All the way back in 1985 prolific horror writer Stephen King was asked by the infamous Dino De Laurentiis to direct a movie based on a short story he wrote back in the 70's called Trucks. In 1986 after production issues, major substance abuse by King and a wild ride for the cast and crew involved we got MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE. Lets crank up some AC/DC, crack open a Miller and hunker down at the Dixie Boy as we tell them trucks WE MADE YOU! with special guest Patrick O'Riley of the amazing Vintage Video Podcast, this week on the DISSECT THAT FILM PODCAST: S2 E21. #MovieReview #DissectThatFilm #maximumoverdrive #stephenking Promo: @VintageVideoPod Check out Patrick and Vintage Video Podcast: https://linktr.ee/vintagevideopod INTRO BY JASON OF BINGE MOVIES Track: Infraction- A.I. Welcome to the start of Halloween month! What better way to start than being attacked by machines that have come to life? “You can't! We made you!” Bill (Emilio Estevez) is just a short order cook working for Bubba (Pat Hingle) at the Dixie Boy when he's called to become a hero. This hero is mainly hooking up Brett (Laura Harrington) and figuring out how to survive. And, this is Estevez's third movie with us! Did you know there was a UFO in this story? Did you know this was the only film directed by Stephen King? Yeardley Smith is here! AC/DC is going to rock your face off! RTS will be hiding out in the arcade with the guy from Breaking Bad during much of this. La-Mar launches many-a-rocket towards the machines! Ryan makes his Rabbit Troop Sucks debut, and he is representing Fiction Beer Company. He graciously brings us beer goodies and discusses the brew as we view. Make sure to try their Sweet Sedition of Magic (Pumpkin Amber with spices) and MAV – Oktoberfest all month long. We will be! Taste the fall! Hide from the diffuse tail of Rhea-M.
In this episode, the Refuse Royalty explore what happens when a director, hopped up on too much cocaine, decides to tell a tale of sentient technology: Maximum Overdrive. When Earth passes through the tail of Rea-M rogue comet, the machines come to life and start to kill mankind. A group of survivors is under siege from fierce trucks at the Dixie Boy truck stop gas station and they have to fight to survive. Will this film survive Judgement Day and be kept in the Junk Drawer for ever more, or discarded to the Pyre to be burned and disappear back into obscurity.... Tune in to find out! Based on his own short story, Trucks, Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive is what happens when Earth passes through the tail of Rea-M rogue comet, as machines come to life and begin to kill mankind. A group of survivors are under siege from fierce trucks at the Dixie Boy truck stop, and the film follows their plight as they fight to survive. Adapting his own screenplay, Maximum Overdrive is Stephen King's solo directorial debut. Starring Emilio Estevez, the film was critically lambasted, yet has carried through the years as something of a cult classic. We have differing thoughts on the film, but we definitely felt this was a prime film for this final season. It's time to Remake Maximum Overdrive RIGHT! Clips selected from 1986's Maximum Overdrive. Does the story need updating? Should characters or motives be tweaked? Do we need more muppets? We take all factors into account, concoct our film, and then offer a Final Pitch to you in movie trailer form. By the end of each episode, we will Remake This Movie RIGHT! Our show is broken down into three distinct parts: The Original: We discuss the original film’s impact, some quick trivia bits, what worked the best from the film and therefore must remain in our upcoming remake, and what didn’t work or what needs to be changed for today’s audiences. The Remake: We put together our movie! What story do we want to tell, how close to the original will it be, who will star, and ultimately who should direct our eventual cinematic masterpiece? Our hosts work together to put together one cohesive movie, but there is one caveat - Each host has one ‘CUT!’ throughout the episode to employ which could completely derail the entire film. The Final Pitch: This is where we summarize our remake by utilizing the voice talents of voiceover artist Wayne Henderson and present our finished remake to you in movie trailer form! Disagree with our picks? Want to submit a pitch of your own for our next teaser episode? Thoughts on this episode or suggestions for future episodes? Email us at RemakeThisMovieRight@gmail.com
