Over in Seattle, in a well-seasoned bar, somewhere in a single situated chair with a particularly choice view sits our guest today, Mr. Jeff Barlow, waiting. He's got a sketchpad, stuff to draw with, and an impressive ability to trust his own process in the moment - the envy of any creative. The band, who's about to provide live music for the night, is about to have their picture taken, and not in the way they're probably used to. Draw it in One, Jeff's professional tagline, refers to how he approaches his sketches. He draws the band in, well, one song. The result is raw and often emotional moments of what he sees in front of him in that amount of time. I think his work is a fantastic example of how trusting the process can be riveting, scary, and beautiful. I, an overthinker, find a lot of lessons in that.Check out Jeff's work at @Drawitin1 and his website: drawitin.oneVisit our website: sustainableculture.onlineFollow us on instagram @sustainablecultureonline

Jeff's unique artistry involves attending live music shows and sketching the bands as they perform, capturing the energy and essence of their music in his drawings. His art is created in the time the band performs one song. With an impressive portfolio that includes notable musicians and encounters with bands like X and Mike McCready, Jeff shares his experiences and insights into the local music scene. Join us as we dive into the world of live music sketching and discover the interconnectedness of art, music, and the vibrant Washington State community.
This is the first in our line of podcasts from the Western Hunting and Conservation Expo. Interviews With The Hunting Masters - Big game Hunting podcast
Hunting, Kids, and Conservation with Jeff Barlow Show Notes: I sat down with Jeff Barlow, owner of SneekTec, at the Hunt Expo to talk about some things we deal with as hunters today. Jeff is a lifelong hunter, so he had plenty of great information and insight to share. We kicked off by talking about hunting with our kids. It can be a struggle to keep kids entertained, but Jeff and I agree that people generally underestimate young ones. If we push our kids to perform, it's amazing what they can do. We both love hunting with our kids – it was great to swap some stories about those experiences. From there, we talked about how to teach the kids how to shoot. This got us on the subject of hunting and shooting practice, and what kind of drills can help improve accuracy. Shooting targets is one thing, but hunting in the field is another skill entirely. I also talked with Jeff about Howl for Wildlife. In today's world, it's more important than ever that hunters stand up for our sport. We went through how we got started, and some of the organization's earliest victories. During my work with Howl for Wildlife, we've learned a lot, so it was great to talk about hunting activism with Jeff. Before we wrapped up, Jeff talked a bit about SneekTec, and what they're working on these days. What's' Inside: -How to hunt with kids. -It's important to push your children to be their best. -Shooting drills for fitness and accuracy. -How we started Howl for Wildlife, and what the organization does today. -What SneekTec is, and how it's useful for hunters. Mentioned in this episode: Howl for Wildlife: https://www.howlforwildlife.org/ Phoenix Shooting Bags: https://www.phoenixshootingbags.com/ SneekTec Boots: https://sneektec.com/ Short Description: Jeff Barrow and I sat down to talk about a few things we deal with as hunters and parents. We discussed how to take kids hunting – and how to make sure they actually enjoy it. From there, we went on to discuss Howl for Wildlife, how the organization started, and the importance of hunting activism today. Budget Strategies: What Have We Learned from the Lockdown? About three weeks ago, May 14, 2020, the financial crisis was looming, but the details were still vague. Since then several courts have been forced to begin budget cuts that have included layoffs and furloughs. Yet even now all we can say about the national situation is, it remains fluid. Dread over the upcoming economic statistics turned to excitement on Friday, June 5th as the unemployment numbers were better than expected. Still, unemployment remains well above the highest numbers seen during the 2008 recession. What do we know now after several weeks have gone by? Have courts adapted their plans to the changing economic situation? This week panelists are asked a question by listener Jeff Barlow on the difference between the “thin the soup” and the “ration the soup” strategies for court budget reductions. The panel also talks about how to manage through layoffs and employee furloughs; charging for establishing time payment schedules; extending those schedules out to help defendants through the recession; coping with an expected increase in default judgments, landlord-tenant disputes, and home foreclosures; finally panelists predict what the next 12 months will hold for the courts. This Week's Panelists: Zenell Brown has garnered respect both as Executive Court Administrator for the Third Circuit Court in Detroit, Michigan, and for her ethical leadership and innovation. Zenell has a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School, a Public Service Administration Graduate Certificate from Central Michigan University, and a Court Administration Certificate from Michigan State University. Richard J. "Rick" Pierce is the Judicial Programs Administrator of the Judicial District Operations and Programs Department, at the Pennsylvania Administrative Office of the Courts. Prior to his current position, he was the district court administrator for Cumberland County. He graduated from Washington and Lee University, and received his Masters in Public Administration from Shippensburg University. Angela S. "Angie" VanSchoick is the Court Administrator with the Town of Breckenridge Municipal Court. She received her MSW from the University of Michigan in 2007. She also assist the Court and with the Colorado Association for Municipal Court Administration. Elizabeth "Liz" Rambo is the Trial Court Administrator for Lane County Circuit Court in Eugene, Oregon. She graduated with high scholarship from Oregon State University with a BA in history and has an MBA from Portland State University. Chris Gaddis has been the Court Administrator for the Superior Court of Washington for Pierce County for 4 years. Prior to working for the court, he served in law enforcement. He is a member of the Washington State Jury Diversity Task Force and the Washington State Supreme Court Minority and Justice Commission Public Trust and Confidence Committee. Michael Roddy is the Executive Officer of the Superior Court of San Diego County. Prior to his current position he served as the California Administrative Office of the Courts’Regional Administrative Director for the Northern/Central Region, and was Executive Officer of the Sacramento Superior Court. Mark A. Weinberg is the Court Administrator for the Seventh Judicial Circuit in Daytona Beach, Florida. Prior to his current position, he was an administrator with the court in Maricopa County, Arizona. Episode 15 was a fun and easy episode to record. McCade spent the day shed hunting with Jeff Barlow, of Nimrod Outdoors, and his boy. Jeff found a nice single elk shed, while McCade ended up just hiking his guts out, as per usual! After a long day spent outdoors, they met up at the Barlow home in Emery County, and recorded their conversations. Jeff started Nimrod Outdoors, as a way to get more involved with his kids in the outdoors, and to share the adventures they have together! As a father of 7 kids, 6 boys and 1 girl, and living in the age of social media, he found it was a great way to connect with his growing children. Nimrod Outdoors has now expanded outside of the Barlow family, and includes 6 other fathers. With the expansion, they are getting more and more kids, who may not have an opportunity otherwise, involved in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. The name Nimrod, is derived from the Bible. Nimrod was known as a powerful man on earth, as well as a mighty hunter. As a religious man, a good father and husband, and a passionate outdoorsman, the name was a great fit, and the page Nimrod Outdoors was born! In one of their YouTube videos, Jeff’s oldest boy, Josh, shot a bull elk on a limited entry hunt in Utah. The bull ended up dying in a very challenging place to recover. Jeff recounts the “fun” memory of recovering the bull! Definitely go watch the video! Jacob, the second oldest Barlow bow, is a very talented baseball player! He loves hunting so much that he decided to quit baseball this year and spend more time on the mountain, shed hunting. Everyone knows that Jacob has incredible eyesight, and seems to ALWAYS be able to spot critters! Recently, little Joe, at 14 years old, was able to harvest his first turkey, and starts off the podcast by recounting his hunt. Also, go watch Joey’s first deer hunt on the Nimrod Outdoors Youtube Channel. His reaction is PRICELESS!!! Jace is turning 12 this year, and is very excited to hunt! The lonely daughter in the family, Maddy, makes her dad proud! She has her very own bow, and even asked for a BB Gun for Christmas. The two youngest boys watch hunting videos and participate in some outdoors adventures. Momma Nimrod also hunts, and with 20+ elk points, is looking forward to drawing a coveted Limited Entry Elk Tag in Utah soon! If you’re a father or mother, who is interested in getting your children interested in the outdoors, follow Nimrod Outdoors on social media for ideas! Jeff and his kids have a great relationship, and a lot of fun on all of their adventures. You can find them on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even Snapchat!!
