Monte Holm spent his early years working on a farm in Idaho, and at age 17 moved himself to St. George, Utah, where he worked odd jobs in construction, finished high school, joined the Church, and chose to serve a two-year mission in North Carolina. Following his mission and studying at Dixie State University, Monte co-founded and built a successful financial services business with hundreds of offices across North America. He has served as elders quorum president, bishop, and stake president, and with his wife Lisa served as leaders of the South Carolina Columbia Mission, and have also served on corporate boards and as trustees for charitable organizations. Monte authored the book Expect to Win and he and Lisa are often asked to speak at conventions, universities, and at business, church and charity events. They currently live in St. George, Utah, and have six children and 23 grandchildren. Highlights 02:10 Monte grew up in a fundamentalist community but joined the Church when he was 17 years old. He talks about his conversion story. 06:50 He served a mission at age 19 and was called to North Carolina. He later served as mission president in South Carolina. 08:10 After getting home from his mission he was mentored by a man that he met on the mission in the financial services industry. 09:30 Monte talks about his first leadership experiences in the Church shortly after joining. His Bishop gave him a calling right away and has been one of the most influential people in his life. 12:00 Monte has had the opportunity to serve as an elders quorum president, bishop, and stake president. One of the things that he learned about the most is love. When it's about the people you serve and not about you, you lose yourself in their lives and not your own. 13:30 Examples of showing love 17:45 Transitioning from being a bishop to stake president. One thing that he learned and that he really felt in this transition was that duty is more important than pleasure. 21:40 Monte served as stake president for seven years due to moving out of the area. He felt like it was his duty to stay for the nine years but had a very instructional calling with a general authority. The Lord has also prepared others to take our place. It's okay to have changes. 26:50 Transitioning out of being a stake president. 28:30 Monte was called to be a mission president before he was a bishop and stake president. He tells the story of getting called by Elder Holland. 31:00 How being a mission president before being a stake president impacted how he served as a stake president. 33:15 How he handled meetings with young people that were preparing for a mission. Things he did to make sure they were prepared. 35:50 Starting out as mission president in South Carolina. Monte talks about the process of getting prepared and trained beforehand. 38:10 Casting a vision on his mission and missionaries. Aligning your vision with the Lord and the first presidency. 43:40 Reflections on being a mission president for three years in South Carolina. Things that he taught his missionaries. Setting culture through mottos and sayings. 50:00 There are really only two things that inspire people: things that they see and things that they hear. My long-time friend Gregory Layton (RM, Former Student Body President at Dixie State University, MBA University of Utah, early 30s, single) joins us to share his journey with crippling anxiety and scrupulosity. Gregory shares how “for the last five years of my life, I lived in a mental torture prison called scrupulosity”. Gregory talks about how this is a mental health issue and not a spiritual weakness and needs to be solved experts in this area and the right kind of therapy. Gregory talks about how he turned to increased religious behaviors (6-10 hour per day in the temple, listening to multiple conference talks, etc) is his determination to end his intrusive thoughts and feelings of not being square with God. All this with a pure and humble desire to hear the Holy Ghost so he could make the right decisions in his life—but all of this only adding to his anxiety and scrupulosity—causing Gregory to feel worse and suicidal at times. Gregory talks about only when he framed this as a mental illness, did he get the help he needed. Gregory talks about how he is such a better and more sustainable place—and able to live with uncertainly—and also peace that the core of Gregory is good, and God will continue to guide him. This is a powerful and brave podcast for someone I deeply admire and respect. Hearing his story only increases my love, admiration, and respect for Gregory. If you are working to see, understand, and/or solve scrupulosity, Gregory's story will help you. And if you have a loved one on this road, Gregory's story will give you insights on how to better help them. Thank you, Gregory, for being on the podcast. You are a good man with a bright future. My good friend Nurse Carly joins me on the podcast this week and shares her experiences working both as a nurse and mother of young children. It is common for parents to feel guilt working when they have a young family to care for at home as well. Carly shares how she was able to overcome these feelings of guilt and find joy in both of her important jobs. She also shares what it was like working in her cardiac unit when COVID-19 hit, and how her role changed from cardiac nurse to ICU nurse in the height of the pandemic.Show Notes:-Carly earned her ASN from Dixie State University in southern Utah.-Worked in an assisted living facility as her first job. Saw the effects of budget cuts on that setting and how hectic life became when staff had to be reduced.-Earned her BSN through Dixie on line in 1.5 years. -Moved to a hospital setting working on a Med Surg floor to get well rounded experience. -Eventually moved to a Cardiac unit working nights. -The flexibility of nursing makes it possible to move hours around to fit the current needs of her family. Moved to PRN to be home with her children more.-COVID-19 caused many changes in her hospital as they prepared for the surge of patients to come. Her unit became an overflow area for COVID patients and she was "trained" as an ICU nurse to help manage the uptick in patients. After graduating from Western High School and winning a state title, I enrolled at the University of Arizona and began my basketball journey. I played one season for a Hall of Fame coach for Lute Olson but after my freshman season, I transferred to Dixie Junior College which is now Dixie State University, where I played for Dave Rose. My story didn't end here, instead, it took an upward trend when I joined Southern Utah University for my last two collegiate seasons and played for their all-time winningest coach Bill Evans. Although I only played two stellar seasons for the Thunderbirds, I was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. While pursuing my desire of making an NBA roster, I decided to try the European market because of the NBA lockout in 1995. I spent over thirteen-years playing professionally in Austria's first league, France's second league, Portugal's first league, England's first league, Switzerland's first league, and Germany's first and second leagues. I've won multiple titles and even played for Austria's National team as a Neutralized Austrian citizen. After retiring as a player, I coached at various levels in Germany, including the first league, for over eight years. They have invited their students Angie, Blair, and Courtney to discuss challenges they faced in dental hygiene education and ways hygiene educators can set up students for success. Angie is about to start her final year at Dixie State University, Blair is a recent graduate from the Texas Woman's University, and Courtney is about to graduate.   In this episode, Angie, Blair, and Courtney each describe the challenges they faced as new students of dental hygiene, including the effects of the pandemic and the changes that came with going online for learning. They also discuss how instructors have been helpful with resources, why good communication is important between instructors and students, the importance of mentors, and then round off the episode by giving advice to dental hygiene educators from their perspective as students.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:   Interview starts: 2:30   -   What was overwhelming to Angie as a new hygiene student -   Blair explains feeling out of place as a new student -   How a year break from school made Courtney anxious about going back -   Transitioning online during the pandemic -   How do educators assist students with resources? -   Why good communication is important -   Face-to-face communication versus online -   The importance of constructive pep talks -   The benefits of having different instructors -   Why there is a need for mentors -   How instructors help with the workload -   Advice from a student's perspective -   How personal is too personal? -   3 tips for dental hygiene educators   QUOTES:   “The biggest thing I remember, especially on my first day, the first summer classes, was just feeling so alone in the fact that I felt kind of unworthy to be there.”   “I just remember being so excited that it was finally here. I've been set on being a dental hygienist since I was in junior high.”   “Don't be nervous to ask for specifics.”   “It's all about teamwork and getting through with our classmates.”   “I just really value face to face communication when it's possible”   “It's interesting how education has changed. When I was a student, I would always just go directly to the office, I don't feel like we communicated via email a whole lot.”   “So every time someone would stop and ask me for my reasoning, that is what helped me more.”   “I think I hesitate too long oftentimes in clinic to ask for help or for an instructor to kind of give me guidance on things.”   “There is always a point in school that feels like you can't do it anymore. It's too much, but you can always just hang on.”   “Everybody teaches differently, everybody learns differently.”   “You're there to learn and grow from each other's experiences, there to learn and grow from the experiences of your instructors, and to really become the best hygienists possible.”   “When I can connect with an instructor I feel so much more comfortable asking them for help.”   “The only thing harder than being a dental hygiene student is being a dental hygiene educator.”     LINKS:   A Tale of Two Hygienists Podcast   A Tale of Two Hygienists homepage   AToTH on Facebook   AToTH on Instagram   AToTH on LinkedIn   PDT Homepage   HYGIENE EDGE homepage

St. George Real Estate Podcast with Jeremy Larkin

Here's an abbreviated history of how the “Dixie Rock” came to be. Today we're taking a closer look at the “Dixie Rock,” where it came from, and why it has this name. Originally, it was called the “Sugar Loaf”. When the pioneers came here in the 1800s, the shape of this rock looked like a loaf of sugar from the valley below. The color and the shape resembled the sugar of their time, so that's why they nicknamed it as such. There was even a restaurant called The Sugar Loaf.  It's now Cafe Sabor, a killer Mexican joint that draws crowds from all over.  Some write it “Sugarloaf”, while others use “Sugar Loaf.”  In 1913, students at the Dixie Academy came up here and painted the word “Dixie” across the front of the Sugar Loaf. Dixie, referring to the “heart of the south” and the fact that original pioneers who came to St. George did so to raise cotton, a key southern crop. “It was originally called the Sugar Loaf.” The name has been controversial over the last few years, to say the least. Dixie State University has been under a lot of fire because people are tying the name to the South. The bottom line is that it has a very different connotation here in Utah, but people will feel the way they do, and I'm not here to tell anyone how to feel.  I graduated from Dixie High School, Dixie State University, and even Dixie Academy, so Dixie Rock has been part of my entire life. Every spring, DHS has “D week” where students have the opportunity to come up and paint over the “Dixie” on the rock with a fresh coat of paint. That's why it always looks so bright and vibrant. There you have it, the history of The Dixie Rock!  If you have any questions for us about this incredible community, and of course, St. George Real Estate, don't hesitate to reach out via phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you soon. -Jeremy Larkin

Utah Lacrosse Report

Good afternoon lacrosse fans! I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and thank you for spending some time reading the Utah Lacrosse Report. I sure missed watching the NCAA Championships this weekend! I was telling my kids about the tradition of Memorial Day weekend (both in and out of the lacrosse community) and it made me reflect on watching my first NCAA Championship in the Spring of 2000. I had played lacrosse for about 3 months at that point and had never seen college lacrosse. Admittedly, to a 15-year-old, it was the first time I'd heard of Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays fell to Syracuse, 14-12, on Saturday. You can watch the full game here. The other game that day featured Princeton beating Virginia, 12-11. That set up the final which led to a 13-7 win for Syracuse. Liam Banks and Ryan Powell were the studs for the Orange. Josh Sims, a decorated midfielder, led Princeton. It was an eye-opening experience as a young lacrosse player and I'm grateful for every Memorial Day weekend since. What has been your favorite Memorial Day weekend memory? News & UpdatesYouth/High SchoolWell, there will be lacrosse this Spring after all! Intermountain Lacrosse (IMLAX) released guidelines last week outlining the rules/adjustments that were made to accommodate the situation. I won't go into detail as to what they said, just know that lacrosse at the youth level will happen this year. The lone part that stood out to me was that there will be no face-offs. This actually happens yearly in Utah in the form of the girls' high school Super 7s league each fall. I personally think it's a great format, especially under the circumstances. The high school level gets a little trickier. The IMLAX teams minus a few who opted out will have a two-week tournament starting next weekend. The games will be tournament length and also have no face-offs. It's not 100% yet but it sounds like that is the direction it is heading. The UHSAA teams are considered club teams since May 22 and are on their own. It looks like many are setting up games with each other. I'm hearing that the girls' teams will put something together as well, likely a 7x7 tournament. For both the youth and high school IMLAX leagues, coaches, officials and players will be screened before the game using a chatbot that will ask questions. I'd love to hear your feedback on if you think removing the face-off is a good idea or not so shoot me a note or reply at the bottom. PLLAn interesting article came through my newsfeed this week. From the Observer Today (New York), an interview with Zed Williams (NLL Georgia/PLL Whipsnakes) mentioned that Utah is in the running to host the PLL Championship Series. “The PLL is like a tour,” Williams said. “The league usually travels to designated spots, but this year they are going to play in one location that hasn't been determined yet. The games will be streamed and be on the NBC sports networks.”Williams said that a couple of the locations in mind are Massachusetts or Utah, but nothing is set in stone. Well, what an interesting twist! When the league announced a quarantined event somewhere, I thought Florida or California would be the go-to choices, but it sounds like it could be here. That makes sense if you think about it. One of the ‘cons' of having an event here is our relatively small lacrosse community compared to other parts of the country, however, in a quarantine event, that all goes away. If you look at just facilities, ease of travel, low amount of COVID-19 cases compared to other states, health systems, etc., then Utah is a great place to hold an athletic event! OtherSt. Johns published an article about former Riverton stand-out, Mikala Davis. ESPN analyst Paul Carcaterra interviewed Bubba Fairman on Twitter. It's a four-tweet series so be sure to catch all four!Senior SpotlightsThe Deseret News published its shoutout to Seniors: Boys | Girls The Herald Journal also published an article about the lacrosse season getting canceled.Thank you to the coaches who submitted these! Corner Canyon BoysTyson Packer - Tyson is a 2020 senior captain. One of the first there and last to leave. Tyson is a great example on and off the field. His ‘All In' attitude has been contagious amongst the team. We thank Tyson for the wonderful example he has set for the younger players. Sam Peterson - Sam is a first-year varsity player who was asked to change positions from attack to defense. Sam is definitely a We Not Me guy. Without hesitation he made the switch and quickly earned the nickname ‘6 Piece' by his teammates for getting ‘nuggets' (constantly being in passing lanes and knocking the ball down). He has been a great addition to the team and a great teammate. Jacob Simpson - Jake Simpson, aka ‘The Flying Dutchman', has been putting balls in the back of the net for Corner Canyon for the past 3 years. A senior captain, Jake had averaged 60 points the previous two seasons and was already up to 19 points in 3 games for the 2020 season. Jake's ‘All In' attitude on the field led to many great plays but made him an even better teammate off the field. Maxwell Covey - Max is a great athlete but his willingness to do whatever it takes for the team is where he really shines. D-Mid is a no-frills position in today's game of lacrosse and Max embraces his role. His ‘Do Your Job' attitude sets him apart and makes him part of one of the top D-Mid units in the state. He is a great example of what a Corner Canyon player is all about and he has made Corner Canyon Lacrosse better by being involved.Zach Meyer - Zach Meyer, known by the coaches as ‘The Intern', is the coolest under pressure and fastest guy on the field. You may not always be able to tell by his laid back demeanor but Zach is one heck of a competitor. Always willing to do what helps the team, his ‘We Not Me; attitude translated into him playing both offensive midfield and defensive midfield. Zach was part of our three short stick defense at times this year because we were so comfortable having him on the field. The only guy we asked to be a two-way midfielder, Zach excelled in whatever we asked him to do.Andrew Ballman - Andrew Ballman, aka ‘Balls', follows in the tradition of aggressive and gritty defensemen at Corner Canyon. From the moment he put on the Chargers colors he has been a great addition to our defense. His ‘All In' attitude on the field helps anchor our defense. He definitely makes attackmen think twice about trying to get to the middle of the field.Jacob Holmberg - Jacob Holmberg was new to the varsity team this year. Jake is a guy who leaves it all out on the field. Willing to do whatever is needed to help the team, he played both LSM and D-Pole. His ‘We Not Me' attitude shined during our first three games this year, jumping in wherever he was needed. Jake was a great example to the younger guys on what it meant to be a great teammate.Chaz Cutrer - Senior captain Chaz Cutrer has played many different roles for the varsity team over the last three years. An outstanding leader, Chaz is willing to accept whatever role the coaches have asked of him. He has played offensive midfield, attack and this year, defensive midfield. Never one to back down to a challenge, Chaz' ‘Do Your Job' attitude propelled our team to the right mindset from the start of the year through our first three games. Blake Luper - Blake Luper has been a varsity guy at Corner Canyon for three years. A fierce competitor and senior captain, Blake has shined this season from the very start, netting 5 goals in our home opener. A guy who has been ‘All In' from the beginning Blake has spent many hours on the wall and in the gym and it was on full display this year. Blake embraced his leadership role with tremendous passion and brought everyone up to his level. Thank you Blake for all the hard work.Nicolas Hiner - Nic Hiner is another one of our blue-collar workers. He doesn't complain, he doesn't hesitate, he doesn't waver. He just asks what he can do to help and gets to work. His ‘Do Your Job' attitude was evident from the very start of the year when he was asked to move from midfield/attack to be a FOGO. Not only did he embrace the new job, but he excelled at it, winning all but 3 face-offs in his first two games. In his third game, due to another player's injury, he had to shoulder the entire load and helped us to a 10-3 halftime lead. Nic is a great example of putting the team first.Jordan BoysBrad Forbush - Favorite thing about playing lacrosse or for Jordan: Getting to play with everyone on the team. It didn't matter the skill level, everyone was included and played together as a team. Bradley plans to college at SLCC for the first year and then transfer to Dixie State College. Bradley has enjoyed all of his experiences at Jordan, that have built many friendships and provided so many great memories.Korben Gawrych - Gawrych began playing lacrosse last year for the first time and really enjoyed the game. His position was defender and he fearlessly defended the goal against the opposing team. He was looking forward to another great season but sometimes things don't always turn out the way we plan. It was fun while it lasted. He appreciates the life lessons taught by coach Spendlove both on and off the field, he is a great role model for the boys. After graduation Korben plans to serve a mission and following his mission, college, where he will pursue his goal of becoming an architectural landscaper. He loves being outside; hiking, camping and snowboarding, anything that gets him in the mountains. He loves music and has an appreciation for all genres. He has played the guitar from a young age and is a very good musician. Parker has always had a love for sports and any kind of fun, high energy activity. He's a natural athlete and has always been full of life, ready for the next adventure! His competitive nature keeps his energy high and his excitement for the game entertaining! Parker is a loyal, kind, and easy-going kid who connects with people and loves life. It has been a highlight of his senior year, unfortunately, a short-lived highlight, but one none the less. Talon is ready to graduate and start a new chapter of his life. He is weighing out all his options so his plans after graduation are still to be determined.Chase Fairbanks - Fairbanks has been playing lacrosse since kindergarten. He has played every position including goalie but at 6'3”, he ultimately found his groove as a long pole defender. Chase's favorite thing about Jordan lacrosse has been being a part of a team that feels more like a family where everyone pushes and encourages each other along the way! It is an added bonus to feel like he's playing the game he loves with a big group of awesome friends. Chase has been accepted to Southern Utah University's helicopter pilot program in the fall and is anxious to move south and start working toward getting up in the air.Taylor Rieben - Taylor loved ‘Vibin' with the boys. Lacrosse has been Taylor's life for five years. He plays year-round and has loved it. We couldn't be more proud of him, watching him from just learning to play to be a strong player and leader on his team. This last season has been tough for him, us and I am sure his entire team to miss out on. The blessing through it all is his amazing teammates and coach. Taylor has made lasting friendships in his teammates and his coach and as his parents we couldn't ask for more from this fabulous group of boys we have watched grow, learn and play. We will miss watching Taylor play at Jordan, but we can't wait to see where his future takes him and what his next adventure will be. Lucas has always loved his teammates and has played with some of them for many years. After high school, Lucas plans to attend UVU and serve an LDS mission. He wants to become a teacher. We know wherever he lands he will do great things and we can't wait to see them. We love you Lucas and we are so proud of you.Stockton Glover - Stockton was just 3 years old when we went outside one spring day to see what he was doing and found him in his 13-year-old brother's lacrosse gear; complete with helmet, pads, cleats, stick and ball. Though he could hardly move with all the big gear on, he knew exactly how to put it on and he was scooping that ball for all he was worth! Because his two older brothers were playing, he couldn't wait to turn five so he could play Storm lacrosse on a real team. Stockton has played lacrosse for the past 12 years. He loves the game. He spends countless hours watching college lacrosse on TV and working to understand the strategies of the game and ways to enhance technique. Lacrosse was natural for him as a young player, but having 4 knee surgeries on each knee over the past few years made it a continual battle to try to regain strength, mobility and speed. Still he loves the game and was so disappointed that he was unable to actually play his senior season. Stockton appreciates the tradition that exists with Jordan lacrosse as it was one of the first high school programs in the Salt Lake Valley. He is very grateful for all of the coaches and volunteers who have given of their time and talents for many years to enable him to play the game that he loves. Stockton will be attending one semester at Utah State University this fall, with plans to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints next spring.Wesley Edwards - Edwards started playing lacrosse in the 6th grade and has been playing defense since his freshman year. After graduation, he is headed to Northern California on a Spanish-speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he returns he will attend BYU where he plans to major in History.Zak Thaxton - Zak has played for six years and his favorite thing was being able to be in the weight room and having the team motivate each other to push to our limits. I'm so grateful for the girls and my coaches. After graduation I will be attending Utah Valley University and going to school for Forensic Science to become a Behavioral Analyst for the FBI. I would like to send a special ‘Thank You' to Taylor Stone for encouraging me to try something new and for being the most wonderful coach. Utah Lacrosse Report

Good afternoon lacrosse fans and thank you for reading the Utah Lax Report. This is coming later in the day since I wanted to share some important information from Intermountain Lacrosse. Let's get to it! Intermountain LacrosseI spoke with IMLAX Boys Coordinator, Collin Madsen, about his role in the organization and about the possibility of playing this season. He shared some interesting insight so please give it a listen! It sounds like we'll have to wait until later in the week to see the exact plans and then it will be up to the teams to respond. In my opinion, I think full games for the non-sanctioned high school league would be without fans and temperatures taken before games for coaches and players. For youth, I could see fans spread out but limited to 1 or 2 fans per player. News & UpdatesThe Herald Journal wrote about the Cache Valley girls programs. The Park Record profiled Park City midfielder Brady Baumann and spoke with him about committing to play at Marist. The Daily Universe wrote about the Monson sisters who star on the BYU Women's team.Inside Lacrosse published an article about The Geography of Men's DI Lacrosse. The article broke down where D-I men's lacrosse players are coming from. Players are still coming from traditional hotbeds but the article points out rises in players from Colorado, Michigan and Texas. Along with Georgia, these states produced 13% of the DI men's lacrosse freshmen in 2020. That is nearly double where those states were in 2014 (7%).Since 2014, Utah has had 25 commits. The article breaks it down by county which looks like this for Utah: 1 - Cache Valley 1 - Davis16 - Salt Lake6 - Summit 1 - UtahNote that these are Freshman on D-I teams so Josh Stout, Cam Redmond and Aaron Fjeldsted aren't counted since they weren't Freshman when Utah went D-I. In comparison, Colorado has 164 commits. Senior SpotlightsNext week is the last week that I'll publish these so please get them to me before Sunday! Park City this year where she saved 18 of 27 shots on goal. She will be attending Dixie State in the fall to study Physical Therapy.Olivia Smart: Midfield. Livi's friends convinced her to try lacrosse her Freshman year and the rest is history. Livi is one of our top midfielders. She is a great ball handler, strong defender, very athletic and has a team first attitude. She is going to UVU in the fall and will possibly play lacrosse. She also played tennis and ran cross country. She is a fantastic all around athlete.Logan BoysJordan 'Big J' Brandon - Goalie - Big J is a veteran goalie for LHS. He's fearless in the crease and doesn't mind taking a 80 MPH sidearm to the ribcage. In addition to a big presence in the crease, Big J has great vision on the clear, a trait that most spectators take for granted. Big J has a contagious laugh and a big personality; he always brightens up practice. Big J was a great leader with a big, booming voice calling for the slide. Trevor Bodily - Middie - Trevor was one of our senior captains and an offensive phenom on the field. With one of the biggest lacrosse IQ's I've had the privilege to coach, Trevor always got the ball where it needed to be for the highest percentage shot. He was also great on transition; something every coach wants: an offensive middie that causes havoc on the clear. Trevor was a phenomenal leader who mentored and took extra time to coach up his underclassmen. Maverick Douglas - Middie - This was Maverick's first year playing lacrosse. He came into the sport excited and ready to suit up. He would always be in my classroom asking questions and responding with, "that's sick, coach!" His excitement was contagious.  Maverick worked his butt off in-and-out of practice to get to the level we wanted him to play at. Lacrosse isn't an easy sport to pick up, but Maverick became a great D-middie for us that we could depend on. Brody McKinnon - Middie - Brody decided to come back to the great sport of lacrosse this year after a few years off. A standout track athlete, Brody could zoom across the field in record time. He played the wing on faceoff and never got beat off the whistle. Brody was another of our senior captains who showed his team how to play with passion. Brody's drive to win helped our team develop a competitive edge they thrived on as athletes. Brody could lay the wood, too.Mason 'Finn' Hale - Attack - Our attack captain, Finn played X and became a talented feeder from behind cage. Finn is a true student of the game and was always asking questions, drawing up scenarios, and thinking of the game from many perspectives. He loved standing by coaches to dissect the game. Finn saw lacrosse as a team sport and pushed his teammates to be better individually and as a squad.  Quincy Wildman - Attack - An All-State wrestler, Quincy came back to the game after a few years off. Humble, yet with the strength of an ox, Quincy could truck through just about any defender with ease while still cradling two-handed. Quincy never had a bad attitude; he just put his shoulder down and worked as hard as we asked him to.  An incredible teammate, Quincy can get along with just about anyone; one of those traits that coaches need but is almost impossible to teach.  Lone Peak GirlsAva Neuenschwander - Offense: Ava is extremely passionate. She fights for what she believes in, on and off the field. Ava is always focused. At practice she was always watching others and was focused on her goal of becoming a better lacrosse player. When she has a goal set, you know that she will do anything to reach that goal. Ava was one of our secret weapons. She at times would seem pretty quiet but you could see in her work ethic that she was always listening and learning and would prove that on the field. She could defend on the offensive side like no ones business. She is someone I would pick for my team 10 times out of 10. Ava plans on attending BYU in the fall.Monet Winger - Mid/Center: Monet has such an incredible spirit. She always had a smile on her face and even if she had a rough day, she was still laughing and joking and continued to be a team player. Monet didn't play just one position. She was the whole package. Monet is so fast she was incredibly hard to defeat or defend. Monet's shot was fire. It could come out of nowhere and it was pretty unstoppable. She could stop anyone on defense and she was always ready to make the assist on attack. Monet is a hard worker on and off the field. She was always hustling at practice pushing herself to the max and others, including her teammates, would see that and follow her lead. Monet always put her team first. While being busy with track, school work, and so many other things going on in her life, she always gave her team full dedication. Her team could trust her fully and that is such an amazing quality. Monet plans to attend BYU in the fall and hopes to tryout for the women's lacrosse team.Brooke Galbraith - Mid/Center: Brooke is a force to be reckoned with. She pushed her limits during conditioning even when others wanted the workouts to end. She is committed to the sport that she loves. You can see this in her daily practice as she plays like it is a game and that truly pays off when it is game time. I have never seen a more dedicated player or a girl who loves the game more. Brooke pushes herself to be better in every way, and that motivation will take her so far in life. She was also someone her teammates could always count on. She was where she needed to be at exactly the right times. One of the best defenders and attackers I've ever met and Brookes shot was one of the strongest, most powerful, forceful, finesse filled shots I've ever seen. Brooke is an incredible athlete. She plans to attend Utah State in the fall and hopes to tryout for the women's lacrosse team.Summer Mohowski - Center/Mid: Summer is NUTS. She's loud, constantly excited, and would bring so much spunk to the field. But she is so incredible. She has a smile that can never be copied. It's so contagious. When she wouldn't be at practice and when she would, there was always such a different vibe. She had the ability to pump up her teammates not only when they needed it, but all the time. Summer can make a whole team feel included and united so easily. She also carried that personality with her on the field. She was encouraging to every player out there and would push herself more than we could have pushed her. Despite previous injury setbacks, she continued to work hard and prove her abilities on attack and through the midfield. Like the others, she would observe, improve, and then crush her goals. She had an incredible shot, she was a brick wall on defense, and could win the draw 9 times out of 10. She was always able to channel all her energy into her field play and it worked so well for her. Summer plans on attending UVU in the fall and hopes to serve an LDS mission in the spring.Tiffany Lee - Offense: Tiff is so spunky. Even when training, practices, and our few games became tough she maintained an upbeat attitude and tried to help her teammates remain positive as well. She always has a smile on her face and is ready to take on whatever challenges come her way. She's positive, brings life to the party, is bright, energetic, funny and passionate. As much fun as she had at practice she had just as much passion for the game. Tiff has so much skill on the lacrosse field. Anyone would much rather play with her than against her. She is so fluid in the way she plays and makes it so no matter who she's playing with she makes them look good too. She was also encouraging to the coaches and would cheer us on when things would go right. Tiff plans on attending BYU in the fall and hopes to tryout for the women's lacrosse team.Gwen Chandler - Defense: Gwen picked up lacrosse in the fall having transitioned from soccer and we would have never known she had never played before. Her athletic abilities are outstanding and I'm so glad she chose to make the switch. She is the type of athlete every coach wants on their team because she was always asking for things she could work on so she could get better. Gwen was killer on defense. She was one of the fastest down there. Her team could always count on her to stop the ride down the field or help push the double team. Even having been new to the sport, because of her athletic mindset and previous training, she always knew where to be and when to be there. Gwen is a fantastic player, a fantastic athlete, and she is going to be unstoppable. Gwen plans to attend Utah State in the fall and hopes to tryout for the women's lacrosse team.Isabella Turner - Defense: Izzy is incredible. She is a leader at heart. Any time we asked her to do something, she'd do it. At practice, during conditioning, on the field, it didn't matter. She is more mature than her age would tell which really helped us as coaches a lot. Izzy is also an incredibly dependable leader and she always did it with a smile! She could reel the girls in when we needed them and we could rely on her at any time. Izzy is crazy talented. I don't know who taught her to play but they did a really great job. She is someone you can always count on to be where the ball is, to make the catch, to make the right pass, to defend through the midfield, etc. Just like her teammates, Izzy is a force to be reckoned with. Once you get her down on defense she is a rock, and NO ONE is getting past her. Izzy plans to attend BYU in the fall and hopes to tryout for the women's lacrosse team.Park City GirlsKatherine Luebbers - Started playing in 3rd grade and has played lacrosse ever since. Katherine has played for Park City her whole life including club teams (Mamaci, Tenacity, Select, the Utah National team) and more. SSSooooo this is my first tag team podcast episode and I used one of my best friends, Bruno Silva. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and has a wide variety of experiences. There was no structure, no plan, and totally spur of the moment. We even had talks of redoing it with more structure but felt like using this because while it was a trial run to test things out it is a very real and authentic conversation. I want to show people that it is okay to post things that are not perfect, so here it is. A little bit about Bruno, he currently works football at Dixie State University in St. George, UT, and has had experiences working Arena Football (LA Kiss) and NFL summer/pre-season internship positions with both the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars. We ended up talking a lot about his experience in the Athletic Training profession, what he suggests for those interested in the career and what he learned along the way. We also ended up talking about Athletic Training business within the clinical setting. Hopefully this provided you some value and you enjoyed the talk, if you did please tweet me @elikassab and let me know! I would really appreciate it!
