FLAME University's India Centre hosted the 37th webinar on India Studies, featuring Dr Shylaja B S., Visiting Scientist, Bangalore Association for Science Education, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore. Titled 'Ancient Indian Astronomy - efforts to achieve the right model of planetary motion,' the talk will outline the methods used by Indian astronomers to predict planetary positions and trace how these techniques advanced from Aryabhata through later scholars. The session will highlight the analytical approaches and scientific progression embedded in this longstanding tradition.Dr B. S. Shylaja worked on the binary stars with Wolf-Rayet components for her doctoral thesis. She continued her research on comets, dwarf novae, and magnetic and metallic (Am) stars. She has authored 150 research papers in astronomy and the history of astronomy. After joining the Planetarium, she engaged in educational activities, including teaching on weekends, producing sky theatre shows, and conducting outreach. She worked on various interactive demonstrations and models and taught a range of age groups. Der Chor «molto cantabile» aus Luzern besteht seit über 20 Jahren und singt auf sehr hohem gesanglichem Niveau. Hochstehender Gesang und professionelle Arbeit schliessen aber eine langjährige, fast familiäre Chorkultur nicht aus. Geleitet wird der Chor von Lea Stadelmann und Chiara Selva. Besondere Chorerlebnisse «molto cantabile» ist nicht nur für seinen schönen Chorklang bekannt. «molto cantabile» legt auch grossen Wert darauf, dem Publikum immer wieder besondere Konzerterlebnisse zu ermöglichen. Dazu gehören Konzerte an aussergewöhnlichen Orten oder Chormusik in Kombination mit weiteren Elementen. So gab «molto cantabile» schon ein Konzert in einem Planetarium oder kombinierte die Chormusik mit Videoprojektionen sowie filmischen oder grafischen Elementen. Dabei stehen diese zusätzlichen Elemente aber niemals in Konkurrenz zur Musik. Die Musik ist stets das Zentrum eines Konzerts. «Winterlicht» Aktuell stehen zwei Konzerte unter dem Titel «Winterlicht» bevor. Diese finden am 6. und 7. Dezember 2025 in der Lukaskirche in Luzern statt. Der Chor «molto cantabile» spannt dabei einen musikalischen Bogen von der Renaissance bis hin zu Vocal-Jazz-Nummern. Das Publikum erlebt so eine Klangreise vom nebligen Novembergrau ins warme Kerzenlicht der Adventszeit

Wie entsteht ein Planetensystem – und warum gleicht dieser Prozess manchmal einer kosmischen Backstube? Telepathic Fish co-founder DJ Food, aka one part of Openmind, takes us on a trip into the world of 90s chill out. Strictly Kev likes the company of plants whilst working on music so that's handy for us isn't it?! We're assuming he's talking about a beautiful Calathea sitting in the corner for inspiration, tho his dream plant setup - a conservatory packed with Romanesco broccoli, trippy Caladiums, and Persian Shields - is something we'd be well on board with too. Enough of the plant talk for a second and back to the music, ambient music to be clear. For those that weren't squatting in South London back in the early 90s, Openmind were the four-piece behind the mighty Telepathic Fish - the legendary ambient afterparty that transformed chill-out rooms from dub-playing afterthoughts into proper destinations. Kev, along with Chantal Passamonte (Mira Calix, RIP), David Vallade, and Mario Aguera, started in a shared house above a shop with no neighbours to complain/bash the door down. What began as art school parties quickly grew into Sunday afternoon sessions in squatted venues - a former dole office in Brixton and even the derelict Roundhouse on New Year's Day. They hosted everyone from Aphex Twin to Mixmaster Morris among wall-to-wall mattresses, UV installations, and  Coldcut's Matt Black with his boundary pushing video projections. The idea was simple: recreate that post-clubbing comedown vibe but on a massive scale, as an "aural and visual blanket" for club-rattled minds. They even published a fanzine called Mindfood and worked at the scene's hub, Ambient Soho record shop, helping shape what Simon Reynolds called a "wombeldelic sound-and-light bath" in contrast to the current trend of hardcore and it's relentless assault. Thirty years on, that spirit's having a comeback. Events like London's A Loose Ting are bringing back the bedding and the hushed reverence, while Berlin's Overflow is going full sensory overload with vibrating mattresses, fountains, and harpists. New York's Planetarium gatherings have people mostly horizontal, inspired by psychedelic therapy sessions. There's even and ambient sauna in South London you might have come across via the wonder of Music To Watch Seeds Grow By's recent takeover.  Our very own Watching Trees dabbled in said chill out space this year, pairing the abstract and the ambient with projected dappled sunlight visuals from the mighty Jamie House. Turns out people still need those little havens away from the madness, especially in this day and age! Also handily 30 years on the Openmind crew have just compiled the first-ever Telepathic Fish retrospective for Fundamental Frequencies - a double vinyl love letter to those hazy early-90s mornings when the music finally slowed down. For this Seeds Mix, Kev has leaned into his love of minimalism and systems music - repetition built from layers of loops offset against each other to form subtle polyrhythms. There's a deliberate avoidance of drum machines here in favour of organic percussion, and around the eight-minute mark, a section from Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia that captures the feeling of being deep in the forest, phone abandoned, discovering that paradise was just a forage away. Der gebürtige Lübecker entdeckte seine Faszination für das Weltall bereits als Kind - ausgelöst durch ein Buch des damaligen Planetariumsdirektors Erich Übelacker. Nach Stationen in Kiel, Heidelberg und Münster erfüllte sich für ihn mit der Leitung des Hamburger Planetariums ein Kindheitstraum. Voss versteht das Planetarium nicht nur als Ort für Sternenkunde, sondern als Raum zum Staunen und Lernen. Seine Mission ist es, Menschen für das Universum und die Wissenschaft zu begeistern. Er sieht seine Arbeit als Verbindung von Forschung, Bildung und künstlerischer Inszenierung: Der Sternensaal sei ein immersives Theater, in dem Wissenschaft emotional erfahrbar werde. Neben astronomischen Programmen finden dort auch Musik- und Kulturveranstaltungen statt. Besonders wichtig ist ihm die Vermittlung an junge Menschen. Begeisterung, sagt er, sei der Schlüssel zu Bildung – nicht trockene Theorie. Wissenschaft solle zeigen, wie außergewöhnlich die Erde ist und wie wertvoll ihr Erhalt. Raumfahrt betrachtet er als sinnvoll, um unseren Planeten besser zu verstehen, nicht um andere zu besiedeln. Voss lebt in Winterhude, nahe seines Arbeitsplatzes, und schätzt die Mischung aus Natur und Kultur in Hamburg, das er augenzwinkernd als "schönste Stadt des Universums" bezeichnet. Für die Zukunft wünscht er sich mehr wissenschaftliche und kulturelle Angebote in allen Stadtteilen - am liebsten kleine Planetarien überall in Hamburg, um möglichst vielen Menschen den Blick zu den Sternen zu öffnen.

24 Jahre lang, zwischen 1909 und 1933, wirkte der gebürtige Bremer Fritz Schumacher in Hamburg als Oberbaudirektor und prägte in dieser Zeit das moderne Gesicht der Hansestadt als Stadtplaner wie auch als Architekt in großem Stile mit. Die Konstante über die wechselvollen Zeitläufe seiner Amtszeit war der Backstein als bevorzugter Baustoff. Stilistisch hingegen zeigte Schumacher durchaus Bereitschaft, mit der Zeit zu gehen: Während die Anfänge seiner Tätigkeit noch eher vom spitzgiebligen Geschmack der Kaiserzeit geprägt waren – siehe etwa die Davidwache auf St. Pauli –, setzte er spätestens ab 1924 zunehmend konsequent auf Projekte im Stile des Neuen Bauens und realisierte unter anderem die Grundbuchhalle, das Krematorium im Friedhof Ohlsdorf sowie über 30 Schulbauten. Auch der spektakuläre Ausbau des Winterhuder Wasserturms zum Planetarium geschah unter seiner Ägide. Obwohl letztgenannte Projekte im Sommer 1925 samt und sonders noch nicht verwirklicht waren, zeichnete sich die Bedeutung Schumachers für die Hamburger Stadtentwicklung anscheinend bereits so klar ab, dass ihn der Hamburger Anzeiger vom 17. August auf halber Strecke mit einer ausführlichen Würdigung ehrte. Es liest sie für uns Frank Riede.

In Folge 136 sind wir immer noch im Urlaubsmodus und Ruth reist mit uns zum Mars. Dort hat man Polarlichter beobachten, und das, obwohl es da gar kein Magnetfeld gibt. Außerdem reden wir über Miyake-Ereignisse, die gewaltige Sonnenstürme auslösen. Wir wissen allerdings noch nicht, wobei es sich dabei handelt. Tja. This video will help you find our three main chemistry classrooms (namely AC 1303, AC 2501 and AC 2507) as well as my office (AC 2568) at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, USA. To get to all of these locations, go to the "F" or "G" parking lots (or as close to them as possible), both of which are located near the main MHCC entrance on NE 29th street and NE Kane Dr. in Gresham ). AC 1303 is on the lower level of the campus, adjacent to the Planetarium.
