Erin Hicks Moon is here with us today, and I'm thrilled to have her. Erin has a new book coming out called "I've Got Questions: The Spiritual Practice of Having It Out with God," and it delves right into the tension at the core of so many of our spiritual lives - the push and pull between our faith and our doubts, our certainty and our questions. You know, we often treat faith as this neat, tidy package. We're supposed to have it all figured out, no loose ends, no messy questions. But Erin makes the case that true faith, the kind that really matters, is forged in the crucible of our doubts and our struggles. It's about wrestling with God, having the courage to look under the hood of our beliefs and ask the hard questions. Because the truth is, the world is a complicated place. Our lives are messy and uncertain. And if our faith can't withstand that, if it can't hold up under the weight of our questions, then what's the point? Erin is going to take us on a journey today, exploring how we can cultivate a faith that is vibrant, authentic, and unafraid to grapple with the big stuff. This is sure to be a thought-provoking conversation. So join us as we learn to be okay with asking questions. Erin Hicks Moon is a writer, podcaster, and storyteller who helps people disentangle faith by creating a kind and curious community that welcomes honest doubt and questions. She is the Resident Bible Scholar and host of the Faith Adjacent podcast, and senior creative at Podcast Media Group. A homesick Texan, she lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband and three children, where she bravely tries to live without yellow queso every day.Erin's Book:I've Got QuestionsErin's Recommendation:The Book of BelongingSubscribe to Our Substack: Shifting CultureConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. Marisi López is from Corrientes in the north of Argentina.  In 2005, she joined the Tompkins Conservation team in their work on the stunningly beautiful Iberá Park. The Tompkins started buying up land several decades ago, much to the dismay of the local people. However, when they realised that the park was bringing them jobs and saw the land regenerating, they became huge supporters.  Current projects within the park include reintroducing species such as the jaguar and the giant otter.  Marisi herself is working on opening up “Tourist Gateways” in order to provide more points of access for tourists and the local people.  You can find out more about the Ibera Project here: https://rewildingargentina.org/ibera-project/and about Kris Tompkins here: https://www.luxuriousmagazine.com/kristine-tompkins-saving-wildlife/This mini-series, interviews of women conservationists from Latin America, was created with the help of Erin Hicks of the Centre for Protected Area Management at Colorado State University.  You can find out more about the Centre for Protected Area Management and the great work they are doing with people who work in conservation all over the world here:  https://warnercnr.colostate.edu/cpam/I would love to hear any comments you might have on this episode and respond to any questions. Brave New Women hosted by Cecilia PoullainWhen Erin was serving as an environmental volunteer with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, she realised  that conservation starts with people.  So she did a Masters of Science in Conservation Leadership with a focus on human dimensions and is now a Project Manager at Colorado State University's Center for Protected Area Management.  The Center trains park rangers in Latin America and across the world.  Some national parks throughout the world have very limited human and financial resources to deal with the complex challenges they face. Park rangers, the men and women on the front lines of conservation, often work tirelessly to resolve these complex challenges with very little support.  By giving them hard and soft skills they need and fostering a support network, the Center aims on  giving them hope to succeed in the often dangerous and difficult task of protecting our planet.Erin talks about the particular challenges faced by women park rangers and how the Center has adapted its programmes to support them. She is a model of someone who lives to serve the greater good. If you would like to know more about the Center for Protected Management, their website can be found here:  https://warnercnr.colostate.edu/cpam/If you would like to know more about Erin, her website can be found here:  https://www.erinhicks.netI am running a free webinar - "Women Empower Women" - on Tuesday 27 April.  Check it out here:  https://mailchi.mp/ac893611d578/gu7xgku6p7I would love to hear any comments you might have on this episode and respond to any questions.  You can find me on the Brave New Women Facebook page, on Linkedin or on my website:  www.ceciliapoullain.comCecilia PoullainFounder of Brave New WomenCoach - Helping Women to Find their Voicewww.ceciliapoullain.comMusic:  Stephen Marquis www.songsta.com.au Editing: Talal BourokiCecilia PoullainFounder of Brave New WomenCoach - Empowering Women to Find their Voice

Elated was I when she agreed to chat all things crazy children, theater, conning our husbands into marrying us, how to love an Enneagram 3, the time suck and supreme delight that is instagram and what being President of the Zac Efron fan club really entails. This conversation was pure joy, and Erin is on my bucket list to meet in real life. It was an honor to chat with her for an hour - she's even better than her instagram stories make her out to be. (P.s. If you aren't watching her instagram stories, you aren't living.) Happy listening!

Dr. Erin Hicks' research focuses on galaxy evolution and the role that supermassive black holes play in shaping galaxies into what we see today. Key to explaining the significance of supermassive black holes is understanding Active Galactic Nuclei, galaxies in which a black hole is actively consuming the surrounding gas and dust. Through studying these galaxies Dr. Hicks aims to solve the mystery of how the evolution of a black hole and its galaxy are intertwined. Dr. Erin Hicks is an assistant professor in the UAA Physics & Astronomy Department and Director of UAA Planetarium & Visualization Theater. The event is held in honor of Stephen Hawking's 75 birthday.
