FM #332 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 332 in the series. This session shares my conversation with Jen Kuse, volunteer coordinator of the Franklin Food Pantry beds at the Community Garden. We are also joined by Lynn Calling, Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry. Our conversation was conducted at the Community Garden, outdoor, and adhering to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period. In this conversation, we learn about Jen’s green thumb (sometimes brown and dirty) as she coordinates the efforts of several local churches and many volunteers to provide fresh produce to the Food Pantry’s clients. The Tuesday of the week we recorded this, they delivered 50 pounds of produce, with likely another 50 pounds scheduled for Friday for the Food Pantry. This is a great story to share. You can help in any number of ways. Contact Jen to volunteer with the regular maintenance, or a maintenance day, or financially. As we listened to the recording, we found a few minor corrections. Jen never actually answers Lynn’s question on how many garden beds the volunteers are gardening and harvesting from; it currently is 12. The listing of the organizations who have helped is in the show notes below. Jen also mentions Deb's name (volunteer from The BFCCS), and says her correct name (Deb Schwab) the first time, and then refers to her as Deb Benjamin the second time. Oops, we got you covered Jen (and Deb!) The recording runs just about 18 minutes, so let’s listen to my conversation with Jen and Lynn. -------------- - The Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School - Franklin Federated Church - St. John's Episcopal Church - Franklin United Methodist Church - New England Chapel Jen also considers the Town of Franklin Recreations Dept and the Franklin Agway (https://www.franklinagway.com/) as partners in support and supplies. #JenFerguson discusses selling at the sharp end. Feeding the top of the funnel is one of the most essential functions in sales because it's the #RevenueEngine. It's tough, it's a grind and it's usually the responsibility of some of your most junior and mistakenly undervalued salespeople. Given its importance and its level of difficulty, why is there so little emphasis on high quality training for these frontline salespeople? On developing their broader business acumen? On coaching, lesson capture and collaboration? Churning and burning junior sales staff has long been a problem in #SDR roles. Leadership of SDRs needs to focus on maximising their progress to increase their effectiveness. Too often it's seen as a temporary stepping stone to bigger and better things. Leadership focussing on volume of activity instead of call quality results in burnout, disappointing experiences with buyers who feel like they're being interrupted with little or no value received, and SDRs not understanding why they're doing to make their lives harder than they need to be. The pressure to rush to a premature demo without effective qualification to people who can only say no or maybe is madness. At six years old he dreamt of living abroad. Doing what...it didn't matter. His dream was to travel the world, and live in another country. Did it come true, of course it did! Meet Kuniyoshi Ohtawara. He grew up in Tokyo, and while growing up, he watched in admiration, his close companion and cousin, who is a professional dancer, travel the world for her dancing. This inspired him to want to also get out of Tokyo and explore the world This story is not about traveling abroad per se, it's about how dreams come true. Why is this such an inspiring story?Firstly, This story is about how our calling finds us. Secondly, when we listen to the voice inside us, and we act on it, it leads us to destinations we never imagine, Thirdly, Kuni's beautiful life story shows us that, the journey, teaches us skills which in the end become our life's purpose. Kuniyoshi is a well known sushi chef in his area. People travel far to enjoy a meal at Hokkai Kitchen, or to order from their international fish market. He and his restaurant team attract customers from all over The Netherlands to come to his Kitchen and to be entertained and wowed by the flavours. The Restaurant, Hokkai Kitchen happens to be located, well... in the middle of nowhere, a shipping yard, so as Kuni says in his introduction, he feels he needs to make it worth their while when they come out of their way to his Kitchen. Come join us in this beautiful, calming, open, honest, and inspiring conversation.Want to Visit Hokkai Kitchen, go to https://www.hokkaikitchen.nl Want Inspirational Interviews at your next event / private gathering: Inquire here Want help figuring out your own life story: Contact Jen here
If you have not watched Day 1 please do so now:) #65 day 5 of FREE 30 DAY No diet or exercise weight loss challenge A lot of people struggle with weight. According to Health Data, some 160 million Americans are overweight or obese. According to the Centers For Disease Control, 2/3 of American adults are overweight or obese. Those numbers are depressing. We all gain weight in different ways. Some of us pack on the pounds as we get older, some people gain weight due to a health issue or an injury, while others eat the wrong things. Typically, we diet by eating less. We may exercise more as well, but our weight loss journey revolves entirely around diet and exercise. While that is a big part of weight loss, there is one aspect of it that we overlook. Our thoughts and behaviors play a major role in the challenge. Typically, we fall into a pattern of yo-yo dieting. We lose the weight, drop the diet, gain it back, and the cycle repeats itself ad nauseam. All of these common and unhealthy habits are acts of sabotage and they all come down to your mindset. A positive mindset, one that is pro weight loss will prompt you to make the right decisions, to make healthy choices. A positive mindset will help gear you toward success.
