On this, the 610th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast, we talk about the two games the Cubs played against the Angels this weekend. In these two games, we saw some great pitching (Cole Hamels), some bad pitching (the bullpen on Saturday), and some in-between pitching (Kyle Hendricks). We also talk about the catching situation now that Victor Caratini is out for a month or two. This allows us the opportunity to fret over the lack of quality pitch-framing. We also preview the upcoming Marlins series. Thanks for downloading the 605th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast. The Cubs open their 2019 campaign vs. the Rangers down in Texas. On this episode, we preview the series and look at the pitching match-ups. Since Theo Epstein's press conference after the end of the 2018 season, the Cubs have indicated that they would like to create a sense of urgency with the team. This week, we learned some of the things they will implement to keep the team focused and working as a unit. On Tuesday, the Cubs announced they have come to an extension agreement with Kyle Hendricks. We talk about the deal itself and look at the long-term starting pitching situation. The goal is always to get out of Spring Training without injury, and for the most part, the Cubs accomplished that. We share the updated information on the players who are entering the season banged up and on the Injured List. We also take a look at the 25-man roster the Cubs will employ to start the season. Thanks for downloading the 602nd episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast. This week, we talk about some individual Spring Training performances that have caught our attention. We talk about Albert Almora, Tyler Chatwood, Steve Cishek, Carl Edwards Jr, Kyle Schwarber, Willson Contreras, Ian Happ, and the starting pitchers. Certain players always catch people's attention in Spring Training. There are young players or players from the system that play well in Spring Training, and then people believe they should unseat All-Stars because they're hitting .364 in Spring Training. We talk about a few players who are getting attention and talk about their role with the Cubs in 2019. We discuss Nico Hoerner, Mark Zagunis, and Allen Webster. Andy runs through an injury update. Kurt gives us more information on the Cubs tv deal. And, the Cubs acquired one of their recent draft picks through a trade.
Thanks for downloading this, the 600th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast. Michael from Galesburg (and the Cultivating Catuli podcast) joins us to review the predictions we made on the 2018 Chicago Cubs.
Thanks for downloading this episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast. We have a number of Cubs topics to discuss on this episode. In tragic news, former Cub Luis Valbuena was killed in Venezuela. There is a new offensive metric, DRC+. We talk about the stat, and what it tells us about the 2018 Cubs. This week, we learned that Yu Darvish should be good to go for Spring Training. Unfortunately, it looks like Brandon Morrow will likely not be ready for Spring Training. Fangraphs released a list of Cubs top prospects, and we look at the overall list and who could impact the Cubs in the near future. The Cubs coaching staff is in place. Other teams are getting better, and we're a little confused about the tight purse-strings. If you'd like to read more about DRC+, check out these two articles: Why DRC+? What is DRC+?

Despite playing in just 123 games over the course of five seasons, Bill Schuster held a significant distinction for decades. Bill Schuster was the last Cubs player to score a run in a World Series game in which the Cubs won, until 2016. As a pinch-runner, Schuster scored the walk-off run in the 12th inning of Game #6 in the 1945 World Series. In this episode of Cultivating Catuli, we share some of Schuster's antics from his years in the Pacific Coast League. If you miss Andy's Rube Waddell stories on the Ivy Envy Podcast, you may get a kick of Mr. Bill Schuster.
Thanks for downloading the first episode of Cultivating Catuli. The idea for this podcast started as three friends that are Cubs fans rode on an Amtrak train, heading to a celebration in Grant Park, just hours after the Chicago Cubs became 2016 World Series Champions. A listener of The Ivy Envy Podcast suggested to Corey that the podcast does more to educate newer Cubs fans on the history of the Cubs. Michael from Galesburg, of The Awesome 80s Podcast, saw Cultivating Catuli as a solution. On this podcast, you will hear stories of players, games, occurrences, and more. In this first episode, we start with an iconic piece of Cubs history, the Wrigley Field Marquee.

Join the Sports Gal Pal Facebook Community! Corey Fineran from the Ivy Envy Podcast comes back to talk about the incredible win for the Cubs and also how to move past any curse (hint he doesn't believe in them) and how the organization as whole moves from loveable loser to World Series Champs. Corey Fineran is the founder of IvyEnvy.com and the lead host for The Ivy Envy Podcast. He has been a Cubs fan since 1985 and he and his co-hosts discuss the Cubs from a fan perspective on his show. Corey and I talk about a variety of different things on today's podcast, but what I found most interesting are the creative ways Corey and his co-hosts are monetizing the podcasts through meet ups and the use of Patreon. It's definitely worth a listen! Aside from that, we talk about Facebook, fan engagement, and even honey bees! 03:35 - Corey had no idea what he was doing when he first launched his podcast. 06:50 - Corey didn't think about format in the beginning. 10:35 - Corey recommends you host meet-ups even if you know no one will show up, because it gets you comfortable with being out of the studio. 15:15 - What has Corey learned about audio since creating the podcast? 16:25 - It can only get so good when you rely on the internet to record your podcast. 16:55 - Content is more important than audio quality, to a degree. 18:00 - An audience that has been built organically has much more staying power. 18:45 - Corey didn't pay attention to the numbers, because he really enjoyed engaging with the audience, not matter how small it was. 19:15 - It changes your perspective when you look at your download numbers and compare it to speaking to that many people in a room. 27:20 - Does Corey remember a time when he had a connection with a listener that took him aback? 27:50 - Respond to your audience and really take the time to nurture that connection. 28:20 - You have to build your listenership one fan at a time. 31:15 - A majority of Corey's listeners are on Facebook, but he still engages quite a bit with them on Twitter. 33:20 - Corey created a Facebook group for his Patreon supporters. 41:25 - For his sports podcast, Corey does make it clear to everyone that he and his co-hosts are sports fans, not experts. 48:35 - Corey talks about his other podcast, Podcasters' Group Therapy. 53:10 - What is the most misunderstood thing about Corey? 56:20 - When was the last time Corey laughed out loud? 57:35 - What has Corey changed his mind about recently? Click to Download Welcome the the first episode of Because of My Podcast. Its a podcast where people finish the sentence, because of my podcast_____. Today you're going to hear my story. I had been podcasting for 10 years. My background is in training, and I've been helping people understand technology and software for over 20 years. The current director of podcasting for the New Media Expo had stepped down and they needed a new one. Behind the scenes, the man (Rick Calvert) that ran the New Media Expo approached Libsyn. Libsyn is a podcast media hosting and their VP of Podcast Relations knows everybody in the space. So when Rick asked Rob who he thought might be a good fit, Rob answered, "What do you think about Dave Jackson." Rick then went to Blubrry and spoke to their CEO and asked him for some names. Todd answered, "What do you think about Dave Jackson?". Rick then went to Spreaker and spoke with Rob Greenlee. What did Rob say? You guessed it, "What do you think about Dave Jackson?' How did these podcasting companies know me? Because they all listened to my podcast. The podcast positioned me as an expert. It allowed me to show I was competent, and it also allowed me to interview all of them in the past and start building a relationship. So why start a podcast? Be seen as an expert Establish relationships Next Episode Corey Fineran from the Ivy Envy Podcast thought his podcast was being shut down, but it turned out to be something completely different. I'm Craig. This is Reza. If you are a new listener, If this is your first time here, welcome! We are going to help you improve your English, grow your grammar, vocalize your vocabulary and perfect your pronunciation! In this episode: Adverbs of frequency and strong collocations Listener Feedback: Hello my friends, I am from Argentina and, of course, you are my friends because you travel in my car every day when I go to my work, 15 minutes each time (each way / there and back)), 4 times a day. I really like you and I enjoy your podcasts. I listen (TO) them again and again. I have got them in my mp3 player and I laugh with your laughings (with your laughter/I laugh when you laugh/I laugh aloud with you). I am trying to listen and listen because it is very difficult to me to understand conversations, I read English good enough (quite well/well enough) and my interest is for traveling to other countries. Please correct this and I send a big hug to both of you. A question from Pau (the question king!) You look very much happier today, David! (is it correct?), I am telling you that (asking you this) because I have found that it is possible to use "very much" with the comparative, but I don't see the particle "than" anywhere, so I'm a bit confused... Go to: Patreon.com/inglespodcast (First sponsor Corey fron Ivy Envy POdcast about the Chicago Cubs baseball team - ivyenvy.com - Corey Fineran on YouTube for videos which will help you get a job) Grammar: Adverbs of Frequency siempre - always casi siempre - almost always normalmente - usually, normally a menudo - often a veces - sometimes raramente - rarely casi nunca - hardly ever nunca - never We usually put adverbs of frequency BEFORE the main verb (antes del verbo principal): "I usually get up at 8." - Usualmente me levanto a las 8. This is also true if there is an auxiliary verb: "I have often thought of emigrating." - He pensado muchas veces en emigrar. But, we put adverbs of frequency AFTER the verb TO BE: (después del verbo "to be"): "Reza is never late" - Reza nunca llega tarde. (Reza is occasionally late - occasionally = ocasionalmente) Sometimes, adverbs of frequency can be put at the beginning or at the end (en posición final o inicial): "Normally, I get up at 8." - "I get up at 8, normally." Expressions of frequency: una vez a la semana - once a week dos veces al día - twice a day tres o cuatro veces al mes - three or four times a month todos los viernes - every Friday cada dos horas - every two hours todos los días - every day How often do you..... go back to Belfast? - 3 or 4 times a year How often do you visit your family in Moraira? - about twice a month / every 2 weeks have a fried English breakfast? - I hardly ever have on these days drink Guinness? - I often drink Guinness when I'm in Ireland, but I almost never drink Guinness when I'm in Spain speak Valencian? - rarely, 3 times a year Watch football - very rarely go to bed before 11pm - not often, about once a week wear socks with sandles - now, never! swear (decir palabrotas, soltar tacos) - once or twice a day record a podcast - about once a fortnight, once overy 2 or 3 weeks get your haircut - about once every 2 or 3 months Vocabulary: Strong collocations Sometimes in English you might come across two words joined together with "and". The order of these words is a very strong collocation and it's usually fixed. For example, fish and chips (no se dice Xchips and fishX). Here are some more examples: neat and tidy pros and cons (advantages and disadvantages) gin and tonic rock and roll trial and error peace and quiet toast and marmalade stocks and shares black and white thunder and lightening Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls life and death right and wrong black and blue thick and thin in sickness and in health for better and for worse Craig and Reza's Weekly wind-ups (to wind up = annoy, irritate, bother: fastidiar, disgustar, molestar) Reza: People who ask a question and then don't listen to what you say Craig: The number of messages, alerts or "things you have to deal with" on apps - Facebook, Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, always that small number, in a circle, on your phone (more than your PC) it signifies "there's something I haven't done."
