The Black SwanThe Black Swan Full Book Introduction Before the discovery of the first black swan, people were convinced that all swans were white. Hence, a “Black Swan” indicates an unexpected and impactful rare event. From the financial crises to the sinking of the Titanic, or the September eleven attacks, “Black Swans” exist in all fields. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the nature and the rules of “Black Swans.” It enables us to understand both how society operates, and how to gain the upper hand in this uncertain world. Author : Nassim Nicholas TalebNassim Nicholas Taleb is a researcher at the New York University Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. He is the author of several bestselling books, such as ‘Fooled by Randomness', ‘An-tifragile', and ‘Skin in the Game'. As a practical researcher of “uncertainty,” Taleb has written fifty academic papers investigating “uncertainty” and is known as a thinker with “rare courage and broad knowledge.” His thoughts and works have influenced a large population of readers worldwide. He has also helped in making the “Black Swan” become a household concept. Overview | Chapter 1Hi, welcome to Bookey. Today we will unlock the book ‘The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable'. If someone said that tomorrow is always full of unknowns and risks, you may think that they are being a bit alarmist. However, this was true of September the tenth, two thousand and one. Who could have ever predicted that terrorist attacks would happen the very next day? These events stunned the entire world. That morning, terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners. One of the planes crashed on the ground. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. The sky was filled with clouds of smoke, and both towers collapsed within two hours. The fourth plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington and partially damaged the building. Nobody on those four planes survived. About three thousand people were killed, six hundred more than the victims of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It can be said that the September eleventh attacks destroyed the entire World Trade Center and part of the Pentagon. But more importantly, it damaged America's sense of peace and security. What was shocking about the attacks were not only its sudden and disastrous consequences, but also why the Unites States of America, which has the world's most advanced means of communication and intelligence, failed to predict this long-planned plot. Now, you may have an idea about what the term “Black Swan” refers to. It indicates an unexpected and impactful event. It's beyond expectations and brings about immense influence. The September eleven attacks are a typical “Black Swan.” However, if you think that “Black Swans” are limited to national affairs, you are wrong. In fact, “Black Swans” are everywhere. They have an impact on issues ranging from national and social security, to our daily lives. Hence, let's see what the book ‘The Black Swan' has to say about why it's hard to predict a “Black Swan” and how we should cope with the unpredictable future. The author of this book, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, is a researcher at the New York University Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. He also wrote several bestselling books, such as ‘Fooled by Randomness', ‘Antifragile', and ‘Skin in the Game'. In his early years, he was a businessman and dealt with various financial products in New York and London. Now, he serves as a Distinguished Professor at New York University. ‘The Black Swan' is the epitome of Taleb's thoughts concerning “uncertainty”, and a book full of...

Many celebrities have recently announced that they have been diagnosed with skin cancer. Among them are Hugh Jackman, who was treated for skin cancer for a second time on his nose, and Andy Cohen, who was treated for melanoma on his lips. Both cancers developed on their faces, which is an area that can be life-altering because of their careers in front of a camera. Have you thought of how you would deal with it if you developed skin cancer on your face? Contrary to what many believe, skin cancer does not just affect older people, as is the case with Jackman and Cohen, who both are in their 50s. In recent years, skin cancer has increased among millennials and adults in their 40s and 50s. What is the underlying cause for the increase? Join Dr. Rady as he delves into this subject during the month of May, skin cancer awareness month. Tune in and learn to identify the different types of skin cancers, how we get them, and how to avoid them. Instagram: @DrRadyRahbanFacebook: @RadyRahbanMDTikTok: @RadyrahbanmdWebsite: Radyrahban.com

The big three US cloud players all announced earnings this past week and, as expected, cloud growth is slowing. But don't kid yourselves. Hyperscale clouds remain the epicenter of innovation in tech and foundation models like GPT will only serve to harden this fundamental fact. Our data suggests the deceleration in cloud spend is a function of two related factors: 1) Cautious consumption patterns; and 2) Aggressive cloud optimization, which is being promoted by the big three cloud vendors in an attempt to lock in customers to longer term commitments. There is still no clear evidence in the numbers that repatriation is a factor. Rather, the ability to quickly dial down spending and pause projects is an attractive feature of cloud computing and one that, until now, has never really been seen on a broad market basis. In this Breaking Analysis we try to explain the implications of this seemingly simple but nuanced dynamic. We'll review the latest hyperscale cloud data for the big three players, share our analysis of certain comments made by cloud executives and show you the latest ETR data on spending and market presence in the cloud.
For our last episode of Season 2, we talk about, what else??: how index funds are the freaking work horses of building a financial future for good reason.Caitlin grills Sara about a financial column she read that says what Sara has already been saying for two seasons (and 10 years before that): it's VERY VERY hard to beat the returns you can get over long periods of time when you invest in low-cost index funds. Like so hard that it's probably a fluke when it happens so don't believe anyone who says they have the winning strategy or insider knowledge. They don't. They can't. All of the studies for the past 20 years have shown this again and again. So, forget about the finance bros and pinstriped Wall Street “kings” who pretend they can pick the winners with their fancy words and boring golf stories. While they strive for fantasy heroics, you'll make more money than they will in the long term sticking to a long term index fund strategy based on reality and research. Also, Sara reminds us again how dangerous our own fear and greed buttons are to derail us from our deserved financial glory.Oh! Don't Be Fooled… Redistribution of Wealth … IS SOCIALISM! Signs of early Socialism. We the rich helping the poor is a redistribution of wealth. Home buyers will pay a fee on their mortgages through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The proposal is to charge a fee from the rich with good credit to pay the credit risk of the poor. A better policy as a nation should be to incentivize businesses, hiring people to promote a productive economy. Sitting at home and not working is not a plan of productivity. Venezuela is an example of a country we tried to destroy and now we're held hostage to buying their dirty oil because Biden refuses to objectively use our existing oil resources to promote our own productivity and independence. We cannot subsidize those that don't care! Separately, we seek justice against those, elected and bureaucrats, who did wrong, by this compromised President. Also complicit were: Comey, Clapper, Brennan, just a few, who steered the Russia narrative to take down Trump. Secretary of State Blinken and Attorney General Garland are now at the top of the list. A backlash against these wrong doers is coming. This sort of injustice is not going to stand, whether Biden pardons these wrongdoers or not.Don't Be Fooled… Redistribution of Wealth… IS SOCIALISM!Originally Aired: WMXI Radio on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 7:15am CSTSeason 1, Episode 96Special thanks to the following source(s) for the image(s) used in this content:https://www.pexels.com/photo/a-politics-text-posted-on-a-globe-8850825/Like What You Heard? Jeffrey A. Tucker (founder and president of the Brownstone Institute) returns with Dr. Kelly Victory to discuss Big Pharma's influence over healthcare in America, the upcoming 2023 Presidential Elections, and a recent Brownstone article that questions why so many of the world's smartest people – on both the Left and the Right – appear to have been fooled during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Suddenly, in 2020, some of the smartest people in the world — James Surowiecki, Naomi Klein, Nassim Taleb, Noam Chomsky, Slavoj Žižek, and so many more that you can name — stopped being smart,” writes Toby Rogers. “This happened all across the ideological spectrum. The test was simple — apply all of your smart social, economic, and political theories to the Covid response and vaccines… They all failed completely and catastrophically.” Jeffrey A. Nassim Taleb has never been shy about expressing his viewpoints on a wide range of topics. But lately he's been getting into verbal tussles with people who have long looked up to his wisdom. Whether it's Bitcoiners, venture capitalists, deadlifters, or anti-vaxxers, many people within these communities have admired his philosophy of antifragility. So why has he taken to arguing with them on Twitter? What exactly are they getting wrong about his ideas? And for that matter, why has he himself gotten into cycling lately? In this wide ranging conversation, the author of books such as Antifragile, The Black Swan, and Fooled by Randomness talks about all these topics and more — including how to think about reducing tail risk in one's own life. Join Mo Bina in this episode of the Purpose-Driven Wealth podcast as he talks with Gil Baumgarten about the Securities and Investment Industry and several key concepts to give you a unique insight into stock market investing. Here's what you will expect in this episode… How Gil started: from a broker to starting his own firm. On financial advice: difference between a broker and a fiduciary How Segment works with Schwab, their primary custodian. Advantages of ETF over actively managed mutual funds. Advantage of having an advisor Chasing hot stocks and generating losses. The way to build wealth. The kind of company Warren Buffet buys. Beta versus Alpha and the correct way to look at dividends. Talking about Gil's book Why people are making bad decisions on buying stocks. Understanding the market game. Finding somebody who understands the market. About Gil Baumgarten: Gil Baumgarten is a 38-year veteran of the securities and investment industry. After beginning his career at the venerable EF Hutton in the early 1980s, Gil became a top producer for UBS and Smith Barney, what is today Morgan Stanley. However, Gil found Wall Street routinely emphasized its own interests over those of the client. In 2010, Gil left the brokerage world to start Segment, a fee-only firm where the interests of the client could align with the interests of the firm. The Houston Business Journal ranks Segment among the Largest Houston-Area Wealth Management Firms.
