Literatur: Gerhart Hauptmann: Die Weber, S. Fischer Verlag. Ditch the Suits - Financial, Investment, & Retirement Planning
Today, we're diving headfirst into the nitty-gritty of estate planning with our special guest, Kristen Luce, Partner at Coughlin and Gerhart, LLP, who knows this stuff like the back of her hand. Our episode kicks off with a casual banter that sets the tone for a relaxed yet informative discussion. Kristen shares her journey and passion for helping clients navigate the often murky waters of estate planning. Together we discuss how many people feel overwhelmed and hesitant to start their estate planning because, let's face it, nobody wants to think about their mortality. But Kristen reassures us that it's all about getting organized and taking proactive steps. We touch on the importance of having a good team in your corner—fee-only financial planners and attorneys who actually communicate and work together.Together, we unravel the mystery of why having a solid estate plan is essential, especially when life throws curveballs your way. We tackle the common misconceptions that make people hesitant to seek professional help and why you should throw your trust into the hands of someone who knows what they're doing (spoiler alert: it's not always the first Google result). Kristen explains how you should navigate the legal labyrinth of financial planning, ensuring you don't end up in a pickle when it counts the most.Takeaways:Ditch the Suits podcast is all about sharing financial insights that the industry prefers to keep hush-hush, helping listeners navigate their money matters like seasoned pros. The transition to Patreon is a game-changer, making past episodes accessible and ensuring you never miss out on new content, so hop on board! Estate planning isn't a one-size-fits-all process; it's crucial to work with an attorney who gets your unique situation and crafts a plan that truly reflects your wishes. Clients often struggle to get organized for estate planning, but with a solid questionnaire and guidance, the process can be smoother and less daunting than you think! Understanding the legal side of financial planning is essential, especially during tough times, as it helps to ensure your family's stability and peace of mind in the future. Communication is key in estate planning; a good attorney listens to what's important to you and explains things in plain English, avoiding the dreaded legalese. ________________________________________Ms. Luce joined Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in 2007 and is a partner with the firm. ecoLocked, backed by over $6 million in funding, is pioneering a revolutionary approach to carbon removal by developing CO2 negative concrete admixes. In a recent episode of Category Visionaries, co-founder and co-CEO Steff Gerhart shared insights into how the company is leveraging biochar technology to transform the construction industry's environmental impact while scaling carbon removal solutions. Topics Discussed: The critical need for scaling carbon removal technologies beyond emission reduction Biochar's dominance in the carbon removal market and its scaling challenges Construction industry's massive environmental impact (15% of global emissions) Product development and market validation in the conservative construction sector Geographic expansion strategy across European markets Building trust and credibility in the risk-averse concrete industry GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Target Early Adopters Strategically: Steff revealed their approach to finding first customers by focusing on concrete producers who already marketed sustainable products and had previous startup partnerships. She explained, "We look for customers who are already marketing their material as environmentally less harmful, sustainable...and we checked that they had either partnered with startups before or they have done some innovative approach within their own operations." Time Your Market Entry Carefully: The team deliberately delayed broad marketing efforts until their product was market-ready. Steff shared, "It was always a big question for us, when should we really go out and become very vocal about what we are doing? Because we knew it would take some time and there's the risk then that you go out...but you're not ready. And until you get ready, you are kind of yesterday's news." Balance Technical Transparency with Vision: In a risk-averse industry, ecoLocked found success by carefully balancing technical transparency with maintaining excitement about their solution. Steff noted, "We kind of need to balance these conversations by obviously being open in what our product can and cannot do...without scaring them away or not getting them excited." Invest in Education Before Sales: For innovative products in traditional industries, education is crucial. ecoLocked invested in creating infographics, videos, and thought leadership content to help potential customers understand carbon removal and sustainability concepts. As Steff explained, "A lot of people are not very knowledgeable about sustainability, about carbon removal...This is a whole new topic that they have never been in touch with before." Consider Funding Strategy Carefully: Deep tech startups face unique fundraising challenges compared to digital products. Steff advised, "If you rise in deep tech, in climate tech...you need hardware. In our case, we needed a laboratory. This is a whole different story in terms of how quickly the hockey stick goes up and how much money you need early on." // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co

This week, my guest is guide BJ Gerhart [33:50], a longtime veteran guide at Three Rivers Ranch in Idaho and one of the savviest anglers I know. He shares his tips for getting around the common problems of early season trout fishing, mainly cold water and high flows. In the Fly Box this week, we have some helpful tips from listeners, and some interesting questions for Tom, including: If adult trout can't see UV light, as you said in last week's podcast, what should I do with all the UV and flashy materials I have in my fly-tying collection? What kind of standard trout flies are closest to the kebari flies used in tenkara fishing? When fishing a dry dropper, all the trout took my dry fly yet when I removed the nymph I stopped getting strikes. What caused this? Why are beads on nymphs usually gold? Why is my casting worse when I use beadhead flies? What are the main differences between the 9-foot and the 8-foot, 5-inch Helios rods for a 10-weight line? Why is fly fishing for salmon in Great Lakes streams not as popular as steelhead fishing? When choosing a fly line for a two-handed rod, should I add the grain weight of the sinking head to the grain weight of the Skagit head? A great tip for wading safety with a buddy A listener raves about the Orvis rod repair team Do you think I should stop trout fishing at 60 degrees just to be safe? Are there public resources I can use to find out if a river might be too high to fish? A listener gives a tip for adding a long mono rig easily without the need to tie a clinch knot to the permanent loop in a fly line.

The conversation starts with Dee and Nate talking about Green Lane, the music she grew up with, Live Day 2010 and the formation of Chestnut Grove, her White Stripes tribute to Icky Thump, and the Raconteurs. They then joined by James and talk about the early Chestnut Grove shows, writing original songs and finding their sound, recording their first album, Perkiomenville, documenting through videos, the reasons behind their current hiatus from touring, the financial realities of being a band in today's landscape, The Album and boygenius, working with Derek Chafin, their Farewell Show at Ardmore Music Hall, feeling comfortable on stage, the radio push, the jumpsuits and the Literally Nuts podcast.
