In this episode of Decouple, Chris Keefer is joined once again by Michael Seely of the Atomic Blender to explore nuclear fuel reprocessing and the promise of unlocking vastly more energy from existing nuclear waste. We deep dive how processes like PUREX attempt to separate and reuse valuable materials like uranium and plutonium. Using real-world examples such as France's La Hague reprocessing plant and the EBR-2 sodium fast reactor experiment, the episode situates reprocessing within its historical roots in perceptions of uranium scarcity and energy security. While reprocessing is technically impressive, it is complex, expensive, and delivers only modest gains when used with today's reactor fleet. Keefer and Seely unpack why issues like fuel degradation, handling challenges, and economics limit its impact, and what would need to change, such as the deployment of economic fast reactors, for reprocessing to live up to is most seductive narratives. From the revolutionary use of drones to staged coups, child abduction and psychological warfare, the war in Ukraine is like no other. It is a new form of total war, combining traditional military force with all the non-military tools of the Russian state. The 2022 invasion was just the next stage of a conflict that Russia has been fighting since 2005, using all the tactics at its disposal to control Ukraine's politics and wreak havoc. Combining over a decade of research, astute analysis and powerful stories from the front line, and including striking photographs of the people and scenes he encountered along the way, Bob Seely has written the authoritative guide to this new form of conflict. Travelling extensively throughout Ukraine, Seely meets figures such as Panoushka, the sniper who continues to fight despite the loss of her fiancé, and Ksenia, the seventeen-year-old who journeyed through Russia searching for her abducted younger brother. Above all, Seely argues that understanding Moscow's new total war is critical because Russia considers itself at war with the West as well as Ukraine, directing some of the tactics used there against us. Dolly Parton BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Dolly Parton has been everywhere this week with headlines that touch nearly every facet of her career and personal life. Parade and AOL report that Dolly just publicly mourned the loss of her longtime friend and fellow country legend Jeannie Seely, who died at 85 after battling health complications. Dolly took to Instagram with a heartfelt tribute recalling decades of laughs and tears together and called Seely “one of my dearest friends,” showing her enduring humanity and influence in the country music community. In Nashville, Dolly stole the show at the grand opening of the Country Music Hall of Fame's “Journey of a Seeker” exhibit, where she arrived in a bright, ultra-glamorous all-pink ensemble, rhinestones and butterflies included, to unveil her story for the public. This museum exhibit will run through September 2026, celebrating her life, sound, and the inspiration she continues to provide through generations. During the opening, Alison Krauss & Union Station performed Dolly's classic hits on stage, further cementing her formative influence on American culture, as reported by Parade. But she is not just a museum piece—her original Broadway-bound musical, “DOLLY: A True Original Musical,” wrapped its world premiere run at Belmont University's Fisher Center at the end of August. The show extended its performance schedule by 16 dates, bringing in nearly 78,000 attendees. Dolly personally thanked the cast and crew and signaled that the musical's next iteration may be Broadway itself, according to Fox Nashville. On the music front, she made fresh waves by teaming up with the Zac Brown Band for the new single “Butterfly.” MusicRow raved about the duet, calling it “thrilling” and “essential listening,” and country radio stations are already treating the collaboration as a big deal.Parton continues her philanthropic efforts, with features in outlets like Borgen Magazine highlighting her Imagination Library and her ongoing fight against poverty and for children's literacy worldwide. Discussions of her impact are circulating once again, amplifying her legacy beyond entertainment.Social media has been abuzz not only with her public memorials and exhibit photos but also with condolences from millions of fans and colleagues, admiration for her recent interviews, and excitement about her continued advocacy and business ventures. There have been speculative whispers on fan pages and podcasts about her potential to step back from music to focus on charity and legacy projects—these are largely unconfirmed, but her public comments about prioritizing impact over fame have fueled them.In short, Dolly Parton is proving, at 79, that her relevance is nowhere near fading—her story, her generosity, and her ability to headline major news are as vibrant as her wardrobe this week.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

Josh Joplin isn't one to dwell on past glories, but there was a time when he was chasing songs worldwide. In 2001, his breakout single "Camera One" became the first independently released song to hit #1 at Triple A Top 40, landing Josh Joplin Group on Artemis Records—a label that boasted acts as varied as J. Mascis, Warren Zevon, The Pretenders, and, yes, the "Who Let the Dogs Out" hitmakers, The Baha Men. ("Camera One" may not have unleashed any canines, but it did land a spot on the cult classic tv show Scrubs.) Joplin followed with The Future That Was (2002), produced by Rob Gal (Magnapop, Rock-a-Teens), and later earned critical praise for Jaywalker, Among the Oak & Ash, and Devil Ship. Now, after years of collaborating with friends and fellow musicians, he returns with his latest album, GpYr ("gap year"). Spin Magazine says GpYr is "a collection of pop-infused gems that, with help of producer Lorenzo Wolff (Taylor Swift's Midnights and Folklore), captures the raw energy of Joplin's earlier works...but with the musical and lyrical layers of the older, wiser musician Joplin has become." More than just a record, GpYr is a sonic scrapbook—a story of four friends who, over one unforgettable summer and autumn, came together for a mission: to rescue Seely from a therapeutic boarding facility in remote New England. In saving her, they saved each other. While the Josh Joplin Group will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Useful Music—the album some say started it all–it's Joplin's “new album that reminds us all of how far we've come.” (Spin Magazine) Learn more about your ad choices. Varsity Spirit is starting a professional cheerleading league that promises to pay athletes, joining the crowded niche sports market that already includes softball, volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, lacrosse, indoor football and more, clamoring for both fans' attention and their dollars. Pro Cheer League is billed as the first professional cheerleading league for athletes 18 and older, designed to give cheerleaders the chance to keep competing after college. Bill Seely, president of Varsity Spirit, based in Memphis, Tennessee, sees plenty of opportunity for all these sports to succeed. This cheer league's advantage comes from the sport's growth since the 1970s, along with Varsity's own fan base through its cheerleading, dance team camps, events and shows. “That's going to help us really kind of build this out in a way that is sustainable and will continue to grow not just domestically but globally," Seely said. Varsity Spirit has had more than 80,000 people attend its events. The Pro Cheer League will try to tap into that fan base by competing the same night as other events starting in January in Indianapolis, when competition begins. Each match will feature three periods of competition, with two focusing on cheerleading skills, stunts, basket tosses and tumbling in bracket-style rounds. The final period will feature choreography and music. “We hope a media deal, which we're working on right now, will help kind of bridge beyond the existing fan base," Seely said. “And we're trying to build something that entertains families, friends and gives everyone just a great show that they want to come out to." Best for the cheerleaders will be money for their athleticism. Compensation will include pay, money for travel, lodging and uniforms along with bonuses and prizes. Seely noted stunt is on track for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship status for women by spring 2027 after being designated an emerging sport in 2023. The International Olympic Committee recognized cheerleading as a sport in 2021. “We just felt like it was the right next step for the activity and to really kind of magnify it to help inspire young people to participate in it,” Seely said. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

When the body of fourteen-year-old Chris Steiner was discovered floating in the Wisconsin River on July 10, 1994, it brought a heartbreaking end to the search for the boy who had mysteriously disappeared from his Baraboo, Wisconsin home a week earlier. Officially, the cause of death was drowning. His death was a tragic accident, and nothing more. But was it? A year later, a harrowing 911 call from 14 year old Thad Phillips would bring to light a monster in the boys' own neighborhood, one that would change the ruling in Chris Steiner's death and horrify the community forever.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1997. Dallin Seely from YouTube channel @TheDashleys grew up as a multigenerational Mormon. When he was seven years old, his father passed away from stomach cancer. Despite this tragedy, the church provided a lot of support to him and his family. The early death of his father leads Dallin to experience intense scrupulosity as he worries that he will never see his father again in heaven if he isn't "worthy" according to LDS Standards. A strict Bishop exacerbates Dallin's scrupulosity but is somewhat alleviated when a new bishop tells him that his worthiness was not determined by others. Dallin went on a mission for the church and had a mix of positive and negative experiences. When he came home from his mission, he was encouraged to get married, but he continued to have doubts about the church's teachings, such as the priesthood ban for black members. Dallin felt the Holy Ghost told him to marry a certain woman, but he falls in love with Ashley, another faithful woman but who seems a bit less "proper" to Dallin for things like expressing humor through sarcasm. Dallin follows his own heart and marries Ashley anway. The couple deals with the church's inherent sexism, including in the temple and the teaching of “the patriarchal order” in the Mormon church. Continuous marriage struggles lead them to seek therapy. This led to the healthiest time in their marriage, as they were able to have emotional intimacy and talk about their feelings, including Ashley's feelings about General Conferences and sexism. They did not want to teach their daughter to feel inferior to men. They also talk about embracing their true selves and raising their children in a way that eliminates guilt and fear. They describe their understanding of the brain and how therapists aim to change relationships to thoughts and feelings, and not be enslaved by them.
