He created and produced, ‘The Cork Dorks'. The show was hosted with Adam and his good friend Jeremy West. It was the first of its kind. It began focusing on central coast wineries but as the show grew, so did their ability to travel and meet other winemakers they found everywhere from Napa to Bordeaux that adopted that same Central Coast quality of people willing to share their wines, and their stories. As the area's producer's grew, soon Adam's interview's covered everything from spirits, craft beer, cider, cuisine, hospitality, and more. Fast forward to today, the spirit and enthusiasm cultivated with the award winning show, is reborn as The Pour with Adam Montiel, this time independently, and unfettered by corporate authority leaving it even more free to share the journey of making wine more approachable and fun for everyone. If you're ready to empower yourself to step into your true purpose but are paralyzed by fear, what-ifs, and imposter syndrome, you've found the right conversation. Today's guest is Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, the nation's largest grassroots group fighting gun violence in the U.S. Like many of us, Shannon was left outraged and broken after hearing news stories about school shootings and seeing the impact of gun violence on communities across the countries. One night, her sadness transformed to rage, and her life was changed after a Facebook post kicked off what would become Moms Demand Action, a movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. They work to pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of families and communities. They know that gun violence is preventable, and they are committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe. Shannon has been named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People, a Forbes 50 over 50 Changemaker, and a Glamour Woman of the Year. She's also someone who went through an extraordinary transformation, and this is the focus of her and Dr. Alexandra's conversation, and of her new book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age. Shannon empowers folks to break free from limits, trust their instincts, and lead with passion to create meaningful change. Shannon and Dr. Alexandra talk about activism and the way it impacts relationships, particularly marriage, and Shannon shares how her own marriage evolved as she went through this incredible unfolding. Our guest today is Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America—the largest grassroots movement in the country. Back in 2012, Shannon began her career in activism when she posted a call to action on Facebook to end gun violence, in response to the horrors of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Her message was met with an overwhelming response, and soon after, the mother of five and former communications executive founded Moms Demand Action. Although Shannon stepped down as the founder in 2023, she continues to work to mobilize massive change on the boards of Emerge America—an organization dedicated to recruiting and training women to run for office—and Advance Peace—a community-based organization focused on ending gun violence. And now, she's joining us right ahead of the launch of her second book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age. Her inspiring story includes:completing her education while battling undiagnosed ADHD.unexpectedly becoming the leader of the largest grassroots movement in the countrytaking on the gun lobby and facing frightening pushback.avoiding the trap of “founders' syndrome.”and what it means to live a life that's on fire.On Sali: Argent Copain Blazer and Maybelle Pocket TeeOn Shannon: Argent Tuxedo Blazer, Stretch Blouse, and Cropped Straight Leg Trouser Work Friends Credits:Hosted by Sali Christeson @salichristesonProduced by Gina Marinelli @ginaalilbitEdited by Ryan WoldoffTheme Song by Karina DePiano @sheplaysdepiano & Melanie Nyema @melanienyemaRecorded at Podstream Studio @podstreamstudioWork Friends is produced by ARGENT (www.argentwork.com), a women's clothing label on a mission to redefine workwear and drive forward women's progress. "Motherhood is the ultimate experience of caring for others. Beyond biological motherhood, as a mother, you create something new in this world, you care for our interconnectedness with each other, you are thinking about others just as much as you're thinking about yourself, if not more so."Anna Malaika Tubbs is a powerhouse voice in the world of storytelling and social justice. She's a New York Times bestselling author with a focus on addressing gender and race issues in the United States, especially the pervasive erasure of Black women. Her debut book, The Three Mothers, re-centered the lives and legacies of the mothers of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin. And in her newest book, Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden From Us, she brings together research, the stories of freedom fighters past and present, and her own experiences to explain the impact of American patriarchy. During our conversation, Anna and I discuss how her mother's views on motherhood encouraged her to be an activist and feminist, how she turned her research and policy expertise into storytelling, and why she's focused on telling stories to help us understand that we don't see Black women as full human beings. To read more inspiring stories from Firestarters like Anna, preorder my book Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age at firedupbook.com.My new book Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age, is available for preorder! (Part 2): How much can your tender heart hold? Healing from heartbreak challenges you to love yourself in ways that can feel unnatural after experiencing the trauma + grief from loss of what you once loved, which can also lead to loss of Self. These defining moments (think the Tower card in Tarot) ask you to face the reality + beauty in the unknowing. To surrender the control of what should have happened, and lean into your inner Gypsy spirit. In this wildly beautiful and intimate conversation with singer/songwriter Veronica Graham, we uncover what it means to reinvent yourself after heartbreak, and how she uses the frequency and feeling of her music and lyrics to channel grief, deep soul healing, and a love for herself that defies all odds. I found Veronica in watching an episode of HGTV's House Hunters “Remote Living” and felt her spirit without even knowing her story. I felt a deep calling to reach out, as if I knew her as my soul sister in another realm. "I am a very heart-driven person. And as a woman you feel like you need to suppress that in certain spaces, or it can be belittled. I'm working on embracing and celebrating that that is exactly the kind of medicine I bring to this life—that curiosity, thinking, and expressing, but also a deep empathy that is powerful and not weak."Jamia Wilson was born in America, the child of civil rights activists, but spent her formative years growing up in Saudi Arabia. Later, she returned to America, believing it to be both her calling and obligation to fight for the nation's promises to its citizens through her unique form of activism: writing. After becoming the first Black woman and youngest person to hold the job of executive director and publisher at the Feminist Press, Jamia moved to Random House where she mentors other authors and ensures diverse voices are elevated. Jamia is out with her own book, Make Good Trouble: Discover Movements that Sparked Change, which combines her love of writing with activism by encouraging young readers to engage in democracy. During our conversation, Jamia and I discuss what it was like to grow up as a Black child in another country and what it was like to return to America; how her parents' activism and encouragement shaped her world view; and why, as an author, she's so focused on connecting with younger generations of Americans. How much can your tender heart hold? Her dynamic between her and her father's, who she calls her “rock” through life's challenges was incredibly inspiring and I hope you find peace in your heart from this conversation + our spiritual synergy!!! "You don't know when you're pollinating the world with your attempts how they'll come back to you. It might be completely nonlinear. You knock on the same door 20 times and then it's actually a door to the left, down the hall, across the country that opens for you."As a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, a Tony Award nominee, and the recipient of the MacArthur Genius Fellowship, playwright Sarah Ruhl is no stranger to accolades. After writing about the passage of time during the pandemic, her experience developing Bell's palsy after pregnancy, and her friendship through letters with a poet in remission from cancer, Sarah is sharing the lessons she taught her students at Yale in her new book, Lessons from My Teachers: From Preschool to the Present. This intimate essay collection is a testament to the bond that develops between teacher and student and how we learn from one another. In this conversation, Sarah and I discuss her feminist father who encouraged her to follow her desires, what she learned from an important teacher about handling rejection, and why we should all send a note of gratitude *right now* to the important teachers in our life—before it's too late to matter.Sarah is a canny observer of the human condition, a prolific and gifted writer, and a truth teller whose stories unlock truths about the human condition. Life's unpredictable challenges can leave us feeling spiritually wrecked and abandoned by God. Drawing wisdom from the disciples' experience after Jesus' ascension, we discover three vital tactics for navigating spiritual struggles: staying connected through consistent prayer, remaining driven through Scripture reading, and maintaining orientation through worship. These practices aren't merely survival tools - they position our hearts to receive from God. Even in moments of spiritual wreckage, God remains present and sovereign, working through His Spirit in believers today. ALIVE has been revived - Welcome to Season 2 of the podcast!!! After much introspection + and an inner calling to take a step back from the show last September 2024 (the 4 Year Anniversary celebration episode #133), I have had many divine downloads + fresh perspectives that I'm excited to unleash here JUST FOR YOU! It also felt divinely timed to release in May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month + my birth month! (May 12th) Opening Season 2 is a divinely inspired conversation with Sarah Lynne Mosser, Reiki Master, Quantum Healer, and Energy Intuitive, also known as @sincerelyspiritual on Instagram. As the title alludes, we deep dive into what it means to be a soul having a human experience, and how to navigate this Age of Aquarius, or Golden Age consciousness for those who are feeling the frequencies and calling to RISE into this new reality we are all experiencing as a collective. Sarah and I also explore the concepts of seeking validation, and why society puts people on pedestals which is evolving more into the energies of "only the authentic + real will survive", as Sarah says, and the downfall of the Hollywood/guru mentality! Also deeply intriguing in the spirit of inner child therapy is the concept of "Crystal Children" and what it means to Live in Your Dharma, or your destined soul's calling. About Sarah Lynne Mosser: I'm a Reiki Master, living in Austin, TX. I'm originally from California, I have a degree in Psychology and a 5 year old son who is a crystal child. I had my true spiritual awakening 10 years ago. A lifelong empath, who is now fully understanding and stepping into my intuitive gifts. I'm a constant seeker and lover of astrology, numerology, oracle cards, and everything multidimensional. I also read auras and work with clients on energy and spiritual healing. When I Really Come Alive - Wildflowers
Life often leads us down unexpected paths, taking us away from where we intended to be in our relationships, emotions, finances, and faith. When we head in the wrong direction, we're essentially moving away from Jesus, yet He actively pursues us and walks alongside us, even when we don't recognize Him. Through Scripture and His presence, Jesus works to redirect our path and create a burning desire in our hearts for Him. By examining our lives, releasing our limited perspective, and intentionally pursuing Jesus, we can find our way back to the right path. Description: Today's guest, Shannon Watts, has come to be known as a formidable force in the world. As the founder of Moms Demand Action, the largest grassroots movement against gun violence formed after the Sandy Hook school shooting tragedy in 2012, her activism has mobilized millions of moms to successfully pass over 500 gun safety laws. As Amy poignantly stated, Shannon's work “has legitimately made a tangible impact on the safety of my kids in their classrooms”, demonstrating the profound significance of Shannon's contributions. Watts has since shifted her time and attention to empowering women, whom she credits as the real changemakers in any movement. She has founded the Firestarter School, a platform designed to help women reclaim their power and has a forthcoming book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age, releasing in the summer of 2025, which explores the necessary elements needed to ignite a fire in your life and pursue your passion and purpose. Thought-provoking Quotes: When you get involved in something like activism, it helps you realize that you have all of this untapped power. And it does give you the audacity to become a firestarter, to prioritize your desires over your obligations. – Shannon Watts Right out of college, I married my college sweetheart at 23-years-old. By the time I was 29, I had three children. I have a job I don't love. By my mid-thirties, I realized, this is not the person I would have chosen to be. I was having a difficult time acknowledging that I was living a life that was not true to me. – Shannon Watts So many women keep collecting new fuel, acquiring new skills, waiting for the other pieces to come together. And we're prepared when the opportunity presents itself. – Amy Hardin Society shoulders women with so many burdens so she doesn't have room to explore her desires. If you're going to claim space, raise your voice, you are going to get blowback. The direct proportion of how much you can grow your fire corresponds to how much blowback you're willing to withstand. – Shannon Watts Remind yourself of your wins everyday, whether they're your wins or wins for what you want to see in the world. Give yourself hope and affirmation. – Shannon Watts Fighting for your safety and your rights is a form of self-care and a form of protection for other people. – Shannon Watts Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Camino Made (B.T.
