Wired for Joy // Week 1
We live in a culture in which many believe that the fruit of the spirit are character traits people are born with, and those who are not born with these attributes must work to attain them. In reality, we do not bear fruit through our own efforts but by yielding to the Holy Spirit. In this series, we'll dissect each fruit, differentiating real fruit from its worldly counterpart. Let's dissect our sixth fruit: joy.***Welcome, we are so glad you have joined us for our church online! If you are new here, we would love to connect with you. Lead Pastor, Mike Mozingo brought a powerful messge on Choosing Joy through our actions and serving. We are all a work in progress, no one will ever be perfect. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't strive to be more like Christ daily!
Join us as Pastor Ken wraps up our summer study in the book of Philippians.
Dream Team and Teaching Pastor, Tony Mest did NOT hold back this week. Unity, humility, selfishness, it was a hard lesson to hear. But absolutely crucial for the body of Christ. If you're looking for TRUE joy, you need to listen to this message.

Luke 2:8-11 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Mark 16:15 15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Psalm 23:5
2 Corinthians 9:7 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Matthew 25:35-40 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?'40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[f] you did it to me.'
As we consider joy during Advent we ask why don't we experience it more here on earth. Our guest this week, Paul Robie, says Christians should be the most joyful people on the planet. We have the Good News to direct our steps and our spirits. This wrestling with joy is likely why joy is an Advent theme since the beginning of Advent themes. We can collectively consider what it means to hold joy in our lives. We can also encourage each other in the practical ways we can cultivate it. Paul is a lifelong pastor, current church consultant, and mentor to seminary students. Practices of faith and how they form us are what he talks about all day long and we get the benefit of his wisdom in this series. Whether you are wondering why others aren't more joyful, or wanting to experience joy this Advent and in the new year, this episode is for you. James 1:17 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Ephesians 2:8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Luke 2:1-7 2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,[b] who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn
This week, we are reflecting on the third advent candle: Joy. The word advent means “coming” or “arrival” and speaks of Jesus' arrival that first Christmas morning in Bethlehem. The season of Advent is a time when we joyously and prayerfully anticipate the celebration of Jesus' first coming. And, we look forward to His second coming, while also affirming that He is present in the world today offering His redeeming love to anyone who will simply receive it. One of the most beautiful symbols of the Advent season is the traditional Advent wreath. This Advent wreath is intended to help us keep our focus on the real reason for the season – the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Each Sunday leading up to Christmas, we will be talking about a different candle – representing, in order, hope, peace, joy, and love – although we usually light these candles in our homes, we obviously can't do that on the podcast, but we will still talk about the candles as a way to remember each week in the advent season. So join us for these 4 Advent weeks and then the final episode on Christmas Day as we set time to focus our eyes, minds, and hearts on Jesus – the true reason for the season.
