A college student accidentally solved an impossible math problem. George Dantzig arrived late to class to find his peers working silently on several math problems written on the chalkboard. George worked through the problems and turned his paper in. Later, he learned that one of those problems wasn't homework after all, but was an equation that mathematicians considered unsolvable. George solved the problem, simply because he didn't know it was supposed to be impossible. There's a lesson here for us as parents of boys. In a society that's increasingly negative towards men, let's be positive about the dreams and aspirations our sons have, even if they seem a little far-fetched. Who knows what they can accomplish if they live by Luke 1:37- With God, nothing is impossible. To learn about raising boys to be Godly-men, visit Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

In 1939, George Dantzig, a humble graduate student at Berkeley in San Francisco, changed mathematics history when he showed up 10 minutes late for his final exam. Listen in as we travel back to Northern California in the midst of the Great Depression to discover the powerful role that expectations can play in transforming your career and your life. In this episode of Classic Influence, we will also take a brief look at how people often unintentionally set themselves and others up for failure or success depending on the beliefs they hold, the words they use, and the frames they mindlessly adopt. Finally, we'll revisit one of the critical, recurring themes on this podcast: What you honestly think your future can become has a powerful effect on how your future turns out.

There's only ONE thing stopping you from achieving the goals and dreams you truly want to achieve: your beliefs. If we resign to “I'm not capable” or “it's never been done” then we let our perception win. But a belief can't stop you. Period. A belief in a limitation is more powerful than the limitation itself.   It's exactly how mathematician George Dantzig ended up solving the “unsolvable” math problem: he was late to a college lecture and mistakenly took an example of a problem that had never been solved for a homework assignment (full story in this episode). The story inspired a scene in the Academy Award-winning movie Good WIll Hunting and has become a famous example of the power of positive thinking and what one can accomplish when they're unaware of what's been labeled “impossible” by others.  In this episode, you'll learn:   Why we unconsciously talk ourselves out of things The first thing you should do when you find yourself trapped with a limiting belief The difference between people who achieve dreams and those who wish they did (it's nothing personal) The best thing to do when you stumble or get stuck on your journey  How to completely eliminate a limiting belief     Join The YES Effect Inner Circle Facebook Group for a behind the scenes experience about what it means to Believe, Belong and Become!   Join Shelli on Facebook Join Shelli on Instagram Join Shelli on YouTube
