Q: Who are the best language teachers in the world? A: Parents. Whether they do it consciously or not, parents (and parental figures) are the people who teach us how to speak our first language, from the time we're born, until we start going to school, and beyond. All parents have their failings (some more than others), but passing their language on to their children seems to be one thing that almost every parent succeeds at with flying colors. We may not be able to revert to childhood in order to learn another language, but nor do we have to. The same quality of language learning experience is available to adults too, and with only a fraction of the tears. That's what finding your "language parent" is all about. In the introduction of this episode, I talk about what makes an effective language parent, and then give you a few tips about how to find one so that you can start your "Mandarin childhood."Lesson Outline: [00:20] What makes a good language parent? [06:00] Finding your language parents [08:03] Introduction to the dialogue [08:55] Dialogue (normal speed) [09:41] Slow version (and repeat) [11:42] Useful vocabulary and phrases from the dialogue [15:24] Dialogue again (normal speed)  [16:26] Slow version again (and repeat) Words and phrases from the dialogue, with examples: 緊張 / jǐnzhāng / Nervous 我好緊張 / wǒ hǎo jǐnzhāng / I'm so nervous.  你為什麼緊張?/ nǐ wèishéme jǐnzhāng? / Why are you nervous? 你在緊張什麼?/ nǐ zài jǐnzhāng shénme? / What are you nervous about?  擔心 / dānxīn / To worry, worried. 我很擔心 / wǒ hěn dānxīn / I'm really worried.  我很愛擔心 / wǒ hěn ài dānxīn / I'm a person who loves to worry.   不要擔心 / búyào dānxīn / Don't worry.  乾淨 / gānjìng / Clean 我的家很乾淨 / wǒ de jiā hěn gānjìng / My home is really clean.  我很愛乾淨 / wǒ hěn ài gānjìng / I love cleanliness, or I'm a neat freak.  這是乾淨的嗎?/ zhè shì gānjìng de ma? / Is this clean?  應該 / yīnggāi / Should 應該是吧 / yīnggāi shì ba / That should be, that should be the case.  這應該是乾淨的 / zhè yīnggāi shì gānjìng de / This should be clean.  你不應該這樣說 / nǐ bù yìng gāi zhèyàng shuō / You shouldn't say that.  先 / xiān / First, or often “right away” (“I'm gonna go do this thing right now…”)  我先走了!/ wǒ xiān zǒule! / I'm leaving now.  你先吃吧!/ nǐ xiān chī ba! / You start eating! 那我先回家 / nà wǒ xiān huí jiā / Then I'll go home now. 拿 / ná / To hold, to pick up 我拿,好不好?/ wǒ ná, hǎobù hǎo? / I'll hold it, OK? 這個給你拿 / zhège gěi nǐ ná / You hold this.  不要拿走 / búyào ná zǒu / Don't take this away.  麻煩你了 / Máfan nǐle / Sorry to trouble you 怎麼了? / zěnmele? / What's wrong?  怎麼辦?/ Zěnme bàn? / What should we do?

Today's guest is none other than yours truly, thanks to the creativity and generosity of my guest on episode 38, Natalie Niksa. It was Natalie's idea to turn the mic around, so to speak, and interview me. I was excited about the idea right away. I'm not actually 100% clear on why I was excited, but I try to follow my energy closely, and when excitement shows up, I do my best to pay attention to it and act on it. So I took Natalie up on her offer, and today's episode is the result.   In this conversation, through the lens of my own story, we discuss curiosity as a superpower, recapturing childhood dreams, how to use Mortality as a motivator in daily life, how to address foreboding joy when it shows up, how to use this podcast to get after it in life, my dreams of being a drummer-surfer-documentarian, and more.  Along the way, I'm more open and vulnerable than I've ever been before in any public forum. The emotions at the end of our conversation surprised me. And though I had a bit of a vulnerability hangover after we recorded, I'm glad to share honestly from my story because I know it will be useful and meaningful to someone else out there.  I want to acknowledge Natalie's courage in taking on the role of interviewer. She's a wiz in the culinary world, but the podcast interviewer world is new territory altogether. If you tune in to the full episode, I think you'll agree that she does a great job.   Here is a sampling of highlights from the conversation, organized according to 4 of Natalie's 7 (awesome!) questions and excerpts from my responses.   Q: Share with us a bit of your own process of curiosity and what tools help you remain creatively free to produce what you are sharing with so many? A: For me, curiosity is not a process, it's an innate impulse that, having identified it, I now use as sort of a superpower. I follow my curiosity. My curiosity leads me to good places. My curiosity leads me to people sensing that I have a genuine interest in who they are, and I do. And it leads me to ask whatever question comes up next, which when I am myself, I do well. When I'm in my head I don't do it very well--I get kind of clutchy and clinchy. When I let my curiosity guide me, it goes to good places, whether it's in my personal life or professional life...So the process, if there is any, is to major on it... Curiosity creates dialog, and dialog tends to generate insight, and insight is a precursor to transformation. So curiosity is maybe the catalyst that allows some of that to occur. And of course it works really well for me in my chosen path professionally, and relationally as well...   Q: What dreams are you recapturing lately? A: Childlikeness...It's a very personal journey, too, because when Anxiety became debilitating in my early 20s...it was maybe the final nail in the coffin at that point in my life of childlikeness because it became a desperate struggle to stay alive because the Anxiety was so bad that I did at one point say in my mind if this doesn't stop soon, then I can't live any longer. Jordan Peterson talks about...new things showing up in our lives unexpectedly--especially ones that are unwelcome--is an intense and difficult form of chaos to deal with. And it deconstructs the whole framework we had put in place to understand how we navigate life. And that's what happened to me when Anxiety showed up because I literally thought I was going to die any moment. And so it really put the final nail in the coffin of childlikeness for a time... And as I've first done battle with the anxiety and then, more recently, accepted it and allowed it to come along, I have begun to really attempt to recapture childlikeness and to learn to want things with abandon and without judgment or censorship… I still feel as if the real Andrew isn't known yet to me and to the world, and the parts of the real Andrew that are within me that aren't yet made known to the world are the drummer, the surfer, the guitar player, the artist, the documentarian...Those are all dreams that capture my imagination, and I can inhabit those dreams in my heart and my mind and see myself living that way and it feels like me. So there are ways in which the life that I currently live in some ways still doesn't feel quite like me. But that isn't the same as to say that I'm living an inauthentic or counterfeit life because I think the process of putting ourselves together over the course of our adulthood--if we're willing to become more and more consciously engaged in it--is to uncover who we truly are...   Q: What are a few ways that you consciously and perhaps even uncomfortably use mortality as a motivator on a daily and/or weekly basis? A: I do live with awareness of mortality most days, but it's not for the reasons you might suspect. That's largely derived from the kind of anxiety that I experience. So the awareness of Death comes part and parcel with the kind of anxiety I more typically experience than others. And that's actually, again, part of why this podcast exists, part of why the Graveyard Group masterminds exist is because my hyper-awareness of mortality led me to believe that maybe there are others who don't think about it enough and in thinking about it more would find greater freedom to become the people they were made to be and live the lives they were made to live. And it turns out, it works that way... As I've engaged in this practice of the podcast and the Graveyard Group, [I've learned that] you can approximate the pressure of a crisis...through intentional practice. The way it translates into my own life is in decision-making--am I gonna do this or that. Maybe it's about am I gonna spend another half hour working on my computer or am I gonna take a walk, because my son just came in and asked if I wanted to go on a hike. It's not as if every time I'll choose to go on a walk with my son because there's a time for work and a time for play, but I at least pause more than I think I might have in the past and ask myself, when I'm that elderly gentleman, for example, in the retirement community and I'm thinking about the way I spent my time, what will I remember most? And it's gonna be the walks with my son, it's not gonna be the extra half-hour on my computer. It's not gonna be what I accomplish professionally. It's gonna be the quality of the relationships I made and the investments I made in them. It's going to be the courage with which I lived my life. So that's another way that it informs me... I've been on a new professional journey for 5 or 6 years now, and it's been tremendously challenging, and it still is tremendously challenging. And when I sometimes want to throw in the towel or question myself too much, I do play the tape forward and from that old man vantage point look back and go, "Petty, how do you want to have lived this portion of your life?" And every time I ask myself that question, I go, "I want to remember myself as courageous, all-in, and just going for it--whatever that meant in that moment"...   Q: Brene Brown discusses “Foreboding Joy.” This feeling of, ‘ uh, oh. This feels too good, something bad must be around the corner' What sort of questions would you ask one of your clients who might be experiencing this? A: Foreboding joy is certainly a thing, and there are a lot of sources for it. Sometimes foreboding joy comes from people's story, because often it WAS too good to be true. And so it's important in my opinion not to dismiss anything that someone would bring up because if they brought it up it's important to them. But it's also important not to dismiss that as a lack of courage or the presence of timidity because foreboding joy can be real for someone, because maybe in their childhood good things were promised to them and then regularly not delivered upon. So they don't know what to count on, what is solid, what is real, what can I actually hope for and go for...  When I was about to get married to my wonderful wife, Charis, I was in many ways a wreck because I was afraid I was making a mistake, not because of her...but because I was always afraid that I was making mistakes. I was afraid to strike out on my own. And this was the biggest striking out on my own that I had ever undertaken, and I was kind of wrapped around the axle about it. And in my mind's eye, I had this vivid vision of me as a little boy--this didn't actually occur, but it was as if it had--running, pumping my fists as hard as I could and running as hard as I could and looking over my shoulder and asking my dad, "is this ok, is this ok?" So there was an element deep within me of suspicion that it was ok to make choices on my own and to pursue and break away and live the life that I wanted to live. And that's just been part and parcel of the putting back together that I've had to do as an adult is to continue to affirm that yes, it is ok to strike out, it is ok to pave your own way, it is ok to use the sweeping permission of adulthood to become who you'd like to be...  All that to say that foreboding joy is not to be taken lightly, and also it sometimes is a representation of Resistance, which is a word that I borrow from Stephen Pressfield, capital R Resistance, that shows up almost the very moment we decide to do something that #1 is exciting to us and is in some way more vulnerable and more exposing of our real dreams and desires than something has been before. So it can be a clever way of our psychology tricking us into not taking the next step...   Q: Who would you be and what becomes available in the absence of all your concerns? (a Peter Crone question) I think I'd be quite a bit more fun than I often am. I think my family finds me to be fun and occasionally others find me to be fun. But because of the complexity of my psychology--and I'm not saying that my psychology is any more complex than anyone else's--but just the complexity I find in my own psychology and relating to myself and the anxiety I experience, it can limit my availability. It limits the availability of the Andrew within because there's a multi-tasking occurring. So, when you say "without my concerns," I immediately think without the presence of anxiety just sort of lurking and doing what it does, which is compromise me. It takes resources away that would otherwise be available. I think I'd be more carefree, I'd be more fun, I'd be sillier more often. I would be less careful. I would trust myself more completely. I would trust that I've got this, I can do it. That's a common thing for me, to not trust that I've got it or can do it.  (re: what would be more available) The thing that strikes me most is the silliness, the childlikeness, the carefreeness that occasionally I experience and very often I don't. That's sad to me, and I grieve that actually, and want very badly to make more of that available for my own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others. I have a good sense of humor when it's available. I have a quick wit when it's available. Those that are closest to me know it best and others don't. And also, I think there would be more drumming, more surfing, more documentary creation. It's one of the pains of being a solopreneur trying to do stuff on my own and having more ideas than I'm able to execute on. And so one of my deep longings is to figure out how to assemble a team with me and around me who can bring to life more of the ideas and creativity that I have--and not only that I have but complement and supplement what I have to make it something even better… Without the concern that literally consumes hours of resources just in the management of it--because there's a cycle for me of darkness and light, darkness and light, shrinking and expanding, shrinking and expanding. I think many can relate to that on some level. It's just an especially painful and compromising cycle for me. And maybe folks like me who work on their own and create on their own experience that more than others. I think Stephen Pressfield would certainly say that's the case. It's part of the artist's journey. And I think I am an artist and a creative person at heart, more than maybe just about anything else...   Tune in to the full episode for the whole conversation, including my answers to Natalie's other 3 questions: Your professional landscape is an ecosystem of sorts. Would you explain this process a bit of how one feeds the other and vice versa. Where would you suggest people to start in terms of getting after their life and living the way they are meant to live today? How would you like to be remembered? (This was the emotional part for me!)   Let the 95-year-old You Weigh In Insight + Action = Transformation. It's a simple formula for human change. Put it to work in your own life right now. What's one insight you gained about yourself from this episode? What's one thing you'd be willing to do with that insight today, before the magical window of opportunity closes?  Imagine yourself at 95, rocking on the porch of your final home, reflecting on the life you've lived--aware that Mortality is no longer just an abstraction but a very present reality. And imagine that from the moment you listened to this episode until that day on your porch, you committed to taking courageous and decisive action whenever you gained a new insight. And imagine that all those individual actions conspired over time to create a life you are immensely proud of with few if any lingering regrets. What does that feel like? How badly do you want that future?  Now, imagine the opposite scenario. Instead of taking courageous and decisive action, you may have reveled in the insights but shrunk away when the moment of action came. Your life's story is riddled with what could have been, unfulfilled dreams, and half-hearted desires. Relationships suffered when you avoided the hard conversations or decided to bang out more emails, and who you could have been will now never really be known. What does that future feel like? How badly do you want to avoid that future?  Those are two extremes to make the point, but there's a point to be made here nonetheless. TODAY is the day. Tomorrow never comes, but Death most certainly does.  Let the inevitability of your Mortality fill your sails with wind and your hearts with courage to be who you were made to be and live the life you were made to live.    Remember, you ARE going to die. But you're not dead yet. Both Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are books of wisdom.   Date: July 11, 2021 Questions in this episode Q: How can we apply this verse in our daily lives? How easy is it to give a gentle answer when we are rightfully upset, have been wronged, or abused? Q: The Book of Proverbs provides many words of wisdom like the ones expressed in this verse. Judging from the way we behave, act in church, and during board meetings, it's safe to assume that many church members and leaders are unfamiliar with the Book of Proverbs. Why is it rarely preached about? Why do preachers focus more on certain Bible books but tend to neglect others? Q: Can you please explain this verse? How does it relate to “[t]he fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10 NIV.) What's the difference between wisdom and knowledge? What does it mean that “[t]he fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”? Q: Is this always true? Does this verse apply to the 80-year old murderer who's serving a life-prison sentence? Q: What is a fool according to the Bible? Q: We often acquit the guilty through good lawyering. Should Christians become lawyers, defend “the guilty,” and fiercely advocate for them? Isn't it what Jesus did for us when he died on the cross although we were guilty and deserved death? Q: Is it wrong for a man to remain single? Do the single receive God's favor? Q: Does this verse suggest that being rich is a bad thing? Q: What does the fear of the Lord mean? Should we be afraid of God? Q: Does the Book of Proverbs promote violence? Q: What about babies? What standards are they judged by? Is there an age when we start to sin? Will all babies go to heaven? Q: Why? Please explain this verse. Q: Can you summarize the 30 sayings of the wise man (Proverbs 22- 24)? Q: Who was Agur (Proverbs 31)? Q: Women are often demeaned in the Bible. How significant it is that the Book of Proverbs ends with the description of the “Wife of a Noble Character”(Proverbs 31)? Q: The Book of Psalms is a compilation of songs. The Book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom. What do we know about the Book of Ecclesiastes? What's the best way to describe it? Q: How can the dead be happier than the living? What a privilege to Celebrate the Resurrection of our Saviour King Jesus. It’s the greatest day in History - The day the power of ALL sin for ALL time was dealt with. The very foundation of our Faith. There is no one else who can forgive sin and free us from the power of sin only Jesus. Jesus Died carrying the weight of our sin upon himself conquering it forever. His blood shed for us that washes us spotless and Blameless, made righteous by putting our faith in him and asking him into our lives. He was raised to life - Philippians 2:6-11Romans 8:32-39It was because of love that he went to the cross for us and Paul confirms that nothing can separate us from that love.Q Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?Q Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own?A No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.Q Who then will condemn us?A No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honour at God’s right hand, pleading for us.Q Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?A (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. This week an old song has been on my mind and in it there's an invitation to look at Jesus.Turn your eyes upon JesusLook full, in his wonderful faceAnd the things of earth will grow strangely dimIn the light of his glory and graceRomans 8 tells us of what has been accomplished for us by Jesus Death and Resurrection. Because he loved you and me whether you already know God or Not. Jesus chose to do this, no one took his life from him he gave it up freely that you might have life like this. The invitation is simple: Turn your eyes upon Jesus . Look Full into his wonderful face - We can do this without any shame, guilt or fear He will not Judge usHe will not Accuse us He will not Condemn usHe will not turn his face away from usHe will receive usHe will forgive usHe will cleanse us from our sinHe will lavish us with love & graceHe will Affirm us as Children of God. He will hide us in the Shadow of his wing.and so much more  Have you been distracted from looking upon the face of Jesus by other things? What’s stopping you today from looking at Jesus? When John encountered Jesus in Revelation, here’s how he described him - Revelation 1:9, 12-16 Conclusion Andrew Wilson - Incomparable - P196 Jesus Shines.I Can Only Imagine - MercyMeI can only imagineWhat it will be likeWhen I walk by your sideI can only imagineWhat my eyes would seeWhen your face is before meI can only imagineI can only imagine, yeahI can only imagineWhen that day comesAnd I find myselfStanding in the sunI can only imagineWhen all I will doIs forever, forever worship youI can only imagineQuestions• How do we see Jesus?• What is our response to Jesus today?• Are the things of earth clouding your view and understanding of Jesus?• Are you experiencing his Glory

Meant to be a love interest for Geordi LaForge, things didn't work out for Ensign Gomez after spilling her hot chocolate on Captain Picard. Lycia tells us the behind-the-scenes story about what happened to her character and what happened to the third episode she was meant to appear in that would have changed Geordi's character. This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: During the COVID Pandemic, how are you listening to Priority One Podcast? AND CQ: What was your favorite Season 2 Short Trek? Which was your least favorite? AND CQ: If you could cast David Tennant in any role in Star Trek, which role would it be? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Alex Kurtzman Talks Short Treks As the idiom goes - “Good things come in small packages”. Jewelry boxes - small. Puppies - small. Priority One Producer - small. Emmy nominated Star Trek program - small - or more precisely, Short.  This week, Star Trek Admiral Alex Kurtzman sat down with Deadline Senior Editor and Chief TV Critic Dominic Patten to talk about the Emmy nominated Short Treks “The Girl Who Made the Stars” and “Q&A”. In general, what Kurtzman likes about Short Treks is the series ability to explore things that would otherwise go unseen in the Star Trek multiverse - sometimes using different mediums. With regards to the animated “The Girl Who Made The Stars”, Kurtzman wanted to take the opportunity to emulate another animation house - Pixar. Talking about “Q&A”, Kurtzman pointed out his love of “Waiting for Godot” and Hitchcock's “Rope” and “Lifeboat”, citing the limited sets and how that challenge has the opportunity to ramp up the drama. He then told an interesting story about Picard Season 1 showrunner Michael Chabon, the writer of “Q&A” Finally, Kurtzman talked about the challenges of making Short Treks, as well as what's to come in future seasons. We'll of course have the full video in our show notes, so be sure to trek it out! Screenshot Courtesy of Deadline Then Kurtzman Talks Strange New Worlds! During Kurtzman's sit-down with Dominic Patton on Deadlines “Contenders Television: The Nominees”, the conversation shifted from the Short Trek “Q&A” to the highly-anticipated “Strange New Worlds”. For those that don't remember, “Strange New Worlds” is the recently announced live-action series that will focus on Anson Mount's Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck's Mr. Spock, and Rebecca Romijn's Number One aboard the Enterprise, pre-Kirk. The bad news is that Kurtzman didn't talk long about the upcoming series - but if we've learned anything from the previous segment, content doesn't necessarily have to be long to be good! Kurtzman minced NO words when he gave a synopsis of the show - and may we just say...SQUEEEEE!!!! And one more time for the people in the back - SQUUUEEEE!!!! Excuse me. Kurtzman then spoke to Pike and the crew's optimism, and how Pike's trauma could open interesting story-telling doors for the series. Watch Short Trek Season 2 for Free! If you haven't seen any “so-called” NuTrek - that is to say any Star Trek launched on CBS All Access - and you are feeling a little left out, then we may have some good news. As a “For Your Consideration” Emmy push, CBS has made its entire second season of Short Treks available - absolutely free! Reported by CNET, who's parent company is ViacomCBS, the second season is free to view on CBS.com and youtube and includes “Q&A”, “The Trouble With Edward”, “Ask Not”, “Ephraim and Dot”, “The Girl Who Made the Stars”, and “Children of Mars”. We'll link the Youtube videos to our show notes, so you can give them a watch from the comfort of Priority One Podcast.com! But don't wait, you'll only have access to the episodes until August 31st! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j6s_zfgv4c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx0Eg5NvDbw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHAEBJ7xKv4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72w6-qP0Ve0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGOsa4Ojiss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hot0uT8c3ys David Tennant Wants A Shot At Trek Star Trek, in the United States particularly, is one of the founding fathers of nerd-pop culture. Even if you haven't seen an episode of the original series, you probably know who Spock is or that Scotty will beam you up. In England, the same is likely true, but there is a franchise even older - even more popular than Trek - WHO knows what it is? Doctor Who, of course. The series which first aired in 1963, three years before Star Trek, follows the adventures of a rogue time lord - known as the Doctor - and his companions. They travel through space and time using the TARDIS, a blue police box that was common in England in the mid-60's. So why are we talking about Doctor Who on our Star Trek podcast? Because the tenth Doctor, and one of the most popular, wants a go at Trek. In a Reddit AMA thread, David Tennant - who played the tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010 - was asked which franchise he would most like to “Cross off his acting bucket list, Tennant responded ”Star Trek would be great. After talking to George Takei for the podcast I've got a bit immersed in it.”. According to SyFy.com, the podcast Tennant was referring to was “David Tennant Does A Podcast With....”.   There were several suggestions on who the former Who should play, but Trelane and Q both received quite a bit of Buzz. Q would be apropos, as SyFy points out. The Borg - which were introduced in the episode “Q Who” - were based on Doctor Who's Cybermen. Photo Courtesy of SyFy.com Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Timelines: “Plateau of Tomorrow” From Thursday, August 20th to Monday, August 24th, Star Trek Timelines plumbs the darkest depths of the 20th century with the “Plateau of Tomorrow” Faction Event for the Dominion, Terran and Klingon Empires. The second part of The Capitoline Wolf story, this event features the new 5-star "Brigitte" Torres, 5-star Alicia Travers, returning 4-star Incognito Kirk, and recurring 5-star Humanoid Figure event crew. Equally new is the 5-star Aenar Jhamel faction reward, which will feature in the following week's “Whistles and Canaries” Galaxy Event. Star Trek Adventures: It's Good to Be Bad There are no villains who don't have their reasons, said Mr. Welles–and now, there are eight fewer villains who don't have stats either. The latest release for Modiphius Entertainment's Star Trek Adventures, “Iconic Villains,” turns eight of Trek's most celebrated baddies into fully playable non-player characters. The 15-page PDF-only document sells for US$5.22 for your tabletop gaming needs, and the accompanying miniatures set will set you back US$52.34 once Modiphius has more of them to sell. However one of the featured foes is none other than Q himself, which makes us wonder: what does God need with a stat block? Check-Out Time for Trexels II If you've been interested in developer YesGnome's Trexels II mobile game, but never got around to playing it, you have until the end of this month to get it in gear. On August 14th, YesGnome announced on Facebook that “the time has come...to part ways.” Trexels II will no longer be available on the Google Play or Apple App Stores as of September 1st, but it is not going away entirely. The game servers will still be maintained after that date “until further notice.”

Equally new is the 5-star Aenar Jhamel faction reward, which will feature in the following week’s “Whistles and Canaries” Galaxy Event. Star Trek Adventures: It’s Good to Be Bad There are no villains who don’t have their reasons, said Mr. Welles–and now, there are eight fewer villains who don’t have stats either. The latest release for Modiphius Entertainment’s Star Trek Adventures, “Iconic Villains,” turns eight of Trek’s most celebrated baddies into fully playable non-player characters. Check-Out Time for Trexels II If you’ve been interested in developer YesGnome's Trexels II mobile game, but never got around to playing it, you have until the end of this month to get it in gear. On August 14th, YesGnome announced on Facebook that “the time has come...to part ways.” Trexels II will no longer be available on the Google Play or Apple App Stores as of September 1st, but it is not going away entirely. The game servers will still be maintained after that date “until further notice.”

Check out her website: www.rentwisepm.com Courtney's Fun Facts: Q: What was your first word? A: Uhhhhhh, no idea, your going to have to ask Mom but if I had to guess it would have been a cuss word, it feels pretty natural Q: What was your nickname as a child? A: I remember people telling me I looked like punky bruster but I didn't really have a nickname. Unless you called me things behind my back. lol Q: What was your imaginary friend's name and a description of them? A: I didn't need an imaginary friend growing up, I had a big sister. :) Q: Who is your favorite celebrity and why? A: I don't pick favorites of anything, and I don't really care about celebrities. People are just people, some are on TV, some work at coffee shops. Q: What was your most embarrassing moment? A: Oh god, there is no way to narrow this down. My life is a series of awkward moments. Honestly I have the worst memory so it's probably a defense mechanism that I don't remember anything too traumatizing. Q: Favorite food? A: No favorites, I like all the foods. I particularly like peanut M&M's, Ahoy chocolate chip cookies, chedder cheese combos, beef jerky, pretty much anything you can buy at a gas station that has a "may cause significant health issues" warning on it. Q: Most disgusting food? A: I don't like slimy foods, anything that makes a mushy sound with you eat it is not for me. Q: Do you sleep on your... A: Side Q: Which superpower would you want to have and why? A: ooooo, flight? ya, let's go with that. Q: What is your greatest fear? A: Well we come from a family that isn't scared of much but I don't like dark water, it freaks me out in every way possible. Q: What is your biggest dream? A: To live the simplest life I can with the most understanding I am capable of. And to have a highland cow as a pet. Q: What is your stance on pineapple on pizza? A: I'm fine with it, I don't understand the issue. I just eat the pineapple first, then the pizza. Q: If you were a flower, which one would you be? A: Oh goodness I can not pick just one. Peonies are some of my most loved flowers but earwigs also like them so I have mixed feelings because earwigs are gross. So maybe a Zania or virtually any kind of Rose. Q: In a zombie apocalypse, what is your weapon of choice? A: I plan to be one of the first to go honestly. Q: If you had 10 dogs and someone took one, how many dogs would you have left? A: 10 dogs & 1 dead body Q: If you had to wear a disclaimer statement everywhere you went, what would it say? A: Do not put me on speaker phone! Q: If you were losing your hair, would you transplant or comb over? A: I would rock the baldness, I'm sure I have a nice shaped head under all this hair. Thank you so much for joining us today! Juleyka Lantigua-Williams shares her strategy for audience growth and how it's put her shows on the path to reach 1 million downloads by the end of the year. Here's what I learned in this episode: Audience growth isn't something that magically happens once you start publishing episodes. If you want to grow your audience and get more listeners and fans, there's three important questions to ask yourself. These questions are important regardless of how long you've been podcasting. The three questions are:1. Who is the ideal listener for my show?2. What needs do they have that I'm trying to address and fulfill with my show?3. Where is my ideal listener spending their time and attention, and what's my plan for getting their attention?•••Juleyka Lantigua-Williams is the founder of Lantigua Williams & Co, an audio production company. She describes her role as building teams that make podcasts and films. So a little more about Juleyka:Juleyka is the Founder/CEO of Lantigua Williams & Co., an award-winning and Peabody-nominated digital media studio that builds teams that create beautiful experiences in digital audio and film. She is a journalism veteran with 20 years of experience as a writer, reporter, editor, syndicated columnist, book editor/scout, lecturer, and audio producer. Lantigua Williams & Co. produces original shows like Latina to Latina, 70 Million, and Feeling My Flo, and provides tailored consulting and white-label production services for clients that include Macmillan Podcasts, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, WHYY, KQED, and Civil Beat.Juleyka says she first fell in love with podcasts after hearing Serial. After devouring that show, she became fascinated with the way story-telling techniques were being used in audio. She got the chance to work on Code Switch at NPR, and fell in love with the process of making podcasts.I met Juleyka last year when Lantigua Williams & Co started using Simplecast for hosting. After several interesting and insightful conversations about podcasting, I asked her if she would be willing to be a guest on my show to talk more about her approach to audience acquisition.Couple quick things to mention before we get into the interview:First, Juleyka is hosting a series of webinars about working in podcasting she's calling Podcasting Seriously. If you're interested in getting into working in the podcast industry, or if you'd like to take your podcasting skills to the next level, I'd encourage you to check it out and sign up. Visit https://www.podcastingseriously.com/ to learn more.Second, we recorded this interview using Squadcast, which dropped the call multiple times. Kind of a bummer, but that's how it goes sometimes. Next time I'll be sure to record locally as well. Luckily I was able to edit the show in a way that the drops aren't noticeable.Alright, let's get into my conversation about audience acquisition (and more) with Juleyka Lantigua-Williams.Tip #1 for Audience Growth: Know as much about your ideal listener as possible without violating their privacy.Q: Who is the ideal listener for your show? If you're like me, you might answer that question with something slightly vague, like, ”My ideal listener is someone who is interested in making a great podcast.”That's a decent start, but let's dig deeper. Let's get specific. So where do you start? What are the fundamentals? So many people start podcasting before they've identified their show's number one biggest fan. You've probably heard about creating for an ideal listener before, but Juleyka takes the idea to the next level.Juleyka looks for factual evidence for what she believes is true about her ideal listener, who even has a name and a face (check out the website).Things you should know about your ideal listener:AgeEducation levelCareer levelRelationship statusFamily infoWhere she livesDigital experience habitsHobbiesPurchasing habitsHow many other people like her are there?Juleyka's ideal listener even has a name: Kenya. Why this matters: Knowing your ideal listener gives you a target. It will help guide your decisions as you're planning out your content and pitching the show to advertisers. If you're thinking about starting a show, answer this question:"Will my ideal listener listen to this show?"If you know that she will listen, then pursue the idea.Tip #2 for Audience Growth: Meet the needs of your ideal listener.Once you've figured out who your ideal listener is, start thinking about what their needs are. What podcasts do they listen to and why? What are their needs? How can you make something that addresses those needs? These can be difficult questions to answer, but if you know a few people who match the profile of your ideal listener, you should ask them which podcasts they listen to, and why. I think you'll find the answers interesting and thought-provoking.Tip #3 for Audience Growth: Once you know who your ideal listener is, go where they are."Once you know who she is, you need to figure out where she is and go there. Where is she? How can I take the show to her?""Where is your ideal listener spending their time and attention?Don't wait for them to discover you. Take the show to them.Juleyka mentioned looking for consumer data about her ideal listener, which is something I've never really looked into getting before. I didn't get a chance to ask her for more details, but here's a link I found on Google that might be a good place to start: Where Can You Buy Big Data? We’re less than one week away from Super Tuesday!  In today’s episode, Sara and Misasha talk about why the primaries are so important and why your vote matters, especially this election year! They will also cover what the deal is with Super Tuesday, what happened in Iowa and why that matters, and take a look at what the primaries really mean for our Presidential election. Listen and learn during this informative Q&A session laced with Sara and Misasha’s punchy commentary! Show Highlights: Q: When does primary season begin and how long is it? A: Voting began February 3rd with the Iowa caucuses. The last states vote in early June. Primary season lasts approximately 4 months.   Q: Who will I be voting for in the primaries? A: The primaries are the main event. Candidates for the Democratic and Republican 2020 Presidential nominations, but voters will find all manner of down-ballot elections to consider on primary day. Down ballot means everything that is not the Presidential nomination, including house and senate races, and seats on the state legislature.   Q: What’s the difference between primaries and caucuses? A: Primaries are relatively straight-forward. Voters vote and their vote goes to candidates who hope they get more votes than the other candidates. Caucuses, like Iowa, are similar. Generally, supporters for various candidates sit or stand together in groups. A headcount is conducted, and if a candidate doesn’t reach a certain threshold of support, the group is deemed non-viable and its members re-align with other clusters before a final count is made.    Q: Can states actually cancel their primaries? A: Yes, they can and some states did this year. Alaska, Nevada, Kansas, Virginia, Arizona, South Carolina, and Hawaii canceled the Republican primaries only.   Q: Is there a Republican Presidential primary and opponents running against President Trump? A: Yes. In most states, President Trump’s opponents include Joe Walsh, a former Illinois congressman and William F. Weld, a former Massachusetts Governor.   Q: Can you vote in both the Democratic and Republican primary? A: It’s just one vote, per person. In some states with “Closed primaries”, you’ll need to be registered with a given party to participate.   Q: Can Trump be re-elected President even after getting impeached by the House? A: That is his plan. President Trump is the first impeached President ever to seek re-election.   Q: Why do we keep hearing that Iowa is so important? A: Iowa goes first and has since the 1970s. There’s really no great reason why Iowa goes first, although some of the Vietnam war protests and racial tensions of the 1968 Democratic convention helped set the stage.    Q: What is Super Tuesday? A: Super Tuesday is March 3rd, and is the single most important day on the primary calendar because of how many major states will be holding their elections, including two very large states, California and Texas. About 40% of all pledged Democratic delegates will be awarded in these states. Misasha goes into greater detail here about how the delegate fight gets more serious!   Q: When did Super Tuesday become a thing? A: Voting on that day of the week is an old tradition in the United States, but it wasn’t until the 1976 election that was credited with leading to the first recorded usage of that particular phrase. Sara shares the backstory of the when and the why!   Q: How does someone win the Democratic nomination? A:  A candidate hoping to win on the first ballot at the convention must secure a majority of pledged delegates, as dictated by the outcomes in state primaries and caucuses. In total, there are just under 4,000 pledged delegates up for grabs, as well as hundreds of super delegates, though the party prefers to call them “automatic” delegates. The official nomination will take place at the party’s convention in Milwaukee this summer.   Q: What are delegates? A: There are two different types. Delegates, “the people”, are like political figures: activists and local leaders chosen to represent their states at the party’s convention. Delegates, “the numbers”, are the all-purpose metric of primary success. They are allocated proportionately according to the state voting results and their population.   Q: What are super delegates? Didn’t they get rid of those? A: Democratic super delegates are political insiders. They can be sitting lawmakers to former senior party officials whose primary choices can be divorced entirely from the preference of the average voter. Super delegates can vote as they choose and their very existence in 2016 became a source of major tension in the race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. While Mrs. Clinton bested Mr. Sanders among pledged delegates in 2016, Mr. Sanders and his supporters saw the super delegates system as an affront to the democratic process. In response, the Democratic National Committee has sharply reduced the influence of super delegates, effectively preventing them from participating in a substantial way in the first ballot of a Presidential nominee process.     Q: Are there any history makers in the Presidential election? A: Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Klobuchar, or Representative Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii would be the first woman elected President. Mr. Buttigieg would be the first openly-gay President to hold the office, and Mr. Sanders or Mr. Bloomberg would be the first Jewish President elected. A few of them would also be the oldest President ever inaugurated for a first term.   Q: Which party has done better at fund-raising so far? A: Trump entered 2020 with more than 100 million dollars in cash on hand, and he outpaced every Democrat with 46 million in the 4th quarter of 2019. But, contenders for the Democratic nomination have accusatively surpassed Trump’s totals, suggesting pretty good enthusiasm.   Q: Does my vote in the primaries matter? A: YES!! Although the piecemeal nature of the state-by-state calendar might make the process seem less exciting, the primaries really do resolve the nontrivial matter of choosing major party nominees and also all of the down-ballot stuff.   Q: Is it ok for me to skip voting in the primaries and just vote in the general election? A: It’s allowed, of course. But the down-ballot primaries will be of significant consequence locally in many states and those are the feeder systems for our future. So it’s incredibly important to vote, especially all the way down the ballot and not just in the main event.   Q: Do I need to be registered to vote in the primaries? A: Yes! 49 states require voter registration. North Dakota is the only state that does not require it. Deadlines for registering in your state can be found at the U.S. Vote Foundation.   Q: Do I need a government-issued ID? A: These requirements can vary by state and can be found at NCSL.   Q: What if I was removed in a voter purge? A: You can check your status at Vote.org.   Listen to the podcast for more Q&A regarding voting over the internet, those interfering Russians, Trump’s chances of re-election, how trustworthy the polls are, if we are going to be ok, and when this will be all over. Episode 016 – Unleashing the Power of Happiness – Interview with Christina Unrein, Professional Happiness Coach Christina’s goal is to have people find their own happiness, and get to it a little bit faster on their own! Q – Who is your ideal client? A – People who are a little weird, with quirks, people who want to be themselves, and also the workaholics and people pleasers. Also I like working with people who want to be courageous and like to be with themselves – no matter what that looks like. Happiness is a Continuous Choice. We have to stick with it! Q – What experiences have you had at Trade Shows? A – I’ve experienced just about every situation there is at shows. Being an exhibitor behind the booth, in front of the booth, walking around shows, and more. Q – Do you see Happiness missing at Trade Shows? A – I believe it has to be intentional for it to show up. It can’t be forced. You shouldn’t say, “We’ll just play music or have an ice cream social.” It has to be intentional for the attendees. Should create a more personal environment rather than a “salesy” environment. But its rare, especially in business because people are so focused on the results – getting badges scanned or business cards. Rarely do people create an environment to just have conversations – but in reality that is where happiness naturally comes out. Q – How do you create the right environment for happiness? Especially in industries that are more “serious” like medical, legal, insurance, etc.? A – Think about your audience and how overwhelmed they are. What are they experiencing at the show – long days, bad food choices, etc.  Now think about what would give them energy and what would make them curious. Then let them care about what they care about. Let them tell you by asking them questions. Get curious about them! Ask them how best you can support them, because the answer might not be you! It might be you connecting them with someone else at the show.  Be a Servant! Find out how you can help them, and they will remember it and may even refer others to you because you made them happier in some way. Q – How do you get past the “I’m here to work, I’m here for my company, and I’m here to get results” mindset? A – Start thinking I’m here to have fun, to meet people and add quality and energy to their lives. I’m here to learn and to grow. There’s all sorts of ways to change your mindset and to be intentional.  One thing is to be Authentic so people get a good idea of who you really are. Also – be curious! And if the show is slow, meet the people in the other booths and find out how you can add value to them. You already know what you know. Give yourself a chance to learn from others by being curious, asking questions, and then being silent to hear what they have to say. Q – Tell us about your book! A – The book is titled – The Happiness Workbook: Rise Up Happiness Soldiers!  LINK:  (https://www.amazon.com/Happiness-Workbook-Rise-Up-Soldiers-ebook/dp/B074CPNQGL) NOTE: You can get the Kindle version for FREE!! One thing to know – I don’t like writing! So instead of copy heavy, it has a lot of exercises. I took the concept in each short chapter and tried to apply it in the 5 ways most people learn: (1) By doodling, drawing or creating. (2) By movement. (3) By visualizing. (4) By speaking aloud. (5) By tearing the concept apart and rebuilding it.  You can do as much or whatever you want, in whatever order you want. Q – What do you say to those who are more reserved or intimidated by approaching others? A – Identify things that you enjoy or bring you happiness. For those who enjoy working with their hands or building things, Choose to bring those types of things into your booth and you...

That story, “Balance of Terror,” aired on December 15, 1966, and delivered an Original Series statement on racism and honor. It also established one of the Federation’s oldest enemies. More than 22 years later, on May 8, 1989, another enemy—the Borg—made its first appearance in the second-season Next Generation episode “Q Who.” Now, some 31 years after that, the two have come together to form the central plot of Star Trek: Picard. In this episode of The Line, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Justin Oser, and Chrissie De Clerck-Szilagyi discuss the second episode of Star Trek: Picard “Maps and Legends,” as we explore Romulan culture and the Artifact—a derelict Borg cube that has been severed from the Collective and turned into a Romulan reclamation facility. We also talk about the attack on Mars, Picard’s tense meeting with Admiral Clancy, the relationship between Narek and Soji, just what Commodore Oh is up to, and our predictions for upcoming episodes. First Contacts in TNG. To communicate with new life and new civilizations through first contact is one of the primary missions of a Starfleet crew and the crews of the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E are no exception. The first contacts that we see rarely seem to be easy, whether with space-faring jellyfish, subspace aliens kidnapping the crew, or the malevolent collective consciousness of the Borg, but it does make for a great discussion topic. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Joe Keegan and Justin Oser are joined by guest April Taylor to talk about first contacts in The Next Generation and what they tell us about one of Starfleet's most important missions. The discussion includes the episodes "Encounter at Farpoint," "Pen Pals," "Q Who," "Who Watches The Watchers," "First Contact," "Schisms," and "Phantasms" as well as the movie First Contact.
