On March 21, the Grove Hill After- School Adventure held a Career Fair for students in its program. Local businesses and businesses from the surrounding area set up tables in the gym at Grove Hill Elementary School where students could visit and learn about each business. The Grove Hill After-School Adventure 21st Century Community Learning Center has received several grant contributions from the Ala-Tom RC&D Council. Grant contributions have allowed the program, at Grove Hill Elementary School, to purchase a greenhouse and rebuild it following damage caused by severe weather. Ala-Tom also made possible the purchase of greenhouse supplies, tools for the workforce learning program, aqua-grow walls, and an ambient weather station. Grove Hill Elementary School was selected as one of the banner schools by the Council For Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) Monday, May 9, 2022, during an awards luncheon in Prattville. They recognized thirty Schools of Distinction across the eight State School Board Districts and announced the 2021 CLAS Banner Schools. Students and teachers at Grove Hill Elementary School will find a familiar face in the principal's office this year. Niquitha Merida, a 27- year veteran teacher at the school has been named principal to succeed Kathy Spidle, longtime principal, who has taken another job in the Clarke County school system. The book “Lucy Meets A Logger” was read to first grade students at Grove Hill Elementary and Clarke Prep School last week. Alabama Ag Commissioner Rick Pate read the book to the students at GHES last Thursday. They also heard from PCA Forester Patrick Gwin and the books author, Stephanie Fuller. The author stepped in and read her book to the first grade classes at CPS on Friday. Scotch Land Management Forester Grey Skipper also spoke to the class, explaining what a forester does each day.
