Choose To Be with Choose Recovery Services; Betrayal Trauma Healing

Whether you're in a romantic relationship or not, learning to create psychological safety for yourself after trauma is a huge principle of healing. When we talk about betrayal and all the loss that comes with betrayal trauma, we include the loss of your central nervous system to PTSD, the loss of trust, the loss of your self esteem, the loss of emotional regulation, and the loss of safety. Many of us don't even know that we're in charge of our own safety, and since we didn't have it in place before the betrayal happened, our next best option is to put it in place now. How to start creating psychological safety In the recovery world, it's often asserted that the partner who's caused the betrayal needs to create safety. And that's true… to an extent. But the second we rely on an external source to be the answer, we give away our power. The truth is, you don't have to wait on your partner to take action to feel safe. You already have the power to start creating the safety you need. You'll Learn: How to choose new thoughts that rewire your brain for psychological safety The importance of a community of support in your healing process Why noticing yourself and your own needs is an essential step toward safety Mentioned in the show: Facing Heartbreak: Steps to Recovery for Partners of Sex Addicts by Stefanie Carnes, PhD Ongoing Courses: Am I In An Abusive Relationship? - Free, self-paced workshop to help you identify key red flags that might be showing up in your relationship. Women have been so focused on taking care of someone else that they have forgotten how to take care of themselves. As women, we’ve come to accept phrases like, “What a wonder woman you are, I want to be just like you when I grow up!”, “How do you find hours in the day to do all that you do, you just blow me away!” as compliments, but if we are not making time each day for some self-care, then we are setting ourselves up for crises. Learning how to manage others’ expectations and knowing, naming, and maintaining boundaries is so important, and these are things that Mari teaches. Mari and Anna discuss the shaming messages we get around self-care. Mari explains FOG - Fear, Obligation, and Guilt. We all do self-care differently and need to lift each other up. This is what you’ll find at The Shine Retreat. Both Mari and Anna divulge their personal insights into how they each know they’re needing some self-care. The Shine Retreat is a place for a small group of women to come together and fully immerse themselves in taking a moment and pushing the pause button and asking themselves what they need. We sometimes struggle to articulate our needs. Mari shares some surprises to expect from the retreat - such as a workshop on the beach. Under the stars. And in your PJ’s! Women find a way to release guilt, shame, pain, responsibility, and leave with insight, knowledge, and tools, and a tribe of women. Open invitation to the Retreat. We can’t WAIT to meet you!! If you suspect that your partner, someone you love and trust most in the world, is hiding a secret life as a sex addict from you, it can be devastating and traumatizing. The world can feel like it's crashing down around you. Many partners of sex addicts have been fooled by the promises made by the addict even late in recovery, and find themselves starting the process all over again. The broken promises, the secrets and discoveries, the continuous lying—either deliberately or by omission—can be the most debilitating aspects of sex addiction. Many betrayed partners talk about their feelings of shock, confusion, humiliation, and anger. Discovering the deception is a lightning bolt that forever changes their world. Finally, there is a resource that can help partners whether they choose to stay in the relationship or not. Facing Heartbreak: Steps to Recovery for Partners of Sex Addicts (Gentle Path Press, 2012) takes readers through a series of specific tasks and exercises that educate, empower, and guide the partners of sex addicts through a process of recovery as they reclaim their lives from heartbreak and betrayal to hope and healing. Sexual Addiction is a disorder that requires strategies to assist you in maintaining recovery. This show is to help you access the books, the experts and the people who are managing recovery with The 12 Step Program and Patrick Carnes Recovery Task Model that reinforces the steps you need to take to manage your recovery and take your life through the journey so that you not only conquer the "Addict" but develop into the person you were meant to be!
