Alan Dershowitz gives his two cents discussing the political landscape marked by scandal and shifting social norms. The conversation begins with the news that a former candidate, Spencer Pratt, is threatening to release incriminating recordings that could force a political rival to resign in shame. Shifting focus to Graham Platner, Dershowitz expresses deep concern over the emergence of "thug" politicians who gain popularity despite histories of aggression and extremist imagery. Greg Belfrage talks to listeners about the recent endorsements of the Sioux Falls Mayoral Candidates. Former republican candidates, Joe Batchelor and Greg Jamison, endorsed democratic candidate Jamie Smith. In turn, Toby Doeden endorsed the republican candidate, Christine Erickson. Most of the listeners were disappointed in Greg Jamison. They probably will never vote for him in any future elections. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In Part two of the endorsements Greg goes deeper into political parties. What those parties mean and why Greg Jamison going against his party to endorse a democrat is so impactful. The response from most is that what political party you are in does matter. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Learn More About Lee Goldin here: https://www.goldinformayor.com/Lee Goldin didn't decide to run for mayor of Long Beach in a strategy meeting or at a donor luncheon. He decided while looking out his front window at a city‑owned lot in North Long Beach that everyone knew for the same reason: human suffering the city seemed willing to tolerate. For years, the lot functioned as a de facto encampment where people slept in cars, cooked meals, and tried to survive, even as others with worse intentions drifted in once it was clear no one in power really cared what happened there. When Goldin's young children asked about the people living on the street, he and his wife made a deliberate choice in how they answered: “These are our neighbors.” That language became the foundation of his politics.Goldin made it a point to get to know people in the lot. He helped a former port worker who had lost his job and home get into housing, and watched the site pick up a new name: “Lee's Lot.”For Goldin, those relationships cemented his belief that the city can't “use the police to solve social problems” and that “the first human right is to be treated with dignity.”The breaking point came when he witnessed a young pregnant woman, born homeless and trapped in an abusive relationship, being beaten in that lot. He called police, and no one came.Months later, when she was eight months pregnant and defended herself, officers did respond—after her abuser called—and he watched them shove her into the back of a patrol car as agencies still failed to track where her child ended up. Goldin says he realized this wasn't an oversight but a de facto policy: let people suffer and let the fallout “terrorize the neighborhood.”Shut out of city boards focused on homelessness and technology, Goldin adopted what he calls his “backup plan”: run for mayor on a simple message—“End homelessness”—even after learning it would cost nearly $8,000 just to print a ballot statement. Operating on a few hundred dollars from family and friends, he's leaned instead on deep dives into the city budget and long, candid conversations with residents about homelessness, policing, ICE, Palestine, and the role of local military contractors.Goldin is unusually blunt about race and power for a white candidate. He describes his campaign as “a master class in white male privilege,” arguing that America functions as different countries depending on who you are, and that many non‑white politicians are punished as “angry” when they speak as plainly as he does.“I'm part of the problem here, essentially,” he says, “but I'm at least trying to take a step towards recognizing the problem and kind of unlocking some pathways to solving it.” In a race he believes is drifting toward “tough on crime” politics and greater surveillance, he's asking Long Beach voters to judge him on whether they share his core conviction: that the city's first obligation is to protect its neighbors' dignity, not its own comfort.

LA Mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt means business. He's pissed and wants to turn the city he grew up in to a city that functions without debilitating crime, drugs, homelessness, in addition to helping thousands of Angelenos cut through red tape so they can rebuild after losing their homes in the LA fires of 2025. It's a tall order, and he says he's fired up and wants the job. And he's working the streets every day to earn the trust of voters to be their next mayor. Spencer, a USC grad, is passionate, well-spoken, and killed it in the recent LA Mayoral debates against incumbent Mayor Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman. He claims their progressive policies have turned Los Angeles into a walking criminal and drug addicted city that was once the envy of the country, a place where kids could play outside, walk to the local ice cream store and feel safe. No more, and I can attest to that. Today, he joins us to tell us his plan and vision to turn LA around. For anyone who claims a former reality TV star can't do the job, I welcome you to listen to our interview. Spencer is a father, husband, son, and he loves his city. He's a college grad who is outspoken and has sensible and practice ideas on how to get this city back on track. And for anyone who wants the same old politics, I hope you'll listen to our interview and hear what Spencer has to say. He just might be what LA needs, because we certainly don't need more of the same. Please join my full interview with Spencer on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.

This week on Truth to Power, we get you ready for the Primary Election here in Louisville taking place on Tuesday, May 19th (with early voting already underway!). Back on the evening of April 14th at Central High School, a Candidate Forum was held for Louisville's first-ever non-partisan Mayoral race. Eight candidates vying to become Louisville's next mayor participated to discuss their priorities and values. For the first time this year, the races for Louisville mayor and Metro Council are nonpartisan. Louisville Public Media, the Louisville Urban League and WDRB collaborated on this public forum to hear from candidates for mayor. Unlike in past years, every mayoral candidate will appear on all Jefferson County ballots in a nonpartisan section. The two who receive the most votes will move on to the general election in November. Kenya Young, the President and CEO of Louisville Public Media, co-moderated this Mayoral Candidate Forum with Gilbert Corsey of WDRB. All active candidates were invited to participate and eight did. Since then, one participant, Jeff Yocum, bowed out of the race. Two other candidates – Bill Wells and JusAustin Lane – previously withdrew. The candidates introduced themselves to the live audience at Central High School and responded to questions on a number of topics including affordable housing, data centers, police, public safety and business and development. Candidates from across the political spectrum attended the forum, and many were united in their criticism of incumbent Democratic Mayor Craig Greenberg, who did not attend. The full list of candidates who appeared at the forum includes: Lisa Holliday Harris Tina Burnell Matthew Solomon Bailey Jeff Yocum (withdrawn) Bob DeVore Stephen Dattilo Jody Hurt Shameka Parrish-Wright Early, no-excuse voting is taking place May 14-16 and primary election day is May 19. On this episode of Housing Unpacked, Tom Bill is joined by Peter Murray OBE, co‑founder of New London Architecture, founder of the London Festival of Architecture and a former design adviser to two London Mayors. As he prepares his own run for London Mayor in 2028 as an independent, Murray explains the tipping point behind his decision to enter politics, driven by what he sees as a lack of understanding in City Hall about the mayor's responsibility to deliver homes, infrastructure and better streets. He sets out his “get stuff done” philosophy, arguing that housing delivery in London has been choked by uncertainty, slow planning and strained relations with the development sector. Drawing on decades of experience across architecture, journalism and real estate, Murray outlines proposals to accelerate housing delivery, revive SME builders, restore certainty for investors, and bring design back to the top table through a City Architect. The conversation also covers density, tall buildings, affordability, transport reform, road pricing and what a more pragmatic, delivery‑focused mayor could mean for London's future.Subscribe to Tom Bill's UK Residential Outlook, for all the latest properties, exclusive market analysis, news and data. Follow Terri Rivers or donate at: https://terririvers.com/Long Beach mayoral candidate Terri Rivers is positioning her campaign around a simple but expansive idea: invest in children to solve the city's most persistent problems. In a one-on-one interview on The Jackie Rae Show, Rivers, a longtime child care provider and union member, said her approach to public policy is rooted in early childhood development and prevention.“If we really do give them the options that they need, it will reduce crime, it will reduce homelessness,” Rivers said. “Those kids become us. So why not spend all that energy toward the children?”Rivers, who was born in Chicago and raised in Long Beach, has spent more than two decades working in child care. She also founded a nonprofit focused on training child care providers and created a digital platform to help families find care more easily. Her entry into politics, was driven by frustration with what she describes as a lack of meaningful progress on key issues such as homelessness, public safety and housing.“I can't even stay in my lane because my house is getting broken into, we're having deaths on the street, and there's more homelessness on the block,” Rivers said. “I decided to run so I could make those changes.”Learn more about Rivers, and her policies on this episode of The Jackie Rae Show.
Greg Brady welcomed Brad Bradford, councillor for Beaches - East York and 2026 Mayoral Candidate to the studio to discuss his campaign which is anchored in fixing three things: the Three C's. Crime, because Torontonians should feel safe in their own city. Walking home, on the bus, on the subway platform, in the parks where their children and pets play. Congestion, because time is the one thing we cannot get back, and the time tax City Hall levies on Torontonians climbs higher every year. Cost, because families and small businesses are being asked to pay more for a city that delivers less. The math has stopped working, and Torontonians know it. Learn more about your ad choices. Last year, the City of Minot held a special mayoral election that made statewide headlines. In part, because the previous mayor had resigned in disgrace after sending a pornographic text message to the city attorney. In part, also, because of the cast of four candidates running to replace him, two of which had significant criminal records. Josiah Roise was one of those two -- he was charged with resisting arrest in Florida, and at one point was deemed a fugitive -- and he's running again this year against Mayor Mark Jantzer, who won last year's special election. Roise, who brands himself a "constituitonal mayor," got just 324 when he ran last time, though he attributes that at least in part to what he characterizes as vote fraud. "People that voted for me, people that I've never met before, all reported the same thing, which is that they put their ballot into the machine and it basically just eats it like an ATM will do that sometimes," he said on this episode of Plain Talk in an interview requested by his campaign. Roise says he made complaints to local and statewide election officials, though when pressed, he admitted that he hasn't brought the matter to court. He also claims to received input from the participant in a widely debunked film '2000 Mules' by political provacateur Dinesh D'Souza alleging fraud in the naitonal 2020 election, though even D'Souza himself has now backed away from its central claims. Roise, who filed a federal lawsuit against the Minot Police Department and Ward County Sheriff's Department over a search warrant executed on his property for bomb-making materials (an associate of Roise's later pleaded guilty to two felonies related to detonating a pipe bomb), also claims that local law enforcement attempted to plant drugs on his person. "I could smell the marijuana on the officers. And it's like, wow, my instincts were right not to comply, not to let them search my truck. They kept on saying, 'If you just let it s let us search it, we'll be out of here real quick.' They were going to plant it on me. So, it's like, I have zero trust in them," he said. Why does he call himself a constitutional candidate? "The biggest things are spending and government accountability," he said during our interview. "When you try and hold the government accountable, when you, you know, sue them or do whatever it is, it doesn't even really work because the system is kind of bent against the average American," he continued. "And we're just supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people. It's not supposed to be this thing where the government rules over you. We're supposed to be on a level playing field." Roise says he'd like to cut $6 million from the City of Minot's budget, and proposed merging the Minot Police Department with the local sheriff's department under the theory that police department's aren't constitutional. He argued that the modern police department is a "bureaucracy" and a "British thing" that America's founding fathers deliberately chose not to include in the Constitution. "I thought we need to only have sheriffs and deputies because sheriffs are elected. Please chiefs are not," he said. "So, if you got a bad, abusive or corrupt police chief, how do you get rid of him? You have to convince the majority of the city council and the mayor that he's got to go, and that's their guy." Roise's theory about constitutional sheriffs was a key tenet in the Posse Comitatus movement of the 1970s founded by William Potter Gale. Perhaps the most infamous adherent of Gale's movement was Gordon Kahl, the leader of a Posse Comitatus chapter in Medina that got into a deadly standoff with U.S. Marshals in 1983. "In fact, the sheriff is the highest official in his county," Roise told us during the interview. "On his turf, he's about equal to governor. Like, the sheriff is above the mayor. He's above everybody else. The sheriff is the most powerful. And that's how it is in all 50 states." Also on this episode, guest co-host Rep. Zac Ista and I discuss a recent report commissioned by the legislature about term limits. The report found strong support for term limits, but also some confusion about who they apply to among voters. If you want to participate in Plain Talk, just give us a call or text at 701-587-3141. Roise's theory about constitutional sheriffs was a key tenet in the Posse Comitatus movement of the 1970s founded by William Potter Gale. She is a sitting City Councilmember who has focused on homelessness. housing and government reform -- and now she's running for mayor of Los Angeles. Nithya Raman joins me for a conversation about her campaign and the direction of the City on this episode of What's Next. Los Angeles, Raman was first elected in 2020 to represent Council District 4. She defeated an incumbent in a race that drew national attention. Before joining the council, she was a housing advocate and co-founder of the SELAH neighborhood homelessness coalition and she worked in urban planning and on policy focused on homelessness and housing systems. On the City Council, Raman has been closely associated with efforts to expand renters' rights and housing reform, overseeing the city's approach to homelessness and promoting increased transparency and oversight of city government. Her tenure has also included debates over development, public safety, and the pace and effectiveness of city services.
