back to the Packanack Lodge for counselor training and witnesses Jason's sack-mask trail of terror in Friday the 13th Part 2. On this spooky season edition of Parallax Views, we've got not one but two conversations to get you ready for Halloween! First, up Jason Brooks joins us to discuss the new Friday the fan film he's directed, wrote, and starred in called Friday the 13th Vengeance Part 2: Bloodlines. the first Friday the 13th Vengeance was a huge hit with fans of the Jason Voorhees saga and with it's professional-look, use of alumni from the Friday the 13th franchise, and feature-length running time was often spoken about as being "more than a fan film" when it came out. The sequel ups the ante further by featuring Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers's Tamara Glynn and Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives's Darcy Demoss and fan favorite Thom Matthews reprising their roles as Nikki and the Jason's heroic arch-nemesis Tommy Jarvis. Also returning are Friday the 13th Part 6's C.J. Graham (who played Jason in Part 6), as Jason's father Elias Voorhees, and Tom McLoughlin, the writer and director of Part 6, as the new character Gravekeeper Walt. Both Vengeance Pt. 2 and its predecessor features a massive amount of gory carnage candy for fans of the series as well as some surprises along the way, including an appearance from The Ramones' Richie Ramone as a punk rocker! In this short but sweet conversation Jason and I discuss: - The origins of Friday the 13th Vengeance and how it started as an entirely different film called Friday the 13th: Mythos; the love and passion that went into Vengeance and how it became known as "More Than Just a Fan Film" thanks to the effort of Friday the 13th Part II's Steve Dash (who appears as the town Sheriff in the fan film; his last film role); the stars of Vengeance including the aforementioned Steve Dash, Friday the 13th Part 6's C.J. Graham, Diana Prince (aka Darcy the Mail Girl of Joe Bob Briggs' Last Drive-In fame on Shudder), and former Penthouse Pet Veronica Ricci among others - The inclusion of Jason Voorhees' father Elias Voorhees in Friday the 13th Vengeance Part 2: Bloodlines and his origins in the Tom McLoughlin's original screenplay for Friday the 13th Part 6 (Elias also appeared in a number of the comic book spin-offs of Friday the 13th) - Talking about the special and make-up effects, kills, gore for the films and involvement of Hollywood/filmmaking professionals from special FX artist Joe Castro to Friday the 13th's original composer Harry Manfredini - What Jason and Co. learned from the experience of making the first Vengeance and how that informed Vengeance Pt. 2 - The shooting schedule and principle photography for Vengeance Pt. 2 and information about its budget - Video technology and the barrier to entry to making a professional-looking fan film - Why Jason and Co. wanted to make a sequel to Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives particularly - And much, much more! In the second half of the program, an old TV horror anthology has resurfaced after years of languishing in the tape trading underground of horror fanatics. Once only available in the form of poor quality bootlegs, Freddy's Nightmares is the forgotten Nightmare on Elm Street TV series that has recently experienced new life (and better quality) on the free (with ads) streaming service known as Tubi. Done in the style of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, the show featured Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund of the film series) hosting bizarre and gruesome stories about his stomping grounds of Spirngwood, Ohio. Some of the episodes feature Freddy within the story while most only feature him in host segment. One particularly notorious episode, the pilot "No More Mr. Nice Guy", was directed by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Tobe Hooper and acted as an origin story for Freddy Krueger and prequel to Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street. With the series getting more attention thanks to it's being hosted on Tubi now, indie filmmaker Henrique Couto and David Denoyer have started a podcast in which they discuss each episode entitled Welcome to Primetime: A Freddy's Nightmares Retrospective. Henrique and David joins us to discuss not only Freddy's Nightmares but also the Freddy-mania of the 1980s, J.G.'s first experience with Freddy Krueger as a child vis-a-vis an unrewound Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (notorious for its homosexual subtext), the before-they-were-stars appearances of actors and actresses like Brad Pitt and Tank Girl's Lori Petty in Freddy's Nightmares, the origin of Freddy's Nightmares, the subversive themes of the NOES franchise, Re-Animator's Jeffrey Combs appearance in Freddy's Nightmares, the idea of elevated horror, thoughts on David Gordon Green's divisive Halloween Ends, how technology (cameras, lighting equipment, etc.) has allowed for a lower barrier to entry for aspiring filmmakers, Henrique's new anthology series Found Footage, the importance of learning craft in filmmaking, the weird dream sequences in Freddy's Nightmares, whether we'll ever see a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie, the FREDDY's TRICKS & TREATS episode of FREDDY's NIGHTMARES featuring a sleazy striptease from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Mariska Hargitay, and much, much more!

It's not easy being a leading man in a genre that is primarily known for Scream Queens and masked maniacs. But Thom Mathews is truly one of the great leading men of horror. As Freddy in the beloved zombie classic Return of the Living Dead (Joey in its sequel) and Friday the 13th series hero Tommy Jarvis in franchise favorite Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Thom has managed the difficult balance of being both heroic and vulnerable in films that are often thought to be populated by stock characters.Thom and I chat about his experience on Return of the Living Dead, learning comedic timing from heavyweights like James Karen and Clu Gulager; his days running around LA auditioning while rooming with pal George Clooney; making a huge rock designed to drag Jason Vorhees to the bottom of Crystal Lake NOT look like it was made of Styrofoam; and his love of being creative not just as an actor, but also building homes for the who's who of Hollywood. For Kevin Lane, one of the joys of hosting this show is getting to meet the icons of his childhood, and Thom is certainly one of them. He brings a ton of heart to his work and plenty of BRRRAAAIIINNNSSS. Yep, we went there. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Get more at podsematary.com! Read our afterthoughts for this episode at https://twitter.com/PodSematary/status/1524976256625758208 It's Friday the 13th on Pod Sematary! Time for the fifth entry in both the Friday and Scream franchises! This week, Chris & Kelsey hallucinate famous killers and, by the end, become the killers themselves. The Classic Film: Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) "Still haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area” (IMDb.com). The franchise has abandoned even Jason Voorhees in favor of a new killer and a plethora of f-bombs and tits, but we'll be damned if it's not still a little entertaining. The Modern Film: Scream (2022) "25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past” (IMDb.com). The self-referential style of Scream has now folded in on itself and even the meta is meta. The fifth installment hasn't brought the franchise to ruin without Wes Craven—in fact, there's a lot to like here—but the execution leaves much to be desired. It's another Friday the 13th, so we're back on the Jason Voorhees beat with Jason Lives (1986), the sixth entry in the franchise and also its smartest? That's the argument Trace makes, though Joe is less certain about its humor. What we both agree on is that the Tom McLoughlin film has a (mostly) great final girl in Megan, a hot Tommy Jarvis, and Jason's got a tight heinie.Plus: the Camp Blood card game (here are the rules), the film's best death and scariest sequences, and justice for Sissy and Paula, who deserved more screen time than those corporate paint ballers!Questions?
