Her work sits at the fascinating intersection of ethics, decision-making, and human behavior. In Dr. Sah's new book, “Defy: The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes,” she explains why it's so difficult to speak up even when we know something is wrong, and she provides readers with simple tools to help them make decisions that align with their values. To read more about inspiring stories about Firestarters like Dr. Sah, grab a copy of my new book Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age at firedupbook.com.Join me on my book tour! Whether you're a manager trying to move your organization in a new direction, an entrepreneur seeking to fix a consumer pain point, or a non-profit leader working to improve society, it can be hard to turn your and others' passion for a cause into meaningful change. Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, a gun safety advocacy group, shares how she channeled her anger over U.S. school shootings into an organization with more than 10 million supporters and a string of policy victories. She explains how to know when your desires, values, and skills align to tackle a challenge, how to build a coalition, and how to keep people motivated, Watts is the author of the book Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age.
Tired of living on autopilot while your dreams sit on the back burner? Shannon Watts knows that restlessness. Before founding Moms Demand Action and earning accolades including Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential, Shannon was an overwhelmed mom who broke down in a doctor's office, covered in stress-induced eczema from living a life that no longer worked. In her new book "Fired Up," Shannon shares her transformation from breakdown to fired-up founder of a grassroots movement against gun violence and champion of "summoning the audacity of women." You'll discover how to identify what's truly calling you, push through the fear of being "too late," and give yourself permission to live audaciously at any age. This week I am re-playing my interview with advocate, Substacker, and "summoner of women's audacity," Shannon Watts in honor of the fact that her new book “Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age” released just last week. Shannon first entered that national conversation when she founded Moms Demand Action, the grassroots movement for common sense gun reform that began with a Facebook post the day of the Sandy Hook school shooting and has grown to include more than 10 million members. Shannon writes regularly for her Substack, Playing with Fire, and outlets like The Washington Post, Elle, Time, and more. She has also been named Glamour's Woman of the Year and one of Time's 100 Most Influential People.Since leaving Moms Demand Action, Shannon has been on a quest to motivate more women to use their voices to advocate for change, whether that's within their own families, workplaces, communities, states, the country, or the world. It was an honor to talk with her and we really broke it down, covering: - Knowing when it's time to transition out of what you've been doing- ADHD and how its effects have changed as she's gotten older- Switching gears from being a very public person who had to keep her private life private (to not feed the trolls) to a private person who talks about private things (menopause, ADHD) publicly- The incredible origin story of Moms Demand Action (or what I call, "the Facebook post heard 'round the world)- Her standing desk fail Thank you for listening! Shannon Watts thought she had it all figured out - marriage, three kids, and a steady job. But by her mid-thirties, she realized she was living someone else's life. After leaving an unfulfilling marriage and career, she spent years asking herself one crucial question: "What do I want?" That led her to found Moms Demand Action at age 41 after a mass school shooting - despite being an introvert with ADHD and a fear of public speaking. In this episode, Kelly reads a letter Shannon wrote to her younger self, where she shares her "fire formula" for transformation, why pursuing your desires is a radical act for women and how living authentically became her greatest legacy. In this episode of the Mid-Career Change podcast, I'm joined by visual strategist Ingrid Iill to explore how we can uncover the deeper patterns within our work – especially when things feel messy, scattered, or hard to define.Ingrid works with entrepreneurs and business leaders using a powerful and unique process called Signature Pattern Discovery. Through simple sketches and deep listening, she helps people see the organising principle at the heart of their work – the thread that weaves together their skills, story, personality and passions. We discuss what happens when your ideas feel disconnected, why clarity so often sits just beneath the surface, and how working visually can reveal insights that words alone might miss. Ingrid shares how her own breakthrough came during a mastermind weekend – involving late-night journalling, a pile of ideas, and a realisation that brought her work into sharper focus. We talk about the importance of working with the “mess” instead of resisting it, and why recognising your own Signature Pattern can bring calm, confidence, and clearer direction – whether you're running a business or navigating a mid-career transition. Thanks for listening! If you're ready to empower yourself to step into your true purpose but are paralyzed by fear, what-ifs, and imposter syndrome, you've found the right conversation. Today's guest is Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, the nation's largest grassroots group fighting gun violence in the U.S. Like many of us, Shannon was left outraged and broken after hearing news stories about school shootings and seeing the impact of gun violence on communities across the countries. One night, her sadness transformed to rage, and her life was changed after a Facebook post kicked off what would become Moms Demand Action, a movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. They work to pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of families and communities. They know that gun violence is preventable, and they are committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe. Shannon has been named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People, a Forbes 50 over 50 Changemaker, and a Glamour Woman of the Year. She's also someone who went through an extraordinary transformation, and this is the focus of her and Dr. Alexandra's conversation, and of her new book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age. Shannon empowers folks to break free from limits, trust their instincts, and lead with passion to create meaningful change. Shannon and Dr. Alexandra talk about activism and the way it impacts relationships, particularly marriage, and Shannon shares how her own marriage evolved as she went through this incredible unfolding. Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker recap the Blue Jays' series sweep of the Athletics, if they've bought in on Addison Barger and Ernie Clement, how John Schneider will fit Andrés Giménez back into the lineup, and if the Jays' hitters are finally adjusting to the ballpark with George Springer and Bo Bichette's uptrend in hitting. Then, Blue Jays radio analyst Chris Leroux stops by (23:40) to chat about where his concern levels are at with Jeff Hoffman's pitching, the expectations for him against facing his former team, if Barger can be a mainstay in the lineup, could Yariel Rodriguez be thrown into a closer role over Brendon Little and how Alejandro Kirk has performed with the workload he's been given behind the plate. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

(Part 2): How much can your tender heart hold? Healing from heartbreak challenges you to love yourself in ways that can feel unnatural after experiencing the trauma + grief from loss of what you once loved, which can also lead to loss of Self. These defining moments (think the Tower card in Tarot) ask you to face the reality + beauty in the unknowing. To surrender the control of what should have happened, and lean into your inner Gypsy spirit. In this wildly beautiful and intimate conversation with singer/songwriter Veronica Graham, we uncover what it means to reinvent yourself after heartbreak, and how she uses the frequency and feeling of her music and lyrics to channel grief, deep soul healing, and a love for herself that defies all odds. I found Veronica in watching an episode of HGTV's House Hunters “Remote Living” and felt her spirit without even knowing her story. I felt a deep calling to reach out, as if I knew her as my soul sister in another realm. Her dynamic between her and her father's, who she calls her “rock” through life's challenges was incredibly inspiring and I hope you find peace in your heart from this conversation + our spiritual synergy!!! A true joy to release this on my birthday week! If you've felt a deep desire to reinvent yourself, and gather the pieces of what feels lost, this episode will bring you life again!
