Come hang out with us this week to talk about mummies, the Incan empire, and cultural insensitivity.
the racism JUMPED out. like it's usually present in these episodes but it was basically the 6th member of the scooby gang this time ;n; despite it all, sam and mike talk about the iconic Ampata in a vampire-less episode of Buffy Boyfriends! follow @BuffyBoyfriends send us fanmail: google form executive produced by sam stanish and mike lawliss produced by alex conti and joe mcmahon
It's foreign exchange student time at Sunnydale High, and Buffy is hosting a male student from South America. Xander isn't thrilled until it seems Buffy is actually hosting a girl, not a boy. Unbeknownst to the Scoobies, this girl, who takes on the name Ampata, is an ancient Incan mummy sacrificed by her people. She's brought back to life and must drain the life force of other people in order to remain alive. Xander quickly charms Ampata with his goofiness, and she agrees to go with him to the upcoming World Culture Dance. More bodies are discovered, and Buffy and Giles realize that Ampata is the mummy. Just as Willow is about to become Ampata's next victim, Xander offers himself in her place. Ampata hesitates just long enough to age quickly and turn to dust. The next day, Xander bemoans his awful luck in love, and Buffy points out that Ampata may have done bad things, but she also had horrible things done to her. Mel continues to embarrass with her pronunciation and Tilda is here for it. We find some redeeming moments in this episode.. Hello Oz!! But mainly find many flaws and holes.. Cheers to Giles getting knocked out for the 400th time and may next episode be filled with many a Bangel moment (spoiler.. it is)Disclaimer: The actor who plays Billy Black and the Bodyguard in this episode (Gil Birmingham).. is not disabled in real life. Mel made some jokes about a character from the book series Twilight.. but she was in no way making fun of the characters disability. Just felt the need to clarify after editing and hearing my (Melanie's) clumsy jokes. It's a big week for the Scooby gang. Time for a fun-filled field trip to a museum in preparation for their cultural exchange program with students from all around the world. Buffy actually begins to bond with her mysterious exchange student and Xander can't keep his eyes or lips *hint hint* off of her. Of course it's only a matter of time until the happiness unravels, because this week Buffy and crew are getting wrapped up in some mummy issues. And we're definitely not in Kansas anymore, because Oz has arrived, and he only has a heart for Willow. Could her days of eating raisins alone at the bar finally be coming to an end??? The only way Edwina could convince her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was to do a podcast about it. This week listen to Edwina and Jarrod discuss the very campy episode, Inca Mummy Girl.
Join us on a journey into deepest darkest Latin America/ South America/ Peru / It's all the same *pan pipes play* for Inca Mummy Girl. Yes, the girl from the "cramped and dead" place with apparently no kitchens; is she talking about South America? Or is she talking about her sarcophagus? It is impossible to tell between these two things because they are the same to me! We also find out that Osh thinks he met the Inca Mummy Girl in question, discuss the ins-and-outs of life-force sucking, and ask the v important question: what the fuck is happening at the Bronze? I see geishas, sheikhs, vikings, Crocodile Dundee... and is that Justin Trudeau?
Original Air Date: 2/9/16 Some relationships will suck the life out of you. This relationship is literal. Xander falls for the wrong girl. Again. SPECIAL GUEST, ANDREW J. FERCHLAND! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Stick around for "Scoobies' Secrets," the spoiler filled section at the end of the podcast.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2x4 REACTION Inca Mummy Girl Episode 4 Reaction
Kaethe and Madeline go into this worrisomely titled episode with the theme of sacrifice. They look at the similarities between Ampata's and Buffy's sacrifice of a normal life, the role gender plays in expectations and discourse around sacrifice, and the fact that it was super unnecessary for Xander to sacrifice himself to a girl he met two days ago. Also, what made Sven (who does NOT speak Spanish, Cordelia) decide to be an exchange student??
Not that Seal. @morepodcasting

In this episode of Fire Bad, Tree Pretty, Amanda and Lydia discuss S02E04 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Inca Mummy Girl." Points of interest: this insane museum, mummyfriends.net, a man made of swiss cheese, Willow's JNCO overalls, Knife Guy is bad at his job, never follow a whisper yell, Ampata's desiccated flesh prison, Devon + Harmony (#Hevon, we ship it), OZ ARRIVES and Lydia's pants catch on fire, severe mom jeans, inappropriate translation requests, archaeology club/crime club, Twinkie flirting fun times, kissucking in the girl's room, no dance for Buffy, Amanda is tuned into the dog frequency, Willow is too cute for this world, Giles' brain knocks itself unconscious, the whole cultural exchange hot mess, and a lot of very 90's lipstick. Disclaimer: We didn't think about it when we recorded, but we've since learned that "Eskimo" is offensive to some people, so we apologize if we shouldn't have been using it! We're doing our best but we are always happy to be corrected if we fuck up. Why You Probably Shouldn't Say Eskimo
So my excuse for the crappy audio this time will be that it’s punk to not care about sound quality, and with Spike’s glorious debut I’m trying to make the show more punk. Yeah, that’s it. *sigh* Anyway, as unprofessional as I may be Theresa Fortier, founder of supportspike.com and producer at VidiotsOnline.com still agreed to join me this week to discuss the most important episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Episode 203, “School Hard,” and how it dramatically shakes up the vampire status quo of the series with the introduction of some exciting new characters. Also on deck we’ve got 204, “Inca Mummy Girl,” which introduces two more brand new characters, one arguably the most abused in series history and the other inarguably the most laconic. And in 205, “Reptile Boy,” the series addresses the fratboy cultist cliche in the metaphorical room that we all knew we were going to have to get to sooner or later. And yes the episode runs long. It’s punk, dammit. Leave me alone. Inca Mummy Girl. What is there to say about this episode that isn't already covered in the title? There's a mummy. She's a girl. She's Incan. That's about all there is really.Well that and horribly awkward cultural appropriation.

The watchers gathered for Inca Mummy Girl. Best thing about this episode? Introduction of Oz and introduction of his interest in Willow (he's gonna break your heart, Willow!). In the twelfth episode of Slayerfest 98, hosts Ian Carlos Crawford and Mathew Rodriguez discuss the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2 episodes "Inca Mummy Girl” and “Reptile Boy." They are joined by special guests Charles Rockhill(https://twitter.com/charlesrockhill) and Christopher Downs(https://twitter.com/chrisopotamia)! They also discuss the cultural appropriation Katy Perry-like school dance from 'Inca Mummy Girl,' how great Cordelia is, the WB's 90s programming, and Willow's big moment defending Buffy to Giles and Angel.
The internet is trying to get me to see Buffy spoilers. Oz is a Xander clone. There will be an episode in a Theme Park. Jonathan’s first episode. ‘The guy in the band’ is the character to be in any high school drama, and "can I get a sound check" – means … did I pronounce that right?
Some relationships will suck the life out of you. This relationship is literal. Xander falls for the wrong girl. Again. SPECIAL GUEST, ANDREW J. FERCHLAND!

This week, the gang sat down with Jay from the band Phantasm! Check them out at - facebook.com/phantasmband Jay was kind enough to give us some much needed insight into Incan fashion, and social norms. Turns out, mummies are cool and spooky, but their thirst for boy-blood can be a bit of a bummer during high school dances. Let’s see what kind of a “gentleman” Xander will be to our beautiful new monster.
The Diogenes Club Podcast: for the love of Buffy and other awesome.
In today's episode, we discuss Buffy Season 2 Episode 4 Inca Mummy Girl: Wherein Xander Continues His streak. And as always, we are happy to hear from you in the comments or at info@diogenesclubpodcast.com. Thank you for listening!
Michaela and David muddle their way through mesoamerican history with episode four of Buffy's second season, "Inca Mummy Girl". Our hosts talk about their ongoing quest to find redemption in Xander's character, the fashion of the times, cultural sensitivity, Buffy's huge rings and Cordelia's amazing abs.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS! Now I see why this show has such a following. It only took 15 episodes to get here! The show's strengths have always been in the tertiary characters- that's where the real stakes are, where the danger lies. The main characters aren't going to get iced, but Wheadon's brilliance relies in his ability to cast well and do more with less when it comes to characters. So now we have our standouts of the show- Spike, Inca Princess, and that other fuckup girl in the principal's office. The master sucked, and I'm glad he's gone. This storyline does not lend itself to prophecy well. Buffy has a little meat to chew on in being reluctant to embrace her destiny, but it's missing a crucial part that makes prophecy a compelling narrative tool- how the world reacts to the chosen one, and what that means for their place in the world. Something that Harry Potter nailed, but the Matrix flubbed (yeah I said it). Spike is just the right amount of charm and chaos we need to make the vampire faction interesting again (I still miss Darla, though). A vampire hybrid of Littlefinger and Jack Sparrow. He wants to rule the vampires, but he doesn't have prophecies or succession on his side- so he pisses all over that and charts his own path to gaining power. Including, blessedly, putting that prepubescent little twat in a cage and frying him to dust. Inca Girl is Buffy in the darkest timeline (so much so that I wish her backstory was that she was an ancient slayer)- someone whose fate has cursed her to a short life with no agency. She's back now, and requires the life force of the living to stay alive. But she's sympathetic, her desire to live and love is a much more compelling motivation than seeking power. I truly hope the show keeps this up.
Gentle listeners, I give you all a mummified hand for getting through this with us. I know all of the blunt racism here is harder to swallow than ten twinkies. We appreciate you attending the ill-advised culture celebration and dancing forward to the goodness that awaits in later episodes of season 2. At least we do have two bright new shining lights on this dance floor in the forms of Oz AKA Seth Green and Jonathan AKA Danny Strong to keep us company. Suggested talking points: Problematic Favs, Spaghetti Westerns, a Joan of the Crawford variety, and Australia's Trial of the Century
today's episode brings commiseration over YET ANOTHER XANDER EPISODE!!! with the added bonus of some weird cultural appropriation. join us as we talk about sexy shark costumes, empanadas, and other nonsense. where is spike?!?
This week our hosts discuss the questionable collections policies at the Sunnydale History Museum, rant against 'fuckboi' Xander, and try to make sense of a whole lot of cultural appropriation. This week on Hellmouthy: Kelly and Ryan revisit School Hard and Inca Mummy Girl! Will our cohosts survive racist cultural appreciation dances, vampires on PCP, and gold lipstick? MORE IMPORTANTLY: will their friendship survive a disagreement about frogs? Kelly’s strange mood rears its ugly head, while Ryan does her best to keep the episode on track! This week, John and Ash discuss Season 2 episodes 4-6: "Inca Mummy Girl," "Reptile Boy," and "Halloween." The timing was very fortunate, so listen to us discuss the evolution of supporting characters in Buffy, Joss Whedon's ability to pull off high-concept television, and Ash roll off trivia this Halloween!

Kristen & Mike aren't the only ones getting lost in the stacks this week! Chris from Hey, Do You Remember...? sits in for a discussion about School Hard and Inca Mummy Girl. School Hard is more than just a handful of cheeky references to Die Hard - it's also our introduction to Spike! Kristen, Mike, and Chris lay out why this character works so well and why he stands in such stark contrast to the other adversaries the Scoobies have faced thus far. Other topics include: the real reason Spike's known as "William the Bloody", the 'ol "they were on PCP" excuse, and a better way to handle the final scene between Buffy, Spike, and Joyce. Next up is the show's riff on some classic mummy stories - Inca Mummy Girl. On a trip to the Sunnydale museum, ne'er-do-well Rodney accidentally awakens the Mummy. Once a beautiful princess, she can now only regain her youth if she regularly kills. Poor Xander has fallen for this enchanting murderess and must choose between her and his best friend. Kristen, Mike, and Chris discuss the similarities between Ampata's and Buffy's fates as "chosen" girls, break down the practicalities of the curse, lament the wasted potential of Ampata's bodyguard, debate the value of Twinkies, and much more!
It’s foreign exchange student season at Sunnydale High and Buffy is hosting a young girl by the name of Ampata. But the love triangle between Ampata, Xander and Willow isn’t the only trouble brewing because Ampata is actually an Incan mummy girl! Can the Scoobies keep the mummy curse under wraps or are they tombed (you know, like “doomed”)?Join us as we chat about burials, the burden of sacrifice and the justice system with our special guest Dael Kingsmill.Sunnydale Study Group is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast hosted by Holland Farkas, Chris Bramante and Omar Najam.Check out Dael Kingsmill's YouTube channel!Find more Sunnydale goodness at Facebook.com/SunnydaleStudyGroup and Twitter.com/SSGPodcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It's finally Oz time on Buffy! Andrea celebrates the arrival of her favourite character, while Amanda mourns the death of her ship, yes, Xillow is done. :( Amanda and Andrea have different, but complementary, ideas of what the 'theme' of this episode is. This leads them off on to some very different, but very interesting tangents.

This week, we spend some time with the Inca Mummy Girl (2.04), meet two new members of our recurring cast, and spin some lore about some high-waisted jeans.
The Heroes kick off the second season with this episode, and it's already coming up kittens and roses and other such fluffy things. "When She Was Bad," "Some Assembly Required," "School Hard," and "Inca Mummy Girl" are the name of the game. Preston postulates and creates a few interesting crossovers, the ongoing Earth-2.net International Throw-Down escalates yet again, and Hanners and Preston kind of fangirl- / boy-out. What is the cause of such joy? What is Will Ackerman's new segment "The Zeppoes" about, and what does Roseanne have to do with it? Listen to find out!

Delta Park at Stake Podcast | Buffy E8 - School Mummy | We watch Season 2 Episodes 3 and 4. School Hard which was quite awesome and Inca Mummy Girl which was not.
Inca Mummy Girl is the fourth episode from the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That much, I do know. Apparently, that's pretty much it. A few corrections I want to point out: In this commentary, I mistakenly refer to the actor playing Devon as the actual lead vocalist for the band, Four Star Mary. After researching the episode for show notes, something I probably should have done before the recording, I realize now that Jason Hall is an actor, playing the role of a musician. My apologies for the mix-up. Also, I talk about how Devon isn't in the show after season two. This is also false. Jason Hall appears quite a few times throughout season three, and at least once in season four. Again, I'm sorry for my ignorance.Anyway, Inca Mummy girl gives us an abundance of at least three good things: Seth Green, cinematic lighting, quality music by Four Star Mary, Willow in an Eskimo outfit and special guest star, Ara Celi. Oh, and a mummy. Can't forget about the mummy. Okay, so that's clearly more than three good things. I can't help it, there's a lot to enjoy about this episode. I mean, it's another solid Xander-themed episode. What's not to love? You're not supposed to answer that. It's rhetorical.
