Seat Time started because we realized we enjoyed drinking beer and discussing the weeks happenings in the Off-Road Community. There didn't really seem to be anything like the show we had in our head. So, we started a show that encompassed all that we are. We'll make you laugh, we'll make ourselves l…

Not only did I get to race against Barry Hawk at the US Sprint Enduro, but I got to interview him after the fact as to why he's so much better than me as a racer. Some may not want to revel in their defeat, but me, I want to learn from it! Barry Hawk breaks down what he learned when riders Juha Salminen and David Knight came over to race the GNCC Series. He learned quickly that they were getting the speed on course due to their “european lines”. At that time, he was riding lines like I did, more “american lines”. It was an awesome breakdown of what he saw 20 years ago, and what we hear discussed from Texas ISDE racers like Brian Storrie and the O'Leary Brothers. Two other topics discussed were riding with patience and off-camber turns. Barry told us that even he has to remind himself to not push it when too much in certain situations. He wants to ride smoothly, with less opportunities for mistakes. The off-camber turns discussion as one that helped me understand what's happening between the rider and bike a lot more. I don't immediately want more of them, but I don't think I'm as leary of them now.If you enjoyed this episode, please share with your riding buddies. Grabbing a shirt or Utility Can Caddy from the Shop is also a huge help. Enjoy #GettingSeattime & Stay #Stoked!
If you've kept up with the Seat Time videos, you know the Astra Offroad Handlebars I had on the Sherco were one of the parts that truly changed the way I rode the two stroke. When I got on the GasGas, I knew I also wanted to ride with the low-rise Astra handlebars. I learned the hard way that the weight and rotating mass of a four stroke changes the handling characteristics of the motorcycle, creating the need for a higher rise handlebars than I previously thought. In this video, I discuss the testing I did to find the right handlebar position for the Astra Gemini 38mm rise handlebars I'm now running on the EX 350F. I also added a few podcast snippets from Jörli at Astra on more specifics of four stroke handlebar positioning and handlebar sweep. I learned a lot during this process, and I hope you do too.The handlebar video is on the Seat Time Youtube channel and the article will be on the Seat Time Substack SOON. Enjoy #GettingSeattime & Stay #Stoked!
The White Rock Enduro was exactly what I was looking for in a technical enduro. The roads were dusty, but the rocks and roots in the trail were still slick as all get out.I was on row 28 again, this time following Dylan Souther from Colorado. We went back and forth all day. When it got tight, I would catch and pass him. The other times, he would either out ride me, or I would crash myself into oblivion.Run Time on the Sherco at the 2024 White Rock Enduro was 4:28 & the miles were at 67.6. I was 12th Overall and 4th in the 40A Class. Fast old dudes, I LOVE IT!P.S. I don't know that I want to race this event when it's wet and/or raining. I probably should though, so I can find a way to overcome the fear of having to attempt a few hillclimbs more than once.Tip: Gummy trail tire next time for sure!Check out the video on the Seat Time Youtube channel for more good times!Support the show
An Enduro is an endurance event, and we need to fuel our body for the full day ahead. This podcast, article, video, and cheat sheet are all tools, not rules. Use them to help further your hydration and nutrition strategy heading into a race weekend. I'm planning on hosting a dirt bike nutrition session in the coming weeks. Skyler Howes recently announced that he has joined the Monster Energy Honda Rally Team (Rally Team HRC). His rally contract with Husqvarna Motorcycles ended early, with both sides deciding to go separate directions. This new opportunity with Honda allows Howes to keep growing in rally, while also looking for four wheel racing and adventures. The rally season didn't start off as planned for Howes though. He had a massive get off at the Rally of Morocco during the prologue. The airbag recorded that his head hit the dirt at 25g's, which is a CRAZY amount of g-forces. The extent of his injuries weren't as bad as they could have been. Howes is already back to light training, expecting to start rally training again soon. The idea of doing what Howes did, racing Rally as a privateer, is a dream for many. We discuss the costs it would take to make that dream a reality. The Malle Moto class sounds fun, but you'd need to be ready to beat yourself up while spending a huge chunk of change. I'll say it now though, I'm in!Nutrition and hydration are also an important part of being at the top of your game for rally racing. The amount of calories they consume, and the fact that they use condom catheters, was a lot to take in. I eat a ton of calories now, but for a race like the Dakar Rally, I'd have to really step my game! New video idea, test out different condom catheters (maybe not).Huge congrats to Skyler Howes on his signing with Team HRC Rally. He's riding a works factory rally bike, and looking to win the Dakar Rally. We wish him the best. We also hope there's a chance to ride his rally bike in the future. We can all dream, right?!?!Support the show
Ricky Russell and I first got to hang out WAYYY back in 2013 at the Big Sky XC National Championship. Crazy reminder that I've been doing this for A LONG TIME!Ricky grew up in the Pacific North West, and I REALLY want to ride my dirt bike there one day. It sounds like he's down for a guided tour. Let's see if we can talk him into it. As a professional racer, he's not extremely picky, but he does have some small adjustments that make his bike his setup. He also recommends not flipping your YZ450F upside. Solid advice if you ask me. Nutrition on race day, and leading up to it, is being talked about more and more by dirt bike racers and I'm here for it. This was a great rabbit hole for Ricky and I go down. Being properly fueled isn't as simple as grabbing the closest supplement and hoping for the best. Every riders body is different, and you have to figure out what works best for you. Hopefully you took away some nutrition nuggets, and that you want to ask more questions. There's no denying that Trystan Hart is now one of the top Hard Enduro racers around the world. He's been riding for the FMF KTM Factory Offroad Racing Team since 2020, all while steadily gathering podiums, building confidence, and winning high profile events. It was fun to hear him describe himself as steady, and someone like Billy Bolt as Flashy. I very much agree! This podcast episode dug a bit deeper in the back story of Trystan and his early motocross journey. It was cool to hear that Loretta Lynn's Amateur National Motocross was once on his family's radar. An unfortunate femur injury kept that from happening, but it did give us some humorous discussions about full-body casts. Something that's also cool to see is that he recently launched a book, Hard Enduro Hero, that's now available on Amazon. I hope this book gives younger audiences a way to see they can accomplish whatever dream they have with some hard work, dedication, and staying focused on being authentic to themselves. Thank you Trystan Hart for your time! It's been a pleasure to watch you grow through the ranks of Endurocross and Hard Enduro. John Short is a Supercross and Motocross racer from Texas. He's known for many things, but one is certainly his mustache as of late. Recently he became a first-time father and had wrist surgery. So his life is very different than it was just a few months ago.As we dove into the big topics of this episode, the Rider Triangle was our focus. I've heard about the perfect rider triangle for too long these days across social media. I knew it was time to dig in and start a deeper discussion. We also discuss what training, hydration, and nutrition looks like for a professional racer. I was deeply excited about this part of the conversation. We then wrapped up with my traditional Bike/Body/Mind questions.John Short is a super cool dude, and very down to earth. I really enjoyed our conversation. I hope his wrist heals well and he's back on the Supercross track for 2024. I also hope he and I get a chance to create some content together. I know I could learn a lot from him. Episode 23.7 is all about finding a balanced bike. It starts with spring rate, setting your sag, then fork tube height, and we tweak from there. The goal in all of this is to find a baseline setting that keeps the rider comfortable, stable, and propelling the bike forward. Alan "Doc" Cotton is a Race Tech Suspension tuner out of his shop, 812 Suspension, in Round Rock, Texas. This is the second time he's been on the Seat Time Podcast, as he was a guest back in 2021 on Episode 21.3. For this episode, we discuss all the things that go into a balanced dirt bike setup. Jordan Ashburn, your 2022 GNCC National Bike Champion, is our guest for the June episode of the Seat Time Podcast. We set the timing up for this interview right before the John Penton GNCC. As luck would have it, Ashburn was the winner of the Penton, and the seventh winner over seven races so far during the 2023 GNCC Season; Pretty Wild! We had to dive into what the 2023 Penton race and win was like, but there were so many other topics to chat about with Jordan. Since Jordan Ashburn has competed in so many Hard Enduros, we had to have the Two Stroke vs Four Stroke discussion. That led us into the electric dirt bike discussion, and where we think the sport could be headed as more electric motorcycles hit the market. As I have been doing a lot lately, I asked him about his mindset when it comes to racing. That was a fun rabbit hole. Once the bike setup topic came up, we learned Ashburn enjoys a fairly stock bike, keeping aftermarket parts to a minimum. There were also many more tidbits for everyone to take away. Thanks for listening and supporting Seat Time. Please share this with your riding buddies. The race program Josh Toth has for 2023 is what most racers dream of! It's even cooler to hear that he chose this route, knowing he wanted to have certain life experiences while he could; He doesn't want to live a life of regrets. Toth and I just finished racing the Black Buffalo National Enduro, so we had some VERY relevant thoughts on how awesome that race was. We also dive into his 2023 race program, and how he was able to put together such a cool program and schedule with Enduro Engineering, GasGas, and other sponsors. It isn't easy to jump back and forth between Hard Enduro and more traditional dirt bike racing, so it was cool to hear Toth's perspective on the different disciplines. He even breaks down the differences for him between two strokes and four strokes, which I really enjoyed. Thanks for listening, check out our latest video w/ Cole Kirkpatrick, and we'll see ya next month! Ryan Sipes is a long time motorcycle racer. If you look at his official results in The RacerX Vault, 2004 is his first documented race. We're almost 20 years past that and he's still throwing a leg over a bike as a professional racer. His current situation does have him off the bike, which we talk a lot about. He injured himself back in January of 2021 while riding in Florida and he's had a lot of setbacks that he has had to overcome. The mental strength he's showcased while working through his recovery is a subject I wanted to dive into. We have other fun conversations about offroad techniques that helped him in motocross, leveraging the front brake, and how Hard Enduro is his quality pleasure. It sounds like Sipes is on the road to recovery and he'll be riding again soo. We can't wait to see him back on the bike, showcasing his depth of skill from flat track to deep woods racing. After putting out our videos from the 2022 Shady Burro Enduro, Morgan and I realized we had many more bench racing stories to tell. So for the September podcast episode of Seat Time, Morgan and I chat through the untold stories of the Shady Burro Enduro. My biggest question was how the conditions felt to a Colorado rider. It was interesting to hear Morgan's response, that they're used to dry, dusty conditions. So what we experienced this year at The Burro is an uncommon element to deal with. As a flatlander coming to Colorado, the wet, slick conditions had me rethinking my decision to drive 14+ hours for a dirt bike race. Cole Kirkpatrick joins Woody for Episode 22.2 of the Seat Time Podcast. This has been a long time coming, as we've known Cole since his A Class TSCEC days! 11 years after Cole's last year following the entire National Enduro Series as a professional racer, he's still winning local TSCEC enduros. That type of longevity, speed, and fun, seems hard to keep up with. We learn a few tips of the trade that the rest of us can try to apply for extra throttle twisting."I was ready for something different, and I knew I lost that edge".One topic that really interested us was what it felt like to be done as a professional racer. Cole spent five years, 2007-2011, chasing the National Enduro Series, even riding on the Factory GasGas Team (before KTM purchased them), and then one day he knew he was done. That level of effort can take its toll on the body and the mind, it was really cool to get Cole's take on that part of his life. He also lived with Russell Bobbitt and Kurt Caselli, if only there had been more time for more stories. 2022 marks the fifth year that Cole and Russell will be running Gnarly Routes, “a riding experience that offers guests a riding vacation they will never forget”. They find some locations and trails that most of us scout youtube for so we can salivate over the terrain. Reach out to them if you're looking to follow along on their riding adventures from s first person point of view. At Round 3 of the Endurocross Series, we saw Trystan Hart go 1-1-1 for his first overall of the 2021 season. He was in control of each race throughout the evening. Even when he started from the second row in the second Super Endurocross moto, he still quickly made his way to the front to control the race. He was excited, far from "pissed" and sounds ready for Prescott. The Endurocross tracks have continued to evolve as the 2021 Series has progressed. They have had more dirt to utilize, which has brought more elevation to the track, along with more technical features. This has slowed the racers down, keeping them from jumping and from finding a decent flow. It has also elevated the quality of racing we're enjoying. Hopefully when Endurocross finds itself in a concrete floor arena again, they can purchase more dirt to continue the elevation trend.LinksYoutube: https://bit.ly/3DBmyiKShop: http://bit.ly/SeatTimeShopInstagram: https://bit.ly/seattimeInstagramBuy a Coffee: https://bit.ly/2WCKuBoSubmit your Why I Ride story to the project at seattime.co.Enjoy #GettingSeattime during October, ride your bikes and tag @seattime in your adventures.

The American racers had a great showing, but they just couldn't keep up with the speed and intensity of Bolt and Lettenbichler.Seat Time YT Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCETz0h95OSVM61nN4AY3n1w/Enhance your pre/post ride shenanigans with some Seat Time branded merchandise at shop.seattime.coSubmit your Why I Ride story to the project at seattime.co.Enjoy #GettingSeattime during August, ride your bikes and tag @seattime in your adventures.

We’re beyond stoked to introduce our newest “Why I Ride” merchandise design, which is inspired by Porsha Murdock’s story about the reason she loves to ride — “When I was in school, I thought I was going to become a physical therapist, not be racing bikes in Italy. It’s wild to think about.”For Porsha Murdock, the sport of mountain biking came later in life. “I learned to ride in 2012,” she recalls. “Having grown up in California, you would think I would’ve done something like mountain biking, but I didn’t.” Instead, she played soccer as a kid and tennis as a teen. After high school, she met her future husband, Dylan Murdock, who was in California for school and offroad dirt bike racing. It wasn’t until after she met Dylan that Porsha discovered mountain biking. Just recently the NEPG (National Enduro Promotions Group) announced that after 15 years, they would no longer be promoting the AMA National Enduro Series. Good for them, retirement should be fun! But what does that mean for the Series, the racers and the future of the AMA National Enduro Series? That's what Erek Kudla, the AMA Offroad Racing Manager, and I talk about during this Seat Time Quickie. Thanks for tuning in. Alan "Doc" Cotton is the owner and tuner at 812 Suspension Design out of Round Rock, Texas. I noticed 812 stickers on bikes being posted around the world. This clued me in that there was something going on with 812 that I needed to know more about. Doc's story is deeper, and more meaningful, that I could have ever imagined. Dirt bikes saved his life, literally. Crystal Levesque is a Canadian dirt bike rider. She's known on Instagram as @Crystal_loves_moto and has amassed a large following of fans who enjoy her openness, her teachings and her Canadian slang. We cover quite a few topics as we chat for just under an hour. Her journey on Instagram is a subject we cover, but we dive deeper into how she learned to ride and why she now helps other learn as she did. We touch a bit on her reason for why she rides that lead us into the differences between men and women and how they respond differently to coaching and motivation. We finish things off with a quick Q&A, where we learn about an American lady who rides with whiskey in her camelback. She's probably not the first. Thanks for tuning in.
