In den Laudes hier bei uns im Konvent singen wir meist die angegebenen Hymnen im Stundenbuch. Und es gibt einen Hymnus für das Morgenlob, den ich sehr gern mag und ihn auch immer mal zwischendurch auswähle. Nicht nur, weil er auch eine schöne Melodie hat und wir ihn gern singen, sondern auch, weil er mir mal ganz klar und deutlich Handlungsanweisungen gibt. Da singen wir:Öffne meine Augen, Herr, für die Wunder deiner Liebe.  Mit dem Blinden rufe ich: Heiland, mache, dass ich sehe.Öffne, meine Ohren, Herr, für den Anruf meiner Brüder. Lass nicht zu, dass sich mein Herz ihrer großen Not verschließe.Öffne meine Hände, Herr, Bettler stehn vor meiner Türe und erwarten ihren Teil. Christus, mache, dass ich teile.Aber wenn ich noch ein bisschen müde in der Kapelle sitze und mit dem Gebet anfangen will, beginnt das genauso, wie jetzt der Hymnus: Da muss ich auch erst bitten, dass mir Gott die Lippen öffnet, damit ich überhaupt in der Lage bin, ihn zu loben.Im Hymnus bitte ich dann zunächst, dass er mir die Augen öffnet, damit ich fähig werde, die Wunder der Herrlichkeit zu sehen, die immer da sind und für die ich oft keinen Blick habe vor lauter Alltagskram. In Städten ist manchmal aufs Straßenpflaster gemalt: Blick heben! Und dann tut man das automatisch. Dann bitte ich um offene Ohren, damit ich mitbekomme, wenn jemand auch nur ganz leise flüsternd oder in verklausulierter Sprache um Hilfe bittet. Und dann kann ich um offene Hände bitten, damit ich großzügig geben kann, wenn andere Bittende vor unserer Tür stehen, oder eine Mail schicken, oder am Telefon ganz kompliziert einen einfachen Wunsch haben. Manchmal wundere ich mich darüber, wie genau und aktuell manche Lieder und Gebete sind und wiesehr sie uns in die richtige Richtung des Lebens als Christen hinweisen.

This Sunday "anything goes" at Unity of Fairfax as Rev. Russell will be unscripted and and co-create the message with the congregation!  

One of the most flexible words in the English language is "give." It can be a verb and a noun and is used in numerous colloquial expressions. This Sunday we will "give it a go" and see how giving augments our capacity to thrive.

Morgen Abend werden wir mit einer Gruppe DOMRADIO-Hörer nach Assisi aufbrechen um Franziskus und Klara von Assisi näher kennen zu lernen und auch Carlo Acutis. Und am Sonntag besuchen wir die Einsiedelei Carceri oberhalb der Stadt. Das Klostergebäude wurde gebaut zur Zeit, als Bernhardin von Siena dort Oberer war. Und dort ist oben unter der Dachkante auch das Logo eingemeißelt, das er quasi erfunden hat. Ein Kreis von Sonnenstrahlen mit den Buchstaben IHS, ins Deutsche übersetzt als "Jesus, Heiland, Seligmacher". Ignatius von Lojola hat dieses Logo später für seinen neu gegründeten Jesuitenorden verwendet und so hat es sich gerade in Europa sehr stark verbreitet.An diesen Bernhardin denken die Franziskanerminoriten heute besonders. Bernhardin war ein begnadeter Prediger und Friedensstifter. Der Papst wollte ihn viermal zum Bischof ernennen und er hat es immer abgelehnt. Nun wollte er ihn zum Bischof von Siena berufen, was Bernhardin wieder ablehnte. 1427 hielt er dennoch in dieser Stadt 45 Tage lang seine wohl schönsten Predigten auf der Piazza del Campo, die alle mitgeschrieben wurden und überliefert sind. Bernhardin wirkte friedenstiftend in italienischen Städtekriegen und wurde schon zu Lebzeiten als Heiliger verehrt. Sein Ruhm beruht aber vor allem auf seinen Predigten in der Sprache des Volkes, die von seinen Hörern gesammelt und überliefert wurden. Sie beschäftigen sich mit dem familiären, sozialen und politischen Leben jener Zeit und waren auch den ersten humanistischen Strömungen gegenüber aufgeschlossen. Sie überzeugten durch ihre Klarheit und ihren gesunden Menschenverstand, waren reich an Beispielen, kräftigen Tönen und witzigen Aussprüchen. Wegen seines Christussymbols hat er viel Ärger bekommen, wurde mehrfach der Häresie angeklagt und zum Papst vorgeladen, aber immer wieder freigesprochen.Wenn jemand aus Liebe zu Christus so predigen kann, dass die Menschen ihn verstehen und er die Botschaft des Evangeliums unters Volk bringt, dass sie die Mitschriften heute noch kennen, die Berufung zum Bischof fünfmal abgelehnt hat und sogar angeklagt wurde, eine Irrlehre zu verbreiten, dann muss dass ein unglaublicher Mensch und Ordensmann gewesen sein und es ist gut an ihn zu denken.

Aber er beobachtet auch immer wieder, wie in der Beziehung mit Jesus Menschen sich angenommen und geliebt erfahren und dadurch viel tiefer geheilt werden, als das allein durch Psychologie und Medizin möglich wäre.

Rev. Russell returns to the pulpit today from sabbatical and picks up where he left off in June with an exploration of the connection between "why's" and "wise."

Sir Gregory Doran is the former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He spent a total of thirty five years with the RSC directing fifty productions in the UK and abroad. He's been called “one of the great Shakespeareans of his age” and has won multiple awards for his work.Born in 1958, Greg was brought up near Preston and played a number of female Shakespeare roles when he was a young pupil attending an all-boys secondary school. He went on to study English and Drama at Bristol University followed by a stint studying classical acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After a few bit parts in TV sitcoms and a spell at Nottingham Playhouse, Sir Greg decided that he would prefer to carve out a career as a director. He went on to stage some of the most critically acclaimed theatre productions – including an all-black cast of Julius Caesar and took Titus Andronicus to South Africa.More recently, he has been touring the globe on his Shakespeare's First Folio tour to look at as many different copies of the texts as possible. He survives his husband, the actor Sir Anthony Sher whom he met in 1987 whilst they were both part of a production of the Merchant of Venice at the RSC in Stratford.
