With decades of expertise in event planning and catering, LUX Events blends premium services with eco-conscious practices, fostering connections, supporting communities and championing sustainability as a commitment to clients and the planet. Co-Owner and Managing Partner, Kelly Lake, joins us with more. Kelly Lake: As we celebrate over 30 years in the hospitality industry, we remain driven by a core belief: that hospitality is so much more than service — it's about creating connections, celebrating communities and making a positive impact. Sustainability has always been a priority for us. From the beginning, we saw the opportunity to be a leader in eco-conscious catering, offering sustainable practices like landfill-compostable disposables and sourcing local, seasonal ingredients. It's about more than reducing waste — it's about building our sustainable future. As we continue to expand, across our family of brands, we're focused on maintaining that balance between excellence and sustainability. We're committed to offering affordable, eco-friendly options while staying true to the premium service our clients expect. And as we grow, we're building a team that shares our values and passion for sustainability — internally and externally. At The LUX Group, sustainability isn't just a choice; it's our promise to you. This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. The hospitality industry is vital to Utah's thriving economy. And like any business, has unique challenges when it comes to mental health. Kelly Lake, the managing partner at LUX Catering and Events, explains what their community is doing to help. KELLY LAKE For years, I've been increasingly aware of the stresses that come along with the hospitality industry. As a group, we've needed to focus on our mental wellness; we've needed to create a space where we are just as conscious of our needs as we are with the concerns of our guests. Now, along with the Salt Lake Chamber's Community Builders Foundation, we have a beautiful blueprint on what businesses can do. We have an opportunity to support each other. We can offer peer-to-peer support, we can model self care, and in so doing, we can create openness about mental health that empowers people to get the resources they need. I'm excited to keep working with Utah Community Builders Foundation to make sure we remain as welcoming to our own community as we are to our visitors. It's time for mental resilience to take the spotlight. DEREK MILLER Workforce resilience through mental fitness is a new campaign for the Utah Community Builders Foundation. You can learn more by searching the Internet for Salt Lake Chamber mental health hospitality, or just give us a call. I'm Derek Miller with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. LUX Catering & Events is one of Utah's award-winning and highly rated catering and event companies. Owner and managing partner of LUX, Kelly Lake, is here to share how LUX continues to serve Utahns. KELLY LAKE LUX has always been centered around passion—passion for food, passion for events, and passion for bringing people together. At the beginning of the pandemic all of that basically came to a halt for us. We had to learn how to pivot and change with the times and restrictions, while keeping our team and our guests safe, above all. We began brainstorming ways to help people gather while maintaining safety precautions. We started LUX to-go, a division that allows for our delicious meals to be picked up and then prepared in the comfort of your own home. We began individually packaging our meals for larger events to minimize touchpoints on buffets. While restrictions have begun to lift, safely gathering is still our highest priority. Our teams continue to wear personal protective equipment while interacting with clients, and LUX Catering & Events is still the same market-leading caterer you have come to know and love, as we continue to prioritize safety and the highest quality of events for everyone! DEREK MILLER LUX is focused with innovation and offers plenty of options for your catering and event needs. Learn more at luxcateringandevents.com. “Attain a greater balance of Love, Wisdom, and Power through a method of practice and internal development in awakening your true potential and innate power. Align with your higher self and reinforce the energy states of being you truly prefer. Journey the path of self-mastery by owning your shadow and liberating the great light within.” – Casey Lake Casey Lake is a martial arts instructor, spiritual guide, and trainer and practitioner of practices stemming from his background of transpersonal hypnotherapy and neuro-linguistic programming, and over a decade’s experience in Chinese, Japanese, and Russian martial arts and healing systems. Having received extensive training in Eastern and Western esoteric schools of philosophical and mystical development, Casey is a student and teacher dedicated to knowing and exploring all sides of oneself and synthesizing all experience into integrated self-knowledge and true awakened wisdom. As an accomplished martial artist and coach, Casey holds ranks and certificates in over 5 styles of Chinese, Japanese, and Russian Martial Arts and holds over 15 black belt ranks and titles. He has taught, operated, and owned martial schools since he was 21 years old and has traveled around the world teaching and training with the masters. Casey began his training at the age of 13 in Seibukan Jujutsu and later became an Uchideshi (Apprentice student) under Julio Toribio -Kancho. He studied and became a 7th Dan in Seibukan Jujutsu, a 7th Dan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu), a 4th Dan in Enshin itto Ryu Battojutsu (Sword Art) and received much training in Aikido and Karate. He spent many years fully emerged in the Japanese styles and traveled to Japan many times to train with many Grand Masters such as the living Ninja Hatsumi Massaaki -Soke, Machida Kenshinsai -Kancho, and others. Around his early 20's, Casey started picking up different styles of Chinese martial arts, especially Baguazhang, and continues to practice Yang Style Tai chi as well. He studies with Sifu Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson and his Brother Sifu Dr. Kelly Lake in the Daoist styles of Martial Art, Nei Gong, Chi Gong, Mysticism, and Internal Alchemy. These styles have drastically influenced his overall practice and personal cultivation methods for internal power and self-realization. Additionally, after a friend gave him some copies of Vladimir Vasiliev training videos, the Founder of Systema -Russian Martial Art, Casey discovered a passion for this dynamic, creative, and holistic system of development which became his main style for many years. From 2013 to 2017, he ran the Integrative Martial Arts Academy in Seaside, CA where he led martial arts, fitness, and coaching classes and hosted international seminars. Casey has had many trainings in various other martial arts and has always sought to have a beginner’s mind and learn as much as he can from styles such as boxing, MMA, Mantis, Wing Chun, and influences such as Yoga, Gymnastics, Parkour, Shooting, and Outdoor Wilderness Survival. Casey’s passion is helping ignite light within all people for an enlightened civilization through core spiritual wisdom teachings, meditation, martial arts, and hypnosis and trance consciousness. He has been fascinated with the power of consciousness and the mind’s ability to generate higher levels of human experience and enhanced mental programming for greater success and self-mastery. Hypnotherapy is guided hypnosis, a trance-like state of consciousness achieved with the help of a hypnotherapist to bring about the internal work of healing and the fine-tuning of self to what we truly desire. This trance-like state is similar to being completely absorbed in a book, movie, music, or even one's own thoughts or meditation, akin to a deep daydream-like experience with a heightened perspective of self. In this state, clients can turn their attention completely inward to find and utilize the natural resources deep within themselves that can help them make changes or regain control in certain areas of their life. Casey offers hypnotherapy for clients struggling with trauma, addictions, and phobias; inner child therapy and shadow work; enhancing performance in health, relationships, and business; as well as other contexts. Drawing from time-tested ancient awakening teachings, tools, and methods, Casey is optimistic in the progression and evolution of world consciousness through helping all people transform old patterns of fear and illusion into personal freedom and awakened power so they may take action and be in full harmony with who they really are. He has been a dedicated student in spiritual and personal development his whole life and gains deep joy from direct time spent with others at his classes, retreats, and one-on-one coaching/therapy sessions in healing and transformation, expanding consciousness, heart, and life.
