Dan Hess is back and has chosen 1984's "Repo Man" as the movie for this week's Sci-Fi Shuffle episode. It's a movie that has a specific wavelength but, much like being tricked into repossessing cars, we just went with it and had a blast! We try to decide if moshing outdoors with your friends used to be a thing. Despite Dan's time constraints, we also get in a few taste tests!

Imagine a dystopian America where authority is malignant, the profit motive rules all, everyone is on the grift, all goods and services have been devalued to the least of their utility and value, and the infrastructure has crumbled into a depressing echo of its former self… this morning's New York Times? No! It's Alex Cox's punk rock masterpiece Repo Man! Made in that special time before John Hughes and the Brat Pack got their hooks in him, Emilio Estevez embodies youth in revolt as he teams up with Harry Dean Stanton at his scuzziest, most viciously nicotine-stained best to get into some tense situations. Step into the 1980s Ronnie Reagan did NOT want you to know about: where aliens are real, televangelists occasionally moonlight as government agents, television holds a hypnotic sway over your parents, and, most importantly, the threat of the Rodriguez Brothers looms around every corner! Politically biting, socially trenchant, and as fucking hilarious as a can of generic beer and poke to the eye with a lit cigarette, Repo Man may just be the angriest and most prophetic mainstream film of its time - and even more surprisingly, it's one of Paul's formative favorites! YouTube tried to erase us — but they can't kill the tape Halfway through our live breakdown of The L.A. Riot Spectacular (2005), the broadcast suddenly disappeared with zero warning while we were still on air, still talking, still laughing at the mysteriously empty viewer count. No strike notice. No explanation. Just gone. So here it is — the full, resurrected episode. We finally dig into one of the strangest spoof comedies ever made: an Airplane-style gag movie about the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Directed by music-video veteran Marc Klasfeld and starring Snoop Dogg, Emilio Estevez, and T.K. Carter, the film plays like ZAZ chaos dropped straight into one of the most combustible moments in modern American history. We break down how it got made, what works (if anything), what absolutely doesn't, and why this thing even exists — plus what actually happened when the original stream vanished mid-recording. PLUS: Battle of the Bands, What We've Been Watching, and the content YouTube was TOO AFRAID to air.----- Join our Patreon if you can! Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669!

This week, Shat The Movies parks the surveillance van and cracks open Stakeout, the 1987 buddy-cop hit that proved Richard Dreyfuss could be both wildly neurotic and a believable romantic lead. Gene and Big D revisit this Reagan-era crowd-pleaser to figure out how a movie about police spying on a civilian somehow became a rom-com, a workplace comedy and an action-thriller all at once. The guys dig into Dreyfuss's escalating obsession, Emilio Estevez's mustachioed energy, and how the film casually treats stalking, harassment and undercover ethics as punchlines. They break down hot crooks, the very loose definition of "professional boundaries," and why Madeleine Stowe's character exists mostly to react to men behaving badly. Along the way, they debate whether Stakeout works because of its chemistry—or in spite of everything happening onscreen. Is Stakeout a charming artifact from a time when movies trusted charisma over logic, or just proof that '80s law enforcement comedies lived in a completely different moral universe? Nesse programa temos a participação do Samuel do podcast Cabine do Tempo / @cabinedotempo https://m.twitch.tv/cabinedotempo/home / cabinedotempo PIX: canalfilmesegames@gmail.comSiga o Filmes e Games:Instagram: filmesegames Facebook: filmesegames Twitter: filmesegamesSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5KfJKthPodcast: https://anchor.fm/fgcastIntro - 0:00Mássimo Ouverdráive - 10:17O que é "Comboio do Terror"? - 10:57Tirando o bode da sala - 14:38Sobre o filme - 50:00Notas do Filmes e Games - 1:02:08Momento Locadora - 1:06:41Revelação do FGcast #410 - 1:49:44Dicas do FGcast #411 - 1:59:04
The Breakfast Club (1985) was chosen by Patreon supporter Lucky LouLou Green, and it stands as one of the defining films of 1980s American cinema. Written, produced, and directed by John Hughes, the movie was made during an incredibly prolific period for the filmmaker, as he reshaped teen movies with a more honest, character-driven approach. Shot on a modest budget of around $1 million, the film was produced quickly, with Hughes deliberately stripping away flashy set pieces to focus on dialogue, performance, and atmosphere. Principal photography took place at Maine North High School in Des Plaines, Illinois — a real, unused school that Hughes would return to multiple times throughout his career. The production schedule was famously short — just 28 days — and Hughes encouraged collaboration, allowing the young cast to contribute ideas and personal experiences to their roles. Several moments of dialogue were improvised or rewritten on set, helping give the film its natural, conversational feel that set it apart from other teen movies of the era. Composer Keith Forsey provided the now-iconic soundtrack, perfectly capturing the mood of mid-80s youth culture. Upon release, The Breakfast Club became both a commercial and cultural success, cementing Hughes' reputation and turning its cast into defining faces of a generation. Today, the film is widely regarded as a landmark of 1980s filmmaking — proof that a small budget, a single location, and strong creative confidence can produce something timeless.

Men at Work (1990) was chosen by co-host Chris, and it's a perfect fit for his love of oddball comedies from the VHS era. Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, the film was a true family affair — with Estevez not only helming the project but also starring alongside his real-life brother, Charlie Sheen. Coming off the back of their late-'80s fame from Young Guns and Wall Street, the pair teamed up for a buddy comedy that blended slapstick humor, blue-collar chaos, and a dash of political satire. Produced by Epic Productions and distributed by Triumph Releasing (a Columbia Pictures subsidiary), Men at Work was Estevez's second outing as a writer-director, following his 1986 drama Wisdom. The project gave him the freedom to craft a film that played directly to the chemistry he shared with his brother — the same mix of bravado and goofiness that made it a cult favorite among fans of early-'90s video store comedies.Filmed primarily around Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, California, Men at Work embraced the laid-back coastal vibe of Southern California. The shoot was relatively quick and low-budget by Hollywood standards, with much of the film's tone shaped through improvisation between Estevez and Sheen. The movie's soundtrack captured the spirit of the late '80s and early '90s, featuring a mix of surf rock, funk, and classic rock tracks. While it didn't make waves critically, Men at Work found a second life on VHS and cable television, where its offbeat humor and brotherly banter turned it into a nostalgic favorite. Today, it stands as a snapshot of a more carefree era in comedy filmmaking — a time when movies about two guys, a truck, and a ridiculous situation could carry an entire Friday night rental. If you enjoy the show, we have a Patreon, so become a supporter here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryThey're brothers. They're garbage men. And they've just picked up more than they bargained for.Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez star in the ultimate blue-collar buddy comedy — where trash day turns into doomsday. Between the laughs, the chases, and the chaos, these two underdogs are about to clean up the streets… one bad guy at a time.Men at Work — crime, comedy, and complete rubbish.Fun FactsMen at Work was originally written as a dark political thriller, but Emilio Estevez reworked it into a comedy after deciding it would work better as a light-hearted buddy film.Estevez reportedly wrote the first draft of the script in the mid-1980s, years before the film was made, while he was still working on The Breakfast Club (1985).The movie's tagline — "Garbage men by day. Detectives by night." — was coined late in production as a tongue-in-cheek nod to 1980s action clichés.Estevez cast real-life surfer and character actor Keith David as Louis Fedders, the paranoid war veteran, after seeing his intense performance in John Carpenter's They Live (1988).The garbage truck used in the movie became something of a collector's item among fans and was later used in several low-budget TV shows filmed in California.Charlie Sheen's character's surfboard was custom-made by a local Hermosa Beach surf shop, and Estevez let Sheen keep it after filming. The film's theme song, “I'm Gonna Use What I Got,” was performed by The Rude Boys, adding to the film's distinctive late-'80s funk-rock vibe.Estevez and Sheen performed many of their own stunts, including the beach chase sequences, to save on the production budget.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

Join us as we salute the film's oh-so-predictable underdog triumphs, complete with hockey puck physics that somehow defy logic, all while admitting it's impossible not to cheer for those plucky peewees. Whether you're reliving your ‘90s glory days or just here for the Emilio Estevez glow-up, we'll break down why this ice-cold classic still melts hearts. Maximum Overdrive is a 1986 American horror film written and directed by Stephen King, in his only directorial effort. The film stars Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington, John Short, Yeardley Smith and Christopher Murney. The screenplay was inspired by and loosely based on King's short story "Trucks", which was included in the author's first collection of short stories, Night Shift, and follows the events after all machines (including trucks, radios, arcade games, vending machines, etc.) become sentient when Earth crosses the tail of a comet, initiating a worldwide killing spree. The film is King's only directorial effort, though dozens of films have been based on his novels or short stories. It contained black humor elements and a generally campy tone, which contrasts with King's somber subject matter in books. The film has a mid-1980s hard rock soundtrack composed entirely by the group AC/DC (King's favorite band), whose album Who Made Who was released as the Maximum Overdrive soundtrack. It includes the best-selling singles "Who Made Who", "You Shook Me All Night Long", and "Hells Bells".Maximum Overdrive was theatrically released on July 25, 1986, to critical and commercial failure. It was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards including Worst Director for King and Worst Actor for Estevez in 1987, but both lost to Prince for Under the Cherry Moon. King disowned the film, describing it as a "moron movie", and considered the process a learning experience, after which he intended never to direct again.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
We start things off in Austin, TX where Brendan Schaub has been let down by his son's performance on the baseball diamond. Remember when I said it's not smart for Bapa to rely on his nine year-old's athletic achievements to justify moving the entire family to Texas? Fly on the Wall had Charlie Sheen on and Emilio Estevez was kind of on the show, too. Chad Zumock received a compliment from Adam Busch and didn't know how to process it. Steel Toe is going to serve jail time and his cope is that it's actually going to be a great time and he probably won't want to leave his new friends. Stuttering John has three friends who are mad at him and poor Ava has to console him. Anthony Cumia can't wait to show up to court for StutJo's defamation suit. Opie just posted video of Stuttering John and Dave Attell guesting on Opie with Jim Norton. It turns out O&A breaking up wasn't Opie's fault at all. On Opie's morning stream we learn that Opie's daughter had a birthday party and a very special gift. Opie also has a hilarious bit about female hygiene products and Ron the Waiter is calling out Opie and reading private text messages. Charlie Sheen (The Book of Sheen, Two and a Half Men, Platoon) is a Golden Globe Award-winning actor. Charlie joins the Armchair Expert to discuss the lore of having not one but two of his cars stolen and pushed into a ravine, a two-decades-delayed apology to Dax, and why hiring a ghostwriter for his memoir was a dealbreaker. Charlie and Dax talk about how much of his story is impacted by being the little brother of Emilio Estevez, the math of time required in the attempt to work sustainably as an addict, and his patented ice cube trick. Charlie explains his fixes for Hollywood to stave off the pitfalls of corruptive fame, how leaning into his documentary made room for him to write The Book of Sheen, and that what's different now is the commitment to be true to his word.Follow Armchair Expert on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Dana and David welcome Charlie Sheen (and brother Emilio Estevez briefly). Charlie relives sitting shoulder-to-shoulder at Canelo vs. Crawford with David (and living to tell it), deconstructs the origin story of his most famous catchphrases, and shares what it was like growing up alongside Rob Lowe and Sean Penn. Charlie breaks down the legendary 10–90 deal where he bet on himself and WON, the blockbuster roles he passed on, his surprising memorabilia obsession, and the moment he was convinced Tom Cruise was Latin. WHEN PLANS CHANGE - FOR THE BETTER How many pilgrims were inspired to walk the Camino after seeing a movie set on the trail? For most people it was the movie The Way, with Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen. For my guest today it was the charming (although largely inaccurate) Hallmark movie, Journey to You. Jeff is recently retired, and his discovery of the Camino after watching the movie Journey to You, led to an immediate plot twist in his newly implemented retirement plans. Jeff asked some excellent questions, so you are going to get some more information on using trekking poles on the Camino – how to get the most benefit from them, and how not to lose your poles. And I've got some pro tips for you on staying in Roncesvalles. IS 2026 YOUR YEAR TO WALK THE CAMINO? Let's get started together. Spoiler: It's not.Highlights:Brad's nostalgia trip: "I watched this movie hundreds of times as a kid... mostly for the butt scene." The First Lady's revelation: "I didn't even know there was a Young Guns 1. Who knew?" A deep dive into the movie's budget: "How did this cost only $20 million? Did they pay the actors in Monopoly money?" The riveting debate: Is Young Guns 2 better than The Cowboy Way? Episode 242 is here with some fantastically fun scifi movies! We start off with "Slipstream" from 1989. Starring Mark Hamill and Bill Paxton with a truly impressive upporting cast. It's an interesting post-apocalyptic story that largely focuses on AI and the ultimate question of just what makes something "alive". It has issues here and there but it's really throught-provoking and moves along at a quick pace. We follow that with 1992's "Freejack" which stars Emilio Estevez and Mick Jagger. This one also has an amazing amount of A-Listers filling in the cast. The story here involves a sort of time travel and the pursuit of immortality. Big themes, big action set-pieces, and very big ambitions throughout! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. This week on Radio Labyrinth Podcast, we welcome actor John Kapelos — a true legend of film and television. You know him as Carl the Janitor in The Breakfast Club, Dino in Weird Science, and Rudy in Sixteen Candles. Beyond his John Hughes classics, John takes us back to his early days at Second City Chicago, his hilarious work on SCTV, and of course his unforgettable turn on Seinfeld as Barry the Sniffing Accountant. We also hear the story of how he accidentally insulted Emilio Estevez to his face on the set of The Breakfast Club, plus plenty more behind-the-scenes stories from his career spanning movies, TV, and comedy stages.
The year was 1986, and the Brat Pack—a group of hot young actors that folks associated with each other—was on top of the world. Then these three movies were released, and that was basically the the end of that. BLUE CITY (1986, Michelle Manning) OUT OF BOUNDS (1986, Dick Tuggle) WISDOM (1986, Emilio Estevez)
This week we welcome our buddy Ethan Thompson, who came back from Alaska like Santa Claus with two amazing beers from Anchorage Brewing—one of our favorite breweries that cruelly refuses to distribute near us. While sipping those treasures, we dive into Darren Aronofsky's new crime caper Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler as a washed-up ballplayer who stumbles into a very bloody second act. To keep the outlaw energy flowing, we crack open Alex Cox's cult gem Repo Man, because nothing says “punk heist vibes” like aliens, generic 'food,' glowing car trunks, and Emilio Estevez in his prime.
