In this episode we sit down with our very own Mike Ornoski and listen while he instills years of knowledge as it relates to processing your wild game.   There's nothing better than enjoying the meat from an animal you harvested and it all starts with proper planning, tools, and equipment to clean and process you game meat.  Mike talks about what he uses in the field as well as tips and tricks to turn that whole animal into manageable pieces to pack out and process in the field or at home. In this episode we do a recap of the archery Elk hunt that took place in Northern AZ just last month.  Fellow board members  Mike and Howard along with lifelong CHA member Steve all had September bull tags.   They speak about e-scouting,  finding water, putting boots on the ground, looking for cows in the summer and lots of other tactics.  We share lots of laughs and hear some ups and downs while they recount their stories on an incredible Elk camp.

In this epsiode we spoke with Wayne Wilson from the Phoenix Varmint Callers Inc.  Wayne is a past president of PVCI and has decades of knowledge to share when it comes to hunting Mr. Wile E. Coyote and other varmints. Wayne shares his advice on calling, setups, scouting and lots of other tips on how to be successful when hunting coyotes, foxes, and bobcats. Here is a little background on the group PVCI. The PVCI has a rich history, and being a varmint caller means a lot to many individuals. During the past 30 years, the membership has swelled to over 300 and shrunk to less than 15. The club seems to represent more than just a forum where individuals with similar interest can meet. Members of the PVCI are among the most sincere, dedicated sportsmen to be found in any organization. Many have welded lifelong friendships with fellow members. In this episode we had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Dunn.  He and his wife Janice, have spent years in the backcountry exploring and camping.  They have been involved in the llama business for over 25 years. We had the privilege to sit and speak with Ryan McMillan from Grayboe Stocks.    Ryan is a 3rd generation Rifle stock manufacturer and developed Grayboe to be lightweight, affordable and accurate.  He is a Military Veteran and honorably served as a Navy SEAL.  Most of us can only dream of what it takes to be a part of an elite Military Special Operation Team but Ryan lived it.  He shares some great insight about training, foreign deployments and used those experiences and never quit mindset which helped him tremendously in the business world that he works in now. We get to learn from our very own board member Mr. Howard Frampton, about hunting Turkeys in the springtime here in AZ.  Most of the Turkey hunts in AZ revolve around Merriam's but we do have small pockets of Rio Grandes in northeast AZ as well as the coveted Goulds in southern AZ. In this episode we got to sit down with our friend Grady Schneider again and speak about archery in the off season. In this episode we speak with Greg Napoli, the National Sales Manager for Slik Tripods. We had the pleasure of speaking with the one and only Mr. Dick King. Dick is one of the founding members of what we now call Christian Hunters of America.  He had a vision over 20 years ago and started a small organization of like minded individuals who loved the Lord and enjoyed everything hunting.  We are blessed that Mr. King along with a couple other gentlemen created this great fellowship. While Dick still enjoys hunting he has a passion for Striper Bass fishing.  In this episode he explains the keys to his success.  One of the most important he says is getting up real early in order to catch live bait.  Striper Bass are schooling predatory fish and nothing gets them more excited them seeing a shad swim by for them to swallow up and then it's FISH ON. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Anthony Stallone and finally got to talk about his company Phoenix Shooting Bags. Anthony explains how the company was started by he and his cousin Joe.  They experienced with different bags and fills and finally came up with the design after a lot of trial and error.  We get to learn about how utilizing a proper bag and building that solid and stable foundation is crucial whether hunting or shooting off a bench.  Anthony shares a lot of tips and is a great story teller.  Maybe we'll finally convince Mike to start becoming a long range shooter.  Probably not since he's a diehard archer! We had the pleasure of speaking with Zack May from Southern AZ Quail Forever.   The Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever was formed in 2011 by four current members.  They have members from nearly every western state plus Canada.   The Chapter encompasses Santa Cruz, Pima and Cochise counties which all lie within the south east corner of the State.  This area is home to 3 species of Quail all of which have different habitats.  The Chapter is focused on the concerns encountered with the complex eco-systems of the Sonoran and Chihuanhuan Deserts.   http://www.saquailforever.com

In this episode we speak with Albert Lenerville from HarvestLand TV.   Albert had a calling and has created his program trying to help prevent Veteran suicides.   His program has the ability to take veterans hunting and fishing, supply them fishing poles, and impact their lives in a positive light. Sometimes it just takes little moments to make a positive impact in someone's life. America is currently losing more veterans who return to civilian life than in combat zone and unfortunately loses more people to suicide than any conflict for the last few decades. Statistically, veterans are at a higher risk of suicide than their civilian counter parts. Darr gives a lot of insight on hunting Coues deer,  what it's like to travel to Mexico to chase monster bucks and lots of useful information and techniques    He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and two boys. In this episode we get the pleasure of speaking with Joni Marie.   Joni was born and raised in Alaska and was the co-founder of the largest archery store in the State of Alaska; which she operated for 7 years. During the years that she owned the archery shop she taught thousands of men, women and children how to shoot a bow, outfitted them for their hunts and found a real passion for the education side of hunting. She was incredibly honored to receive the Diana Award from Safari Club International for her work in Conservation and working to grow the sport of archery through education. Joni loves fishing, hiking, photography, looking for sheds, riding her Harley, and is a passionate 2nd amendment supporter. She is an avid bowhunter, having taken 26 big game animals with her bow.  She came up with RO's company motto: "Encourage. Inspire. Empower." because of her outlook on supporting and encouraging other women. "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle" is one of her favorite sayings, meaning that you lose nothing of yourself by cheering on others. She is a firm believer in the power of sisterhood and works hard to have a staff that uphold those values in the way that they represent the brand. In this episode Chet & Mike speak with our CHA president, Dave Myrick and his close friend from Iowa, Steve Hansen.  We were live over the MLK holiday weekend and spoke with Dave and Steve in depth about our mentored hunting camps and how different it is hunting deer in AZ versus Iowa.   Steve has been a friend of CHA for a number of years.  He has his own whitetail outfitting business where he has guided many clients on giant Midwest bucks. He is a dedicated single father, businessman and avid outdoorsman who strives to pass along the family traditions of surviving and thriving in the wilderness to his son.  Brian was taught to shoot by his grandfather when he was about four years old, and his dad taught him how to hunt shortly after. Javelina season is upon us!  There is nothing more exciting for an AZ bow hunter then when December and January come around.   The weather is perfect and anyone can purchase an over the counter tag to use in certain units for Archery.   In this episode we speak with Rick Forrest who is well known for his calling techniques.    Many people for years thought calling in Javelinas was a joke.  Rick has proven that works time and time again.  He has assisted in the taking of well over 100 skunk pigs.  Rick manufactured his own calls several years ago and has honed its efficiency over time.  You'll learn a lot of techniques and tips in this episode.

The AZGFD has been busy with lots of proposed changes lately and have added 3 new scenarios for the over the counter (OTC) archery deer hunts that occur in AZ   Please listen to this short but informative  episode.  The 3 proposals are as follows    Maintain the status quo. Basically, keep doing it the same way we have been doing it. This will lead to more and more OTC hunts being moved to a draw and the eventual closure of all OTC hunts once they exceed 20% harvest and a great loss of revenue. Utilize a harvest threshold system. This is the managment strategy I have been fighting for. Move everything to a draw. In this episode we speak with Kyle Wickert and Brian Bitter.  Both of these men are veterans who have served our country with honor. While both of them grew up in Wisconsin they never met until both their careers began in the military.    Kyle and Brian both served together and met when they were stationed at Camp Bucca and Camp Taji I'm Iraq. In this episode we sit down and speak with Officer Brian Dietz.  Brian is a Game Warden or Wildlife Manager as they are called here in Arizona.  We first met Brian while members of CHA were helping mentor kids during a mule deer hunt in unit 42. Brian explains what it takes to be a Wildlife Manager and what it's like on a daily basis.  He speaks about how the job requires you to be part law enforcement, educator, biologist and many other things that could be called upon any given day.
