Gold Coast punk rockers Goatzilla have never been a band to conform to expectations or labels.Their sensational single “Drop Bear” was both humorous and dangerous at the same time and their approach to music in general – while never wavering – has always been with a firm do it yourself ethos that many profess but few embrace. After a period of inactivity shared by musicians globally, the band have emerged with a new lineup, a plethora of new music, and a slightly different sonic delivery hat only serves to emphatically prove that with Goatzilla the only thing you can take as gospel is the fact that they will continuously and tirelessly turn over every conceivable stone, rock or blade of grass that dares stand in their path.Latest single “Nightmare” is a breath of fresh air, albeit one that could be classed as stale air due to the fact it comes from a bygone era where music was loud, abrasive and in your face.It is an instant pub rock classic, dripping with all of the characteristics that have defined great rock outfits over the last four decades.Recorded with Guy Cooper at Serotonin Studios and using the guitar head used by Kurt Cobain on Nirvana's 1992 Australian tour, “Nightmare” is anything but.Goatzilla frontman Ben Zilla joined HEAVY earlier this week to talk about the track.“It has that early Aussie kind of rock sound,” he said, ”from the Alberts era. You had The Angels and Rose Tattoo and then later on you had bands like The Poor and the Screaming Jets so it's that kind of influence that we all share and we all love. We've all got a lot of influences and musical heroes. You got the heavy stuff, American hair metal, you have the Motley Crue style and the drummer is more into the current metal so he keeps us up to date (laughs). He also throws in some left of centre stuff so we've got all these different influences coming in there. This particular track is probably a lot more straight down the line Aussie pub rock but we've also got a bunch of newer stuff as well which has a lot of other influences in there that will be different for us as well. It's fun experimenting.”In the full interview, Ben talks more about the idea for “Nightmare”, the almost conceptual story of the lyrics and how it relates to the AC/DC classic “Jailbreak”, the shock value of releasing something completely different, upcoming new music and more.
In this episode we are joined by Oklahoma's own Marshall Plumb, owner and operator of Marshall's Racing in Stillwater, OK and one of the organizers for the Oklahoma State Championship Series. However, most people outside of Oklahoma probably know Marshall as one of the most tenured members of the professional motocross and supercross pits. Marshall started his career as a mechanic in his home country of Canada and later moved to the US where he tuned Guy Cooper and Bryan Swink to national championships in the early 90's. He remained a professional mechanic through the late 90's and eventually landed at Dunlop Tires where he still works on the weekends today. Marshall has an incredible story and the Oklahoma moto scene is fortunate to have him.

Gold Coast punk upstarts Charlie Rebel release their new album The People's Republic Of Earth on May 1, with guitarist/vocalist Nick Torr and bass player/producer Guy Cooper sitting down with HEAVY to give us the rundown on the album and more."It's great to finally get the full album out"! Cooper enthused. "It's been a couple of E.P's and a lot of singles so it's been a bit of a journey. It's great to push for that full album and really pull together the essence of the live set. I first saw the guys live up in Cairns a long time ago and this album is a culmination of trying to capture that live energy and rawness and fun sound that the guys are delivering on stage. Finding a way to deliver that on a recording is a tricky situation but they've really pulled out all stops. The guitars are slamming and heavy and raging and Chris (Torr) is a monster on the drum kit and really captures that sound well. The whole album is a really good version of what they are live".With a name like The People's Republic Of Earth it is clearly evident that Charlie Rebel are focussing on things that could be controversial and divisive in terms of lyrical content, but Nick scoffs at the thought of having to censure anything that comes out of his mouth or pen."Nah mate, I don't think there is a line", he deflected. "That might be a fault of mine, I don't know. There's always people that do get offended but it's the old saying, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. The way I see this planet is it needs more fucken opinions. It needs more truth. If I offend you then come back and say something to me that is otherwise and offend me"."That's what is great about punk music too", Cooper interjected. "You get to stand up and say something about how fucked up the government is and how all the terrible shit they are doing is going down and you've got a voice as a musician and as a punk band to do that. People might expect it or not expect it but they're getting it whether they like it or not".In the full interview Charlie Rebel go into greater detail about the album, run through new single 'You Know' and the story behind it, introduce us to Charlie Trout the bands unofficial mascot, discuss the album launch on May 4, reveal their Japan tour and things they have seen and learnt from previous tours that would translate well to Australian venues.

Adrian Goldberg presents cutting edge investigative journalism, as well as taking on listeners' campaigns and consumer issues. Unwitting second-hand car buyers are being chased for hundreds of pounds in debts on loans taken out by previous owners of their car. Drivers raising finance with so-called 'logbook loans' secured on their vehicles are selling on their cars before settling their accounts. Because logbook loans are secured using a Victorian law called the Bill of Sales Act, they offer much less protection to consumers than other forms of credit. Under the Act, a borrower taking out a logbook loan actually hands ownership of the vehicle over to the lender. Not only does that mean that the borrower has no legal right to sell on the vehicle but any innocent third party buying it also has no rights of ownership. 5 live Investigates speaks to one victim who paid £1,100 for a second-hand car. A year after buying the car, the owner received a letter from a loan company to say she wasn't the legal owner of the vehicle and was told would have to pay £600 to keep it - because the previous owner of the car had taken out a loan secured on the vehicle but had sold it on before settling all of his debts. It's estimated that around 40,000 bills of sale were registered in 2008-09 in England and Wales and experts warn these loans could become more popular as credit remains squeezed by mainstream lenders. The Trading Standards Institute says loans secured on bills of sale should be outlawed. The previous Labour government consulted on whether to ban the practice but the coalition government has decided not to legislate. Also on the programme, why are so many non-league clubs going to the wall? Is it that small businessmen have over-ambitious ideas, destroying the clubs they buy and letting down local creditors? John Beech of Coventry University has completed an extensive survey of non-league finances - he's discovered that there have been even more bankruptcies in non-league than league clubs. 5 live Investigates also speaks to Guy Cooper of Halesowen Town's supporters club, who tells how the club went broke, David Newton, the FA's head of integrity, and Kevin Rye of Supporters Direct.
