Our motivating passion gives us no other choic, something inside just won't let us stop. I think we begin to find that motivating passion when we ask the question, "Will Jesus remember me?"

Remember Us by Jacqueline WoodsonSage remembers that one summer when everything seems to be the same, yet changing. It was the summer she really remembers the fires, all the fires in the neighborhood, and worrying whose house would burn down next. Would it be hers? Would those blankets in the the closet her mom gave people whose houses had burned down be used for themselves? And it was the summer she met Freddy, who became a true friend, especially when she began to question all she thought she knew about herself. Recommended for grades 8 and up, only because it is a book that students need some life perspective to read. Completely fine for grades 6 and up in terms of age appropriateness of the content.

“Midnight Magic” and Pure Energy, the R&B/funk/dance group that brought it to life andwill release it September 8, have more in common than creator/creationLisa wrote the vocals and the melody. Curtis Hudson, lead guitarist and vocals, addedthe funk twist, brother Ray Hudson is the bass guitarist, and together they have putsome magic in “Midnight Magic.” The song is a hot, hopping, purely fun dance trackAnd the video tells visual stories of people waking to the magic of midnight, showcasesCurt and Ray in all their glorious funk, and if Lisa's magnificent, soaring vocals don'tlevitate you right off the floor, you might be dead.Pure Energy — Curtis, Lisa and Ray — are also looking for some magic at midnight. The song was written back in the early '80s, when the group was hot but the musicindustry was often geared more toward snuffing fire instead of sparking it.Pure Energy disbanded in 1984, at least as a performing, recording entity.Until this year.“We were always trying to put songs out on other artists,” said Ray. “We decided ‘Hey,we need to try to get some exposure for some of this material we have,' like Madonnaand other people we started working with. And we found that that was working for us.”Madonna and a song she made famous, “Holiday,” illustrate the point. Curtis and Lisawrote “Holiday,” regarded as the single that really launched Madonna's career.“We actually wrote that song for our group, Pure Energy,” said Lisa. “We presented it toour record company, and they said it wasn't a hit. And Madonna did it and, you know, the rest is history.”“We thought we could have done ‘Holiday,' but our record company didn't hear it forus,” said Ray. “That kind of helped us decide we need to go a different direction.”The group formed in the mid-'70s. Their first single, “Party On,” made it to No. 7 on theBillboard Dance Charts. Members of the group served as writers and producers forother artists, including Jean Carne, Maxine Singleton, Wranda Rawlins and LaurieceHudson. Curt wrote and produced “Body Work,” which became a hit for the group Hot Streak onits platinum soundtrack for the movie Breakin'. “Body Work” was also sampled by MissyElliot for her 2005 worldwide hit “Lose Control,” which was nominated for Best RapSong at the Grammys and won a Grammy for best short form music video.Curtis also co-wrote the song “Remember Us” for John Legend, which earned Legend aGrammy for Best R&B Artist in 2021. With his and Lisa's son, Eric Hudson, Curtis alsoco-wrote two songs on the Isley Brothers' new album, Make Me Say It Again Girl. Curtand Eric teamed up to produce “Midnight Magic.”Eric himself is a five-time Grammy winning producer who has written and produced forsuch artists as Whitney Houston, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, John Legend, Usher, andThe Weekend. Now, Lisa, Ray and Curtis are ending almost 40 years of temporary disbandment. They never stopped believing in Pure Energy. They never stopped performing, writing andcollaborating.

The human soul seems hardwired to long for atonement—a strong, sometimes desperate, desire for forgiveness and release. This is a sentiment that echoes across cultures and religious practices, revealing a shared yearning to be set right with God. We find in the story of the Akedah a vivid representation of how far God was willing to go to grant us that atonement. "God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son," Abraham tells Isaac, echoing a promise fulfilled through Jesus (Genesis 22:8). Akedah literally means, “The Binding,” and recounts the story of Abraham taking his “one and only son” Isaac to the top of Moriah to sacrifice him. In Jewish tradition, the Akedah resurfaces each year during Rosh Hashanah services, serving as a collective meditation on obedience, sacrifice, and divine intervention. The sound of the shofar, the ram's horn, harkens back to that moment when God provided a ram to replace Isaac. This narrative reverberates today as Jews consider God's provision and await the coming of the Messiah. Yet for many, the realization that the Messiah has already come remains an unopened gift. As we read in Hebrews 11:19, Abraham "considered that God was able even to raise [Isaac] from the dead." This faith foreshadows the faith we're called to have in Jesus, Yeshua in Hebrew, as the ultimate sacrifice and the final unbinding of sin. Let's pray today for our Jewish brothers and sisters to recognize Yeshua as their atonement and their freedom from spiritual bondage.

In our continuing effort to look at the personal stories of hope coming out of the war in Ukraine, the Bucks are proud to interview Mary Meaney and Annie Tregouet, two residents of St.-Omer, France who are among the many townspeople of this beautiful village who have opened their hearts and homes to over 500 Ukrainian refugees. Mary has spearheaded this all-volunteer effort simply because she wanted to do more than watch the tragedy of Ukraine on TV. She wanted to make a real difference and she did. Her whole story is very powerful and is more than we can cover in 30 minutes. Annie has been instrumental in having the adult refugees learn French through intensive courses. Annie and her husband Paul are also instrumental in getting much-needed medical supplies to to Ukrainian combatants. This is the website for Mary's charity in St-Omer.  It's not in English but we wanted you to see it.  MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR YOU, their US affiliate is Remember Us, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, to which you can donate directly to help Ukrainian refugees.  That's rememberus.org.To learn more about how Mary worked with Imperial College London to develop a blueprint for other communities to use in setting up similar programs, use this link.To donate much-needed medical supplies to the front lines in Ukraine, go to this Amazon-France website, where you will find a prioritized wishlist. Yes, it's in French but you click in all the same places to complete your order. In the shipping section, be sure to click on the Tomasz address. Otherwise it will end up at your doorstep. Finally, if you want to read more about this amazing and ongoing success story in Mary's own words, send a note to buckstwwold@gmail.com and we'll send you a presentation she made to Imperial College London. Sorry, we don't yet have the ability to hang it on our website.Quite a story, don't you think?  Tell us what you think.  And please forward this podcast to anyone you know who wants to support and learn more about the brave Ukrainian refugees and how a few people were able to make such a difference in their lives because they cared and because they stood up and did something about it.Give us your thoughts: BUCKSTWOOLD@GMAIL.COM Find us on Twitter: @twooldbucks1Leave a Voice message - click HERE

Almost six years old when she and her mother were forced into a full cattle truck and sent to Auschwitz II, also known as the Birkenau extermination camp, while her father was transported to Dachau.  Tova witnessed atrocities that she could never forget and experienced numerous escapes from death. That comes with a survivor's obligation to represent 1.5 million Jewish children murdered by the Nazis. They cannot speak. So I must speak on their behalf." - TOVA FRIEDMAN"WE REMEMBER" SERIES:EPISODE 2 OF 2  ON HOLOCAUST EDUCATIONNovember which coincides with the anniversary of Kristallnacht, November 9-10, 1938, was a significant turning point in the persecution of European Jews by the Nazi regime.  It was also called "The Night of Broken Glass." This night was the beginning of the violent rage against the Jews. In the late hours of November 9th, Nazi mobs torched and vandalized synagogues and homes and destroyed thousands of buildings that Jews owned.   And they murdered close to 100 Jews. In the aftermath of Kristallnacht ("Crystal Night" or the "Night of Broken Glass"), some 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. German Jews had been subjected to repressive policies since 1933 when Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany. However, before Kristallnacht, these Nazi policies had been primarily nonviolent. After Kristallnacht, conditions for German Jews grew increasingly worse.Click to get more insight into how to be inspired: https://findinginspiration.lifeSOCIALS:Follow on Twitter:   @BrainyJenniferFollow on Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/findinginspiration.lifeFollow on Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100079913817936YouTube handle:  youtube.com/@findinginspirationshow Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIxd4M_hu35gvXBxtwqjMTwhttps://www.3gmiami.org/https://findinginspiration.life/ @kingsleyben2020#daughterofauschwitzlinktr.ee/tovatok@tovatiktok@montanatucker#HolocaustEducation #auschwitzsurvivor #neverforget #neveragain #standuptohate #stopantisemitism #grandchildrenofholocaustsurvivors #3G #weremember   #WeRemember@worldjewishcongress@auschwitz#yomhashoah@ViktorFranklll@LucyLipiner#shoah#dehumanization@MalcolmBrabant #auschwitz #shoah #ww #neverforget #weremember #worldwar #israel #neveragain #jewish #wwii #poland #holocaustmemorial #annefrank #jewishhistory #concentrationcamp #jews #onthisday #germany #remember
