I'm pleased to interview one of our Biz Book Pub Hub Partners. Our Hub Partners are experts who support entrepreneurs along their author journey. What if you had a literary matchmaker, a creative consultant, and a publishing powerhouse all rolled into one? That's exactly what today's guest brings to the table. Known as “The Dear Abby of Publishing” and “The Literary Agent Matchmaker,” she's spent more than 20 years helping writers at every level, whether you're drafting your first chapter, prepping for a publisher pitch, or dreaming of seeing your story on the big screen. She's an award-winning author herself, but she's also the go-to expert behind the scenes, editing manuscripts for publishers, advising literary agents, and helping debut and established authors alike bring their books and platforms to life. Through her company, Your Book Is Your Hook!, she helps authors navigate every path to publishing, build marketing strategies that last beyond launch day, and even explore how to expand their story into film, TV, and theater. From nonfiction to novels, screenplays to children's books, she meets writers where they are—and helps them get where they want to go. She provides writers with the guidance, structure, and industry access to turn creative projects into real-world results. Please join me in welcoming Jennifer Wilkov. The global pet industry has long been riddled with problems. From low-welfare breeding practices to online scams, the darker side of pet rehoming often goes unchecked. But what if there was a way to combine animal protection with a sustainable, profitable business model? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I speak with Axel Lagercrantz, co-founder and CEO of Pet Media Group, the company behind platforms like Pets4Homes in the UK and Lancaster Puppies in the US. Axel shares the story of how two friends with backgrounds in finance and tech came together to rethink what ethical pet ownership and commerce should look like. Since 2018, PMG has been working to remove anonymity and reduce fraud across pet marketplaces by embedding ethical standards directly into their platform's infrastructure. We explore how PMG uses custom-built AI to scan tens of thousands of images every day for signs of mistreatment, as well as to flag suspicious documentation and chat messages. Axel explains why ID verification, device fingerprinting, and real-time fraud detection are essential to maintaining user trust, especially in a high-emotion, high-value market like pets. He also talks through the company's expansion model, which focuses on acquiring local leaders and embedding PMG's standards from the ground up. With operations now spanning six countries and a 50 percent EBITDA margin, PMG's approach proves that protecting animals and scaling a business are not mutually exclusive goals. What stands out most is Axel's clarity of purpose. PMG isn't trying to digitize pet sales for convenience alone. The mission is to create a global infrastructure that prioritizes the welfare of animals and builds lasting trust between buyers and responsible breeders. If you care about technology that delivers real-world impact, this conversation will change how you think about one of the most overlooked parts of the digital economy.

The union that represents reporters at Central Oregon’s 122-year-old newspaper is negotiating its first contract with the corporation that bought the outlet last fall. Carpenter Media Group has already laid off nonunion workers at the Bulletin, like the paper’s copy editor, but the Central Oregon NewsGuild says that a contract - and the worker protections it would include - must be in place before any union layoffs could be made. The company has acquired more than 30 newspapers in Oregon alone, including the Pamplin Media Group - and approximately 250 others in the U.S. and Canada. The NewsGuild unit has taken the unusual step of urging subscribers to cancel their subscriptions if the corporate management does not agree to their demands. The Carpenter Media Group declined our request to be interviewed and sent a statement that said it is “dedicated to preserving and strengthening community journalism in the communities we serve.” The company has made deep cuts in other local media outlets it has acquired. Central Oregon NewsGuild leader Morgan Owen is a crime and public safety reporter for the Bend Bulletin. She joins us to share the latest in the story that’s unfolding at her paper.
Marketing can often feel like a mystery, especially when it comes to getting real, measurable returns. And for those running boutique agencies, seeing firms land high-profile clients like Fortune 500 companies can spark the big question: How did they do that? In this episode, I sit down with Jhara Valentini of Valentini Media Group, whose client list includes iconic names like Louis Vuitton, Diane von Furstenberg, Goop, Disney, and Hello Sunshine. As her agency approaches its ten-year anniversary, Jhara shares how she's built a powerhouse team, created consistent results for clients, and turned dream accounts into lasting partnerships. We dive into her client acquisition strategy, what keeps clients coming back, how she defines success, and so much more. Send us a textSummary: In this episode of the PIO podcast, Kent Keller, former police officer and now CEO of OS Media Group, shares his journey from law enforcement to marketing for public safety agencies. He discusses the importance of community engagement, the challenges public information officers face, and how his company aims to support smaller agencies with their communication needs. Keller also explores the role of social media and AI in public safety, and offers insights into the future of public information officers and best practices for effective communication.Kent's BIO: Kent Keller is a retired police officer who now lives in the Omaha-Metro area after serving more than 11 years in Northern Colorado. Kent's last assignment as a sworn officer was as the Greeley Police Department's PIO & Media Relations Manager. Due to a career-ending on-duty car accident, Kent founded OS Media Group and transitioned to being the Greeley Police Department's first-ever civilian contracted PIO & Media Relations Manager. While serving in this new capacity, Kent & OS Media Group more than doubled the Greeley Police Department's followers across all social media channels. In addition, they increased GPD's community engagement, helped skyrocket apprehensions of career criminals, completely refreshed the look of their brand, authored hundreds of press releases, and deployed tens of thousands of social media posts. Community Outreach campaigns and techniques started in Greeley by OS Media Group have been adopted by several other Denver-Metro police and public safety agencies. Kent also recognized a need and lack of support for small to medium-sized public safety agencies to have the same access to excellent social media management and branding assets, even if they didn't have the same budget. Kent and his team can help you connect better with your community or step in and do it for you. You can see more examples of OS Media Group's work and client success stories at OSMGMarketing.com. The house built around diversity, equity and inclusion is coming apart brick by brick. Since last summer, brands, retailers, holding companies and, most recently the federal government, have been dismantling (or retooling) DEI initiatives, many of which were built up after the murder of George Floyd and subsequent Black Lives Matter Movement of 2020. The “diversity” portion of diversity, equity and inclusion has become divisive, impacting multicultural marketing agencies, Black-owned brands and diverse publications. And they're starting to feel the ripple effects, according to Kirk McDonald, CEO of Sundial Media Group, holding company for brands like Essence magazine, Afropunk festival and Refinery29. Although, he said, it's too early to tell the full impact DEI's retooling (or rebrand) will have on the industry in terms of media spend, marketing budgets or consumer habits. McDonald recently sat down with the Digiday Podcast to talk about how Sundial's diverse publications, geared toward women and other historically marginalized communities, are navigating the pushback.

We've enhanced our services and support, and we continue to find ways to better understand and meet our partner's needs. And to do that, we've intentionally dug deeper, into the challenges and opportunities our partners face, and we've created resources around them. We're so committed to giving hotels the tools they need to achieve their goals and succeed, especially as guest expectations evolve. Ryan Embree: Yeah, and that's key.
