Grab a chainsaw because we're slicing into writer Joe Knetter and director Marcel Walz's homage to classic rural horror titles like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. We're mixed on this one, which has one of the best deaths of the year (file under: gloryhole sounding) and tons of queerness, but has terrible pacing/editing and a confusing message.Questions? Looking for a slasher story that cuts deep? This Weekly Spooky episode drags you straight into the woods, where an innocent boys' camping trip becomes a fight for survival. At the abandoned North Fork campground, an old drifter on a battered red bicycle stalks the trails with booby traps, bear snares, and a machete sharp enough to end the night.Bottle rockets and s'mores quickly give way to razor-wire, pitfall spikes, and the kind of forest terror that feels all too real. If you love slasher horror, survival stories, and campfire nightmares, this tale will have you checking every shadow. Perfect for fans of Friday the 13th, The Hills Have Eyes, and classic creepypasta.Turn off the lights, put on your headphones, and remember: sometimes the most dangerous monster in the woods is just a man… with a red bicycle. The Old Man with the Red Bicycle — by Bruce Haney.

Synopsis When a family takes a road trip looking for a fun and exciting vacation in sunny California, they find themselves off the beaten path and searching for a main road. Things spiral out of control when military jets fly overhead, startling the family and causing the vehicle and the trailer it pulls to crash in the middle of nowhere. As the sun sets, the family splits up to find a way to call for help, but danger may be lurking just around the hills. Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) This was my first time watching the original The Hills Have Eyes. I had already seen the 2006 remake, which surprisingly stays true to the story and content of the original very well. However, it's hard to beat the charm and originality of the 1977 version directed by Wes Craven. This movie is dark, gritty, and tugs at your nerves from almost every conceivable angle. As a father of a one-year-old, the terror felt by the young couple caring for their baby was palpable to me, and it genuinely made me feel ill at times. But you may be saying, “Max, I'm not a young parent to a baby, will this movie still apply to me?” Well, that depends. Do you care about dogs? Cause if the answer is yes, you will probably still feel on the edge of your seat with worry the whole time. This movie pulls no punches, attacking the family dynamic from all sides. No one is safe, and all shots are below the belt. Score 8/10
Evan is off this week, so Megan and Dave are joined by The Lady Wan of ScreenRun. They talk about the ghost story WENT UP THE HILL (5:03), starring Vicky Krieps and Dacre Montgomery, about a widow mourning her wife's recent death, and the wife's long-lost son who arrives for the funeral. Is this ghost benevolent or not so benevolent? Then they talk about NIGHT ALWAYS COMES (35:08), a new Netflix thriller starring Vanessa Kirby as Lynette, a woman trying to purchase her mother's home so she and her mother and brother don't end up homeless, and all the terrible crap that happens as Lynette becomes more desperate to find the down payment. (Jennifer Jason Lee is the mother. The bad mother.) We all had strong opinions about this one. Over on Patreon, we talk about Wes Craven's 1977 film THE HILLS HAVE EYES.

Ten years ago, 2015 was the year of the epic Western. Two films, Alejandro Iñárritu's The Revenant and Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, clocked in at an average length of 170 minutes and scored a combined 15 Academy Award nominations, winning 4 between them. As a pair, the two films brought in nearly $700 million at the box office. Along with John Maclean's Sundance darling Slow West, the year marked a return to prominence of the western genre, foreshadowing the next decade's breakout hits like Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and Hell or High Water, and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. Slipping somewhat under the radar in 2015 was the directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler, a prolific author and screenwriter with a penchant for wit, grit, and gore. Zahler cast Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, and Richard Jenkins in a Western akin to John Ford's The Searchers by way of Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes. When townsfolk are kidnapped by a clan of troglodyte cannibals, four men - the sheriff, a cowboy, a gunslinger, and the back-up deputy - ride out as a posse to rescue them. The indie film quickly earned praise for its direction, dialogue, and disturbing imagery, and has built a cult following in the decade hence. But is our posse of hosts in agreement on how Bone Tomahawk lands? Or will we, too, be split down the middle? Every so often, something hits the inbox that stops me in my tracks. This is one of those emails. In this episode, I'm sharing a message from a man named Marcus—someone who claims to be a former member of a secretive military unit tasked with cleaning up after encounters with cryptids, aliens, and other classified threats. Bigfoot. Dogman. UFOs. You name it—he says he's seen it, and worse. But the reason Marcus reached out? That's where things get truly unsettling.According to him, his unit was deployed to deal with a terrifying incident involving feral people—a group deep in the wilderness responsible for a string of disappearances and brutal killings. He claims they weren't just wild… they were organized. Dangerous. Predatory. If you've listened to That Bigfoot Podcast, you'll know Wayne and I have talked about feral people in the Appalachians before. And while it sounds like the stuff of horror movies, there are documented cases of strange disappearances and alleged human predators in remote areas. Marcus's email adds a new layer to that disturbing possibility.Let me be clear:I cannot verify Marcus's identity or his story. This is not presented as fact. But it was compelling, detailed, and dark enough that I felt it was worth sharing with you.⚠️ LISTENER DISCRETION IS STRONGLY ADVISED.This episode contains graphic descriptions of violence, death, and intense combat scenarios involving humans, cryptids, and alleged non-human entities. It is absolutely not suitable for children or sensitive listeners.Whether you believe Marcus or not, what he describes is chilling—and once you hear it, you won't forget it.Join Mireya's Explorer Society Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsVisit Untold Radio AMBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

We all know the GOOD horror movie remakes; The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, etc, but what about the remakes that are a little more underappreciated? Everyone now is foolishly remaking good movies into meh/garbage films, but what about taking a solidly meh movie to begin with and giving it a loving touchup? Wes Craven's 1977 ‘The Hills Have Eyes” is a bland version of the Sawney Bean legend, but what if that was jazzed up a bit into, say, a 2006 retelling focusing on the dangers of nuclear testing in the American Southwest? Well say what if no longer, because that's what we're covering today.

(The Man Who Inspired ‘The Hills Have Eyes') *** Nestled in the Kentish Weald, the quaint village of Stalisfield boasts a thousand-year-old church and timeless tranquility. But beneath its serene surface, whispers of ancient pagan rites and dark ceremonies linger. Could the chilling past of sacrificial rituals still echo through the village today? (The Stalisfield Blade) *** As dusk fell, a pickup truck pulled up to a motel outside Tarzana. Inside, Brother Elzibah and his monks prepared for a perilous mission, recording martyr statements and arming themselves with explosives. Their target on December 10, 1958: Krishna Venta, a self-styled prophet in Box Canyon. This night promised a dramatic showdown that would mark a violent chapter in the history of American spiritual communes, and the country's cults. A good chunk of us are probably buried under snow right now, so why not grab our skis and hit the slopes? While we're at it, we might as well crank some obscure 80s Swedish hair metal but be careful - they rock so hard that their music sometimes causes avalanches! It should be fine… What's worse is there's a murderous group of Hills Have Eyes knockoffs chilling in the nearby factory and definitely not enough lighting on set to show the viewer who's killing who. That's 1985's BLOOD TRACKS in a nutshell (we think - it was really dark) and we're digging ourselves out of that fluffy white stuff this week; we may even shovel some snow! ONE TWO, Freddy's coming for you...THREE FOUR, Better lock your door...Forty years ago this November saw the release of one of the most influential horror films of all time directed by the late, great Wes Craven who would gradually be acknowledged as one of the true masters of the horror genre having directed iconic genre classics before this (The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left) and after, most notably Scream which would come out twelve years later. And what he created as both writer and director was a truly terrifying concept: An otherworldly monster who could invade your dreams to murder you while you were asleep. :o That monster was of course Freddy Krueger played by Robert England, sporting a crinkled fedora and most memorably a leather glove with sharpened razor blades protruding from each finger. Freddy was the stuff of nightmares and quickly caught fire as a hugely popular film icon. Fortunately, there were folks on the side of good to fight and hopefully defeat this new evil force....for this first film, they were lead by mild-mannered teenager Nancy played by Heather Langenkamp. And she had help including her father played by John Saxon (Enter the Dragon) and her boyfriend by a young, baby-faced Johnny Depp in his film debut. Let's head on over to Elm Street....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
