In this episode, Mike Gathers chats with Joseph Matheny, multidisciplinary artist and explorer of both the wilderness and the esoteric. Joe was an old friend of Robert Anton Wilson (Joe was also Bob's chauffeur for a while), and he was talking to Bob a lot when the book Reality Is What You Can Get Away With was published, and part of the efforts in trying to get the screenplay produced. • • • Links... • Joseph Matheny's website: https://josephmatheny.com/ • Exploring Ong's Hat: https://chasingshadowschronicle.substack.com/p/exploring-ongs-hat • Incunabula Research Center.: https://deoxy.org/irc/ • Robert Anton Wilson's "The I in the Triangle": https://archive.org/details/THEIINTHETRIANGLE • • • Host Mike Gathers: https://linktr.ee/mgathers23 Producer/Engineer Richard Rasa: http://www.pelorian.com/rasa.html
In this rollercoaster of an episode, our Unqualified Gurus return from the wild, dusty trails of the Houston Rodeo, only to stumble upon the curious case of the Schrödinger Flat Cap - is it fashionable, or a faux pas waiting to unfold? The mood takes a somber turn as we bid farewell to legendary figures: Akira Toriyama, whose imaginative Dragon Ball will forever linger in our hearts, and Pigcaso, the painting pig who left the art world a little less colorful. Elon Musk's latest AI drama gets the gurus debating the thin line between genius and madness, while Florida's ongoing battle with Spring Breakers has them pondering the true meaning of "wildlife." Oscar debuts a new song that's sure to be a hit. The looming TikTok ban has everyone questioning their destiny. Dune 2 gets a review that's spoiler-free but full of hot takes, and the art of method acting is dissected with the seriousness it deserves - which is not very, according to our hosts. A dive into the Oscars without the glitz and glam leads to a rundown of 2023's greatest movies, proving once again that our gurus might be unqualified, but their takes? Absolutely golden. As the episode wraps up, farewells are said, but not before promising more absurdity, laughter, and possibly questionable insights in episodes to come. Enjoy!

Sarah is keeping her 2024 resolution of stretching, but she doesn't want you to get any ideas, she is not going to be doing "the splits" or even a split for that matter. That would be too much of a good thing. We are wound up about method actors and the fact that it is a quirk reserved for white, male actors. If you ever wondered why there are no skeletons in the Titanic, Sarah's got the answer. We discuss the history of marathons and Susie just wants everyone to stop with all this running nonsense. There's a woman who never ran a marathon before, but did her first one to qualify for the Olympics, and she actually succeeded. Sarah loves this story and Susie hates it. According to her everyone just needs to calm down. New Zealand is giving "gold star" stickers to people who recycle properly, and despite the stars being worthless the reward is actually inspiring people to recycle because human brains are so very dumb.Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSponsors:Get an exclusive 20% off your first order at https://thrivecausemetics.com/braincandyHead to https://forwellness.com/braincandy and use code BRAINCANDY for 25% off!Get 25% off your entire order at https://www.mykitsch.com/braincandyStop wasting money on things you don't use. What a CreepSeason 23, Episode 5When method acting goes too farIf an actor wants to go deep on their character work for a movie, TV show, or play, and they're not hurting anyone, knock yourself out. Dear Diary (& Listeners), We all strive to be the best at something. For me, it was being a wife, a partner, a team member. For others it might be more career oriented or status driven. Not for me. I've known as long as I can remember that I wanted to be a wife, a mother, and right hand to a fearless teammate who strives for greatness in life. I've thought about this a lot this past week because as I try to be the best version of myself; I find that I fall short in a lot of areas I once thought I had conquered... The thing is, I hadn't conquered anything. I was acting like I had. In pure hope that one day I would meet the expectations I and my husband had set out for me. But as it does often in this story- the goalpost kept moving. And I kept falling short. It was easier to adopt a "fake it 'till I make it" mentality than it was to sit with my shortcomings and dissect them. While we are striving to be the best at whatever that "one thing" might be; there is someone out there looking for the perfect partner for them. Setting exceedingly high standards in the name of self respect or "not settling"... This could really be the basis on which a lot of relationships fail. Instead of trying to find or be the perfect partner, I believe that we should love an imperfect partner- perfectly. That should be the goal. To grow and stretch your beliefs in everything you ever wanted out of life; for the sake of happiness and love. If you can look at someone who is imperfect and see through the scars and skeletons, and STILL find a way to love them. I think you've beat the game. You win. In this episode you'll hear pivotal conversations that pave the disastrous road ahead. We will celebrate New Years Eve with friends and finally uncover the reason behind me painting our life so "picture perfect" constantly online. Be sure to share, like, and review.
