In this teaching transmission on the purpose of a true Wisdom School, Shunyamurti reveals that awakening is not the accumulation of spiritual concepts but the deactivation of the ego program that obscures our true nature. Shunyamurti explains that practical and theoretical knowledge can take us only to the threshold, while liberation ultimately requires the grace of transcendent wisdom. As the end of Kali Yuga approaches, the choice becomes increasingly urgent: continue feeding the ego's old patterns, or awaken to the immortal Self and learn to sustain consciousness beyond the limitations of time, space, and body.

Change, Initiation, and Jiu Jitsu as a Modern Mystery with Professor Jason Hawkins The host of The Jiu Jitsu Mindset welcomes Professor Jason Hawkins, promotes the My Jiu Jitsu Journey app's new weight-loss component, and mentions Submission Coffee's wholesale program for gym owners. They discuss change as deep transformation rather than habit tweaks, framing growth as transmuting suffering into consciousness and using a marathon "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional" story plus the Yoga Sutras' "now" as a call to seriousness when ordinary coping fails. They explore initiation as guided "death, burial, resurrection," historically tied to near-death clarity, with compassion distinguishing it from abuse, and note women are "initiated by nature" while men often need imposed rites. They relate initiation to martial arts as modern mystery schools: sacred space, gi/belt symbolism, told-shown-done learning, humility, trust, and moving from technique to principle and "no habit." They cover Nietzsche's camel-lion-child, three paths (hardship, self-study, surrender), boredom as a gatekeeper, devotion vs outcome-seeking, and responsibility as the warrior ethic. 00:00 Welcome and Updates 01:08 Meet Jason Hawkins 01:50 Why People Change 03:04 Pain vs Suffering Story 03:59 Yoga Sutras and Now 06:02 Transformation Not Habits 10:02 Gross to Subtle Path 13:32 What Is Initiation Today 16:35 Near Death and Rites 21:59 Pete's Grandfather Lesson 25:57 Mysteries and Three Steps 31:27 Nietzsche Camel Lion Child 36:21 Iron John Colors and Jiu Jitsu 38:22 Pick Your Moment 38:33 No Habit Mastery 38:46 Rolling With My Son 40:33 Skill Stages Explained 42:01 Mystery School Question 45:05 Sacred Space Rituals 48:13 False Danger Real Growth 52:00 Practice Reverence Discipline 54:16 Warrior Responsibility 01:01:03 Mystery Cannot Be Told 01:04:03 Miracles And Attention 01:05:57 Boredom Gatekeeper 01:08:16 Devotion Over Discipline 01:11:50 Closing Reflections

Episode #436 of BGMania: A Video Game Music Podcast. Today on the show, Bryan and Bedroth wash up on the shores of the Spirhalite Islands for a Blind Listen through the soundtrack of Splatoon Raiders, the first-ever Splatoon spin-off. This one trades the series' catchy, funky hooks for something stranger and saltier... an abrasive, atmospheric score credited to a fake label of sea creatures and salt puns, sounding at times like it was cobbled together by the fish themselves. It's divisive, it's an acquired taste, and it had Bryan wrestling with it the whole way through... right up until Deep Cut grab the mic and remind everyone why these games always stick the landing. If you've ever gone through something that changed you so completely that the language of “getting back to normal” started to feel almost insulting, this episode is for you. Vanessa explores initiation as the kind of rupture that does not return us to who we were, but reorganizes the self entirely. Through rites of passage, liminality, trauma, witness, and the loss of ritual in modern life, we look at why some experiences are not interruptions to the old life, but thresholds into another one. The invitation is to stop measuring healing by whether you can become who you were before, and begin asking what kind of life can be built around who you are now.For educational purposes only. This isn't therapy.Early applications for the next cohort of Inner Compass Academy are now open to the waitlist only.If you've been feeling called toward deeper work with depth psychology, shadow, somatics, the unconscious, relational patterns, and learning how to hold space with more consciousness and integrity, this is the first window to apply. The early application window is only open for one week. We're going to talk about issues related to our moods, our ideas, emotions, etc. The Esoteric Path is narrow, constricted, and difficult. We normally live in a world of sensory experiences, which is the Physical World. Through external sensory perceptions, we form our concepts of content, with which we reason. Reasoning and the Sensory Perceptions Thus, the reasoning we normally use is based solely on sensory assemblies. Given that these assemblies are its foundation, it is obvious that this type of reasoning is conditioned precisely by them. Reason, therefore, is subjective and hypothetical from every point of view, since it is based on the information our senses provide. And so, if we form concepts of content from these sensory perceptions, and then distribute these concepts in one way or another, they give us ordinary, formal logical reasoning. Do you really believe that this type of reasoning (based solely on external sensory perceptions) could allow us to verify reality? If the concepts of content have been developed precisely from the data provided by our physical senses, it is obvious that such concepts of content cannot transcend the mystical-sensory realm. We will now explain why ordinary reasoning is called “subjective reasoning.” What could Subjective Reasoning possibly know about Reality, about Truth, about God, about life beyond the grave, about what exists beyond the world of the senses, about what lies beyond death? Obviously, this reasoning, based solely on content concepts developed from the data provided by our physical senses, can only operate within its own limitations. It can only be processed within the realm of the mystical-sensory; it could never transcend the concepts of content through which it was formed. So, how can we reach the EXPERIENCE OF REALITY and TRUTH? There are various techniques in MEDITATION, etc., but above all, it requires possessing what is called “Faith.” Faith and Meditation lead us to Enlightenment Orthodox dogma teaches that “faith is belief in what we do not see.” This kind of Orthodox faith is not authentic faith. Faith, in itself, is a solar power. But how do we attain such power? Therein lies the problem… Is it possible to attain Faith? The Physical Senses cannot provide it; they will provide us with data with which (I repeat) we will develop our concepts of content, which are so fundamental to reasoning, up to a point! But that Solar-type Faith, the one that goes beyond simple Subjective Reasoning, the one that has such extraordinary power as to move mountains, the one that combined with Meditation leads us to Enlightenment, is not possible to obtain with the simple reports that the Physical Senses give us. Some ask for faith, they cry out for faith. It's good to pray, but as the saying goes, “Pray to God, but keep hammering away”… So, what to do? Truly, to attain faith, above all, you have to create it; faith is not something that can be achieved empirically. I repeat: YOU HAVE TO CREATE IT. And how is it created? Through STUDY and EXPERIENCE. It is obvious that through study and Direct Experience, by means of the technique of Meditation, we will come to COMPREHEND, and from that Comprehension comes, spontaneously, that which is called “Faith.” Comprehension, in itself, does not belong to the Mind; it is an exclusive property of the THIRD LOGOS, of LORD SHIVA, of BINAH (the Great Sephiroth, one of the Three Supreme Sephiroth), of the Holy Spirit… If we are experiencing through meditation, if we are studying something—some transcendental subject—if we strive to comprehend it, it is obvious that the first thing we will have is the mystical experience (as a result of study and meditation); then comes comprehension, that spark of light given to us by the Third Logos. He comes to our aid to give us comprehension, and from such comprehension comes faith. Comprehension (I repeat, so that I am clearly understood) is based on the Third Logos, and from this comprehension comes Faith. Therefore, if Comprehension is based on the Third Logos and from this comprehension comes Faith, then obviously the very root of Faith is in the Third Logos, that is, in the Holy Spirit. The many Degrees on the Path of Initiation But in acquiring faith, there are degrees and degrees, scales and scales, systems and systems. Obviously, my dear brothers, when I refer to “systems and systems,” I am referring to hierarchical matters: Solar Systems, Worlds, Universes, Atomic Systems, etc. As for the practical means or system for achieving faith, it is none other than the one I have already mentioned… I emphasize the idea that there are degrees and degrees, because knowledge is multiple, multifaceted. For example: Suppose we are ignorant of the Law of Eternal Return; we are informed, but we know nothing. What should we do? How can we come to have faith in this Law? We must first study the Doctrine of the Eternal Return of all things. Through intellectual understanding, we will come to know that the stars return to their starting point after many years; that the atoms within the molecule always return to their original starting point; that the Sun has an elliptical orbit, returning south and then north each year… Through this understanding, we will be able to know that days and nights, seasons, and ages return… We will also learn, through this information, that the Law of Eternal Return allows us to come back, to be reborn, to have a new body after we have lost the one we have. That much is obvious, but that's where it ends! We need something more: We need to REMEMBER OUR PAST LIVES, that's obvious. As long as we don't have the memory of our previous lives, we can't say we know, no! We'll have the theory accumulated in the mind, but that's not true KNOWLEDGE. So, what should we do? First of all, we need to investigate; there are systems for remembering past lives. Gautama, the Buddha, taught the method of RETROSPECTION, and it is wonderful. But how could we come to have faith, for example, in the method taught by Gautama the Buddha? There is only one way. How? First, study; second, practice. From study and practice comes understanding; then, as a result, faith arises; and with faith, we will successfully practice the retrospective exercise. The Practice The exercise is easy and simple: Begin lying in bed, with your body relaxed. You must remember, concentrate on the last events of the day, the ones before that, the ones before that; and thus, in retrospect, recall, relive all the incidents of the day. We will then proceed with the incidents of the previous day, also in retrospect. Then we will continue trying to remember what we did on the day before last; and so, with that process, we will try to remember the last 15 days of our life, the penultimate 15 days, everything we did in the past month and the month before last, and what we did in a year and in 10 and in 20 years. We will strive to remember all the events of life, always in retrospect. When we reach the first five years of childhood, the problem arises: How can we remember the events of our lives when we were four, three, two, one years old? How? We have no choice but to COMBINE MEDITATION WITH SLEEP: In moments when we feel predisposed to sleep, we will practice the exercise, trying to meticulously recall all the incidents of our lives when we were four, three, two, one… The memories will emerge in flashes, like lightning, like bursts of light, etc… Those first flashes (memories of early childhood) resulting, first, from having known the practice, the study; second, from having practiced the retrospective exercise, those memories or those flashes, those visions, let's say, of a lightning-like type, will give us Faith in the exercise (a Solar-type Faith), and the more we remember the occurrences of early childhood, the more Faith will increase. And when we have remembered our entire life, up to the very moment of birth, then we can make the leap to the last moment (to the last moment of the previous life). If we can remember it, if we can picture ourselves surrounded by our family in our final moments, then our faith will be rekindled, it will be even stronger. We will say: “What an extraordinary exercise, I am happy with this practice!” And as we continue our retrospective exercise, we will recall the final years of our past existence, the penultimate years, the years before the penultimate, our youth, our adolescence, our childhood, the moment we were born in our past existence. When we achieve this, we will possess an unwavering, solar-type Faith, unshakeable. Someone might come and tell us that “this exercise is useless,” and we would laugh at them. The greatest reasoner might come and try to destroy us, and we would laugh at them (we would be sustained by Faith, the product of STUDY and EXPERIENCE). Then we would say, “I know the Law of the Eternal Return of all things,” but we would no longer say it in a merely empirical, intellectual, or reasoned way; rather, we would speak it with firsthand knowledge. We could say, “I have returned, and here I am!”; and we would speak it with such certainty that we would move many. Thus, we would have acquired Faith through the retrospective exercise. This procedure, taught by Gautama Buddha Shakyamuni, allows us to remember all our previous existences; it is a marvelous exercise. But it is one thing for you to hear a statement, an explanation, and another thing entirely to put it into practice. When you hear the discourse on such an exercise, you receive INFORMATION; you are, in fact, STUDYING. But when you practice, you are PRACTICING; and from study and practice comes comprehension; and as a result of comprehension, Faith. This comprehension is given to us by the Third Logos; and it is Faith, the definitive result of experience, verification, and comprehension. So, brothers, there is no other way to have Faith. But if you manage to develop, for example, Faith in retrospect, Faith in the Law of the Eternal Return of all things (based on study, experience, and comprehension), it does not mean, for that reason, that you have, for example, COMPLETE FAITH in other matters, such as the existence of Atlantis. You may have heard that Atlantis existed, but you have no proof of it; you receive it as news, you may accept it, but you have no real proof of it. IMAGINATION and WILL So, to find out if Atlantis existed, you would first need to verify that information by studying where Atlantis was located. That it was in the Atlantic Ocean, fine! What physical evidence, what data is there, what are its legends, traditions, etc.? Once we have all that data, then we need to verify it. How will we verify it? Through the technique of meditation. We will have to lie down in our bed (preferably with our head facing North), our body completely relaxed, our eyes closed, at a moment when we feel predisposed to sleep, and we must concentrate intently on Atlantis, combining IMAGINATION and WILL in vibrant harmony. Let us remember that Imagination is feminine; it is worth mentioning that Will is masculine, and that in the combination of these two polarities lies the key to all Power. Therefore, we must not underestimate the Imagination; there is a very marked tendency to underestimate the Imagination. Some say: “Those are things of the Imagination, I accept them because…, or it's a thing of my Imagination,” that is, they do not know how to appreciate the value of the Imagination. Distinguish between INTENTIONAL IMAGINATION and MECHANICAL IMAGINATION. Intentional Imagination is the “TRANSLUCENT” that allows us to see the great realities of the Inner Worlds. Mechanical Imagination is FANTASY; it is formed from the detritus of memory. Let us, therefore, distinguish between IMAGINATION and FANTASY. To underestimate Imagination is absurd. Therefore, we must develop our imagination, cultivate it… If we concentrate properly (I repeat) on Atlantis, with relaxed bodies, vividly imagining the Atlantean continent; if we unite Will and Imagination in vibrant harmony (wanting to see Atlantis); if we practice daily, imagining it there in the Atlantic Ocean, seeing a group of marvelous islands, among them Poseidon's island with its seven solid gold gates, etc.; if we truly practice, what will happen? That one day, we will see Atlantis… Obviously, there are three phases in Initiatic Knowledge: 1. IMAGINATION 2. INSPIRATION 3. INTUITION Imagination, Inspiration, and Intuition are the three obligatory paths of Initiation. We will vividly imagine the Atlantean Continent, just as it was there, situated in the ocean that bears its name (the walled cities, etc.) And our Will will be “TO WANT TO SEE”, and our Imagination will be TO WAIT, TO BE IN A RECEPTIVE STATE, to see what comes to the Imagination. One day, among many others, glimpses of Atlantis will begin to reach our imagination, and the images of that ancient continent will grow ever more vivid. We will see its inhabitants, its cities, and if we are persistent in this practice, the day will come when we will be able to see the Atlantean continent perfectly, in its entirety. These glimpses will give us faith, but that faith will increase when we move on to the second aspect, which is called “inspiration.” Being inspired, we will feel within ourselves what Atlantis was like; we will know of its life and its tragedies. A third level will lead us to INTUITION. And then, through Intuition, we will not only be able to see clairvoyantly and come to feel the vivid emotions of the people, etc., of the Atlantean Continent, but we will also be able to study, in its entirety, the life of that continent, of that humanity, in the very Sealed Archives of Nature, in the AKASHIC RECORDS. When that happens, we will have much more Faith. Then we see how Faith is susceptible to development. Someone can have faith in one thing and not in another. Whoever wants to have faith in everything will have to study deeply and experience, and then, as a result of study and direct experience, comes comprehension, and as a consequence or corollary of such comprehension, comes faith which (as I already told you) obviously has its roots in the same Third Logos. This is how faith develops: through study and experience… That's all I have to say. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

Ryan and Alex explore the timeless wisdom of the Corpus Hermeticum, the spiritual teachings of Rudolf Steiner, and the seven universal spiritual laws. They also discuss the awakening of psychic perception, the role of magic and consciousness in personal transformation, and how these ancient traditions relate to contact with interdimensional beings and the deeper nature of reality.
Archaeologist Jens Notroff of the German Archaeological Institute takes us into Göbekli Tepe and the Taş Tepeler world, where hunter-gatherers raised T-shaped pillars and carved the aurochs into stone long before the first Bronze Age king wore a crown. No palaces and no royal graves, only a fingerprint pressed into wet plaster and a child's footprint set in a mudbrick, the small human traces that outlast every monument. Follow the bull forward and you feel a line running from Anatolia toward the Bronze Age, and though the road to Mesopotamia is broken and lost, the people who built these sanctuaries did not vanish, they became us. What Notroff leaves us is heavier than any ruin: hierarchy was something human beings made and could have made otherwise, and that old freedom is still ours to remember.PATREON https://www.patreon.com/c/demystifysciPARADOX LOST PRE-SALE: https://buy.stripe.com/7sY7sKdoN5d29eUdYddEs0bHOMEBREW MUSIC - Check out our new album!Hard Copies (Vinyl): FREE SHIPPING https://demystifysci-shop.fourthwall.com/products/vinyl-lp-secretary-of-nature-everything-is-so-good-hereStreaming:https://secretaryofnature.bandcamp.com/album/everything-is-so-good-herePARADIGM DRIFThttps://demystifysci.com/paradigm-drift-show00:00 Go! Your relationship with gravity is the next step in you remembering how to fly. Did you know that gravity is a universal intelligence that was specifically designed to respond to other aspects of existence, including you. Every time you stand up. Sit down. Walk across a room. Reach for something without thinking. Gravity reacted to you. Instantly. Exactly as it was designed. You've been having this conversation your whole life, most likely without knowing it existed. Flying is not a new conversation. It's just the next level of a relationship you're already in. This is how you'll remember to fly. Not because you'll learn techniques, but because you're learning about the relationship between different universal energies, why they exist and how they relate to you. Flying isn't about your physical body. It's about your relationship with existence itself. After a quiet closing of the door and three years away from the microphone, I am returning to the podcast. In this episode, I break the silence to share the raw, unfiltered truth of my own deep withdrawal - the necessary, dismantling descent into the sacred passage of menopause. For over thirty years, my monthly cycle was my steady inner compass. When that familiar rhythm began to break down, it triggered a profound unraveling from the inside out: the grief of mourning the dying Maiden within, the release of the unseen Mother who held everything together for everyone else, and the terrifying loss of my own voice and sense of self. Society conditions us to fear, suppress, and avoid this change at all costs, turning a vital threshold into a multibillion-pound industry of avoidance. But Mother Nature knew exactly what she was doing. Menopause is not an ending; it is a sacred metamorphosis - a radical return to sovereignty, truth, and She Who Knows. The Dismantling of the Cycle: Surrendering to the diminishment of a 30-year internal rhythm and mourning the death of the Maiden within. The Fire of the Descent: Navigating chaotic sleep, hot flashes, brain fog, body dysmorphia, and the rising tide of decades of suppressed rage. The Death of the Unseen Mother: Stepping away from people-pleasing, toxic attachments, and the endless need to nourish others at your own expense. Reclaiming the Lost Voice: Walking through a three-year dismemberment to find radical honesty, zero tolerance for bullshit, and pure presence. The Sovereign Matriarch: How menopause unites the highest frequencies of the Maiden, Mother, and Matriarch to anchor you in courage, confidence, and unapologetic selfhood. If you are currently walking through this fire, feeling lost in the darkness, the grief, the brain fog, or the breaking down of who you once were, you do not have to walk this cave alone. I invite you to explore sacred space where you are seen, held, and honored exactly as you are: ✨ Sovereignty: A 9-month 1:1 Journey✨ The Menopause InitiationConnect with Nicola Lucie:Website: The Feminine PrincipleShare this episode with a sister walking through her own initiation.

Dracula, The Hills Have Eyes, Nope, Maximum Overdrive, and Deep Blue Sea headline this episode of This Week in Horror History, covering July 20 through July 26. Summer horror gets seductive, sun-scorched, mechanical, extraterrestrial, and shark-infested as we explore gothic vampires, desert survival horror, reverse-horror gaming, Jordan Peele's terrifying vision of spectacle, Stephen King's killer-machine apocalypse, and genetically engineered sharks loose inside an underwater laboratory. Inside this episode:July 20, 1979 — Dracula releases in the United StatesFrank Langella gives Count Dracula a dangerous combination of gothic romance, theatrical charm, and supernatural menace. This version of Bram Stoker's vampire proves that evil does not always need to force its way through the door. Sometimes it gets invited inside.July 22, 1977 — The Hills Have Eyes premieres in Tucson, ArizonaWes Craven turns an ordinary family road trip into a brutal desert survival nightmare. When a shortcut leaves the Carter family stranded far from civilization, the open landscape becomes a trap filled with heat, isolation, violence, and another family watching from the hills.July 23, 2020 — Carrion releasesThis reverse-horror video game flips the familiar monster formula by letting players become the creature. A growing mass of teeth, tendrils, and hunger escapes through a research facility while terrified scientists and guards discover that containment has completely failed.July 22, 2022 — Nope releases in U.S. theatersJordan Peele turns the sky into a haunted house in a strange and ambitious collision of UFO horror, creature-feature spectacle, Hollywood exploitation, western imagery, animal behavior, and the dangerous human need to capture the impossible on camera.Deep-Cut Spotlight — Maximum OverdriveStephen King steps behind the camera for one of the loudest and most gloriously unhinged killer-machine movies of the 1980s. After Earth passes through the tail of a comet, trucks, vending machines, arcade games, lawn equipment, and other everyday technology suddenly turn against humanity. At the Dixie Boy truck stop, a group of survivors becomes trapped by eighteen-wheelers that appear to have developed personalities, grudges, and a deep hatred of human beings. With a goblin-faced truck, massive explosions, diner panic, homicidal machinery, and AC/DC blasting through the chaos, Maximum Overdrive remains a greasy, absurd, and unforgettable piece of Stephen King horror history.Horror Birthdays This Week: Diana Rigg, Josh Hartnett, Willem Dafoe, and Lynda Carter enter the birthday roll, bringing connections to Theatre of Blood, Last Night in Soho, Halloween H20, The Faculty, 30 Days of Night, Trap, Shadow of the Vampire, The Lighthouse, Nosferatu, and The Initiation of Sarah.Weekly Recommendation — Deep Blue Sea Researchers inside an isolated underwater facility genetically engineer mako sharks while searching for a medical breakthrough. Unfortunately, making enormous predators more intelligent turns out to be a catastrophically bad idea. Packed with violent storms, flooding corridors, underwater laboratories, corporate hubris, giant sharks, and one of the most memorable shock moments in 1990s horror, Deep Blue Sea remains a fast, fun, and wonderfully ridiculous summer creature feature. From Dracula and The Hills Have Eyes to Carrion, Nope, Maximum Overdrive, and Deep Blue Sea, this week in horror history proves that summer terror can wait inside a gothic mansion, watch from the desert hills, escape from a laboratory, descend from the sky, take control of an eighteen-wheeler, or circle silently beneath the water.
We gave this talk on a special occasion: the amāvasyā (the new moon) that opens the gupta navarātrī period (the 9 nights of the summer goddess festival) and so to celebrate, we reflect upon dīkshā, spiritual initiation & the systems of accountability to ensure the credibility of Tāntrik lineages so that we can better contextualize our place as a community in the midst of all of that. Mainly, I want to revisit the validity of intrapersonal mystical experiences like dreams and intuitions as reliable metric for religious authenticity even beyond texts and institutions and to substantiate this claim, we consider 4 important cases: 1. Vasugupta & the Śiva Sutra2. Maheśvarānanda & the Mahartha Mañjarī, 3. Rāni Rasmani & the Dakshineshwar Temple, 4. Swami Ashokananda's "śaktopaya dīkshā" (to borrow Swami Turiyananda's phrase here) from Swami Vivekananda in meditation & dream experience Here is a playlist of talks on our guru-paramparā & thoughts on lineage. And here are some videos on our mission, ideals, manifesto etc. Hit Me Up xSupport the showLectures happen live every Monday at 7pm PST and again at Friday 11am PST Use this link and I will see you there:https://www.zoom.us/j/7028380815For more videos, guided meditations and instruction and for access to our lecture library, visit me at:https://www.patreon.com/yogawithnishTo get in on the discussion and access various spiritual materials, join our Discord here: https://discord.gg/U8zKP8yMrM

In this episode, I sit down with author, researcher, and consulting hypnotist Angel Millar to explore his fascinating book, The Supernatural Woman and the Male Initiate: Bonded Through Dreams.Together, we journey into the mysterious feminine beings who have appeared throughout mythology, dreams, literature, and esoteric traditions - not simply as muses or lovers, but as protectors, teachers, initiators, and powerful forces capable of transforming a man's character and consciousness. From the Norse fylgja, Valkyries, Morgan le Fay, The Wife of Bath, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, to guardian angels, shamanic dream wives, succubi, fairy beings, Freemasonry, sex magic, and the lost purpose of initiation, we explore some of the strangest and most overlooked corners of the Western mystery tradition. We also discuss whether these supernatural beings are archetypes, independent consciousnesses, or multidimensional intelligences; why true initiation must create a permanent transformation of consciousness; how Christianity changed the Western relationship with the physical body; and why caution and discernment are essential when working with occult forces.Later, we dive into the ancient meaning of the daemon, the true nature of genius, creativity received through dreams, altered states of consciousness, self-hypnosis, hypnagogic visions, and the unseen source of inspiration that sometimes seems to move through artists, musicians, writers, and mystics. An incredible episode... Because we are all of us different, naturally, we want different things out of life and out of spirituality and we so all come to it with different expectations and values and backgrounds. Often, this means we're going to have different (and equally valid) ideas about “Tantra”, “Guru” & most importantly “Dīkshā”, spiritual initiation. In Indic spiritual traditions, we tend to value texts (śāstra) to substantiate our claims and this is especially true of Tantra which is in a large part a textual transmission (without dispensing with the importance of human to human spiritual transmission, through living lineages, of course.) And in the name of integrity and transparency, as is the responsibility of all acāryas, śaiva or otherwise, it's important to be accountable to our textual tradition, to cite our sources and innovate within the parameters of tradition. But the thing is, we might just all be reading different texts and have different ways of interpreting and evaluating the legitimacy of those texts themselves! We should first acknowledge that there are different interpretations of these things and they are all valid even if they differ from one another because our traditions are so vast and diverse. Also, each person is entitled to going about things and understand things in their own way since, again, we are each of us different; what works for one person might not for another. Now, a lot of the time, people conflate what we're doing with what others might be doing and judge us by standards or values that we might not share. All too often, our detractors feel that we are illegitimate (and again, everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is perfectly alright) but in response we say: just because it doesn't work for you, does not mean it isn't valuable to another or rather; just because it doesn't match your standards of legitimacy, doesn't mean it is inherently illegitimate. Perhaps the Indic traditions are just more diverse and more inclusive than we're willing to allow for? As such, I want to be clearer about my definitions and understanding of terms like “tantra”, “guru” and most of all, “dīksha” moving forward so that you can better evaluate whether or not this material (and my interpretation and presentation of it) is spiritually nourishing for you! In that direction, here's a little excerpt from a conversation I was having in the car re: dīksha, in particular. Almost every couple navigates it, and almost nobody talks about it openly: the vulnerable dance of initiation. Who reaches for whom, who tends to pull back, and the quiet hurt that builds around it over the years. In this tender and practical episode, Christa brings one of the most unspoken dynamics in marriage into the light. She explains why the lower-initiating partner is so often not less interested but more wounded, how the pursuer-distancer cycle plays out painfully around physical intimacy, and why it is almost never about frequency but about the meaning each reach and pull-back has come to carry. She shows how your Enneagram type and especially your instincts shape who reaches and who waits, why a self-preservation-led spouse may need to feel settled before desire comes online, and why a sexual-instinct-led spouse may feel the lack more acutely. Then she offers a clear, gentle path to change the dance: naming the pattern without blame, separating a no to this moment from a no to you, and making reaching feel safe again for both people. If initiation has become a sore place in your marriage, this episode will help you understand that you are not broken, your spouse is not broken, and the pattern can change. Plus, the Awakening Intimacy course is open and on sale now, one hundred dollars off, with this tender work woven right in. Watch on YouTube! Show notes: Get the Awakening Intimacy Journal here! In this episode of The Masculine Journey, the guys explore the often-overlooked concept of initiation—the way God uses life's challenges, setbacks, brotherhood, and even moments of humility to shape men into who he created them to be. Drawing from personal stories, military illustrations, movies, and biblical truth, the conversation reveals how God's refining process is never about punishment, but preparation. The clips are from "Hacksaw Ridge," "Animal House," and "Maverick." Whether you've experienced seasons of struggle, felt like life has been one long boot camp, or wondered why God allows certain hardships, this episode offers encouragement that every trial can become part of His greater purpose. True initiation isn't about earning your place—it's about allowing God to transform your heart and prepare you for the calling He has on your life. Join us as we discuss the importance of community, spiritual growth, humility, and discovering how God faithfully leads every man through the journey of becoming a stronger husband, father, friend, and disciple. In this episode of Masculine Journey After Hours, the team explores the powerful role of initiation in the Christian life. Through personal stories, lessons from Braveheart, and honest conversations about failure, friendship, healing, and spiritual growth, they unpack how God uses life's challenges to shape us into the men and women He created us to be. From learning through loss to finding strength in authentic community, this discussion highlights why spiritual maturity isn't achieved in isolation. Instead, it grows through mentors, trusted friendships, conflict that leads to deeper unity, and the willingness to let God redeem our broken places. Whether you're navigating a difficult season, seeking authentic fellowship, or wondering how God is using your current circumstances, this episode offers encouragement that every initiation has a purpose—and that on the other side of the struggle is greater intimacy with God and others. How do you initiate in the bedroom? ;) George and Laurie explore (and joke!) about 5 different initiator styles: Seduction, Touch, Emotional Connection, Sex Talk and Power Play. We continue our examination of the Sacrament of Baptism, specifically how we celebrate the sacrament and the different elements that must always be present in Baptism. Fr. Mike emphasizes that while infant Baptism has become the “form in which this sacrament is usually celebrated,” post-baptismal formation and instruction is necessary in order for the full flowering of the graces received in the Sacrament of Baptism.
